Frankly populist, I think this issue is indicative of bigger problems with the current version of propeller.

As I look at the present frontpage, there is very little of substance on it. Mostly trivia is making the front page and this has been facilitated by the "groups" that block vote trivia. As I predicted from the beginning, the group mechanism has downgraded the value of propeller as a means of finding real information. Unfortunately, at the same time tools which allow users to find the stories that interest them have been downgraded and it is now MUCH more difficult to find stories with real substance.

As a long time user, I would guess that participation in propeller has declined rather significantly since the revision (another long time user recently sent me a message saying she felt lonely in the new propeller). I put this down to fewer tools that let users tailor usage to their interests and slow response times.

In the old version of propeller, we could all see who was responsible for the "garbage" stories and who was commenting in what ways. I have always felt that this acted in a "social hygiene" sense to stop some of the flaming wars, but this is no longer possible.

I used to provide factual information to rebut some of the obvious "flame distractions" without voting for them. It would be useful to stop counting comments as "props" for a story and let us see who actually voted for the story.
