In which state do motorists have a right to operate motor vehicles on public roads anonymously? There neither is nor has ever been such a right. In most states, you cannot so much as park an unlicensed vehicle on a public road.

Do try and make the distinction between rights and privileges. You want privacy when tavelling on public roads? Fine...hook your horses to a buggy like the Amish and off ya go.-

This is not a matter of rights and privileges, it is a matter of controlling people. Initially perhaps it seems reasonable and if the stated intentions are adhered to perhaps it would be OK. However the instruments of power are merely instruments, the way they are used depends on those who wield them. There will always be people who seek to abuse power, it is a natural part of being human that must be carefully and thoughtfully overcome and not everyone is up to the task. The idea behind American government was to limit government power and spread it out as much as possible. By limiting the tools available to those in power we can limit the ability to abuse it. This program is could be a powerful tool for those who wish to use and abuse power, if it is permitted many more surveillance programs will follow. Once the systems for surveillance are in place there is no controlling how they will be used.

Also, I tought the whole point (or at least a major one) of the American revolution was to have LESS control???
So, as many here on the forum love to use this argument:
"that continuous hidden control" is actualy verry UNAMERICAN.
Being against those controle should actualy be AMERICAN.

Are you that same american who is opposed to having to carry an ID card?
Who is opposed to gun control?
With the same argument, you can say you can't even walk on the streets (walkways) whithout being identified. Walking outside your home is a privilege after all. (ask the prisonners)
Hving an compulsary ID with you is NOT (as so many americans say) a breach of privacy. Having it checked at ALL times is.
The whole "protection against terrorist" argument is flawed and is only an excuse for "big brother" to control all citizens at all time.
It looks more and more like some S.F. movies, where individual rights and choices don't exist any more.... ... scary .......
Lets hope the "free" people will realize this and oppose it. -

I also believe some people have privledges confused with rights. it is a privledge to operate a vehicle on state and federally owned hwys. You must first pass a state required test to get a drivers license, with state required insurance. In most states it is a right to drive around on your own private property. The roads belong to all the people, not just liberal whinners that have darn neared ruined this country with leave me alone with my rights kind of attitude. You do not have the right to speed and drive recklessly or impared as as you are endangering others. Since we are in a time, due to liberal attitudes, that there are many many illegal people in this country, we have to take different kinds of measures. God knows we have enough of our own undesirables and surely do not need to import more. As for this being an outrage, ha ha, it's a nit compared to some of the really important things to be outraged about. Be outraged because of all the illeagal drugs in this country, drive by murders, muggings, robberies, that are mostly led back to some kind of drug activity. The clear disrespect for law enforcement is a sign of the times also. There is always a few bad apples everywhere, but overall, these people have a tough job. Nothing stays the same and as this country changes, not for the better, so must our challanges to cope with it for ALL the people. If it's inconveinent for you...oh well!!
