Comments for Obama: Respected Reporter Mobbed by Obama Followers in Radio Appearance »
Posted By Karlyc 1 year, 4 months ago in NewsObama supporters risibly complain that shining a light on the Obama/Ayers relationship is a “smear” and smacks of “guilt by association.” A presidential candidate’s choice to associate himself with an unrepentant terrorist would be highly relevant in any event — does anyone think the Obamedia would keep mum if John McCain had a long-standing relationship with David Duke or an abortion-clinic bomber?
But we are talking about more than a mere “association.”

That is some good reading. Sounds like Obama is running the mob or some sort of strong arm organization. Obama CAN'T control everyone and how they think. He really should grow up and take it like a man and not try to strong arm everyone who doesn't care for him or disagrees with him. People are going to be sorry when they get to really know him. God help this country.

Obama has a relationship with Ayers, a prominent fixture in the Chicago's political scene and a professor no less. And...
There's the problem. No punchline.
I don't know where Cons get off. The Foxies have Oliver North on the payroll. Why don't they ostracize a guy who sold weapons to our enemies?

Justice, I don't know what he's hiding, that's why it's being brought up in the media. If I had all the answers, I would not be here. If Obama would just come clean instead of trying to brush it under the rug as he did with Rev. Write or his deals with Rezco, I wouldn't have doubts like this. If Obama keeps campaigning as the candidate of change and that he practices a new style of politics, I would not have these questions. If Obama was more experienced and had more than three years in Washington behind him, I would not ask these questions. If Obama answered real questions about real issues facing the American people, I would not have these questions. Yes, I ask a lot of questions about the man who wants to lead us for the next four years, as our Commander in Chief while at the same time berates a man who served his time in a POW camp.

As far as TNT's comment goes; I'm not digging, smearing, implying or making innuendo, I'm just looking for the answer that Obama is obviously hiding. The man is known for his lingustic skills, I'm sure he can come up with one, Now, if I believe him, that's another story.

In Obama’s own words, Ayers was "just a guy who lives in my neighborhood"
Reply
Then what came to light:
Ayers hosted the campaign kickoff fundraiser for Obama's first State Senate run.
An ad comes out about the Obama-Ayers relationship. What does Obama do - complain to the FEC - NO
Complain to the FCC - NO
He sends a letter to the Justice Dept asking for the group that funded the ad to undergo a criminal investigation. Why would he do that? Intimidation plain and simple
Now it comes to light that they worked together on the CAC for several years
If Obama had been honest from the beginning, this wouldn't get very much press
It's what politicians never seem to learn - if they tell the truth from the beginning, it wouldn't blow up in their faces
Now with the actions being taken by the Obama campaign itself, he is making it look like there is something to hide-

Ok, that sounds fair to me. Let’s discuss another remark that Obama had about this subject.
Reply
“The notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense,”
Ayres is a few years older than Obama, of course, there no direct correlation there. But they did not meet 40 years ago, therefore, that makes this comment entirely moot. However, the values thing, maybe a person who is very motivated in rnning for political office should use better judgment in picking his friends. Maybe the good Reverend Wright introduced him to him. Actually, I think that Tony Rezko introduced them. As intelligent as Obama is, you think that he would know better, and should shy away from people like this. Yet, this connection “doesn’t make much sense” to him.
Do you still want to discuss more of his remarks?-

All day you have been running off about coming up with facts, and yet, you just keep throwing the same spin on the original topic. McCain, nor any other republican has anything what so ever, to do with Obama and Ayres sitting on this board. What is Obama hiding that he needs to get the DoJ involved in? The only major legislation he has sponsored is the new United Nations sponsored "Poverty Act", where the "rich" nations give 0.7% of their GDP to "poor nations". It seems, by this article, that if you run a radio call in show, and people call in to disagree, that qualifies as being "mobbed." It also hints that if a group of people disagree and peaceably call in their objections, one by one, that is somehow unethical. The Ayers smear is getting old. Look, there is no question that Senator Obama and William Ayers know each other. No one is denying that. They served on a board together (the Annenberg Foundation), worked in two separate parts of the Woods Fund and Ayers hosted a meet and greet for candidate Obama when he was running for state Senate. He also donated $200 to Obama's campaign.
Reply
Now, none of these associations in any way suggest that Senator Obama looks to William Ayers as a mentor or counselor. Neither does it suggest that William Ayers is involved in Senator Obama's campaign. Also, Senator Obama has said repeatedly that Ayers is not someone with whom he "regularly speaks". So, based upon these facts, the only remaining conclusion is that what people like Kurtz are trying to do is build a case of guilt by association. There is no reliable information that leads us to the conclusion that Ayers and Obama are anything other than passing acquaintances.
On the other hand, since we are talking about associates of the candidates, Senator McCain associated closely with a convicted felon named Charles Keating. While Senator Obama has a passing acquaintance with a man who was once charged with a crime (the charges against Ayers were dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct), Senator McCain was close friends with Keating who was convicted of fraud, racketeering and conspiracy. Senator McCain accepted campaign donations from Keating (and his associates) exceeding $100,000. They were close, personal friends with Senator McCain traveling in Keating's private jet, spending time at Keating's personal resort in the Bahamas and investing in enterprises that Keating had. Now, it's true that Senator McCain did eventually pay for these trips, but that was not until Keating ran into trouble with regulators.
So, which is worse? A passing acquaintance with whom there is little contact other than business and social circumstances or a close, personal friend who is a convicted felon and bilked thousands of people out of millions of dollars?
I know what I would say.-

Well, no there is a difference here. John McCain knew something was shady in this deal. He bailed, later, when he was investigated, his name was obviously brought up; he was cleared of any wrong doing. Basically, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The investigation showed that he didn't want anything to do with this mess. This is all common knowledge. When I seen your earlier comment, all I did was run a search on "The Keating Five". The WikiPedia came up first out of like 62,000,000,001 results. The web is full of political stories right now with being so close to the election.
Reply
Where I'm seeing the difference in the Obama/ Ayres situation, is nobody really knows what happened yet. If these papers were released and were to become public knowledge, the press might lighten up on the story if they see no wrong doing, just like the media is not paying attention to the Keating Five. But Obamas' camp seem to be doing everything possible to hide the this story. Obama should realize this. Normally he is confidant enough to play down a negative story that surfaces about him. Why does he feel this one has to stay under wraps? And why go to the DoJ instead of the FEC? Maybe it's that bad that he needs a headstart on his defense.
As far as being close personal friends, I think it was more a close business relationship, like between a business owner and a long time vendor. They each needed something from one another. I don't think they were all buddy- buddy, hanging out by the pool drinking a beer on Saturday afternoon type of thing; not close personal friends at all.

Interesting casual association between OBama and Ayers:
Reply
FTA:
As he has made clear several times before and after helping to launch Obama’s political career, Ayers remains defiantly proud of bombing the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol, and other targets.
Ayers and Obama have made joint appearances together; they have argued together for “reforms” of the criminal justice system to make it more criminal-friendly; Obama gushed with praise for Ayers’ 1997 polemical book on the Chicago courts; and they sat together for three years on the board of the Woods Fund, a left-wing enterprise that distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to their ideological allies. Most significant, they worked closely together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC).
The CAC was a major education reform project, proposed by Ayers, which was underwritten by a $49.2 million grant from the Annenberg Foundation, complemented by another $100 million in private and public funding. The project ran for about five years, beginning in 1995. As the liberal researcher Steve Diamond has recounted, Ayers ran its operational arm, the “Chicago School Reform Collaborative.” Obama, then a 33-year-old, third-year associate at a small law firm, having no executive experience, was brought in to chair the board of directors, which oversaw all “fiscal matters.”
Can you disprove the author's line of reasoning that OBama and Ayers had more than a casual personal or political relationship?
