  Excellent speech. He successfully reframed "hot" issues very briefly to suggest there is a middle ground that works, in part, for everyone, while not discounting disagreement. And a 95% tax cut on the middle class. It will be interesting to see how the overall plan looks. The speech was almost Clintonian in its attempt to bring people together.

        Guess what, if the armed forces are home, sitting on their hands, it will still cost 12B a month. Also did you not hear the statement that he was going to strengthen the Military, that is a code word for DRAFT. I am well over the draft age, but maybe you aren't. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.
        
        If you were not around during the Vietnam war, you have no idea how bad it can get. It is one thing to volunteer to be a warrior, it is another to be forced.

        Another example of putting YOUR TAKE on what he said. Code? And how would you know? And if he's going to withdrawal our troops responsibly, why would we need a draft.
        Hey, I was there during the Vietnam War. My draft number was 136 and I was drafted. So I know how bad it was. But why do you think Obama would implement a draft when he's said time, and time again, that he'd negotiate first and use the military option as a last resort? You continue to misinform and spread specious statement in hopes you sound intelligent and know what you're talking about. But you are clueless. And the $12 million a month is what we are spending in Iraq not the military as a whole. Borrow, borrow, borrow to pay for Bush's war...you just don't get it and probably never will.

        You must have a BO calculator just like your BO tire gauge.
        
        I pay for the Health insurance for my employees and it cost about $850.00 per month for a family. Which is a very good plan, $250 annual deductible, $20 copay, 1Million Dollar coverage, PPO.

        This is Group Health Insurance plan that I provide for my employees and myself. My company pays for this. The individual rate is around $330.00. My company pays 100%.
        
        What makes you think the Republicans control the Health Industry? I don't know who controls it, but I bet it is people from both parties.
        
        My biggest concern is I don't want the Government involved with my health. Next thing you know they will be making life and death decision about me or you and some people have a limited view about the sacredness of life.

        The govt will never be as involved in your health care as a for-profit health conglomerate, insurance company, or HMO such as Group Health. That is the fact.
        
        For-profit insurance: profit based on taking more of your money, giving you less healthcare, and reimbursing your health provider as much as possible.
        
        Medicare/medicaid: no profit motive or personal incentives for employees to deny you the medical care you paid for and deserve. In fact, monetary incentive for Uncle Sam to improve preventative care if anything.
        
        Medicare is also a several fold improvement over any insurance company in terms of efficiency. A fraction of the overhead means the more $ goes to your medical care. As a small business owner, it would be your right of course to add on other benefits, but lets face it, most small businesses have a very hard time competing with larger corporations for talent. Universal care would help level the playing field for small biz.

The entitlements to Halliburton and massive corruption of the the so-called reconstruction, the x-fold increase in costs to care for physically and mentally injured, and the cost of the war itself.         I don't think McCain has promised anything in this area which is fine by me. I don't want the Government involved in my health care.
        
        Lets see the last time we had someone promise universal health care (Bill Clinton) all we got was a tax increase.
        
        You have to keep in mind the Job is President not King, all a President can do is stop a bill from becoming a law. Only your House of Representatives can write a law, why haven't they? I am sure Bush would sign it if it made sense. After Bush signed "No child left behind" which was written by Ted Kennedy.

      actually he did say he would not raise taxes on small businesses, i guess you weren't listening closely enough. if you read the transcript, i think you'll find it.
      
      obama said nothing about "tax and spend". i think the proof in the pudding on our economy is how the last 30 years of "trickle down" economics sponsored by the republicans has completely failed to trickle down.
      
      the more money in the pockets of the poor, working and middle classes is only going to make the rich richer; the economy is a closed system ---it's not like there is a hole in the bottom of the bucket where all the money runs out. people will spend that money on more goods and services which will ultimately make more money for businesses. ditto with savings. if people choose to save instead of spend, the money will be used for investments, just like rich people's money.
      
      deregulation and the economic policies of the republican administrations over the last 30 years not been beneficial to the majority of americans.

      DamnLiberals, I have a question for you, did he say he would increase taxes on small businesses? I am a small business owner and i am not afraid of that...in my history I have done better under the DEMS...i don't mind more taxes with more business my experience under Clinton tells me that the DEMS will be good for me. Without the money i made those 8 years i don't know that i would still be in business...I can't find a single lender to get a loan from these days. Under Clinton they were throwing money at me! DEMS has always been good for small businesses that is why the country has hysterically done better economically under DEMS!

        If these people are paying as much taxes as they claim, they are the worst bussiness people on the face of the earth and deserve to go bankrupt.
        I own a small bussiness, my profits are half what they were during the Clinton years, my personal income is in a 40% tax bracket yet it was 33% making twice as much before Bush. But every business owner can deduct every penny of expense for running, promoting,supplying a business. For instance many wealthy business owners buy Yachts and take business associates fishing on it.. deduct the costs from their taxes, hire limos and drivers to ride around in deduct it from taxes, the list goes on. (this is not small business anyway...it's big biz but even my business deducts every expense before being taxed, can the average worker do that? NO.
        Experience shows me I do far better financially under Democrats, that Democrats are far more fiscally responsible. The worst and most irresponsible fiscal abuses in the history of the world were under Bush and Reagan. The only balanced budget submitted in my lifetime was Clinton's. Spin all you want these are the facts, I lived them with eyes open. Republicans talk is one thing, their actions-their record matters far more. It's abysmal.

        I too have had better years during the dems., and suffered the most during Nixon, Reagan, and Bush Jr. (I did quite well under Bush Sr,)

        In the past 20 years there has only been two years when the Dems ran the White house and Congress and that was 16 years ago. So to say you have done better under the Dems is misleading.

      Obama did say he would cut taxes on 95% of all Americans (since anyone making less than $5M is middle class according to McCain) and he would cut taxes for small business.

        Wrong. The architecture of the Clinton economic plan was approved during 1993 and '94, when Dems controlled both houses. In fact, the Senate vote was tied on the tax increase on the wealthiest top percentages and Gore had to cast the tiebreaker. At the time, Bob Dole said if Clinton's plan became law, the country would go into a deep recession. He was wrong, and paid for being wrong in 1996. Only later did the GOP Congress try to hold the budget hostage, but it lost that battle, too. BTW: We had tax increases twice in the early 90s - one from GHWB and one from BC - and the economy roared along for everyone, including those whose taxes were raised. It was only after tax cuts under GWB that the engine ran out of steam.

      So, I gather you are in favor of borrow and spend vs tax and spend? In order to improve our situation, brought to us courtesy of Bush politics of borrow and spend, we are going to have to raise taxes. Simple fact of life. I would rather attempt at cutting the deficit now vs handing it down to the next generation, ( although it is inevitable they will inherit the legacy of borrow and spend). I think the Chinese own more than enough of our country and this candidate is giving the American people the opportunity to take it back. Once again, for the people, by the people, and not TO THE PEOPLE like we've endured for the past 8 years. You say tax and spend ruins the country? I challenge that, look at what borrow and spend is doing?
