Smart, entertaining personal piece by a single mother -- & journalist -- who's learned it's not so hard (& it's OK) to shift from being a "responsible parent" during the week TO, when the kids are with their dad, a fun, "single", party-hearty woman on weekends. Really, it's a story on coming to terms with multiple facets of our personalities--&, in author's case, figuring out how to reconcile her view of parenting & responsibility with her legit desire to reconnect to her more "single" fun-loving...partying self. A good piece, IMO.

This story reminded me of one of my favorite poems. Please don't fuss if I don't quote it exactly right I have to use my faulty memory. lol

My candle burns at both ends,
It will not last the night,
But oh my friends and ah my foes,
It gives such a lovely light.

    Edna St. Vincent Millay

Hey -- always enjoyed that one. Not really a poetry maven but i've always been fascinated by Edna St. Vincent Millay. A couple big bios written about her a few years ago (supposedly Nicole Kidman bought movie rights to one of them & was going to play her). But she really was ahead of her time--a 1920s poet "rock star" almost. (Imagine a poet being a big-time celeb today. Wait, hasn't Paris Hilton or Britney Spears' sister written poems?)

nice article. i was always kind of envious of divorced friends who got to live a wild life on alternate weekends. sure it's a challenge but what a relief from the drudgery of parenting 24/7.

Not envious. But when does the craving for the party life end???Is this heavy drinking or just socializing? Does anybody grow up a little in regards to watching your lifestyle mature just a bit?
