John McCain's selection of Governor Palin to be his Veep smacks of tokenism and is very patronizing to women. There are other more qualified Republican women that he could have selected:
Reply
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (TX)
Senator Elizabeth Dole (NC)
Senator Olympia Snowe (ME)
In fact, any of the women congressional staffers in Washington are more qualified than Governor Palin.
Has John McCain ever visited Alaska? I think not, or I think he is counting on the fact that most Americans haven't visited Alaska. Outside of Anchorage and the other major cities, it is like a third world country. For example, In many towns, if someone gets sick, they have to wait for a doctor to make his/her weekly visit.
Do we want a vice president that is a heartbeat away from being president with no crisis management skills. We just had eight years of this. As a conservative, I am concerned about the loss of America's prestige on the world stage and our out of control deficit.
John McCain's selection of Governor Palin is reminiscent of President Bush's selection of Harriet Miers to replace Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. It shows that Bush and McCain both lack judgment. Bush's judgment got us into Iraq, but at least his temper didn't get us into World War III. I hate to call McCain out on this, but his temper could have us all ducking for cover because he has no diplomatic skills. Also, he may be a war hero, but because of his judgment, he got caught.
It may be painful, but I will take my chances with Obama-Biden and perhaps, recapture the White House in four years because McCain-Palin is a train wreck waiting to happen.-

What is more McCain seems to be showing early signs of Alzheimer's. He is forgetting things, repeating himself increasingly. He shows lack of judgment in not consulting his own team in the VP selection process. He has had emotional outbursts of agitation and frustration when people cross him or disagree with him. I think the public has the right to insist on medical screening for Alzheimer's, before he is seriously considered for President of these United States.

I agree with you about taking the heat. I am a woman and I don't feel sorry for whatever comes her way. If you are trying to take on a job that requires strength then you should be able to handle what comes at you. Being President of the United States isn't a piece of cake. We have other countries out there that disregards women and will do whatever it takes. I know women want to make history but at what cost? We already have women serving in the military fighting wars. Isn't that enough? Do you think that when a women is menopausing or its that time of the month, countries stop and let us get over it?(NO they won't). Now watch when they start debating and attacking Palin then they will say that isn't fair but is fair when you are going for VP? Women you need stop and think about it. That is why some men don't want us there because we cry alot. A lot of times, women think with there hearts and not their minds and sometimes that get us in trouble. A woman has to be somewhat cold hearted to work in a field that is monoplized by men...

This is the perfect example of what I was saying .I cant believe this is a woman .this is some one that wants Obama in office so much that they will say anthing to get your vote .If this was true then why are there women in the Senators seats in washington .If Sarah is not qualitified then neither is the other women ,so we need to vote them out to or at least vote them out during their monthly .And people wanted Hillary to be President was she to take off during her monthly ?No she was to carry on her job .so why a different standers for VP ?Oh she is a republican and that makes a big difference .Its not that she cant do the job its women dont want her .Or men dont want her .which is it ?

I that is the case than Obama is showing stronger signs. McCain has so far been able to answer unscripted questions better than Obama who stammers around and now refuses to answer questions with McCain in townforums.....McCains mothers is 93 and still sound of mind and able to get around on her own. She was pictured arriving at the convention unassisted on the AOL convention coverage.

My mother had Alzheimer's, so I know all the signs. There is no medical testing that can positively determine if a person has the disease. The only test that can be done is by autopsy. A psychological test can be administered to suggest Alzheimer's, but a fully conclusive assessment cannot be established prior to death.

You really must be insane yourself. If you think that the Alaskans having to wait a week or longer for a doctor is bad - you can expect a month or 2 or more with any national healhcare system. Just as any Canadian about the national healhcare system and they will tell you, get used to getting in LINE!

Your ignorance is showing! My Belgian relatives see doctors the next day (and they make house calls if needed) and pay about 10% what we do for drugs. The quality of their health care is extraordinary. And, if you count heading a village and the biggest welfare state in the country serious executive experience, I have a bridge to sell to you.

Really? You gotta be kidding! When was the last time that you went to any doctor's office and got in at the appointed time? That's why they call them "waiting rooms". So we are already standing in line, the difference is that only some of us can afford to be there in the first place. Hopefully several think will take place if health care get nationalized. Med school will be covered for those wishing to become doctors. We will learn from the mistakes of other systems. and best of all, it will put a lot of shyster lawyers out of business.
Reply
As for the "executive experience" I know of a local factory manager with experience equivalent to Palin's in both length of term and scope of population, should that qualify her for the VP position of this country?
Given that argument, I think we should tap the heads of GM or Ford for the VP position. It's no less silly an argument. -

Try getting an appointment at the VA which is government run you are lucky to get a doctored ordered MRI in less than 6 months. If you go in to the walk in clinic or ER you might as well bring a good book and snacks because you will be their all freakin day......I don't want Universal Health Care in any way shape or form. Our health care system got worse when the government interfered in it several years ago,.,,,,,More regulation does not improve anything it just bogs it down.

Around 20 years ago I had a horrible bellyache. I went to my private doctor. He said i had an acute appendicitis. His partner gave second opinion. It was "why isn't this man in the OR". I then went to the county hospital (JMH), doctors note in hand. I then not only had to wait 6 hour to be seen by an intern. I also had to steal a gurney because I couldn't sit nor stand. another 16 hours passed until I could get a room. two hours my appendix burst (thats 24 hours after being admitted) only then did I get EMERGENCY medical care.

Your god bless our current medical system. Lets keep it as dysfunctional as possible. that way more poor and middle class people will die needlessly. I am PROUD to pay my fair share of our taxes. I just wish they were utilized better, much better.

You've nailed it. I've lost total respect for McCain. With so many excellent female Republican possibilities, no to mention male ones, he comes up with Palin? This a knee-jerk solution from McCain and we've already had 8 years of this. McCain is no longer interested in doing what's right for America; he just wants to win.

With almost a 90% approval rating from the State of Alaska, I think Palin was an excellent choice! Try to find another candidate with that high of a rating! Since most of us do not know much about her, I find it unfair to judge her until we learn more. I also find it refreshing to have someone not bought and paid for in the Washington circles!!

Being barefoot and pregnant in the back woods is not a qualification for VP.
................................................
Neither is being a junior senator for less than 2 yrs with NO executive experience and ties to the worst of Chicago.
Palin has far more qualification, 3 terms as Mayor, the Gas and Oil ethics Committee and beat the encumbent Gov, in the Primary and 2 yr as Gov. during that short time she got Alaska back on track and her approval ratings have been 90%....The congressional approval rating has been running 9%.....McCain did the right thing in selecting Gov Palin.....he did so with NO expectations of getting the Hillary supporters... -

qgoddess, how can you be so stupid. What difference does it make if McCain has ever visited Alaska? Has Biden visited Illinois? Has Osama visited Delaware? You talk about "crisis management skills". What crisis has Osama managed besides covering up his total lack of any experience? Take your chances with Osama-Biden, you'll live to regret it, unless you're a closet marxist. While you're at it, learn how government functions, only Congress can declare war.

Yes, I know only Congress can declare war, but a president can put so much fear into "elected" officials that they will go along to keep their seats. Also, a president doesn't need an okay from Congress to act aggressively, i.e., remember the U.S. attack on the tiny island of Grenada.

goddess...congress also sees all of the same intelligence information the President sees and they are as much to blame if not more than Bush for the war....and for the ecconomic issues they are far more responsible since they refuse to put through a comprehensive energy bill that isn't full of pork and earmarks, McCain called for a suspension of earmarks and the Dems refused to pass that. Pelosi turned off the lights and microphones when the Republicans asked to stay until an energy bill had been passed....so who is ruining our ecconomy? It sure isn't Bush, he can't write any bills and the Dems sure aren't being cooperative for the good of the country.

Do you mean the hand picked intelligence our president gave to congress 7 years ago? since McCain who uses ear marks calls for the suspension of them, I can just as believably call for the outlawing of sex(marital, pre-marital, same, and solo). who would believe i really meant this? I hope no one would. then again my statement is just as believable as McCains.

His name is Obama, he an American not a Middle Easterner. He is not a part of Osama Bin Laden's network. It seems that people don't have enough intelligence to disagree without name calling. If anybody is a Marxist, it's Bush. He's the one who wouldn't listen to his advisors when they cautioned him not to go into Iraq. He wouldn't listen when he was told that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. When you speak of experience: What experience did Bush have other than the unique distinction of being the worst governor that Texas has ever had or expect to have? Don't vote for Obama. But don't try to tell others who to vote for. I'll never allow anyone to tell he how to vote. Voting is a personal as sex. It's nobody's business who you do, or do not vote for.

It is sad to read how uneducated people or how they lack good old mother wits. For 1 - his name is Obama not Osama. 2 - McCain's choice is just for getting women voters and the evangelicas. People need to read more and look at both sides not just one side. He is using this woman as men always do especially when they are weak and he knows it. I admit she is very pretty and and very bright but she is no Hillary Clinton, which she trieds to portray. I would have loved to see the Obama/Clinton ticket but it didn't work that way. McCain is tricking people and especially the women voters. Wake up America and stop taking Wooden Nickles.

Read up on Alaska. That state has the highest welfare rate per person than any other state in the union. This is a total freebie state. Besides, she's under investigation for trying to fire her ex brother n law because he divorced her sister. Talk about abuse of power. She's not objective enough to be president. Wait! We went to war because Saddam supposedly tried to kill daddy bush didn't we? She'll be as objective as Bush would. I look forward to having a fool like that as president in the event that McCain falls dead. She'd have us in a war with Iran right away.

You had better do more research on the brother-in-law investigation, because your comments are incorrect. I believe she fired a Commissioner for incompetence, and the Commissioner filed a suit against her claiming she fired him because he refused to fire the law enforcement officer (her ex-brother-in-law) that had abused her sister and threatened her. Focus on the word INVESTIGATION!! Would you like to be found guilty by your peers and the public due to an ongoing investigation? Have you not heard the phrase "innocent until proven guilty"? It is a standard investigation and I feel certain all allegations will be proved false. Perhaps I see the glass half full, while you see it as half empty......

Palin's "executive experience" is based solely on the the State she served. The diminutive Alaska with a population of less than 9,000 which is smaller than the small town in California. It is so small that to manage it is like managing a small office with a few workers so easy to handle that even a dumb blonde can excel to manage. Alaskan government will pay you just to live in the State. Alaska is a lot younger State than McCain. McCain's decision says more about him. McCain graduated at the bottom of Military Academy not bec he is lazy or dumb but because he is stubborn. He chose his VP without consulting his team and Party and therefore, putting our nation in danger.

Actually, a person gets MORE experience governing a city and state. They are active in making decisions on a daily basis. While our Senators and Congressmen can sleep during sessions, or completely avoid showing up, a mayor and governor does not have that luxury. Research the daily schedule of a governor (or even a mayor!!) and then compare it to the LAZY schedule the majority of our elected officials in Washington D.C. adhere to!! (Oops, you will probably have to wait until they are all back from their 5 week vacation!)

Sarah had a CHOICE... She chose to keep her baby... that makes her a better woman in my books than the tons of women that abort young babies with Down syndrome just becausse their afraid of the unknown.
Reply
It makes me sick to my stomach to think of all the beautiful little babies that aren't given the chance just because they have Down syndrome. But then again, I am a mother of a beautiful baby girl with DS.
However, I am appalled that she joined John McCain's ticket... I know someone needed to show her what the her repsonsibilities were as VP.. When they explained that to her her, maybe they failed to mention McCain's stance on the issues of disablities and education. Maybe she doesn't realize that if McCain gets his way, her beautiful son won't get any of the educational services that he deserves to reach his full potential. McCain doesn't see any need to allow children with disablities to be given what they need to reach their potential and that it falls on the responsiblity of the parents to provide whatever extra is needed. Maybe Sarah doesn't undrstand she won't be able to focus on being the VP because she will have to go and get a degree in Speech therapy and special education needs in order to teach her son.

Like I stated to someone else, just becasue someone has the "right" to choose, that doesn't mean they run out and have an abortion. There is this serious misunderstanding that women who support the right to choose are ABORTION SUPPORTERS.
Reply
The problem with McCain's policy is, that it is Republican... She doesn't need to change the issue, she needs to change her party affiliation.
It's funny to me the Republican belief against abortion, because you certainly don't stand behind taking care of the needs or rights of any babies that aren't perfect. i.e. healthcare for people that aren't rich, services for disabled, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!! -until of course their veterans, then just push them and their wheelchairs under the carpet..... I mean it is such a hypocrytical thing.... ohh save the babies, no abortion.... but they better not grow up to gay, nonchristian, democrat, or anything I don't believe in, cause then we'll have to hate them anyway!-

I voted for Kay Baily Hutchinson and I am much happier with the selection of Gov. Palin. Sen Hutchinson has repeadily said she wants out of Washington and would not except the nomination if asked. McCain met Gov Palin at an Gov Conferance and has been watching her, She was not selected because she is a woman but because she has executive experience and had was able to do what he and other Congress members could not do and that is stop the Bridge to Nowhere project. She is tough of wastefull spending on taxpayer money and nominating another Senator would just prove that like Obama it would just be more of the same ol Politics. The Congress has a 9% approval rating. Gov Palin has what it takes to run the country should the need arise and to not yield to wastefull spending of hard earned tax payer money. I can't wait to see the vp debates and cast my vote for McCain/Palin. McCain has shown that he is serious about making change unlike Obama.

It might not occur to some that it is much easier to be able to accept a Downs child with oceans of support and money and on top of that the oil dividend the child and also the six others enjoy on an annual basis? $1,600 each I believe? A much more tricky decision for a poor single mother of four, recently abandoned in New Orleans?

You apparently do not have much parenting experience if you honestly believe $1600 per child per year, especially a special needs child, will cover many expenses. The ability to accept a child, whether a special needs child or not, comes from the heart....not the pocketbook. A poor, single mother of four recently abandoned in New Orleans should either educate herself as to better birth control methods or take full responsibility for her lack thereof.
