I could care less how rich or how many homes a person has.
Reply
But if you can't remember how many homes you do have, and you stutter a bit, sound confused, and then say "my staff will get back to you [the reporters]", that's scary.
Did you see Obama's opponent reading from index cards yesterday, telling an audience and reporters that he's "not criticizing Obama's patriotism, he's criticizing his judgement?"
LOL...he was reading that from index cards...and he's expected to do well in the debates?
The only reason he did well at Saddleback is because he gave minimum, quick answers...his advisors have repeatedly told him to talk briefly and keep answers short, because if he tries to talk longer than a minute or two, half the words will be "my friends"...
Does anyone really want this guy for President?-

Let`s face it, the guy and/or his staff or the church staff cheated at Saddleback and gave him the questions before his turn. Even the pastor lied about it at first, later admitting that McCain was NOT sequestered but in a car where anybody could have called him and told him the questions. He was not even in the building for the first half of Obama`s interview and he knew what question was coming before it came.
Reply
These same guys lied and cheated to get tens of thousands of innocents killed over greed for profit and power. Does anybody really think one of these guys did not tell McCain the questions beforehand?
Look at the desperate kool-aid drinkers on this board. Does anybody think they would not cheat to give their candidate the Saddleback `win`?
Regarding McCain`s mental challenge, I think it`s obvious that the man is sinking fast.-

I disagree, Lurch...Obama's opponent didn't get the answers before the meeting. The pastor wouldn't do that...
Reply
Obama's opponent did well, I'll admit that, at least in winning a few hearts in the audience and the people who saw it on TV.
But the next two months will be different, and Obama will do very well...-

No I don't think the pastor gave McCain the questions but I think he was hoodwinked. The pastor said McCain was in the "cone of silence" so he couldn't hear the questions. That was, in fact, not true. Whether or not Pastor knew that or not is not the question. The fact that McCain was not isolated gave him the opportunity to hear the questions by radio or tv and some of his quick answers seem to suggest he knew what was coming.

I did not say the pastor told McCain, but the pastor did say that mccain was in a cone of silence when McCain was definitely not. Think of all the kool-aid drinking cons on these boards. Now put one of them on the church staff, the production crew staff, or on McCains staff. Imagine them sitting there hearing the questions and then having access to McCain and McCains staff with no cameras around.
Reply
What`s more likely, they would tell the questions or drop some hints to someone on McCains staff who then gave McCain some extra pointers based on this info, or the kool-aid drinker figured it would not be fair to help out their hero who is behind in the polls?-

If God forbid, he moves into the White House, should they change it to the McMansion? How dare either of these candidates act like they have it all that hard! Neither of them has dealt with or lived in poverty in a long time. John McCain lived in squalor as a POW in Vietnam. Obama had to claw his way out of poverty. Fine, I respect that. Neither of them live there now. As for McCain and his maybe 4 or 7 or 10 mansions, poop on him.

Agreed. Not only did Obama actually work his way out of poverty, as opposed to dumping your wife to marry into it, but Obama went back to help others after he already made it.

When Obama graduated from Harvard Law magna *** laude and after being elected Harvard Law Review editor by his peers, Obama could have taken the guaranteed road to riches by joining any law firm in the country that he wanted to. Even the most prestigious law firms in the country would have bragged about hiring him.
Instead, Obama became a faith-based community activist to help the under-represented in south Chicago.-

When faced with moral dilemmas what do the candidates do?
Reply
Obama gives up the guaranteed millions to help those less fortunate than him.
McCain dumps his wife and mother of three for the home-wrecking heiress. Now, if you forgive that perhaps for his `youth` of being in his early 40`s, then what do you say about McCain`s betrayal towards our troops and vets when he voted all those times AGAINST their military funding, AGAINST armor, AGAINST equal time off, and AGAINST VA funding for the casualties? -

I am quite surprised that Christian conservatives do not speak out against their lying and immoral brethren. I guess it is kind of like regular honest muslims not speaking out against the radical extremist muslims.

Someone who has been handed everything economically lecturing people on 'responsibility' would be laughable, if that someone didn't hold a position of power. Hopefully, his disrespect for the 'common man' won't be lost on the 'common man.'

Take your opponents strongest advantage over your own candidate and attack it with lies, smears, and money. Worked against Kerry, who was a decorated war hero going against an AWOLer during a time of war.
Same thing now.
McCain`s team is trying to place the race and elitist cards against Obama because as everybody knows who has done any research, McCain is a racist and elitist. -

There is definitely a huge difference between marrying for wealth and working to earn your own wealth. McCain made a BIG mistake with his elitist campaign ads and now is scrambling after choosing the low road. What will he do now? Whine that Obama's not being fair or raise the level of his lying attacks even more?

McCain was around some shady characters involved in the S & L scandals. Keating comes to mind. These white collar, unpunished, criminals knew where the nonregulated money spigot was. Cost to taxpayers: A TRILLION DOLLARS$$$$$$ in loses backed by the federal government.
Reply
Low interest rates promoted by Bush and his backers as a way to enable more Americans to become homeowners produced a nonregulated high risk loan industry. These white collar criminals knew where the easy money spigot was still running. Cost to taxpayer:(you are going to have to take out second morgage loans to pay this off). Deregulated is a wonderful word, no?
To white collar criminals.-

Back in 2003 the same bankers behind the Subprime crisis paid off enough politicians in both parties to get the Republican Congress to pass and Republican prez to sign the new bankruptcy that moved more risk from the banks to the consumer.

Just in time for the subprime crisis to blow up. Coincidence? Not on your life. They knew exactly what was coming.

Where was John McCain's parents while he was a POW? Why did Carol have to rely on H.Ross Perot for financial support and to pay for her medical treatment, if he inherited millions from his family? Apparently the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree, and they turned their backs on Carol just like Johnny did when he returned.
Reply
John McCain doesn't have a clue about the little person in this country and he doesn't care about them either. All they are is a vote, and he will say anything he can to bilk them out of their votes the same way he bilked them out of millions with Keating.
He is his own number one priority, no morals, no sense of family, while he represents the party of family values. Personally, any conservative who support McCain is a hypocrit, when they can defend, deflect, deny and support a man who has done the things John McCain has done, they are as much of a gutter snipe as he is. -

Well, When you are worth $140 million you tend to have trust and LLCs and Corporations controlling your assets so it isn't really surprising that he wouldn't know how many homes he owns. Many rich people couldn't tell you that. That said I generally agree mcCain is a moron and shouldn't be president.

My parents own 5 homes and I know where they are and how the renters are doing. McSame has some awfully big fancy spreads and has had tax issues also. Those houses are worth $13 million usd. That's a big chunk of change and he should know about it. The last president we had that was that forgetful of basic facts was Reagan.

You should reduce your election time to 3 weeks as in the UK: it would save a lot of money which could be spent more wisely.

It is not just one thing.
There is the Keating Five scandal where McPain was one of the principal crooks. This corruption scandal cost our country's treasury ONE TRILLION DOLLARS!
Then there is his habitual lying and endless pandering.
Saying that civil rights activist Rep.John Lewis was his mentor, which Mr. Lewis immediately rejected!
There are at least 10 statements he made, on record, in front of TV cameras and then flatly denied saying it!
Don't forget his calling a little kid a "Jerk" fro asking McPain a tough question in a New Hampshire campaign event.
McPain has amply demonstrated that he is the jerk, when he lied about supporting Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday, when in reality he opposed it!
He has no shame, and we all know that by now.-

Alas, in the who's folksier bake-off--which is of course the one that counts--McCain takes the lead.
Reply
His wealth is acceptible as long as it doesn't threaten--as long as some can say, without bitterness, "Gee, I'd like to have what that guy has...."
O.'s "difficulty" is his "foreignness," his "unlike-us-ness," which sentiment is often a function of racism.
As we've seen, the Reps have and will relentlessly emphasize O.'s "otherness"--and the ignorant, bigoted, and/or those fearful of difference will fall into line behind McCain. -

!40,000,000.00 That is less than John McClone cost the US Taxpayers for each of the US Navy planes he crashed. One into Chorpus Christy Bay, one a Virginia Beach NAS, the one he used to take out power lines, and the on he says he used to destroy a North Vietnamese missile.
