Posted By STONERS 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsWith Russian soldiers occupying swaths of the Republic of Georgia , one might have thought that Russian President Dmitri Medvedev would have more pressing matters than scooting off to the Black Sea summer resort town of Sochi . But last week Medvedev did just that for a pleasant - and possibly ominous - bit of business: entertaining Syria's President Bashar al Assad , one of the few world leaders who have flown to Russia 's side during the Georgian crisis. The trip paid off for Assad when Russia agreed to strengthen military ties with Syria . According to the Russian press, Assad also offered to host advanced Russian missile systems on Syrian soil.

This could have dramatic consequences. Well gee, since Iran has said over and over again, it has plans to wipe Israel off the map. I just kinda think Israel may have a big problem on thier hands. If Israel doesn't act against Iran, then Israel may be wiped off the map. That would be a bad thing, don't you agree?...perhaps you don't!

This is all pretty scary! This just goes to show that Russia is not an ally and can't be trusted. Look what happened after they invaded Afghanistan (and we stuck our noses in where we didn't belong!) I hope to God that Israel doesn't launch an air strike against Iran and bring about nuclear war, not to mention further inciting violence from extremists.

You should never have trusted the USSR or Imperial Russia. When the Dark Lord, I mean Putin took power, freedoms ended. Political parties that disagreed with him were eliminated. Crime is as bad as ever. The only difference, it's controlled by the former and current police forces. FSB/KGB real government lead organized crime.

A broken promise made to Gorbachev not to push NATO up to Russia's borders, funding, arming and training former Soviet states on Russia's borders while advocating their NATO membership, the advancement of military bases into Central Asia, again on Russia's borders, and the so-called missile 'defense' shield, far away from the Middle East from whom the US claims it is supposed to offer protection but, ironically, once again, on Russia's border. It is your country that has shown to Russia and many other countries in this world that it is not an ally and not to be trusted. America's 'alliances' are entirely self-serving and exploitive offering little in return to lesser players other than that they are off the US hit list, for now.
The US has given no reason for Russia to trust its 'sweet, empty lies,' all the while encircling Russia militarily. If Russia were to fund, train and arm America's immediate neighbours I don't doubt you would not be pleased. And then of course there is America's imperial wars, using 'terrorism' as its excuse to invade and colonise.-

Actually Hamas, PLO, Abunida, AlQueada and a number of other terrorist groups have been trained and are trained by the KGB/FSB. We've been, over the years, able to trace most of the weapons the terrorists use to the USSR. This is war by proxy. They're not doing the actual shooting so it doesn't count. At least in the minds of the Russians. They're arming many of the same people we're fighting now.

If Russia were a grown up nation, they wouldn't be supplying to the Iranians nuclear technology, equipment, guidance systems and missile technology. Only a fool fails to realize the Soviets are back and mad again.-

Public school educated right? Let's discuss our weapons then and now. The PGM-19 Jupiter was a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) of the United States Air Force, removed from service by April 1963. This is a nuclear armed missile used mainly as an offensive weapon. The missiles we're proposing are very small interceptor type weapons and the radar control portion of this is in the Czech Republic. These are weapons launched only to shoot down incoming weapons. One thing the new Soviet Union is forgetting to mention was that the US offered to place this in Russia in a joint effort to stop Iranian missiles, they declined. Then again, where else would Russia be able to sell their ICMB technologies to. North Korea has no money. Cuba and Venezuela would be stopped. This is another example the USSR is back.

You're correct. The missiles we'd like to place in Poland really can't be used to attack first. They're over glorified anti aircraft weapons designed to bring down missiles. My question to Russia is what are you afraid of? If the US and USSR goes to war, the missiles launched from both sides will cross the polar ice caps. The only reason to fear a missile defense in the EU is if you're planning a first strike on the EU.

As for what you call 'defense,' both Russia and the world are well aware of how America is remarkably skilled at distorting the English language to make black seem white. To keep harping on about the word 'defense' in the light of America's aggressive behaviour is suspect. America's actions speak so loud nobody can hear a word it's saying.

The cold war never ended for Czar Putin. As broke as they were, the weapons and support continued to flow to nations like North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Somalia. Their goal is yet unclear to me. I thought the new flights over the North Pole to screw around with Canadian and US air commands was simply them flexing their muscles again. The destruction of Chechnya and virtual extermination of most males of fighting age, I wasn't sure that was their only goal. A new Czar was in power. Then the Georgian affair. Knowing the average Russian capabilities, even at the height of the cold war, this was clearly planned and staged weeks or even months before. Like WWI or WW2, it only took an excuse to invade a former republic.
No one has been poking the Bear. When you realized what this nation and many European nations provided the Russians, it amazes me they're acting like a bully again. Then again, they have a KGB officer as their new Czar.

This behavior by Russia is not new or surprising. It is also not the big picture. The big picture would have to include Russia's behavior with a host of anti-U.S. nations including Venezuela (selling them advanced fighter aircraft...), and Iran (selling them anti-aircraft missiles and anti-ship missiles, obviously designed to use against American assets.)
One of the important factors our press is NOT reporting on is the Shanghai Cooperative. What is the Shanghai Cooperative? If you don't know, you seriously need to look it up. Russia, China, and several "Stan" nations have made an alliance, designed to counterbalance the U.S. by opposing the U.S. wherever and whenever they can.
But what the Russians don't know or refuse to recognize is this... the alliance is only temporary and that when the Chinese are done squeezing every bit of benefit they can get out of it... they will turn on Russia, which is a nation which possesses some historically Chinese territory, and a nation which possesses vast resources and space that China is going to need for themselves in our lifetimes. Then when faced with advancing Chinese hordes and unable to stop them with nukes because China has them too... Russia will come crying to the West for help. Again. -

MMRHE.First place It would be after Russia defeated Canada,before they would accept said missles.JFK got horn-swaggled in the so called Cuban crisis.Am I the only american alive who is not afraid to say it.Kruchef was under no illusion that a missle from Cuba into america,would cause us to fire missles at Cuba.He knew damn well we would light up Russia like the forth of july,but his plan work well the missles were removed from Turkey. a clear game of chicken. We blinked. This in in it self prolonged the cold for decades.

I'm not naive enough think the Russians are not capable of the same kind of thuggery they used in the Cold War but let's be balanced here.
Our one sided alliance with Israel has and always will leave us vunerable to the kind of chicanery you mention vis-a-vis Iran and Syria. And North Korea is just another way of sticking it to us.
If we pursue a strategy they consider threatening. we can expect more of the same.
I never trusted Putin and we should view the Russians as adversaries in most situations.
And the way this administration has behaved internationally doesn't give us a whole lot of room to point fingers does it?
