The Mondale-Ferraro ticket of the 21st Century. He's going down (she probably is too) and this way the party can blame the inexperienced woman for the loss, and not have to run a woman again for 40 years because they've "proved" they don't hate women in high office.

by picking palin, mccain undercut his own arguement about the need for experience.
its also clear that mccain picked palin solely to help him win the presidency, not for the very real and important job of vice president.
and what's totally obvious is that palin was not his first choice. mccain has only spoken to her once, so how could she be? which means something went very wrong during the selection process.
palin's feel good story will wear off in a few hours, and then its all bad for mccain.-

You liberals just kill me. Sarah Palin is 2nd on the ticket, not 1st. She has a wealth of more experience than Obama.
Reply
Obama - no executive experience, never governed anything, spent approx 2 years in senate, rest of time was launching presidential bid, never wrote any major piece of legislation, has no foreign policy experience. Promotes himself as a change agent, yet picks an old school Washington Senator for a running mate.
Palin - Had 5 years of executive experience before Obama was even elected to senate. Was a mayor, and now governor of Alaska. As opposed to senators, governors make critical decisions everyday. She cleaned up corruption in her own party. Ran against an incumbent republican governor and won. Has a 80% favorable rating as governor.-

What did Clinton's use of Jimmy Carter's experience get us in North Korea?
Reply
You Democrats have already proven how dangerous "experience" can be when it's detached from reality.
And the argument McCain makes is intact inasmuch as Palin has had to make--as governor--executive decisions that would make or break her as a state politician. She currently enjoys a positive rating among Alaskans well North of 80%. However, I think focus on experience is unhealthy for both ticketc. Focus on the negative is likewise not going to serve either party well.
Obama and McCain need to focus on presenting themselves and their policies to the American people. We're not stupid...we can make the decision that we believe is best for the country.-

Clinton was an executive and he had a chance to put Osama away and chose not to.If he had we would not have had a 9/11 and would not have had to send our troops to fight for our country. Wake up people. Your right executive experience in itself does not work. It is the way you govern that matters. Sarah Palin has done more in her short stay in office than Obama/Biden has done combined. As Bill Clinton says best, You have candidate x (Obama) that believes everything that you do and candidate y (Mccain) that only believe in half but your don;t believe x Obama will do anything and you believe y mccain will. Who do you vote for. Let me see, one that won;t do anything or one that will? I vote for mccain/palin

Your U.S. Senator is under indictment for corruption. He has shown signs of a lack of understanding of the 21st Century. And he's been around for a long time, and is older than John McCain by 13 years.
So you have a primary with a chance to substitute someone else in your party to run in a tight battle in November. And what do you do?
....
You had a shot at putting democracy and even party ahead of corruption, and you failed. So we proudly give to the 63% of Republicans who voted for Ted Stevens this week the GOP Hypocrite of the Week award.

Some things you didn't know about Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin left the finances of her town Wasilla in tatters when she moved on in 2002 (h/t xgz). She wanted a legacy as mayor, it seems, and pushed hard for the town to build a hyper-expensive sports complex. But Palin screwed the process up badly. Instead of buying the land for the complex when it was offered, her administration allowed a developer named Gary Lundgren to snap it up. Then Wasilla tried to seize the land from Lundgren through eminent domain. In the end, what with court costs Wasilla paid at least $ 1.7 million for land it could have bought for less than one tenth that sum - if the purchase had been handled properly. For this incompetence, Wasilla is still paying a steep price: higher taxes and cutbacks in services. In other words Palin is about as efficient as Michael Brown, onetime head of FEMA.
Diarist loyalson, a resident of Wasilla, has more to say about the damage Palin did to his town while she was mayor.

Sarah Palin -Investigated for Abuse of Power
Palin circles the wagons: Transparency a casualty
Seems like just yesterday, Sarah Palin was on a passionate crusade for open and transparent government. Fighting the Randy Ruedrichs and the Greg Renkes of the world, demanding a government that allowed a clear view for all to see from the outside.
Today it appears time for Palin to write an obituary for that noble crusade.
In a shocking interview with Anchorage Daily News Reporter Lisa Demer on Thursday, Palin's Communication Director Bill McAllister defended the administration's abandonement of their "open and transparent government" promise by saying it didn't really apply to everything.-

On November 1, 2007 after the indictment of Vic Kohring, Palin's press release stated, " Public trust and integrity are the foundation of good government. This reaffirms my commitment to conduct the people’s business in an open and transparent fashion.”
Reply
On March 28, 2006 in a press release regarding putting the state's checkbook online she said it was part of implementing her mandate for more open, transparent government.
In the interview with McAllister, the ADN's Demer ask him if the Palin administration was backing away from it's "guiding principle" of open and transparent government.
McAllister offered Demer another shocking response, "Open and transparent does not mean you lose all common sense and conduct everything out in the open."
...The truth is this entire administration has begun to batten down the hatches due to the Branchflower investigation.-

The recent opinion by Attorney General Talis Colberg that state employees have a right to privacy while using state issued communication equipment has set off a heated debate and one that will undoubtedly end up in court.
Reply
In addition, the governor's Department of Administration appears on the verge of enacting more stringent requirements for the public to ask for public records....
... One has to wonder, what if Governor Murkowski attempted this brazen move while Palin was waving the red flag about Randy Ruedrich and Greg Renkes using state resources for personal business.
The news regarding the death of open government has not been greatly exaggerated.

Hold on DoseASpinoza… after learning who John McCain VP pick was, I started my own research. Knowing nothing about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (like most of us), I've come to find article after article similar to this… I can see why folks feel comfortable with her.
Reply
Everyone deserves a chance… she certainly has what it takes… the interest, self confidence and she is aggressive, she’s clear about her positions her beliefs. If she felt she couldn’t do it, she won’t have accepted. Think about that… would you take on such a feat? It’s a huge step. Let's see what happens.
At anyrate, all this babble about “no experience” tells us nothing about her intelligence.
Sometimes we get hooked on key words (used repeatedly through the media, internet) and we begin to follow the piper. By right… she deserves the chance… couple that with more time and we will learn what we need to know.-

Palin was a mayor and governor. She has fought corruption wherever she has found it while in or out of office. One of the things that springboarded her into being governor was getting a group of bipartison corrution stopped and some going to jail.-

I guess I'm still wondering why she was chosen VP over all those other guys who ran for President and who have way more experience than she does and if she is a better choice than they are, why is her name just coming up now? This is just so calculating and such obvious pandering. But the GOP is famous for tokenism by now so I guess I'm not entirely surprised. Then again, I guess they knew better than to try to kill two birds with one stone by drafting Condi (who never stood a chance since she's been an abysmal failure as Sec of State) or even one by drafting Powell (since he's still thoroughly disgusted by his party's criminality and lies to be associated with them).

Well, according to the AOL polls, this is an absolutely BRILLIANT move on the part of John McCain. I'M thinking, "What a MAROON!!!" In one fell swoop, he just dismantled his OWN argument that Obama is not experienced enough to be president! But Palin IS?!!?? DUH!! Although I have serious reservations about Obama, I have to believe that if THIS is the kind of judgement we can expect from THIS guy, we do NOT need him as president! But maybe he can fall back on his supposed "maverick" schtick (even though he voted Bush's way most of the time during this disastrous administration) and get over THAT way. I DO think he's going to win, but he's not making it easy.

Let's not count Palin out yet. With her "professional" background, leadership experience, demeanor and attractive face, Palin could be excellent at foreign politics. She could tell foreign leaders to practise unsafe sex, have several chidlren, go hunting, go to church (that should go well with Evangelicals), eat Moosebrugers (that should go well with the Iraqis and Ahmedinejad for example) and she could tell women in the Middle East who have been raped and are pregnant that an abortion would be sinful. She could tell the Saudis to go to hell because Alaska has oil. And, as she said in one of her speeches she has "not thought much about the Iraq war," the Iraqis will be all to happy. Maybe she can teach them hockey?

I was voting McCain anyway, but I really like Palin, so far. I think other American's will like how she appears to stand behind her beliefs. That is applaudable, I am soooo sick of politicians, politics, Bush bashers, the war in Iraq, Obama Frenzies, CNN and FOX biases, negative ads, this election, and basically RUDE remarks. Why can't we have two sides that plainly state their beliefs, and we choose who we agree with most? Why all this name calling, hate mongoring, negativity, that brings us all down. I am so tired of it all, and I know I am not alone. Look, we all have reasons we vote how we vote, and thank God we are able to pick our leader through a democratic process, so let's show some respect. I believe the reason Palin is causing such an uproar is because she is a breath of fresh air in this down-ward spiral of an election. I will admit, I am skeptical about her foreign experience, but not any more than I am with Obama's. But I admit, it would not matter who McCain picked (although Romney would've been a stretch) I would vote for him.

It wasn't until I heard the accomplishments of Sarah Palin that I realized how empty Obamas resume really was .He really hasn't accomplished much at all. Sarah Palin has done so much more in her few years in office than any of the other candidates. The news media is doing such a disservice by being so one sided on there coverage. You can definately see who they are voting for. I tuned in to Fox News and watched their coverage and then NBC and there non coverage. if you want to be more informed, choose a news media that is not trying to sell their candidate and one that will allow you to choose on your own by having all the information you need to make the right decision. To me McCain had guts and great courage to put her on his ticket. He truely made a good choice. and thats why I am voting for McCain/Palin
