You are welcome, smithichie. Too bad Rick's career ended too soon.

          My favorite line was...

Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air.

Here's the story behind Garden Party. Both interesting and touching.

Thanks smithichie, very interesting. Ricky was a mellow guy with mellow music, really liked him and his music.

                Good post Wolfie.

Rick was a teen idol back in the late 1950's and early 1960's. There was always a little segment for him at the end of the "Ozzie and Harriet Show", a staple on TV. Rick's Dad Ozzie is widely given credit for inventing the video, which is basically what the segment was.

Fame at a young age is often a hard thing to handle. Don't know that Rick handled it badly so much as it curdled on him. When he first recorded this song, he'd been singing Country and Western for a while, trying to get some of the old magic back. But the public never accepted him as anything other than the kid on "Ozzie and Harriet." Lots of poignant reflection in that song.

Soon after Rick Nelson's plane crashed, Bob Dylan was doing a concert and he said, 'ricky sang a lot of my songs, so I guess I can do one of his.' And I always have pictured him doing this one ( garden party, since it even referrs to dylan ).

But I don't know for sure. Anyone know?
