A lot of Americans will sympathize with the Palin family, and a lot will be in a position to empathize. One lesson of the Clinton era should have been that the public, except for "the vast right-wing conspiracy," is not interested in the personal family, or the personal financial foibles of our candidates or representatives.

I see the Dems going overboard on attacking Palin and her pregnant teenage daughter. They don't look so compassionate just about now and I think that it will come back to bite them on the ass when women go to the polls. Women headed to the polls, this is what the Dems really think about you and the responsibilities of parenthood.

These kinds of things even though very minor in scope can cause damage to a candidate when so many other issues/questions are coming forward. On CNN's front page is a link to this subject as well as one concerning Palin's husband and past DWI charges/arrest.

Some are beginning to ask 'Just how deep and thorough did McCain vet this candidate? I also don't think many Presidential nominees in the past picked a VP choice based only on knowing the individual from just 1 previous meeting.-

I should also point out that the candidates family should be off limits...thus this pregnancy by Palin's daughter and the DWI story hopefully will not be more than a blip by tomorrow. While I may have a problem with Palin's desire for 'Abstinence' only education in schools - her daughter's pregnancy otherwise is none of my business.

Tim and Chuck, i totally agree with both of you, the families should be off limits, and left alone in this. However, conservatives would have a field day with this if it were Barack Obama's daughter. Plus the fact that it's likely that Trig is Bristol's child as well, would mean 2 pregnancies for her in 2 years. Great reason for birth control, because when kids start having sex, they're not going to stop.

That said:: YES Palin has enough baggage of her own without bringing the children and her family into this-

How sad it is for this young woman to be so critically judged on this thread. It makes no difference if her parents are conservatives, liberals, democrats or republicans some things are best left unsaid. She made an error in judgment, a mistake. She isn't the first and will not be the last. Can you image the embarrassment, the hurt of finding our your are pregnant with the entire world knowing or can you fathom the hurt and concern that her parents might feel? The last time I felt outrage like this was when some JERK made horrible remarks about Chelsea Clinton. Children should be off limits. Spouses that do not share the lime light should be as well, but those that campaign, make speeches on behalf of their spouse IMHO put themselves into the firing range for some hard ball politics. Hopefully Bristol Palin will not stop by propeller and read this tripe.

LOL..I agree but he could hardly lose in a situation like this.
Reply
A) He gets to sound compassionate against his opponent
B) He knows he can't control the media (but he still looks good pretending that he can)
C) His family could be targeted worse than they already have been

She`s a corruption buster like I`m a astronaut.
Reply
She`s already under investigation for abuse of power. What moron would choose this person as a running mate anyway? McCain only met her twice on top of not properly vetting her. What a joke!
Do we want a president who plays this flippant with choosing the direction he will take this country?
Pro-life war mongers & hypocrites need not apply.
McCain will need the $10M to try to overcome his choice of VP now that just the early truth is coming out. Biden is going to have a field day with this one. -

Outside of the fact that she was a lousy mayor who messed up her town, got into trouble right after getting elected governor and is currently under investigation, the fact that she wants to turn back the clock on women"s rights 100 years and turn all women into walking talking baby factories should end Mcsame's presidential campaign right now.

Totally off-base opinions about what she she's done as mayor and governor. She's a corruption-buster and the issue with MOneghan/Wooten (your "investigation") will only show that Wooten threatened the life of her father while being a state trooper and that Palin didn't do anything inappropriate.

As for being pro-life, HOORAY!!! What a sad, pathetic nation we are when we anguish over killing hardened killers but don't give a fig about aborting the unborn.
Hey, did you see that McCain has raised $10M since he picked Palin as his running mate?

It would be really mean spirited to attack Bristol for having got pregnant. She had done only what young people have been doing for centuries, and she will need all the love she can get to deal with the consequences.
Her parents, however, are a different matter. Any parent who insists on keeping his/her child ignorant is guilty of child abuse. Apparently, there is no requirement in Alaska to provide sex education in school. Whose fault is that?

Do some use such stories to their benefit? Certainly. Should they? No. It has nothing to do with how someone will administrate unless they let the issue dominate their time and attention.
Reply
It is easy to desire to reach for the eye for an eye mentality in responding to such issues when others seem to use them for ammunition.
I would suggest trying to lead by example. Your own example, not your opponent's.
My opinion does not reflect upon whether I think Palin would or would not be a good administrator. It only deals with the issue at hand and whether it is important concerning the issues this country currently faces. -

Her family is a non-issue here as well as anyone else's family who posts here.
Reply
I judge those who post here by your ideology and statements, not you're family.
Be honest here also and try not to justify you're statements because the "other side" does it because you know as well as anyone here that these attacks come from the "radical fringe" of both sides. So if you want to associate yourself with that, by all means, go right ahead.
I would also like to ask all those who are posting here, did your mother and father actually plan your birth? If they did, good for you but realize you're in the minority.
Even Barrack Obama has stated on several occasions that the "children are our future", not just the "planned" ones.

My question, essentially, is who cares? My brother had a kid when he was 17 with a 25 year old daughter of a pastor. True story. It happens, folks, doesn't even matter how good a parent you were or how educated the kid is. You think they're thinking about safety, even if they know about? Sure as hell aren't.

I have plenty of other differences with Governor Palin to give a damn about her family. Start with the incredibly out of mainstream opinions on abortion and creationism. America is a country of moderates, how do you think that McCain got as far as he did? He was a maverick. -

Here's my thing, she's pregnant and 17, now she is going to marry the father, is she ready to be married? Does she love him or him her? How long will this marriage last? I hope for their sake and the child's that they do love each other and that it does work out because being brought up as an unwanted child in an marriage without love is not a good upbringing.

I think we're all being far too generous here. Does she even know who the father is? Maybe we could do a double DNA test and find out Trig's parentage as well. All efforts to put that rumor to rest have, thus far, been unsatisfying. And it's odd. All it would take is a birth certificate. Very odd indeed that the daughter is thrown to the wolves instead of providing that simple piece of paper.

Can it already, babies born with downs syndrome are usually born to women over 35. teenage pregnancies are very common,it even happens to poor, middleclass, upperclass and whoops, god forbid to sentor's,president's, government, and city offical's children. The point is they were born, not murdered. When I was pregnant with my son Joey, they said I would not make it, I was told to get an abortion. Wow, am I glad I did not do it, my son is 31,owns his own business, is bringing up his two sons by himself, their mom walked out on them and I could not be prouder of my son. His sons, my grandchildren are very well behaved children and both have been on the honor roll in school each year. What I would of missed out on, makes me shudder to think of, if I had aborted him. Life starts at conception period. Obama does not consider a baby baby until it is born. which by the way his father was married to another woman in africa when he so called married Obama's mother. How many wives can a man have at one time? Many if they are muslim. I knw because I came very close to marring an Aabic Muslim, Obama's father was black arabic muslim for the record. Obama is 50 white, 43.77% black arab muslim and 6.23 % black. Obama also shares a common genetic bloodline with President Bush. You would be surprisedif you knew anyting about genetic bloodlines, even your own. thought I'd give you all something to think about. I know mine, we had our family history done all the way back to 1368 on my mother's side.

Chicky1953.. reading your post, you must not know much about downs syndrome. 80% of babies born with Downs Syndrome are born to women between the ages of 22 and 28. THe odds are higher after age 35 then raise even higher after age 40. Some babies with DS are very capable of maintaining a "normal" life. (whatever "NORMAL" is). congrats on giong against the drs. and continuing your pregnancy. And good luck to your son. However, Women do NOT usually walk out of a marriage and leave kids behind, unless there was a problem in the marriage. If you want to brag about your family, find a place to do it and not in the political blog.

How old are you People??? I guess you are not old enough to remember Kennedy's Indiscretions, among other things. Oh, by the way, do you recollect what the economy was like when Carter was president?? Of course not, it was ten times worse than it is now. And by the way, the preparation for 911 happened on Clinton's watch along with Monica.

I don't consider Kennedy as a good president. And yes the preparations for 9?11 where going on during Clinton's watch and Clinton warned Bush about how serious of a threat Bin Ladin was and Bush ignored it. 9/11 happened on Bush's watch and Bin Ladin is still free. By the way the economy was good under Clinton, and Clinton authorized the air strike that ended Saddam Hussain's WMD program.

And if we had followed Carter's energy plan we probably wouldn't been in the predicament with foreign oil that we are in right now.
