"Whenever I write on these subjects, I invariably get e-mails accusing me of hating America or "blaming America first."

Quite the contrary. I love America, and I can't stand quietly by while the land of

I love the America of the Constitution and limited government - not the America of the Patriot Act and the Orwellian Department of Homeland Security.

I love the America that Washington and Jefferson said should be far removed from all the age-old quarrels of Europe and Asia, while trading benevolently with people all over the world - not the America that has troops in a hundred countries while our own government prohibits us from peaceful trading with dozens of countries.

In short, I want my country back."

It's true...anytime one criticizes the US there's always knee jerk conservatives who accuse you of "hating America", or "hating the troops". If there was a time in our history when America needs harsh criticism, it's right now. I don't hate the US but I do hate the ignorant, repressive policies of the Bush regime. Actually, I hate the man, too. I think he should be locked up.

A common refrain I've heard most of my adult life is, "if you don't like it here, get out". Three years ago I took that advice (voted with my feet) and did just that and I haven't looked back. After Bush was elected the 2nd time I just didn't feel it was my country anymore. I'm still completely stunned by that unfortunate event. Probably the most common political question I hear from the very polite people in my new country is: "how did you let that happen"? I don't have an answer for them.

Well, you can simply tell them that you've never been accused of being that bright a person.

"I love the America of the Constitution and limited government..."

BUT!!!! You don't want to protect it... I see.

btw, if you don't want to get disowned by liberals, don't tell them you believe in limited government. ; )

"...anytime one criticizes the US there's always knee jerk conservatives who accuse you of "hating America", or "hating the troops"...."

Well, if you wanted to yank the funding of our troops, it's fair to say that you do "hate" America and our troops.

Look, we are all Anti-war...you wouldn't be human not to be. I also know that you would be much less of a human if you didn't understand that standing up and fighting to keep this country safe once again in the face of threats is the only answer. You cannot have peace with Al qaeda. They have sworn to kill all of us and anyone else that doesn't wish to pray 5 times a day in the name of Allah. All of the sacrifice we've done over the duration of our country's existence demands that we uphold the tradition of honor and self respect as good Americans.
