This is not fascism?
Reply
Did anyone notice how every link on the "Googles" on the "internets" to Palin were down? Even Crooks and Liars? they seem to mostly be back up having been scrubbed of things like Ted Stevens endorsements and such. If this is not a form of fascism what is?-

there are two sides to every story. Was this an attempt at provocation?

CNN Earlier Monday, a group of self-described anarchists threw park benches into streets and smashed windows, police said.
"I think they did a disservice to those that came here to protest," he said.
Besides damaging private property, the group also smashed in the windows of five squad cars. iReport.com: Protesters swarmed at RNC
by NYShooter on Mon Sep 01, 2008 at 10:53:46 PM EST
are any indication of the mindset of the protesters, its not hard to understand why the police were extra nervous. I
t seems increased reports of violence and damage were streaming in, and arrests escalating. A band of several hundred more vocal protesters broke off, apparently to confuse and outflank the police, which further raised the temperature at the scene.
From the tape, it seems Amy was told she had to use the sidewalk, but when she persisted in going across the promenade (or whatever) the cop asked her again to go to the sidewalk. She may, or should have, known today wasn't a day to test the police resolve.
Again, if the cops violated any rules or laws...well, that's what the courts are for.I-

The anarchists were not the press. Essentially law reenforcement was hitting everyone with a borad stick. When you have an official press pass to the RNC event, you have security clearance and full access. The Police were not in the mood to follow the rules and just bashed everyone who objected to them.

Law and Order party, eh? Reciprocation for Operation Chaos? Wait until the lawsuits are filed. Happened with the WTO Battle in Seattle. Many cops were fired as a result.-

I don't understand how arresting someone for asking a question keeps the peace. Not to mention that journalists have even more of a right to ask questions without fear of arrest, then us, regular folk.
Reply
As a matter of fact, it seems more like a characteristic of a totalitarian or police state. Even in Soviet Union that kind of policy has for the most part died with Stalin.-

The Press is there to do there job, just like a carpenter building a house. They carry a bunch of expensive stuff with them and usually where there is news there are cops.
Reply
They work together.
This is nuts.
Of course the front person would stand up for her co-workers and expect the respect that her hard earned credentials deserve.
She had a badge!
The folks that busted her did not!
Neither did the folks that told her producer to put her face on the ground.
Carpenters do Demolition as well, if they have to. -

I was taking the video at face value. I don't believe the press has more freedom or rights than the average citizen, they are journalists not public servants. If they are given specials passes to allow them access to certain places, thats fine but right or wrong they have to follow orders like everyone else. Perhaps I'm off base here but i don't think so.

This is unbelievable. We have Nazis running the government. It started about 8 years ago. The Bush's are close with the CIA (started in 1953 with the Zapata oil company). He's been trying to legalize domestic spying and provide immunity for corporations that cooperate with the illegal activities.
Reply
We should be outraged that innocent protesters were arrested. I'm sure they used some "homeland security ploy."-

Thanks, Natureboy, that site mentioned another group that is involved in the mess. "The whole homeland security posse" as they called them is also involved in the security of the area. I suspect they have told the mayor to get lost for a week.

You can hear Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar describe their experience in an interview with Thom Hartmann this morning. (Go to site to stream). Nicole was dragged on the pavement until she was bloody, with a foot in her back holding her down while another officer pulled her leg. When Sharif came to her aid, he was knocked down as well, and saw Nicole all bloodied up.

This quote from a cop in LA says it all: "These people need to understand this is America. You wanna protest, you pay a lobbyist, that's the only legal way to express yourself. If you don't you'll get stomped." --LAPD officer

the LA cop quote got to me. obviously LA still isn't teaching their law enforcement officers about the law...the ultimate law, namely the constitution and bill of rights. i know there's something in that great document on freedom of speech and freedom to gather and protest; nothing about hiring lobbyists.

"As I came in and I was speaking to the corrections officers, who did identify themselves—I kept asking every officer to identify themselves—a St. Paul cop behind them kept screaming, “Shut up! You, shut up!” And I asked—I said, “I want to know what your name is or your badge.” “Shut up! Shut up!” he said, I think to the chagrin of the corrections officers. One of the head guys in the jail came over and said,
“He’s not ours. We can’t force him to identify himself. Our policy is that they identify themselves.”
And stayed there for several hours."-

Here are some photos I found of what the mob did - page 2 - police cars:
http://gallery.me.com/dboen#100035
"here's what this group of protesters did: They dragged garbage containers (stone and plastic) into the street, tossed over newspaper dispensers, threw paint, threw road tacks, smashed windows, smashed cop cars, broke pieces of sidewalk, and overturned dumpsters, and bum-rushed cops, all in downtown St. Paul. There were roughly 4-500 of them by my estimation. The cops were absolutely restrained - to me, it seemed like their policy was that unless someone started a fire or assaulted anyone, they wouldn't arrest. "-

"There was a chunk of the giant protest that deliberately set off separately to raise hell, and they were more than tolerated. I don't know if Amy was part of this group or not, but the cops (Feds, officers from other cities in the metro area, and Ramsey County's finest) were absolutely tolerant, professional, restrained and even accommodating with this bunch. I followed this group from lowertown over to Rice Park and back again, so I know what happened. You want photos? That's what happened."

I have done a bit of hanging with press folk.
Reply
Amy may not have that starched over made-up look, which most of the video folks do.
But all those folks recognize her as one of them.
The folks wearing that riot gear acted unprofessionally.
I almost doubt that they where real cops.
A real cop knows he can get away with roughing up a hippy kid.
But usually knows better than screwing with someone with a PRESS PASS.
Real cops notice stuff like that. Their chain of command goes to a politician.
Not a good idea to tick off the Press.-

Does this vest look familiar?
I could be way wrong and barking up the wrong tree, as well as pi$$ing on the wrong Bush.
There are quite a few policemen close to my family. And if this is the vest they are wearing, they would not use it.

The guy in front is a cop. He has a badge, and a ballistic vest on. I think the vests on the guys behind him match the one in the catalog and the one of the guys arresting Amy are wearing.
I think the Velcro patch on left side of the Police insignia, and the shoulder covers are distinctive.
I could be wrong….-

Hi Markman:

I checked the BlackWater gear, it did not seem to match.
I think they are rent-a-cops.
And if that is really the vest they are wearing they must really need the money.
I poked around a bit, looking at pictures, and it seems that vest shows up.-

Real Cops are very good at reading the folks in there space, It is there job and even if they screw up from time to time, they do not like to get there ass reamed for it. They would notice a PRESS PASS.

Old hippies like me, kind of recognize cops.
There was a picture I could not get through of ICE folks in riot gear at the RNC in New York.
It seemed obvious to me that they where neither Policemen or rent-a-cops.
Sorry to have wasted so much space

Stop the insanity! Plenty of radicals arrested at the Democratic convention. The evil government AKA Republicans aren't controlling the police. Some folks think they can do what ever they want with no repercusions whatsoever. When the police say do this, you do it. I protested once in Washington, for no reason one cop i felt was a hardass. I followed his directions to the letter. They had rules and I followed them. Problem is if you listen to Democracy Now you would think this country is on the verge of becoming the Third Reich.

I worked with the guy that owned the warehouse.
The Puppets where not just destroyed, they where murdered and then thrown in a dumpster the city brought on site.
The law used to arrest the folks was mentioned in a "Dirty Harry" movie,by his female partner who became one of the stars of "Cagney and Lacy".
Apparently although it is not illegal to demonstrate, it is to conspire to.
Not a single charge stuck.
75 puppeteers went to jail.

My family happened to be in the area for a family event and watched some of the protests. It was interesting until we started to see young people with their faces covered start throwing rocks and glass at buildings and the cops. They were basically causing damage and nothing else. People around them were holding signs and saying chants about what they were protesting and then these idiots starting getting violent. From what we saw the police were justified in taking action. The police were not interfering with protesters that were just making their point of view. ONly the ones that were there to cause damage and to hurt people. It was really sad! We saw two protesters leaving because they said they were sick of the punks that were giving them a bad name and causing them to not get their message across.

I do not pay to watch TV, so I had to look up Michelle Maulkin.
After reading a tiny bit, I am pretty sure I strongly disagree with some of her opinions.
I watched a video of the event you are speaking of, and it seemed obvious to me that she was not the a$$hole in that encounter.
I plead utter ignorance, but do not think I am the lone lib that would have seen it the same way.
I am sorry but I cannot find a parallel.
It did not seem to me that Michelle was using professional equipment, or carrying credentials, she was severely hassled, but not by someone who's job it is to "Protect and Serve".-

There are quite a few gun owners out there, who do not like the thought of having there rights taken away.
I happen to know quite a few left leaning gun owners.
I went to Quaker schools and I think I should be able to make an anti-war stink now and then.
