Comments for McCain ad: “Housing problem” »
Posted By pc25 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsFROM INSTAPUNDIT
I TOLD YOU THAT IT WAS A BAD IDEA for Obama to bring up houses again.
It didn’t take long for John McCain to answer Barack Obama’s tweak on his supposed riches. Team McCain has a bona-fide television spot that will “air in key states” — most likely the same states in which Obama ran his ad. Obama can’t pretend he didn’t set the stage for this:

Barack Obama knows a lot about housing problems. One of his “biggest fundraisers” helped him buy his million-dollar mansion. Purchasing part of the property he couldn’t afford.
From Obama, Rezko got “political favors” including “14 million from taxpayers.” Now, he’s a convicted felon, facing jail.
That’s a housing problem.
Obama opened the door for this in two different ways. First, as noted, he skewered McCain for not knowin how many houses he has. But in attacking McCain’s rather tenuous connections to Ralph Reed earlier this week, he made political associates fair game.-

I love the deep voice of the announcer...sounds like he knows what he's talking about, huh...
Housing problem for Obama? How? He got his house, I assume he's living in it comfortably, and I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with it. He paid off the land next to his house in full...no problem.
Funny how the ad doesn't let you know specifically what the so-called "political favors" are...kinda vague, don't you think? I assume they have the facts to back this up and that it's not a rumor, as we're all used to seeing here...but considering the source, we'll never know...

Thanks for asking!
The “House and property” that Obama got was worth $1.65 million, more than Obama could afford and the seller wanted to sell BOTH the house AND the empty adjacent lot at the same time.
In an AMAZING coincidence Rezko’s wife just happened to be at the same location on the same day looking to buy an empty lot!!!
The seller got what he wanted, sold both house and lot.
I haven’ heard of such an AMAZING coincidence since Duke Cunningham’s a$$ was hauled off to prison!
Hey I wonder if Cunningham and Rezko are in the same prison now? Humm?
Obama Paid $300,000 Less Than The Asking Price For His Mansion, While Tony Rezko’s Wife Paid Full Price For A
Vacant Lot Next Door On The Very Same Day.
“Two years ago, Obama bought a mansion on the South Side, in the
Kenwood neighborhood, from a doctor. On the same day, [Antoin ‘Tony’] Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko, bought the vacant lot next
door from the same seller. The doctor had listed the properties for sale together. He sold the house to Obama for $300,000 below the asking price. The doctor got his asking price on the lot from Rezko’s wife.” (Tim Novak, “Obama And His Rezko Ties,”
Chicago Sun-Times, 4/23/07)
The Seller Of Obama’s Home “Wanted To Sell Both Properties At The Same Time.” “On the same day Obama closed on his house, Rezko’s wife bought the adjacent empty lot, meeting the condition of the seller who wanted to sell
both properties at the same time.” (Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz, “The Rezko Connection,” ABC News’ “The Blotter” Blog,-

Obama bought a house for BELOW the asking price (funny -- I did as well). His real estate agent's wife (also a real estate speculator) made sure he could buy the house by purchasing the empty lot thereby assuring a sale (and assuring an agents fee for her husband). Also assuring a sale for part of her lot, and allowing her to build for profit on the remaining portion of the lot.
Seriously. Is this the worst you can do? I know of at least three houses on double-plus lots that sold in this neighborhood under the asking price, after which the speculator who bought the house sold a portion of the empty lot and then developed the remaining lot. And that's within ten square blocks.
It's called the Real Estate Business and the heart of capitalism. What a bunch of whiners you people are. If he had violated even a rule of ethics you can be sure your attack dogs would have prosecuted long ago. Get a life. -

Might you also explain why the partisan DOJ under the Bush admin has not charged him to the full extent of the law? the seller was selling both pieces together or separately but wanted them to close on the same day. so, no sarcastically amazing coincidence took place, just a seller's stipulation.

True! However 48 thousand pages of court transcripts are a little hard to do in a 30 second ad. And lets not forget the ever evolving $50K to $250K campaign donations.
“Obama Provided Political Favors To Tony Rezko, Including
Writing Letters On His Behalf: “As A State Senator, Barack Obama Wrote Letters To City And State Officials Supporting His Political Patron Tony
Rezko’s Successful Bid To Get More Than $14 Million From Taxpayers To Build Apartments For Senior Citizens.”
(Tim Novak, “Obama’s Letters For Rezko,” Chicago Sun-Times, 6/13/07)
So far Rezko gave Obama $250K campaign donations and bought an empty lot $300K, $550K paid directly and indirectly to Obama and all Rezko got in return was
$14 Million of the Taxpayers money!
AND
Guilty verdicts on 16 of 24 corruption counts.-

Like I said, and I've seen this so I know....a great ad agency can distill those 48,000 pages down to a great 30 sec commercial if they know what they're doing. They could make an ad so great it would put Obama in his place and make him regret ever thinking about mentioning his opponent's homes...
But this ad doesn't do it..not even close...-

Funny you should mention Obamas writing skills. How is it that he would write all sorts of letters on this guys behalf, yet when he was the Editor of the Harvard Law Review, he never penned a single word? Maybe he just did not have anything to say while in college.

Maybe .... being on a prestigious publication like this does not pay as well as writing endorsements to the state and city for your buddy to bilk the taxpayers out of their money?

"The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB).
After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised "poor judgment".
Please note the last two words, and the fact that it is exactly what they accuse Barack Obama of having " POOR JUDGMENT " mmmmmmm....
McCain should know something about that eh!-

I find it interesting that of the Keating Five, 4 were democrats and one was Republican. The lone Republican and one Democrat were cleared, 3 Democrats convicted. And this is supposed to embarass the Republicans?
Reply
Also, as to having exercised "poor jundment" that was 18-20 years ago. Experiences, both positive and negative, tend to refine one's judgment. Obama has had very little experience, has not been through the fire, thus his judgment has not been refined.
It is not hyprocritical to say Obama lacks good judgment today while acknowledging McCain lacked good judgment 18 years ago.-

The poor judgment was the fact that McCain hesitantly went to the meeting, but when he found out what it FULLY was about he DENIED Keating any help THAT is why he was exonerated even the poor judgment charge is weak. Being there put McCain in a position where he looked guilty by association, but as investigation showed he gave Keatiing NO special favors! Now 3 of the 4 Democrats present did get convicted for granting special favors to Keating.
Reply
Therefore John Glen and John McCain are the only ones who resisted the temptation that was presented. Those 2 were only guilty of hearing Keating out!-

Uhmmm dude, uhmmm, due to his lack of experience, any sort of track record, the only thing Obama IS RUNNING ON IS HIS
JUDGMENT!!!!!!!!
And willingness ability to work across party lines!
The Keating Five? McCain and John Glenn did nothing wrong.
Do you even know what the “POOR JUDGMENT” was a reference to?
If ya don’t you’re an idiot for bringing it up and if you do why TF would you bring it up?
The Keating Five affair led to campaign finance reform. McCain-Feingold bill
You know McCain worked across party lines (something Obama wants to do someday)
McCain attacked what he saw as the corrupting influence of large political contributions – from corporations, labor unions, other organizations, and wealthy individuals – and he made this his signature issue. Starting in 1994, he worked with Democratic Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold on campaign finance reform; their McCain-Feingold bill attempted to put limits on "soft money".
Since Obama CLAIMS he’s the one to get things done bipartisan across party lines can you NAME ANY Legislation that Obama was a sponsor of?
Not a “me too” hanger on like he did with the Climate Stewardship Act
The Climate Stewardship Act sponsored by McCain and Lieberman.
Do you know of something he sponsored across party lines like the Aviation and Transportation Security Act by McCain – Hollings.
Anything? Like the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission by Lieberman an McCain.
Anything? Even if it were un-popular like McCain-Kennedy immigration reform.
No?
That’s what I thought. So Why TF did you bring up The Keating Five?

But, but, but Rezko, uhhhh, hes a bad guy that 3 years ago sold Obama some land.
Are you suggesting that 3 years isnt enough time to beat the Rezko horse?
Are you suggesting that McW's disssociation with the current American economic peril somehow can be marginalized by the Rezko deal from 2006?
Good luck with that.......I realize that ammunition is running LOW, but at least choose topics that are relevant and that people really CARE about, you know, like ending the war, the economy, fuel, etc etc.

So, Senator McCain, who is supposed to be the man with the plan on foreign policy because he's "been there, done that" can't remember how many houses he owns (with his wife's money) and that is somehow opening the door for the most ridiculous and unfounded accusations about Senator Obama's relationship with Rezko?
Come on, people, you've got to do better than that. As my Chief in the Navy used to say, "You can polish that Pinto all you want PO2, but it ain't never gonna be a Caddy."

It's smear. Senator Obama wrote letters on behalf of a development that would benefit people in Chicago for whom he had been working for a long time. Rezko never solicited a letter from Senator Obama and Senator Obama didn't ask Rezko before he sent the letters.
Reply
If you're going to hang Senator Obama for that association then you'd better hang Senator McCain as well. Shall we drag the Keating Five out in the open again? As with Senator McCain in that issue, Senator Obama could be accused of having poor judgement in his associations (much looser with Rezko than McCain with Keating, by the way), but certainly not with impropriety. -

the rezko thing couldn't find traction when hillary tried it and it won't now, simply because all that happened was that Obama got a pretty good deal on a house. he didn't buy it from rezko. rezko didn't loan or give him the money, etc. and the rezkos and obamas had to close on thieir properties on the same day only under the seller's stipulation. in the rezko trial, obama has been accused of nothing, has not been investigated for anything, and hasn't even been questioned.

Biden is one of the best in plolitics and he is both respected for his work for the armed services and his hard work ethic ... this will almost secure the Repubs timetable of June for city and 2011 for borders .
