There is so much information out there today about molesters being molested in childhood, that I'm tired of the excuse. Yes, the excuse. You know that what they did to you was wrong, and I won't believe you don't know that, whoever you are. You know it put you in a frame of mind to do the same thing, which you still know is wrong, because you're telling the child not to tell, doing it in secret, etc. So instead of getting help, as the media keeps begging, you molest instead, and justify it with your own abuse issues, when you have known from the beginning that it is WRONG. These aren't the days of homes with only radios. There are billboards, talkshows, books, magazines, signs in the social services offices, and news reports on it damn near every week, although it should be 100 times a day. You can't make that justification any more. I'm not buying it.-

I never said it was an excuse, but it is a fact. And it is extremely important that we recognize this. Whenever we hear of a sexual molestation case there is outrage. What we should be outraged about are all the unreported cases that happen everyday. Statistics say that 1 in every 4 women is raped in her lifetime. Statistics also show that 1 in every 5 children is molested. When we hear a story about sexual molestation, most people tend to believe it is a rare happening and that this child molestor is so far from the norm that we can't believe it. The fact is that most child molestors get away with their crimes. We have an epidemic and think putting a few people to death will solve the problem.

As I was younger, I would never have believed the statistics. But through life experience, I realize that these numbers are not exaggerated. In my adult life, I have had six serious relationships. Two of the women I dated admitted to me that they had been sexually abused as children, by family members, both uncles. My wife never was molested, but she felt she was under the threat of being molested by her stepfather, and she is pretty certain some of her sisters were molested.
Until we understand that we are dealing with more than a few very sick individuals, nothing is going to change.-

Still can't agree with "until we understand". We and they understand what they are doing to these children is wrong. This is no longer a closet subject that we don't discuss over and over and over.

But I will agree with one thing for sure. Those who know and allow should be jailed right along side them.
