So, if I understand you perfectly, "being an American (US that is)" means:
Reply
Having the best, or, at least the biggest army in the world (US spends as much on military as the rest of the world put together).
As a consequence, not spending enough money on healthcare so every one, rich, high middleclass, low middleclass and poor, can have a decent and complete healthcare.
Even tough the US was the leading (and originating) force behind "universal human rights" and international laws, and laws against torture and mishandling of war prisoners (actually, I thought those things were typically American), being American NOW means "f*-k those rules.
Being American also means, WE can invade, even under false pretences, but the other, even after repeated provocation, and with actually some good reasons, can not attack nor invade.
Being American means: we don't have to save energy, drive smaller cars, have a more ecological industry as a first and better solution. We'll just produce more energy (and f**k the environment and the rest of the world..... we are the MASTERS)
Being American means "f**k the poor", it's their fault anyway.
It means ”We, Americans are always the best and are always right". Rules are for the others, not for us......
So, that's being American according to you and McCain????-

But seriously, how come so many "americans" think that way?
I do travel a lot to the States. Know quite some people overthere. Find the americans on the whole (usualy) very friendly, open AND helpfull.
But, when it comes to politics (national and international) they often make me wonder.....
It some times looks like they're brainwashed.
And don't tell me ALL republicans are "rich people". A lot of "poors" also are republicans.
Americans are "strange" people: They can be great (love to go there) and at the same time can be so "naive" over the world and seemingly so egocentric (e.g. ecology). They're often at the start of great things (e.g. human rights, help people in crisis) and then forget about it.....
