Short in stature, the Ohio congressman leaped up onto his tip toes time and again, thrusting his arms out and up, getting the crowd to roar so loudly he had to yell into the microphone to be heard.

i had the good fortune to meet him, briefly, at a friend's house. he impressed me as entirely honest, sincere, knowledgdable about issues, and willing to speak about them directly.

if obama wins, and gives dennis a prominent role, i promise to retract all the doubts and hesitations i've expressed about him... but i don't think brzezinski would go along.

berkeley, what an honor to have met that beautiful man!
I have a friend who ran into Dennis at a restaurant, and they had breakfast together.
he'll cherish that experience for a lifetime.

            I've met his wife.

But this is Kucinich's primary function - to lure progressives back into the Democrat fold, and in the end leave them to the tender mercies of DNC insiders who are not progressive at all.

he's made the difficult decision to stay with the party when it's leader, pelosi, opposes him at every turn. that was the one question he admitted was a constant challenge.

the dnc, for the past 15 years, have taken the corporate side at every opportunity. they are the opposite of progressive, and both clintons and gore support them fully.

it was a powerful speech. and, i cried when I realized they gave him such an unpopular time slot.
my favorite candidates from the 2 main parties were: dennis k. mike gravel, and ron paul, who i still support.

I'm a fan of Kucinich as well. But the only thing Kucinich and Paul have in common is that they both stand against "business as usual" in DC.

Paul is a true libertarian who wants the government to take a smaller role in every respect. Kucinich believes the government has an important function in balancing wealth inequity and protecting consumers from big business interests.

How can you agree with them both?

Actually, libertarianism is a philosophy that encompasses many economic positions for a governing body. There is even a libertarian communism and anarchy is also a form of left-wing libertarianism. Libertarian socialism is also an existing ideology. In fact, the term libertarian has more roots in left wing ideology then right wing. Our libertarian party is the exception, not the rule, as I understand it.

I never said I agreed with "both." But Dennis and Ron stand strong against all odds..

That's what you call balance Beau. They balance each other out. Compromise.

I remember years ago when I thought Perot and Brown would have made a good match.

early in the primaries, ron paul was asked who he would consider as his VP. his immediate answer was his good friend, dennis kucinich.

soon afterwards, dennis was asked about paul's comment. he noted that in his time in congress, many roll-call votes were 400-2. the two would be himself and ron paul. then he said he would be happy to serve with ron paul.

Did you misunderstand me? I agreed that I had originally wanted Kucinich to get the nomination -- not Ron Paul.

I don't care for the fact that Ron Paul has been willing to accept money from some hate groups; and I prefer Obama. But thanks for asking...

Dennis is the real deal. McCain's cheerleaders claim Obama is the most liberal man in congress...your kidding right? Dennis is a true liberal, the clownhammers don't have a clue what liberal means (why should they? They have even less of a clue what a conservative is. They think they are conservative and they think they hate liberals though).
Are there any real conservatives left? Bob Barr.

Ron Paul is the man I will support at election time. Unless he recommends someone else. then I will wholeheartedly go with the recommendation.

Obama is one of the most liberal Senators in congress. Dennis Kucinich is one of the most liberal in the House of Representatives. I give you he can work up a crowd with his rhetoric. But at the end of the day when cooler heads prevail most Democrats have nothing to do with him and are embarrassed to be seen with him. Explains why his proposals go nowhere and certainly explains why he had such a poor time slot. I really feel sorry for anyone who can be brought to tears by his deranged speeches. He can say "up with whatever" and get a rousing reply, but if he were to say, up with taxes, up with interest rates, up with inflation, up with terrorism, up with socialism, up with higher housing prices, I wonder how loud the applause would be? Yes, little Dennis is the first to complain about higher gas prices and the first to blame those nasty speculators (who must be Republicans), but he's the last to point out that the price of gas over doubled during the time the Congress was controlled by the Democrats. I'd be the last one to make this allegation/association. It doesn't make any difference which party is in power, the price will go up. I point this out to demonstrate how, with certain PC talking points you can get any crowd to cheer. Just play up to their prejudices.or ignorance as the case may be.

It doubled during the time the Democrats controlled Congress and The Republicans had already put all the economic policies in place in the 6 years prior. I know this is going to be a tactic used by conservatives quite often to blame Democrats. First they get in there, then they screw everything up and rape and pillage the country. Then a Democrat comes in and triesto bring in fiscal order again and let's the country prosper and another set of Republicans get in there and screw it up all over again. Then they blame the Democrats and the cycle starts all over again.

This works both ways. Under Clinton we thought we had an expanding prosperity. The dot com bubble began to burst during the last two quarters he was in office. Remember this wealth was on paper only. The housing market was next and had to burst sooner or later. People borrowed on artificially inflated home values. The market had to adjust, the homes were not worth the asking prices. So when 9/11 hit the economic policies were already in place by your way of thinking. You can make an argument for blaming Bush for the execution of the war, but not the economy. No president has the power to change our economy as you like to suggest. Events do. And both the Congress and the President do to some degree control events. They don't control attacks on our country. They don't control the weather. Only a demagogue would blame Bush or Clinton for a lot of what happened since 1992.. Both parties relish in blameing the other. Some bloggers get a kick out of the same thing. Guilty?

TAXES: who need taxes with Bush' s just charge it policy?
INTEREST RATES: the only reason the rates are so low now is Bush's print-more-money solution to his economic disaster.
INFLATION: We now have cost driven (thanks to the Bush-created instability in the oil market) AND demand driven (thanks to the low interest rates) inflation.
HOUSING PRICES: Thanks to the workings of Bush's dear friends in the sub prime-loan-industry such as Mr. Arnal (who Bush made Ambasador to the Netherlands in return for 8 million-plus in campaign donations) the housing industry is a MESS.

And you think this is a good thing???????

                                          blah blah blah blah blah.

democrats want nothing to do with kucinich and that's why he had a poor time slot at the dem convention?

um, ground control to major john!!

if the dems wanted nothing to do with him, he wouldn't have a time slot at the convention. duh.

Kucinich said what a lot of us know and feel. his speech is already being passed around the net big time. its already been sent to me by email (twice) and on facebook, all by seperate people.

you simply can't handle the truth.

McCain is dead in the water and the whole world knows it.

We're moving forward with or without you.

If the Democrats wanted to get the most media attention reflecting Kucinich's views they would have given him closer to prime time. They can not totally ignore him for to do so would be to alienate the extreme left wing of the party. DUH! Sure he said what a lot of you feel, but 1% is not much in the greater scheme of things. There are others in the Democratic mainstream who are far more important to the Democrats getting the White House in 2009. I choose to not accept your narrow view of the truth. I'm glad your moving forward but look behind you and see whose catching up. Reality I mean not McCain.

                                              ground control to major john:

thats not what you said. you're changing your arguement now cause you were wrong beofre and I pointed it out.

first, you said "...most Democrats have nothing to do with him and are embarrassed to be seen with him. Explains why his proposals go nowhere and certainly explains why he had such a poor time slot."

you're wrong. that simply ain't true. and I pointed that out.

and then you proved how wrong you were by trying to change the arguement by now saying, "If the Democrats wanted to get the most media attention reflecting Kucinich's views they would have given him closer to prime time."

                                              nope. still no prize.

the answer: maybe his place in line simply didn't warrant a better time slot. ever think of that einstein? who was he supposed to take the place of, Bill Clinton? Mark Warner? Michelle Obama? there's only a few prime time slots open to begin with. all the rest are secondary. which means kucinich was given the time slot that suited his position in the party. shouldn't take a genius to figure that one out.

his roll is to drag the entire conversation to the left a bit. and he did that. just look at you trying to blast him. you're even wlling to pull that old con "change the arguement" crap to try and do it. he obviously hit a nerve.

                                              and...
all of us dems were happy he spoke. not just the firnge 1%. he always has something good to say, and tonight he delivered. so to your claim that he was given a chance to speak so the fringe 1% wouldn't be alienated, well, that's just plain ridiculous.

ground control to major john: thanks for playing.

Well, you explain his accomplishments and why his proposals go nowhere then. If his role was to drag the party further to the left as you say, then he accomplished that. Kucinich could have warmed things up for the keynote speaker. Mark Warner's speech was conciliatory and invited the Republicans to join in change His was the message the Democrats were promoting not the divisive message of Dennis Kucinich. All the Democrats were happy he spoke? As their spokesperson, you must know. I for one think there was greater enthusiasm for Warner's presentation.

I feel Kucinich is a pain in the Democrats side, you like him. Fine! We disagree. So that makes me wrong and you and your 1% right!

I didn't say kucinich's role is to drag the party further to the left.

pay attention. I said his role is to drag the entire conversation to the left. which he has done. and you on being on this board is the proof.

Kucinich was my original pick for President. I hate what the Republicans and MSM did to make this candidate into a laughing stock. He truly should be our President, in my opinion.

Dennis made himself what he is, not the right wing media, not the Republicans, not even some in his own party who are centrists. Dennis is out there on the fringe and as such he would be naive not to expect ridicule from those who are not as extreme as he is. Read "the Cleveland Plain Dealer" for a perspective, you'll be surprised.

yes, dennis made himself who he is:

                                                          - a congressman who won 66% of the vote during his last election.

                                                          - a democrat who just gave an electirfying speech at the democratic convention at a critical time during our country's history while all of us are left to merely comment on it after the fact.

                                                          - a man who has always held on to his convictions, however "fringe" some guy who calls himself maj john might think those convctions may be. AND...how fringe can Kucinich really be if a) he carries a copy of the constituion wherever he goes and b) has a constituency that's obviously middle american in every way (Ohio dist. 10) and they keep voting for him.

                                                          - a guy who married a pretty hot woman, a woman thirty years his junior, a woman with a bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and Theology and a Master's degree in International Conflict Analysis who actually worked for Mother Theresa rather than lied about Mother Theresa (like Cindy McCain did. just one of her many lies).

yes. you're right. dennis kucinich made himself into who he is.

and he did a pretty good job.

Dennis Kucinich comes from a heavily ethnic community and did win by 66% of the vote in 2006 but barely won in the last primary. He was never seriously challenged until 2008. One of his reasons for dropping out of the presidential primary was to shore up support at home in that primary. This, in a heavily Democratic district. He was the first mayor of a major US city to run the city into bankruptcy and barely won a recall vote in 1978 by 236 votes. For some his speech at the convention was electrifying but for me it was divisive. Maybe I'm alone in this position, but I don't think so..

You suggest that only I place Kucinich into the fringes of politics in Washington. He was only one of 34 who sought to not count the votes in Ohio in the 2004 Presidential election. Mainstream, hardly. Fringe. He's introduced bills calling for the impeachment of the President. The house leadership has rejected his initiatives and the last time around sent it to committee where it in all likelihood will die. In April 2007 he brought articles of impeachment against the Vice President. It died in committee. In November of that year he tried the same thing with the same result. No floor vote, died in committee. Mainstream? Or fringe?. In March 2008 he wanted to join Obama and Clinton in debate and give his anti-war message. Never happened. They didn't want him. Fringe? After his 2000 presidential bid went nowhere & he promised to not run again. His ego got the best of him an he ran again. Clevelander's were offended as he cavorted with the Hollywood elite, while Cleveland with the highest home foreclosure rate in the nation was once again becoming a laughing stock.

The guy is on his third marriage to "a hot woman". This is commendable? McCain is married to a hot woman and it's his second time around but somehow many people find it offensive he left his first wife. And the fact that he married well is nice but irrelevant. McCain married well as well. Is there a double standard here?

Congratulations to both men for doing well in selecting a bed partner.

And so we are all commenting on his speech. Regardless of our feelings, there is no right or wrong here, just opinion. Now you know why I don't really like him, why do you find him to be so attractive?

kucinich wasn't my candidate. but I like him. he speaks the hard truth when others won't. he says things everyone else is afraid to say. he's unafraid to go out on a limb, and unafraid to be called "fringe" by people who actually are fringe, while other politicians dare not go there.

the guys got guts. and tonight he showed it. his speech was great. period.

I didn't vote for him in the primary but I really respect him.

and, um, yes. having a hot wife is commendable. it means the man has good taste in something at least. McCain's situation is offensive because he left his first wife, a wife who had waited for him while he was a POW, for cindy, who has a weird history with her own father leaving her mother for another woman. cindy's father went on to have two more children with this other woman. and now cindy mccain denies she has siblings. she has said over and over that she is an only child when she is not. and thats just plain strange. IN FACT, cindy cut off her half-siblings financially the day her father died. wow. those are some family values she's got going there. thats not hot. thats ugly. and..Cindy McCain may have been physically hot at one time, but she's had entirely too much work done to her face for my liking. when its easy to tell, as in cindy's case, thats a bad thing. she has entered joan rivers territory.

Dennis Kucinich, short in stature, a giant in moral and ethical dealings. Dennis was my Democrat of choice. Alas, it wasn't to be. So being an Independent I started to shop around for a good candidate, irrespective of party.

Those who make fun of him are usually jealous and often bigots who hate all liberals. Many of us have friends who are both conservative and liberal, but since meeting some of the neonazicons on propeller, I have learned about a group of people who simply hate all liberals, Jews, Blacks, foreigners, and gays.

It's a pleasure when you meet people who are not limited by the labels and stereotypes related to race, religion, sexual pursuasion, or political belief.

You think it's cute to call someone a neocon, because somehow in your mind it's a negative term, like "liberal" was made a nasty word. Even if you bothered to read my comments in this one post alone, I'd hardly fall into the category you have selected for me. Go back and read my prior comments. I support Israels right to exist in peace with it's neighbors. I not support settlements on Arab lands as a solution. I made many favorable comments for Obama because I preferred him over Hillary. I have never made a crude remark about sexual orientation. I live in a family who practices more than one faith. I've acknowledged many times that Bush's foreign policy left a lot to be desired and he's certainly no military genius. I suppose that I could have called you a left winged commie pinko but I will never stoop to that level. Keep on throwing the mud, I rather enjoy it, coming from you.
