The Mondale-Ferraro ticket of the 21st Century. He's going down (she probably is too) and this way the party can blame the inexperienced woman for the loss, and not have to run a woman again for 40 years because they've "proved" they don't hate women in high office.

by picking palin, mccain undercut his own arguement about the need for experience.
its also clear that mccain picked palin solely to help him win the presidency, not for the very real and important job of vice president.
and what's totally obvious is that palin was not his first choice. mccain has only spoken to her once, so how could she be? which means something went very wrong during the selection process.
palin's feel good story will wear off in a few hours, and then its all bad for mccain.-

You liberals just kill me. Sarah Palin is 2nd on the ticket, not 1st. She has a wealth of more experience than Obama.
Reply
Obama - no executive experience, never governed anything, spent approx 2 years in senate, rest of time was launching presidential bid, never wrote any major piece of legislation, has no foreign policy experience. Promotes himself as a change agent, yet picks an old school Washington Senator for a running mate.
Palin - Had 5 years of executive experience before Obama was even elected to senate. Was a mayor, and now governor of Alaska. As opposed to senators, governors make critical decisions everyday. She cleaned up corruption in her own party. Ran against an incumbent republican governor and won. Has a 80% favorable rating as governor.-

She is actually under investigation for firing Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner because he wouldn't fire a police officer who was Palin's ex-brother-in-law. Hell hath no fury...

She has been instructed turn over emails and records. The beauty queen is in trouble after only 2 years in office. -

What did Clinton's use of Jimmy Carter's experience get us in North Korea?
Reply
You Democrats have already proven how dangerous "experience" can be when it's detached from reality.
And the argument McCain makes is intact inasmuch as Palin has had to make--as governor--executive decisions that would make or break her as a state politician. She currently enjoys a positive rating among Alaskans well North of 80%. However, I think focus on experience is unhealthy for both ticketc. Focus on the negative is likewise not going to serve either party well.
Obama and McCain need to focus on presenting themselves and their policies to the American people. We're not stupid...we can make the decision that we believe is best for the country.-

and bush had plenty of "executive experience" going in.
Reply
exec experience obviously don't mean squat. that line already doesn't work when faced with the reality of the bush administration.
the cons will have to come up with something new. which is not their forte.-

Clinton was an executive and he had a chance to put Osama away and chose not to.If he had we would not have had a 9/11 and would not have had to send our troops to fight for our country. Wake up people. Your right executive experience in itself does not work. It is the way you govern that matters. Sarah Palin has done more in her short stay in office than Obama/Biden has done combined. As Bill Clinton says best, You have candidate x (Obama) that believes everything that you do and candidate y (Mccain) that only believe in half but your don;t believe x Obama will do anything and you believe y mccain will. Who do you vote for. Let me see, one that won;t do anything or one that will? I vote for mccain/palin

Alaskan republicans just chose a corrupt doddering old fool (Ted Stevens) again - pretty much shows their incompetence. As for Palin, she was in over her head as mayor of a town of 5000 and is clearly in over head as governor of a state with 700,000 people.
So Many Republican Hypocrites, So Little Time
Alaskan Republicans voting for Ted Stevens
Your U.S. Senator is under indictment for corruption. He has shown signs of a lack of understanding of the 21st Century. And he's been around for a long time, and is older than John McCain by 13 years.
So you have a primary with a chance to substitute someone else in your party to run in a tight battle in November. And what do you do?
....
You had a shot at putting democracy and even party ahead of corruption, and you failed. So we proudly give to the 63% of Republicans who voted for Ted Stevens this week the GOP Hypocrite of the Week award.

It is pretty clear that Palin is either incredibly incompetent or just corrupt. Useful links in these articles.

Some things you didn't know about Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin left the finances of her town Wasilla in tatters when she moved on in 2002 (h/t xgz). She wanted a legacy as mayor, it seems, and pushed hard for the town to build a hyper-expensive sports complex. But Palin screwed the process up badly. Instead of buying the land for the complex when it was offered, her administration allowed a developer named Gary Lundgren to snap it up. Then Wasilla tried to seize the land from Lundgren through eminent domain. In the end, what with court costs Wasilla paid at least $ 1.7 million for land it could have bought for less than one tenth that sum - if the purchase had been handled properly. For this incompetence, Wasilla is still paying a steep price: higher taxes and cutbacks in services. In other words Palin is about as efficient as Michael Brown, onetime head of FEMA.
Diarist loyalson, a resident of Wasilla, has more to say about the damage Palin did to his town while she was mayor.

It is clear that Palin was already in over her head as mayor of Wasilla and is racking up the same record of failure as governor of Alaska. Just another "con" pretty face incompetent - kind of like Harriet Myers.

Sarah Palin was my mayor
Sarah Palin's leadership in Wasilla was a disaster for the town with an explosion of urban sprawl with zero sustainibility. Schools deteriorated badly under Palin.

Palin's Post-Scandal Appointee Served Just Two Weeks

After the allegedly improper firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) appointed former Kenai Police Chief Chuck Kopp to the post - even though she knew Kopp had been reprimanded for sexual harrassment.

Sarah Palin -Investigated for Abuse of Power
Palin circles the wagons: Transparency a casualty
Seems like just yesterday, Sarah Palin was on a passionate crusade for open and transparent government. Fighting the Randy Ruedrichs and the Greg Renkes of the world, demanding a government that allowed a clear view for all to see from the outside.
Today it appears time for Palin to write an obituary for that noble crusade.
In a shocking interview with Anchorage Daily News Reporter Lisa Demer on Thursday, Palin's Communication Director Bill McAllister defended the administration's abandonement of their "open and transparent government" promise by saying it didn't really apply to everything.-

On November 1, 2007 after the indictment of Vic Kohring, Palin's press release stated, " Public trust and integrity are the foundation of good government. This reaffirms my commitment to conduct the people’s business in an open and transparent fashion.”
Reply
On March 28, 2006 in a press release regarding putting the state's checkbook online she said it was part of implementing her mandate for more open, transparent government.
In the interview with McAllister, the ADN's Demer ask him if the Palin administration was backing away from it's "guiding principle" of open and transparent government.
McAllister offered Demer another shocking response, "Open and transparent does not mean you lose all common sense and conduct everything out in the open."
...The truth is this entire administration has begun to batten down the hatches due to the Branchflower investigation.-

The recent opinion by Attorney General Talis Colberg that state employees have a right to privacy while using state issued communication equipment has set off a heated debate and one that will undoubtedly end up in court.
Reply
In addition, the governor's Department of Administration appears on the verge of enacting more stringent requirements for the public to ask for public records....
... One has to wonder, what if Governor Murkowski attempted this brazen move while Palin was waving the red flag about Randy Ruedrich and Greg Renkes using state resources for personal business.
The news regarding the death of open government has not been greatly exaggerated.
