Comments for McCain lied about his wife Cindy meeting Mother Teresa »

Posted By idyll 1 year, 4 months ago in News

The McCain campaign had put out the story that Mother Teresa “convinced” Cindy to bring home two orphans from Bangladesh in 1991.
Mrs. McCain, it turns out, never met Mother Teresa on that trip. (Once contacted by the Monitor, the campaign revised the story on its website.)

It's stories like this that add fuel to the fire that McCain might be exaggerating a bit about his POW days.

McCain isn't a hero. He was a victim.

Victims of war have no more right to endorse torture than any one else.

Cindy's millions in plastic surgery make my teeth hurt.

Well. I'm not a big fan of McCain or his Buffalo Chip ladyfriend, but the language is non-specific enough that it could have meant Mother Theresa inspired her, or convinced her by her example to adopt in India. I, for one, cannot answer as to why they adopted two children from India. It may be that they felt 100+million dollars should be passed along in the form of adopting two children, or it may be a calculated political move. At least they adopted, and at least they adopted from a terribly impoverished country.

Now if they could only get their political 'goals' in line with their supposed personal actions I'd be more likely to believe that their motivation was less political and more inspired by compassion. I just don't see it in the rehtoric that speaks more about feeding the military industrial complex than the starving in America and other countries.

Mother Teresa would never meet a scum bag like McCain or his wife Cindy. It is totally false.

Does Mc now have to fabricate association with religious icons to get religion in his campaign. This man just becomes more pitiful everyday.

Not to pick nits, but the article mentions that Cindy McCain was "implored" or "convinced or had "encouragement" from Mother Teresa to adopt these two children. Can't any of these actions take place on the phone?

I think the comments at the bottom are the most interesting. Everything else is par for the course.

I don't think McCain meant to lie but as an old man he just isn't all there. Just like Reagan and his alzheimers.

Gaffs and embellishments. Almost all candidates commit them. As long as they are few and far between, they should be forgiven -- as in "the candidates are human." But each of us has to judge if we see a pattern emerging when there are just to many.

Incidently, I put gaffs (misspeaking a word or 3 in a talk or speech) and minor embellishments (such a Mrs. McCain meeting Mother Theresa) on a different level than when a candidate either says something that I consider really stupid and later has to retract it, or when they present a policy position that turns out to be based on false or misleading data.

cindy mccain lying about and denying the existence of her own siblings, then cutting them off financially the day of their father's funeral does NOT fall under "the candidates are human" category.

she turned her back on her own blood, for no apparent reason.

that kind of behavior is bizarre or crazy at best, cruel or inhuman at worst.
