Thanks for your votes, er props. There's likely a cabinet position in it for you. Lovmylibs you can be the press secretary. Anti, you can head up Fema (ever put on a horse show?). N2N will be minister of recreation, a new position. Candida, your going to head up the dept. of Education. Ind06 will be Defense Secretary, (keep em laughing Ind06!) . BronxBomber, you are in charge of the bar. Shadowolf can head up the Dept. of the Interior.

If we get enough people to join us, maybe we can pull off a hostile takeover of Diebold. Something to strive for.

Who do you have in mind for Tehranchick's legal adviser?

Good job sir!
I often think of politicians as marionettes.
And in a way, that is what they are supposed to be.
My guess is that our tangled mass of gossamer thread would support you from the gut.
It could take a pair of bolt cutters to disconnect the traditional cables connected to the lips, Arms, and back pocket.
Before I cast my vote: I have one question
Do you have a pair? -

Fly, we haven't decided on an attorney general yet.... one of the first orders of business will be examining the constitutionality of every piece of legislation that was passed in the last score of years. All powers granted the executive branch in the last 8 years will be rescinded (right after we use them to rescind them) K-street will be turned into a parking lot. Anyone who wishes to discuss policy with the president or any appointed representative will be treated equally, lobbies will not be outlawed but will have no more access than any other citizen. Issues of mutual benefit are entirely open to anyone who wishes a discussion. All trade will be mutually beneficial or cease. We will implement a flat tax, every citizen and corporation will give 10% of their income, there will be no more breaks or shelters that allow Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to pay less less than their housekeepers. Instead of tax incentives, companies who invest in industry that benefit the nation or humanity in general will be given generous grants. Companies who hide their wealth in foreign tax shelters in an effort to avoid the 10% tax (Haliburton for instance) will not only be forbidden from doing business in this nation but will pay back the money they removed from the pockets of US citizens. There will be no such thing as impeachment ever being off the table, anyone compromising a national office for personal gain will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and I would encourage deportation as one of the penalties. These are a few of the platform planks. Last I checked I still have a pair.

LOL.
What would YOU like the next president to do?-

Hmmm: Truth be told I would just as soon keep making sawdust.

I was thinking about the property tax thing though: a family can easily be paying out a huge chunk of their earnings on the mortgage yet the bank owns the asset. I think it is fair to say that the interest cost brings my cost to more than double the total book value.
Should something bad happen to my home: it is my hope that the insurance that I have paid for will keep me from being destitute.
I think property taxes pay for stuff like schools, firemen, and cops.
There are a few old folks that own there property free and clear, but many have a hard time making the tax payments.
The schools thing is not clean because a lot of folks don't have kids.
The firemen and cops thing seems to be mostly protecting the interests of the banks and the insurance companies that cover their assets.
As I drive, (I held back until I was 42) I seem to have noticed the shiny cars, I think that only the old crappy ones are owned free and clear. The infrastructure is protecting their assets.
Rambling Sorry!
What would I like the next president to do?
How about let every one keep every penny of the first $15G they earn?.
How about tax assets instead of income? (I mean actually owned assets) .
How about transparency?
How about balancing the way funds come in with the way the are spent?
(of the $9 trillion dept Social insurance payments cover about half of it yet more than half of our discretionary spending goes toward military spending).
Who's assets are being covered?
I left the back window in my truck open the other night. The thief took my digital camera and my cell phone charger. I was a fool and left my wallet in the console, my dog had chewed it bad. The dude pulled all the papers the cops need, and left them for me, from it.
Strange but fair.
If I am going to have more than 30% of my paycheck yanked, I would rather see it go towards getting that dude (and a few hundred more) a job than buying a missile system that does not work.
Can you do something about that? -

Maybe citizens could be permitted to decide how much of each tax dollar they pay will be alloted where. And the budget for each dept. would be forced to use whatever figure the citizens themselves derived as their budget. Fly, the drawback to an asset tax is it would tend to "punish" older people who own their homes and reward debt with little taxes. Though I'm not abandoning the idea, I think some further thought on the matter may be required. I hate the idea of what is tauted as a "fair" tax. Why? Because it takes a good deal of consumption to simply survive in the post industrial world and that number is the same for someone who makes 4 million a year as it is for someone making 15K. That number (being taxed) may be 90 percent of 1 person's income where it may only be 1.5 percent of the others. That's a "fair" tax only in the Orwellian sense.

Most countries do not charge capitol gains tax on the sale of your abode.
Income Tax history in this country historically only kicked in after a certain, and often huge amount, was earned.
It wold be fair enough to let folks sit on a certain amount of their assets, before taxes.
Let the super rich have the same deduction. They do now with income tax, a dude making a $Zillion bucks a year pays exactly the same rate on his first $15 G as the girl behind the counter at Wendy's.
Fair enough. But the girl at Wendy's is paying 15% of her income to Social Security all year. Most of the money and assets are held by folks that Hit the Cap the first day of the year and no longer have to pay into it. That is if they work for their money, there are quite a few folks living large off of daddy's dividends, those guys don't have to pay SS at all.
3/4 of folks in this country pay more in SS than in income tax, and it is a regressive tax.
The SS trust fund is covering about 1/2 of the national dept.
I have researched the corporate tax thing, it adds about 1% of the cost of product to the consumer.
If the girl at Wendy's worked 2000 hours in a year for $8 bucks an hour she would make about $16G and pay about $2400.00 into SS. No deductions off the top.
Lets pretend she had that money and spent it on a wide screen TV and a Laptop.
If both Items cost $1200.00 each and corporate tax was eliminated, and if the company's chose to pass the savings along, she could save $24 bucks.
Or 3 hours.
