mccain barely got through annapolis. that he is the gop nominee is beyond belief. so it makes sense that his team would pick someone beyond belief.

I also saw the story about how NOW McCain and his cronies apparently think that "inexperience" is just fine. She has only been in state politics for 2 years and was a Mayor of a town of 6000 people before that.

He is just a Senator for 3 years and spent 2 of them on the road trying to BS all you Dems to let him be the Messiah.
Sarah was a Governor of a state.
That is much more Qualifying than Senator / community organizer.

Palin was a mayor of a town of 6000 people - that's tough, I'm sure.
And she has been a governor for 1/5 years - wow.
She has NO national or international political experience, whereas Obama has been in the NATIONAL senate, after serving in the Illinois Senate, and has WAY more experience that Palin does.
To actually state that Palin has more experience than Obama only proves that you will say ANYTHING about someone who is a Republican even when the DOCUMENTED prove says otherwise. So erroneous ....-

Saracuda took on big oil in Alaska. Result? By the end of this year, every man, woman and child in Alaska gets a check for $1,200. You Crats got a problem wih that?
Her husband may DO work for BP, but he's a union steelworker. Thus, he goes where his union hall sends him. Nice try, though. No really...how many Republicans know how that works? There's no way you could know that one my best friends is a millwright who works power houses along the Ohio river.
Saracuda. Democrats, it is NOT safe to go back in the water!!
BTW, with a major hurricane bearing down on Chocolateville, I wonder if Nagin is getting prepared this time. You know...making sure all the malcontents have lots of ammo to fire on relief helicoptors ??? Isn't that the Nwallins way? I watched the Iowa flooding to see if those folks learned how to handle relief helicoptors the Demcorat way, and ya know...they didn't seem to catch on.-

I’ll admit that I think she is rather attractive. Much more doable than Cheney, but she also has a little of that smarmy “Church Lady” from SNL look about her.

If she plays well with the republican base, they’re even more out to lunch than I thought.
But, I’m glad that she is McCain’s choice. If the Democrats can’t hammer the republicans into the ground after this ridiculous gaff, then they don’t deserve to be in office.-

I felt some fear when i first learned of it, I admit that. I knew that, fiscally at least, she was rather well thought of in the moderate Republican circles. Little did I know of the completely bizarre social conservative levels she believes in. It might solidify the base, but I think it just hurt with women rather then helped. My own mother, upon hearing of this woman, just said there is no chance in hell she's voting McCain. My mother voted for Bush, if that's an indicator.

When I read through Palin's professional background, listen to her speeches, watch her demeanor on TV, I am afraid world leaders are laughing at McCains choice for VP. You are saying exactly what I have been trying to hammer home to the rabid, republican sycophants that inhabit these threads. They are so busy cheer leading on cue, that they haven’t even stopped to think about what it is they are cheering about.
Contrary to the opinion of lonely, ageing, bachelors and delusional republicans, women are not interchangeable and the skirt wearing set isn’t about to vote for someone just because they too wear a skirt. No doubt women are enthusiastic about seeing a sister break new ground, but they are not such a shallow, flighty bunch as the republicans would like everyone to believe.
Hillary supporters, supported her because of her uniqueness and her vision, not because of her child bearing hips.

The greatest VP pick in history was when Roosevelt threw Henry Wallace his VP from 1940-1944 under the bus and picked Harry Truman in 44 the year before he died. Can't even imagine the damage a true socialist like Wallace would have done.

Other great VP picks were Teddy Roosevelt by McKinley in 97' & the Republicans picking Coolidge in 21'.
Sarah Palin is a truely wildcard pick, she could be one of the best! -

One thing I'm certain of; of all the wild card picks for VP in my lifetime Sarah Palin made by far the best entrance to the stage. She was completely at ease in this big environment.
Reply
Compare her to McGovern's pick of the Missouri senator in 72' who he thru under the bus within a week or the Kennedy brother-in-law who took his place. Dan Quayle in his first introduction to the big scene was absolutely an embarraing figure stunned in the spotlight and Ferraro wasn't much better. All these wild card picks showed they didn't belong,
Sarah Palin on first impression showed she does! -

In a way, I feel sad for McCain. He should have had the presidential nomination in 2000. But for the likes of Karl Rover and Company he didn't. Remember them saying that "He gets mad.." and his adopted daughter was his "love child." They drug him through the mud. And now you have the like of Rove trying to help him. Like Rove cares.
Reply
As for picking this unknown, and a women, it's a sad last ditch effort.
After 8 years of Bush and company, does he really think that people are going to support a Republican candidate for President?
The American people have had enough and are going to show it with their vote. They did in 2006 and they'll do it in 2008.-

This an act of desperation on part of McCain camp and the GOP. These losers looked high and low to find an idiot that would appeal to the pro-life evangelical base of the party. Again, the GOP is willing to lose the election by standing this idiotic stance on the issue of choice. As a Republican, I can say this is reason I'm leaving the party. Abortion, who gives a damn. Actually, the evangelical pro-life GOP base is as shocked as anyone. Few if any saw this coming. And that's a plus because now Dobson, et al, can't claim her as their own (and I certainly hope they are wise enough not to try). She is an unknown, cultivated on the periphery, a gentle giant with substantive courage that matches her convictions. As a hockey player, she know how to take a body check. As a coach, she relishes being underestimated by her opponents as so many libs in here seem to do.
Reply
As governor, she vetoed a bill that would have prohibited benefits for live-in partners of state workers...a nice counterbalance to her sanctity of marriage position.
Go ahead, libs. You can love her, you can hate her. Attack her, ignore her...you choose. But in the end, you will lay down your king and walk away.-

Wow, that is poetic; I am suprised, Georgia!
It's may be meaningless, but it is definitely poetry.
Your enthusiasm for Palin seems to be centered on her personality; that she is a baracuda mom, a gentle giant (?), a hockey player with a baby.
These give an impression of someone very tough but soft.
In real life that would be hard.
But not if it's just social-conservative toughness.
Denying benefits to the gays that work for you isn't an act of strength; its weakness.
Supporting a war you don't fight isn't patriotic and it requires nothing from you but a flag pin. Standing up to the oil companies would have been tough, - but she didn't. Denoucing Ted Stevens as a crook would have been tough, - but she didn't.
We libs aren't going to love her or hate her, I think.
November is almost here
In a year, her name will be in trivia contests with 'who was Al Gore's vp choice'?
Social Conservatives have inflicted upon us some of the worst leaders this country has ever seen, to our present regret. Palin is one more loser.
WE aren't walking away, Georgia.
We are showing the Bushes, Roves, and Palins the door.

Hudkabee said that Palin was a great choice. As governor, she's had to make dozens of decisions and live or die--politically--by those decision. That's what makes the experience issue, to the extent the Obama camp continues to harp on it, relevant. Saracuda has had to make rapid fire decisions that Obama has never had to do.

great thought about the polar bears. someday i would love to drive up to alaska or to some chunk of ice somewhere and look at one--oh but i forgot i cannot afford to fill my tank with gas. but maybe you will come up with some "sound science" to help me afford a tank of gas or whatever you plan to come up with. meanwhile i will thinking about your polar bear. i bet your bear doesn't give a hoot about allowing us to drill a well somewhere near his home. he probably would even welcome it just like your crazy caribou[sic] welcomed the alaska pipeline since the flowing oil provided them with warmth.

McCain, the old soldier, is playing this race like a military campaign, winning one battle at a time. Obama, the empty suit Chicago machine candidate, is looking at it like a pageant en route to a coronation.
Reply
Obama with the entire country riveting on his speech to the masses, should have come out of the convention with at least a 15 point bounce. But McCain, in keeping the lid tight on his surprising v-p choice, pounced within hours.
The result, the first poll out after both events, Zogby, shows McCain leading 47-45.
That's all he had to do was break even at this stage and the pressure is all on Obama. Oh yes, Sara is the real deal. Foreign policy experience? She just negotiated a huge natural gas deal with the Canadians, which is more than Obama and Biden combined have ever done. -

Totally for Sara Palin. Would not have participated in this election until now, because for some reason this country has chosen 3 members of the senate to be the chosen few to lead this country. There is the problem. The house of Representatives does their job, but the senate is always in stalemate--total partisan voting. So, I was thrilled they have chosen a women who leads a real life in the US. She and her husband are union members., she is a mom with real concerns, paying bills, education, infrastructure and healthcare. She is for America and not in the pockets and owing the rest of the world. Take another look. One negative---foreign policy---But what was Reagan's, Clinton's, Bush's and Obama's vast foreign policy expertise. ? Nada! She is outside the loop and though I am pro-choice---Not an issue to run a campaign on--we much more to worry about than that---Roe Vs. Wade will never be overturned. And for all those pundits inside the Beltway that doubt her---just exactly what has been accomplished for so many years by the gentlemen who have held office?

WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.
"Senator McCain's choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.
"Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP, has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska's coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.
"This is Senator McCain's first significant choice in building his executive team and it's a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain's commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil." -

On MSNBC this evening Andrea Mitchell reported on how minimal John McCain's interactions with his choice for vice president, Sarah Palin , have been. Politico is also reporting that McCain on Friday announced a running mate whom he met only six months ago and with whom he spoke just once on the phone about the position.
