Especially as an adjunct to cable TV, land line phones don't seem like a bad idea. Might even inject some competition into the cable world.

I can forsee problems at the edges -- getting strong cell phone service to all locations; or getting land lines to remote locations. Either one could run into big time costs as the numbers of subscribers served gets smaller. Interesting problems for state PUC's.
