I'm certain every self-respecting Democrat knew the year that the Pledge was written, knew it was written by a Socialist (and why wouldn't Dems know that?), and knew that "under God" was added in the 1950s.

While I cannot declare what any Democrat or other person may know about the Pledge, it is fairly common knowledge the Pledge did not exist in the late 1700s. Most grammer school kids probably know the Pledge did not exist until 100 years later. Certainly ANY person that keeps abreast of the latest news would know "under God" was not in the original Pledge. The whole issue of when "under God" was added and if it violated separation of church and state was addressed just a few years ago by the Supreme Court.
