I can understand the need to protect the Ukraine with its vast pipelines not only of oil, but natural gas, which supply much of Western Europe. However, the diplomacy between the Germans and Russia which involve running a pipeline under the North Sea bypassing Poland and Sweden could provide sufficient fuel without having to admit Ukraine to NATO. The point of the article is well-taken. Why support Kosovo but not Abkhazia? Why cheer on Georgia and not protect South Ossetia? We need a leader in Washington who knows the difference between our friends and our allies.
