That was very cool. I got choked up earlier in the evening when Lilly Ledbetter spoke (for anyone who missed it, a transcript and mp3 are linked above). She just struck me as very unassuming, without ego and yet very poised. I can't imagine women in 2008 voting for someone who would legislate to deny them equal pay or who would deliberately keep their military benefits low just to insure that they don't leave the military.-

Some states do. The federal government doesn't consider it there business, a stance I can accept. Some states, in fact, have higher minimum wages then the federal government. I believe my state passed slightly higher minimum wages around the same time the federal government raised it, and its hardly a hotbed of progressive ideology, unless you listen to what Stephen Colbert says about it.

No, Goppy, that makes him the nominee. It says nothing about his qualifications for the Presidency.
And contrasting to Bush is not a logical argument, because the man isn't running. Also, it is not wise to suggest that one man is better because he didn't do all things that another man is done. What that points out is how little the other man has done. No one who has achieved greatness has avoided failure at some point.

I don't know why you were negged, either. Bill did a wonderful job in his speech. I tend to agree, he convinced alot of the fence-sitters from Hillary's camp, its just about whether Biden can keep his mouth shut for the most part now. Biden's speech was pretty nice... not hard to see what his role is going to be, hitting McCain and hitting him hard. In that light its fairly obvious why Biden was chosen and it was why I thought he'd choose him. When it comes to hitting McCain, Obama is like a pea-shooter, Hillary is like a rifle and Biden is like a small nuclear weapon.

Agreed and I think she more than made up for her initial inability to accept her loss (something which I could relate to, btw). I also could see the passion of her supporters and I thought it was great that they were given a vip section of their own. Classy indeed. ;-P

I don't know why but for some reason Dell and my broadband provider advised me to not use Firefox. I had Firefox and was using it, then started having problems, that's when they told me to uninstall it and go back to IE! Haven't had a problem since.

People were driving up the stats for their submissions and those of their friends with "me, too," "LOL," and the like. The propeller-heads are obviously trying to come up with algorithms and conditions that help the numbers mean something. Not an easy task.

They may have been lying to him, but I doubt that he was truly misled. The case he presented to the UN was a joke, and he probably could see it at least as much as I could. My guess is that that's why he looked so embarrassed while he was doing it.-

One thing is for sure, he knew he was lied to BEFORE the fiasco of electing Bush to a second term! That, for me, is what destroyed my respect for the man. He could've exposed that liar and his liar buddies in time for the dems to clinch the election, but he didn't. And look where the country is as a result!

My suggestions:
I would have a really BIG stage, with McCain on one end, and Bush on the other, and a whole lot of potted plants in-between.
And have McCain hold something like a book or a fan so that everytime Bush spoke McCain could cover his face.
Oh, also maybe they could forget to let Bush know the date of the convention.
And give him the wrong address.
And lock the doors before he gets there.

I was extremely disappointed and incensed by some of her behavior during the primaries, but I feel she anted up and kicked in nicely in the end! Both she and Bill, and I do believe in large part that is do to Obama's winning ways as well. He has been nothing but understanding, gracious and considerate of their feelings throughout this whole process (of course, as the presumptive nominee, he could afford to be in all fairness). Still, I give her mad props for getting it right in the end.

I watched her speech last night and thought she nailed it! And I really liked the laugh she got from her "Sisterhood of the Pantsuits" line. I think she gave her supporters enough reasons why they should support and vote Obama. NoCain is like Novocain, once it wears off you're still stuck with the pain.

I'll give her this much though, and that is, it was a great speech but I know Hillary enough to know that is was not delivered without duress and I can only imagine what kind of "deal" she struck with the Obama folks that would make someone who clearly had her own message to capitulate.
Could it be possible that the head of DNC in Arkansas knew something? I'm not acusing anyone of something here, I just find it odd that out of all the states it was Arkansas.
She simply stood up there and told everyone what they "wanted" to hear.-

As for duress...what do you suppose accounts for McCain's flip-flops on his past opposition to Bush? He opposed nearly all of Bush's policies six to eight years ago, and was viciously smeared by Bush's campaign in 2000. But now he falls in lockstep with EVERYTHING Bush supports.

George Soros and moveon.org went for Obama in February, so she probably didn't have a prayer--she did win the popular vote in the primary (without all states' delegates' votes being counted), but they didn't give the states all their votes back until it was agreed that she'd concede. They even said they weren't going to allow all the states and/or delegates to speak up in the nominating process, out of fear that she'd win. Soros is a rich bully, just like Michael Bloomberg, and his fingers are in so many pies, people don't even realize when he's pulling the strings.

Bill and Hillary have lost and won before, and they know that politics is both a dirty and a funny business. I think they handled it professionally and really want the dems to win. Hillary may have her eye on a specific job in the Obama administration.

Hillary is trying to hold the democrat party together. I don't think they will thank her for it. Have you ever heard of make your negative a positive. Racism was the negative he used to gain recognition. He knew that the black race strives on being discriminated against. There are times when they will use discrimination when there is none. Obama has spent enough time in and around Congress to know the dirt.. That is more and likely how he got those super delegates to give over their votes so easily. She was trying to run a clean race. That was good opposite psychology letting Rev. Wright continue to show his black supremacy side. Change, We need other parties. That's the change America needed, more representation for the average people. Too bad they didn't split the Dem party and the republican party. I was very disappointed when she decided she wanted to count the delegates from Michigan and Florida. It's childish to try to change the rules halfway through a race in order to eke out a win.

If she really cared about the voters in Michigan and Florida, she would have been trying from the moment the DNC decided not to count their votes to have that decision reversed.
If she valued their votes and wanted them included, she should have been encouraging her fellow candidates to leave their names on the ballot in Michigan, and urging them all to continue to campaign in Florida. Instead, she thought she wouldn't need them, but hedged her bets by leaving hers as the only big name on the Michigan ticket, and by running ads in Florida. So she guaranteed herself meaningless (though potentially momentum-affecting) victories in the two states.
Only when it became clear that she would need those voters did she even try to get their voices heard, when the vote was over and in her favour and the danger to her from Obama was clear.
Even so, if she'd put her money where her mouth was, her campaign could have offered to pay for a revote in each state, but I think she was afraid that the overwhelming support she claimed there wouldn't materialize. Instead, she tried to make it seem that she wanted a revote, but didn't push it, preferring to try to get something for nothing (which she eventually did, but it didn't help her enough). -

Has it occurred to anyone here that Hillary and Obama might have made a "deal" that night they met so surreptitiously? Perhaps they agreed on another position for her, like a cabinet position. For example, as Secy. of Health, she would have a big say on her pet project -- a health care plan for us. And it would keep her in the national spotlight in preparation for her next presidential run.

Clinton is toeing a very dangerous line, she has no desire to see Obama be President, but she cannot overtly bring him down because that would end her Presidential ambitions for all time.
Clinton supporters don't TRUST Obama? What do the THINK he is going to do? Policy will come from the Democratic Congress and Obama will go along with it for the most part.
I have no sympathy for Clinton or her supporters.
Clinton agreed to all the DNC rules, that included the fallout from Florida and Michigan's actions. There was no weighting by electoral map considerations.
Take out Michigan, where Obama was not even on the ballot, and Clinton loses the popular vote. Florida is skewed too anyway.
Clinton lost by agreed to rules.
But if some people who would rather put Clinton over country and give us four more years of neocon rule, by all means do it. I'm old enough that when I get drafted, they will use me in some stateside assignment while someone's kid gets sent to Iran to die.

i also just saw state after state defer to new york during the roll call and hillary came out and moved that the convention nominate obama immediately and a boisterously cheering concensus was affirmed. do not doubt that the democratic party is united and all resentment will fade by november.
i pondered at that moment too, about the power i saw as hillary proposed and speaker of the house nancy proceeded. we women have come a long way baby.
the clinton's time has come and gone and with luck, this week they will come to realize it. my only regret is that hillary isn't the ex president instead of bill...i always thought she'd do a better job.
i realized in 1992 that there was very little difference between the two parties in one regard at least, we were going into the "new world order" like it or not. the republicans have been dragging us kicking and screaming and the democrats are teasing us with a carrot. either way, we're going. except with obama i see some hope of redemption and a saner future for all.

i'm pretty fired up too, tango. but i was also pretty fired up 4 years ago. we've all got a lot of work to do. we must turn out the vote in november, especially all the newly registered. we'd also better volunteer to poll watch and keep an eye on those diebold voting machines. in fact, i suggest everyone use a paper ballot this time and make sure you have id and make sure ahead of time that your name is properly listed on the rolls. know where your precinct voting place is. if you need a ride, call your local dnc office and i'm sure they will be glad to give you a lift.

Ranchhand posted an article directly from snopes that snopes showed as unsubstantiated since May, and his supporters propped it to the top. In the old days we could have reported it and it would have just been removed. I hope they give warnings--I'm not sure what their policy is. He's usually a good dude.
