The Mondale-Ferraro ticket of the 21st Century. He's going down (she probably is too) and this way the party can blame the inexperienced woman for the loss, and not have to run a woman again for 40 years because they've "proved" they don't hate women in high office.

It is pretty clear that Palin is either incredibly incompetent or just corrupt. Useful links in these articles.

Some things you didn't know about Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin left the finances of her town Wasilla in tatters when she moved on in 2002 (h/t xgz). She wanted a legacy as mayor, it seems, and pushed hard for the town to build a hyper-expensive sports complex. But Palin screwed the process up badly. Instead of buying the land for the complex when it was offered, her administration allowed a developer named Gary Lundgren to snap it up. Then Wasilla tried to seize the land from Lundgren through eminent domain. In the end, what with court costs Wasilla paid at least $ 1.7 million for land it could have bought for less than one tenth that sum - if the purchase had been handled properly. For this incompetence, Wasilla is still paying a steep price: higher taxes and cutbacks in services. In other words Palin is about as efficient as Michael Brown, onetime head of FEMA.
Diarist loyalson, a resident of Wasilla, has more to say about the damage Palin did to his town while she was mayor.

Hold on DoseASpinoza… after learning who John McCain VP pick was, I started my own research. Knowing nothing about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (like most of us), I've come to find article after article similar to this… I can see why folks feel comfortable with her.

Everyone deserves a chance… she certainly has what it takes… the interest, self confidence and she is aggressive, she’s clear about her positions her beliefs. If she felt she couldn’t do it, she won’t have accepted. Think about that… would you take on such a feat? It’s a huge step. Let's see what happens.
At anyrate, all this babble about “no experience” tells us nothing about her intelligence.
Sometimes we get hooked on key words (used repeatedly through the media, internet) and we begin to follow the piper. By right… she deserves the chance… couple that with more time and we will learn what we need to know.-

Interest, self confidence and aggression. What an odd combination to describe having "what it takes" to be a step away from the Presidency of the United States. -

I guess I'm still wondering why she was chosen VP over all those other guys who ran for President and who have way more experience than she does and if she is a better choice than they are, why is her name just coming up now? This is just so calculating and such obvious pandering. But the GOP is famous for tokenism by now so I guess I'm not entirely surprised. Then again, I guess they knew better than to try to kill two birds with one stone by drafting Condi (who never stood a chance since she's been an abysmal failure as Sec of State) or even one by drafting Powell (since he's still thoroughly disgusted by his party's criminality and lies to be associated with them).

Could McCain have possibly made a decision more obviously a reaction to the Democratic party than about a sound choice for the 2nd executive of the country? I doubt it.

I think the Dan Quayle comparison will probably wind up being the most appropriate, once all is said and done. -

anyone who thinks hillary supporters are going to flock to palin just because both of them are women is serioulsy delusional. you'd have to be stupid to assume all women think alike.

but then again, after hearing mccain's famous rape joke, I can see how mccain would conclude something so stupid and narrow minded about a group that makes up over half of the world's population.-

Palin thinks women will flock to her because she's a woman. She even mentioned Hillary & the cracks in the 'glass ceiling.' She's a superficial woman, who thinks because she has the same parts, other women will gush over her. Bizarre. It's the only word I can come up with to describe this joke. it's bizarre!

PUMA membership has declined to 9,000. That will not win the election McCain with a running mate who is pro life, anti gay, pro guns and someone who has never been exposed to the diversity of this country.

So far I have to say I'm underwhelmed....She was asked if she's qualified to be President and all she came up with was basically "Thanks".
Reply
She has a shrill speaking voice and their body language is screaming "Uncomfortable!"
This will be McCain's undoing! -

Why would McCain have a heart attack at 72 ,I'm seventy five I just had a complete physical, including a complete stress test with all the bells, and whistles. Not one blocked artery, no sign of artery disease.I intend to live to see McCain run in 2012.

Game changing moment, to pick one of the most inexperienced women in politics for the 2nd most powerful position in the free world? I am all for shattering that glass ceiling but how about doing it with Elizabeth Dole, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, or Kay Hutchison who have a lot more experience than being a near neighbor to Russia. Well, maybe with her inexperience John McCain thinks he can pay her less than any other vice president before her!
