Palin Myths Dispelled »
Posted By GregD 1 year, 2 months ago in NewsI guess someone must have finally told Gov. Sarah Palin just what it is that the vice president does. (Side Note: Apparently they do not teach civics at Wasilla High School or the University of Idaho.) I’m assuming she already knew the basics: If McCain dies, she’s in charge.
The Anchorage area blog goes on to debunk myths on Palin's political ideology, her beauty pageant status, her experience, intelligence, and whether or not you can find naked pictures of her on the internet (Note: you can't). Read on to the bottom of the full story, where the quote of the day on the proposed veep comes in via Twitter, the microblogging platform.

John McCain's selection of Governor Palin to be his Veep smacks of tokenism and is very patronizing to women. There are other more qualified Republican women that he could have selected:
Reply
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (TX)
Senator Elizabeth Dole (NC)
Senator Olympia Snowe (ME)
In fact, any of the women congressional staffers in Washington are more qualified than Governor Palin.
Has John McCain ever visited Alaska? I think not, or I think he is counting on the fact that most Americans haven't visited Alaska. Outside of Anchorage and the other major cities, it is like a third world country. For example, In many towns, if someone gets sick, they have to wait for a doctor to make his/her weekly visit.
Do we want a vice president that is a heartbeat away from being president with no crisis management skills. We just had eight years of this. As a conservative, I am concerned about the loss of America's prestige on the world stage and our out of control deficit.
John McCain's selection of Governor Palin is reminiscent of President Bush's selection of Harriet Miers to replace Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. It shows that Bush and McCain both lack judgment. Bush's judgment got us into Iraq, but at least his temper didn't get us into World War III. I hate to call McCain out on this, but his temper could have us all ducking for cover because he has no diplomatic skills. Also, he may be a war hero, but because of his judgment, he got caught.
It may be painful, but I will take my chances with Obama-Biden and perhaps, recapture the White House in four years because McCain-Palin is a train wreck waiting to happen. -

Have you seen this video? It seems like Governor Palin may have her own Desperate Housewife episode going on:

I liked this one from the feed at the bottom:
“Overheard: Rush Limbaugh summed up Sarah Palin this way: ‘Guns, Babies, Jesus.’ That about sums it up.”

You heard second hand and out of context...his show is full of tongue in cheek humor....

Here's the BIG myth debunked FTA, "She’s not a substitute for Hillary Clinton. In fact, apart from the biological similarities and a penchant for unfortunate hairdressing decisions, there’s not much they have in common." Priceless...

Well, as a resident of Illinois, I have heard of Obama, one of our senators - and know I would NEVER vote for him for anything .... especially president. He has done nothing of substance while elected in our state, but has taken the most liberal of stands on every issue including infanticide.... yes - that's correct. He actually supports the position that babies born alive but with deformities do not have the right to be given basics of life. These babies have been allowed to die without support. Sounds far-fetched, I know - but true none the less. Also, he has some close and very alarming ties with corruption (Tony Rezko) and even 1960s domestic terrorists (Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dorhn) part of the Weather Underground group, who - btw- by their own words, do not regret their activities of that day, but wish they could have done more! He has made a few futile attempts to distance himself from these names now - but that's just a matter of trying to rewrite history.
Reply
To sum it up, Obama supports and stands for the most unAmerican values and has a long history of deception and changing like the wind. He has no international experience and quite frankly very little domestic experience either.
McCain wasn't my first choice for a republican nominee .... but next to Obama - no contest - he has my vote! Also, I think he picked a bold and interesting choice in Sara Palin. She shows more backbone (already, with limited information) than Obama - who has changed his mind continually.
That's my take on it - being an Illinosian! -

Bill Maher actually told what a VP does in a Republican Administration:
Reply
1. Start Wars
2. Out the identity of any covert CIA operative who the VP does not like
3. Cozy up and defend the oil lobby and industry
4. Torture any prisoner who does not sing VP tunes
5. BIG ONE. Shoot people in the face and claim it an accident.-

Funny how Maher's fair haired boy Bubba Clinton used the military more than any president since FDR including to turn tail and run from al quaeda when we fought them in one of their own strongholds. And why didn't he use Gore to illustrate what a democrat VP does....pretty much nothing.

Bill Maher and Michael Moore have allot in common, they are both two big mouthed, negative spewing jerks. Who cares about what Bill Maher says and further big butt Moore does nothing but stir the Dems up by using scare tactics. What did he do with the money he made from Fahrenheit? Bet he didn't take any initiatives to better health care. What about Maher. Big mouth do nothing, Let me suggest that they both read Hayek's " The Road to Serfdom" and then speak to us about their socialism etc... They both need to go away!

You guys forgot the most important myth: Word is (and I'm still trying to verify it), she once chewed gum while in class!!! (GASP!!!). I love going to liberal blogs to see how TERRIFIED (the libs have gone from scared, very very scared, to TERRIFIED) those who worship Obamamessiah have become since McCain named Sarah Palin as his VP choice. She's a class act that has energized the republican party, more importantly the conservative faction of the party. She's pro life; a woman that doesn't talk the talk, but "walks the walk" by carrying and giving birth to a darling baby that has Downs Syndrome. She's respected by many, but more important HATED by the liberals. She'll make a fine VP, and many many women voters who once mistakenly voted democrat, will help put her there.

She may have a darling baby with Downs Syndrome but according to a story yesterday on Propeller, the baby may actually be her grandson rather than her son. The baby is actually her daughter's who by coincidence was out of school at that time for 8 months with Mononucleosis. Even if the baby is hers, Palin made the terrible decision after her water broke to give a speech in Texas and then travel 8 hours back to Alaska to have her doctor deliver the baby. May be she realized a Texas doctor delivered George W Bush, and she didn't want the same to happen to her baby,

Please don't say Liberals hate Sarah Palin. I'm a liberal who likes her (but isn't going to vote for McCain). She's not well known enough to be hated by hardly anyone...I don't want her to be caught in that polarized, Partisan, hatefulness trap that has dogged Hillary all her public life. Sarah is impressive and admirable, and plenty of Liberals think so. (and also -- why is Liberal such a bad word? they gave us Abolition, the New Deal, the vote for women, Social Security, Medicare and are trying to make the world a better place, as flawed and misled as they as well as Conservatives and Centrists sometimes are!)

You are right on the money! And let's not forget Hillary Clinton stayed with a man that openly cheated on her. Self esteem issues perhaps or no scrupples. And remember it was rumored that she was a lesbian. SO, if she was the Dems great hope Palin is a god send to woman and to the Republican party.

Her husband (Todd), in conjunction with his wife Gov. Sarah Palin also used her office to fire John Bitney AND their brother-in-law (former Alaska State Trooper) Mike Wooten. Gov. Sarah Palin is involved in a legislative ethics investigation because she fired Walter Monegan, when he wouldn't fire Mike Wooten. In Alaska they are saying that Todd is the shadow governor.

The single biggest disaster of the Bush Cheney era, was the demise of intelligence and competence in favor of ideology.
Reply
In his desire to appease the far right on the right to life and other social issues, McCain has chosen the same path, ideology over intelligence and competence. He has chosen to potentially sacrifice all of our lives for the "right to life".
John McCain claims to be a maverick. Not much of a maverick when he just totally caved in to the far right.
Sarah Palin claims to be a reformer. It's not very difficult to be a reformer in the most corrupt state in the nation. How impressive to run against the Bridge to Nowhere.
Its 3am, the phone rings, John McCain is 74 years old and in intensive care. Thankfully we have Sarah Palin to answer the phone. The country and the military can rest easy. We are very proud of the judgment of John McCain. -

I give McCain a lot of credit for picking a Washington outsider for VP. Just what the country needs. After listening to Obama for 16 months talk about change, he picks Biden, a Senator for 36 years. He obviously needed someone with experience, since Obama has none, and what better way then to picks a flip-flopping politician like Biden who actually got 8000 votes in the primary. Even the Dems weren't crazy about that pick if you look at the polls. And when Obama says he is pulling the troops out of Iraq in 16 months, no matter what his commanders on the ground say, I get very scared. It stinks of Bush and that, "I know better than everyone" attitude.

As an Alaskan, I have some deep seated and front seat observations of Sarah Palin. Its reminiscent of a front row seat in a horror film. But that aside. Why wouldnt Mike Huckabee have been an original choice? John McCain is a very nice man, and an American hero. But the truth is, he is old and frail. Unlike the VP choices of the past, his has a very real chance of becoming president. Sarah Palin is both a disaster as our Govenor, ethics violations that shocked even us. And a poorly educated woman who holds personal grudges and acts upon them. Further we have never had a deficit, we have Billions, because of our oil. In our beautiful state, the only time one of our town has ever been left in the red, was poor little Wasilla due to her. Please urge John McCain to reconsider Mr. Huckabee or Mr. Romney, candidates that come scandal free and can lead if the worst happens.

Amazing how some want to know every single little detail about a potential VP, but don't give a rip to find out about a potential PREZ?!?!? What does anyone really know that is substantive about Obama? The media is carrying him without holding him accountable for ANYTHING!

Do you *bother* to read anything about him? Check out Obama's wikipedia page, as well as Biden's page, compared to Palin's - and I don't just mean the summary at the top - Anyone who reads Obama's page all the way through (and verifies - always verify), and still thinks he's got no creds to be President is either uneducated or has intentional blinders. When Lindsey Graham yesterday told George Stephanopoulos that McCain chose his pick for VP because she is meant to be essentially a representation of how he's going to run the country, I had to think, "is THAT what a VP does? Act as a symbol?" I was under the apparently mistaken impression that the VP is a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. McCain has sacrificed our safety and well-being for political purposes, and has shown shockingly impulsive and inchoate judgment in the process. I'm a middle-aged woman, and I respect Hillary Clinton tremendously, but ladies, don't allow yourselves to be suckered by this man who is enough of a misogynist to make cruel sexist jokes about women (google his joke about Janet Reno, and Hillary and Chelsea Clinton) and to blithely assume that Palin's gender is all it takes to replace Hillary in our hearts and minds. Because gender is all Palin and Hillary Clinton have in common. It's an insult to all women. And if you love this country and the freedoms it provides, if you are tired of being lied to(check out http://doubletalkexpress.wordpress.com), be careful about falling onto the gender bandwagon. McCain/Palin won't help the causes of women, won't change the policies of the last 8 years (even McCain has said, as recently as June of this year, that no one has supported Bush's policies more than he), won't put more money back in your pockets, won't get you the health care coverage you need, and will only further damage our standing in the world (something we can ill afford at this point). People, please: think.

You're the sickness that may take this country down! You're simply going to substitute one skirt for another when Palin stands for everything Hillary loathes? You must be the very knee jerk feminist (I'm seriously feminist but not knee jerk) incapable of thinking that McCain and Co. were hoping for. Look at the woman and what she stands for (overthrow Roe V Wade, no birth coltrol through health plans, AK47s in the inner cities, creationism in public schools, etc) and her experience (no passport until 2007) before you jump to vote for her.

Well we have had decades or centuries of old political "no hows" and the job is not getting done. In fact the lot of them should be tried for treason against the citizens. Palin brings a new and refreshing change. You want change, then you have to get rid of the slime in DC now; both dems and repubs. At least McCain has the foresight and guts to start the process.

Boater, McCain IS part of the problem in Washington. Picking a running mate who has the "judgment" to give a speech in Texas afrer her water breaks, then takes an eight or nine hour flight back to Alaska and drives an hour to a tiny outback hospital to deliver a premature, special needs baby who might be born with heart problems isn't the kind of "change" we need.

You want a woman who takes a huge risk like that answering the phone at 3 a.m. when Russia marches into Georgia with guns blazing and McCain is in the ICU? What's she going to say? "Okay, I need a fresh manicure and hairdo, I'm going to be on TV a lot today." -

That means to say there is a problem in political system in our country. Even if you put the most intelligent politician on top, the system will not change nd the system is always a problem.. More so, if you put a person like Palin who has a little experience it could only worsen the situation. Therefore, it is necessary to elect a person who has more intelligence, experience and vision. I am sorry to say, McCain do not have vision by merely picking Palin as his VP. This is why many Republicans in our town are not voting at all.

Well, one thing about her is she has actually worked at REAL jobs in the PRIVATE sector. She has also actually run a government, (city & state) efficiently, without benefit of deficit spending, rather than debated methods of governing from on high as a pampered and catered too Senator. Biden has NEVER, in his entire adult life, ever drawn a paycheck from the private sector. Oboma did for less than two years before going to the public trough. McCain has not had a long history in the private sector either. McCain did, however, command men in combat. That’s real up close and personal, and takes more leadership and personal integrity than all the “Public Service” BS jobs.

I'm rather disapointed at this article. Though everyone has a right to there own opinion, it's disgraceful that something like this was posted on the AOL homepage. It's dreadfully biased, and based off of little or no facts. It's simply written by a bunch of scared liberals, who (falsely) accuse the Republican canidates, so people won't realize corrupt/inexpierenced the democrats are. It's sad that many young americans won't search for the truth on their own, and assume this is correct.

I find it truly amazing that all you people want to rip her apart, she is smart, ambitious and I think she will prove that she can deal with it better than the others, especially since no one seems to want to talk about Obama and his ties to the Reverend which personally, scare the crap out of me. He belonged to a prejudice church filled with hatred for "people unlike themselves" for over 15 years, brought his children there over 50 days a year to listen to the hatred, asked the reverend for his feelings on becoming president, consulted with the reverend on his book, chosing sermons from it and naming it with him, he probably consults the reverend when he should eat, drink and have relations.....do we not think that the "reverend who believes farrakan should get some kind of peace prize, will not be sitting his butt in the white house with a grin on his face, giving our president his advice. We are fools that we cannot come up with something better than this and be sure that if it was a white guy who had relations with a radical like reverend white, he would not be on the ticket today.....shame on america for not demanding more...remember 911, remember those men who flew planes into buildings kiling over 3000 people, lived here , assimilated here, had families, lives, jobs and NO ONE KNEW UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE....

You obviously are old, my initial thoughts were the same, but i chose to google her and found out that her husband is the stay at home dad, he does the chores, the finances, the school stuff.....I am so impressed that finallly women have reached a level that they don't have to sacrifice their ambitions (like the 70's and ealier) or sacrifice their families (like the 80s and 90s) but they have learned to work with their partners in bringing up responsible well taken care of children. Jackie Kennedy went into the white house with a 4 year old and a 1 year old and no one questioned that John wouldn't be able to spend any time with them...I am confident after reading about her husband, that they will make it work and how wonderful for those kids, mom has a career, dad had a career and they have two parents who work together to insure their well being and safety. YOu lose!

Well, quite frankly, all of the right wing Christian republicans scare the crap out of me. Many of them spout "God's love" but also hate those who aren't just like them, homosexuals, atheist, people of other religions and cultures. In the words of Ghandi, " I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians, they are nothing like your Christ." So very true.

The Republican conservative women are so thrilled to be able to vote for a woman, they don't care what lack of experience she has! I keep saying that there were other more qualified women he could have chose, but they must have been more threatening to him. He wanted a "yes man" who would soothe his ego, a typical old-school role for women. I am concerned about her lack of foreign policy experience, but as much over her severe conservative attitudes on birth control. I understand she not only doesn't believe in a woman's right to choose in cases of rape, incest or mother's health but also doesn't even believe in birth control. This policy effectively increases poverty in most populations around the world, as we already lose more than all casualties in WWII to death from the effects of poverty each year. More than half of these are children who are sold into prostitution or captive as child soldiers. Millions of children are abandoned on the street and thousands will die of preventable diseases if their parents just had the money or CHOICE of birth control. To hold Gov. Palin's view is more INJUST than the Prochoice view, because you are basically condemning women and children to poverty and death at a younger age.

I am pro choice only because as of now there is not a solution that keeps everyone safe, but visit an abortion clinic on a saturday morning in a middle class neighborhood, these girls have the means, smarts and support to make sure that they do not get pregnant, but they still do, it is a disgrace and as parents, lawmakers and teachers we have not addressed this well because we have given them "carte blanch" on the quick fix......we think of abortion as a very serious answer, but a 13 or 16 year old kid thinks only for the moment and after a while it is an absolute shame we have not invested more time, money and education in making sure these kids do not get pregnant. Abortion is a horrible answer to something that is usually considered a miracle....

Sarah Palin is the CHANGE we all need and want. I am VERY impresed by her resume in her 44 yrs especially compared to OBAMAs lack of resume. Obama has been telling us WE NEED CHANGE then he picks a 35 yr DC insider??? thats NO CHANGE. Obama is loaded up with Carter/Clinton aides - thats NO CHANGE. Obama refused to chose a woman to be VP even tho there are many MORE qualified than BIden - thats NO CHANGE. McCain/Palin will bring us CHANGE and NEW IDEAS, LEaDERSHIP and VIEWS which we need.
