"According to an affidavit unsealed last Tuesday, the investigation began when an informant told the FBI about a text message allegedly sent by Block reading: "Nice piece 5 yrs old belongs to my gf and she wants to sell it."
Reply
"Richards and Block crafted a deal that, in addition to the apartment and used car, included child care for Richards' 10-month-old daughter, whose sexual service the couple intended to sell later, Rex Miller, the FBI's lead agent on the case, testified."
"The couple had also hoped to blackmail the informant, Miller said." -

This is why I support the death penalty without any chance of them re-offending. And forget about the namby-pamby rehabilitation or the humane treatment crap. We're talking about sex with a 5 year old. Brick wall & a firing squad, 6x6x3 microwave with a floor drain, public hangings, drawn & quartered, better yet, lets bring back the headman, ax and block. Getting the idea I'm slightly protective of children? We need to protect them from animals like this. When you find them, dispose of them.

Its sad to say that a lot of women (not all) have children "around here" to draw monthly-checks-food stamp paid bills etc. Its a shame that there's a lot of children that have this kind of life. It breaks my heart to read these kinds of stories...

Around here and probably other places too, a "single mother" and I use that word loosely lives better and drives better cars and lives in better places than ""some"" hard working men or women. Because the gov. pays for a lot of the stuff, homes, bills, foodstamps etc. But Ive heard a working man with kids try to get food stamps and is denied..Whats up with that????

Yes, let's be really careful on labeling single moms in the child selling issue, and that all receive govt assistance and this is their reason for having children. I raised my daughter as a single mom, from her birth, and I raised her through hard work and parenting, not prostituting her.

These children are prostituted to people with money. Don't forget about that. How much money one makes is not the indicator of the depraved. Rich men, they are in the majority, buy these sexual perversions. The poor are the ones they are looking for. Should the poor do it, absolutely not. But please don't put single moms in the category of sexual slave children owners. That's just wrong.

While on the surface, I agree with the outrage, I think it is important that we understand why there are so many people who commit these crimes. In the vast majority of these cases, the perps were at some time molested themselves. Some studies suggest that close to 90% of child molestors were molested themselves as children. Since only around 20% of molestations are ever reported, many of these victims move into adulthood without ever having received any type of counseling. Next thing you know, they become the molestor.

Now, this isn't true of every single child molestor out there, and it can be argued that only a small percentage of those molested actually become molestors themselves, and this is all true. What we as a society need to do is find the vicitms and help them through counseling into adulthood, so that they don't become the next molestor. Not an easy task at all, but this is the only way that we will ever truly reduce the number of molestations that take place. We can offer the severest of penalties to these people, including death, and it will not deter them. These people are sick and need help before they harm others.-

So until then I guess we just keep trying to save the harmed.

There is so much information out there today about molesters being molested in childhood, that I'm tired of the excuse. Yes, the excuse. You know that what they did to you was wrong, and I won't believe you don't know that, whoever you are. You know it put you in a frame of mind to do the same thing, which you still know is wrong, because you're telling the child not to tell, doing it in secret, etc. So instead of getting help, as the media keeps begging, you molest instead, and justify it with your own abuse issues, when you have known from the beginning that it is WRONG. These aren't the days of homes with only radios. There are billboards, talkshows, books, magazines, signs in the social services offices, and news reports on it damn near every week, although it should be 100 times a day. You can't make that justification any more. I'm not buying it.-

I never said it was an excuse, but it is a fact. And it is extremely important that we recognize this. Whenever we hear of a sexual molestation case there is outrage. What we should be outraged about are all the unreported cases that happen everyday. Statistics say that 1 in every 4 women is raped in her lifetime. Statistics also show that 1 in every 5 children is molested. When we hear a story about sexual molestation, most people tend to believe it is a rare happening and that this child molestor is so far from the norm that we can't believe it. The fact is that most child molestors get away with their crimes. We have an epidemic and think putting a few people to death will solve the problem.
Reply
As I was younger, I would never have believed the statistics. But through life experience, I realize that these numbers are not exaggerated. In my adult life, I have had six serious relationships. Two of the women I dated admitted to me that they had been sexually abused as children, by family members, both uncles. My wife never was molested, but she felt she was under the threat of being molested by her stepfather, and she is pretty certain some of her sisters were molested.
Until we understand that we are dealing with more than a few very sick individuals, nothing is going to change.-

Still can't agree with "until we understand". We and they understand what they are doing to these children is wrong. This is no longer a closet subject that we don't discuss over and over and over.

But I will agree with one thing for sure. Those who know and allow should be jailed right along side them.

Just when you think there is nothing in our society that can get any more disturbing than what is already been reported, a story like this comes along and lowers that bar even further into the depths of evil. People like this should never again walk free or have the opportunity to reproduce and repeat their crimes. Providing they are guilty, I hope they are locked away permanently because such sickness doesn't "reform" itself. For society's sake, they need to be culled permanently. I hope the 5yr old receives some much needed counseling in order to deal with this in the healthiest way possible. Its heartbreaking to think what she's already probably experienced in her very short life...
