I'm certain every self-respecting Democrat knew the year that the Pledge was written, knew it was written by a Socialist (and why wouldn't Dems know that?), and knew that "under God" was added in the 1950s.

Of course they do! Not.
Why am I not surprised at the source nor the submitter nor the comments herein. Gotta have something to throw at Palin, right? -

I'm sorry to hear this, but most people I've ever asked also didn't know--many with advanced education. Most people born after something happens or who were young when a change occurred are not aware of it unless it comes up in some other context.

In a country where 85% of people believe in a supernatural deity, and 65% believe in demons, nothing surprises me.

Hey, she makes him look like a genius and a saint. Maybe that is the intention here.

He cannot stand next to Obama and look at all presidential, but next to Palin well maybe... it`s only been 72 hours and the skeletons are coming out of the Earmark Queen`s closet like an avalanche.

Refusing to grant someone the principle of charity is about as good as admitting that you have no interest in understanding the person's statements and that you are only interested in twisting their words to your own irrational interpretation.

Not to mention, that your comment is both a red herring and an ad hominem tu quoque fallacy. -

Its very sad to see these "liberal pukes" taking on a young lady who sees good in our country.

The Founding Fathers were proud Americans and I am sure they would have instituted a pledge of Allegience to our Country.
I like what John Jay, First Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court said: "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty. . .of our Christian nation (I believe we still are) to select and prefer Christians for their rulers. ."
With that I am proud to be an American to have John McCain as my next President of the United States. Obama is a fake Christian who opposes God's standard of life (prolife) and keeping marriage between one man and one woman.-

smisaimin - you are a disgrace as an American - America is a pluralistic society & to put one faith above another as leaders of this great country is no better than speaking as an Islamic Fundamentalist, whom I am sure you abhor & I abhor you sir.

aceofspades1; You have just spit on what this country stands for. NEVER did the framers of the Constitution,or those who signed it, intend for this to be a 'christian nation.' We were not intended to be a theocracy, bound by your interpretations of 'god' as you would have it. Shame on you. I mean that, literally. Shame on you for not having a CLUE about what our founders fought for.

Gee - Chief Justice Jay sure puts the lie to that oft repeated

oratory about any child in America , if they study and work hard,
can achieve anything - no opportunity denied in America to those
who excell. The content of their character would be as nothing
unless they praised Jesus? It is not the way I was taught - it
is not the way I think it should be. I cannot tell you how much I
disagree with the statements of Mr. Jay.
You like it? Well, IMO it sounds downright un-American! -

A person who sets religion above political aspiration is a closed minded person and must not lead a nation with people having different kinds of faith. John McCain is against helping the poor and in need. He graduated at the bottom of his class in the Military Academy. His mentality reflects on his decision and choosing a VP unknown to many as an example. On the other hand, Obama is brilliant, and is for equality.

Well then... As long as YOU are "sure they would have instituted a pledge" its all good. But, the FACT is, they DID NOT institute ANY sort of pledge. I'm sure you think having the rest of their lives to come up with one has no bearing on the FACT they NEVER did come up with a pledge!

What are they going to teach in Sunday School if Creationism
Reply
is taught in public schools? Isn't that what religious education -
at CHURCH - was designed for? I have so little tolerance for
this movement to merge Christianity with our civil society that
I sometimes cannot relate to the subject at all - and when I can?
I bounce from anger to fear. Fear that well-educated people who
consider themselves patriotic seem ready, willing and able to
destroy such a vital part of our cherished heritage.
What was quoted above from Chief Justice Jay, and too much
of what I hear from our religious AND political leaders insures
a divisive future - NOT Freedom of Religion.

PC, the idiot, can't even get the number right! It was 57 and includes all the territories where the repugs have sweat shops that make things marked with "made in America" and the repugs made sure the min wage doesn't apply there! Saipan, home of forced prostitution and forced abortion... for the repug greed! JC Penney hasn't even agreed out of court with the 25,000 unnamed claiments from the 2002 case - claimants unnamed to avoid retribution!
Reply
REPUGS, the party of absolute greed... all a governor has to do to be a success in Alaska is let big oil do whatever it wants! Look at Ted Stevens and the former corrupt governor Murkowshi ( I beleive i'm close on the name). Not only Ted's indictments, but his telling the big oil CEOs during the Repug Congress they didn't even have to swear to tell the truth - they didn't!

You liberals need to come to grips with a reality. Your Obama is an empty suit. Stands for nothing but getting elected. Votes "Present" instead of taking a stand. Waits for the outcome and then stands up. In other words, he waits for Monday and discusses Sundays game. Has an admitted terrorist, a racist minister and a convicted criminal for allies/friends. This is going to be a very long and hard year for you all. You are grasping at straws, deal with it.

you would not know integrity if it bit you, would ya? If a guy does not know enough about a bill, you would suggest he just vote the party line or just not bother showing up at all like McCain, who has missed the most votes of any Congress person. McMagoo.
> Has an admitted terrorist, a racist minister and a convicted criminal for allies/friends.
This admitted terrorist who was released by the Feds and never hurt a fly? Oh, that `terrorist`? Compare him to any of the PNAC clowns, the lobbyists running McCain`s campaign, or those in the Bush admin.
Hagee? Parsley? which racist minister are you talking about? Convicted criminal for allies/friends? You mean Bush`s buddy Rezko, Abramoff, Keating Five (oh wait that was McCain himself), Cindy McCain ( oh wait, she`s rich so she never got charged with grand theft, forgery, abuse of controlled substances, etc), and so on.
Gimma a break. For every smear attempt you have on Obama, there are multiple legitimate attacks on McCain. I hope you are able to see the truth soon. Our nation needs to get away from the divide and smear politics of Rove and stand united against enemies both foreign and domestic.

Obama is for Americans regardless of who he come across with. Obama is for justice and truth. Obama is brillant vs McCain is not. Now, do you want another George Bush (McCain) run this Country?
