Comments for Jon Voight Holds Court at the RNC »
Posted By tdrapeau 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsActor Jon Voight was mobbed by the media when he appeared at the Xcel Center for the Republican National Convention's third day. During an afternoon otherwise filled with chatter and speculation about what Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, will say in her speech tonight, the Academy Award winner's presence came as a welcome respite.
Despite being squashed into a crowded hallway, Voight looked very much in his element as he took the opportunity to hold court on Senator Obama, Russia, and Georgia...

Jon Voight's opinion is like anyone's opinion .... let's all think for ourselves. The Republicans sure looked weird at the convention, didn't they? Sure, they love their country, but the fundamental difference is that Democrats place a higher value on the human condition. The gap between the have and have-nots keeps growing.

Dcky, aren't you one of those people who likes to claim that all Democrats are on welfare? I think you're one of those people, Dcky. Why do you say things that you know I will catch you contradicting five minutes later in another thread, Dcky? Why do you do this when you know I can see right through cons as clearly as Larry Craig sees through a crack in an airport restroom stall, Dcky?

Who are the have and have nots? The inner city kids wearing $150.00 Nikes or wearing gold necklaces? The gap is between who wants to get educated and who does not. I am pretty surprised about how liberals are always espousing Darwinism and yet always whining about who has and has not. Is that not survival of the fittest? My father side of my family was coal miners and mothers were share croppers and I was not born with silver spoon-They pushed me through school and now I thank them. If people, not the GOVERMENT, took more responsibility then there would be less have nots. Quit your freaking whining-

It's very obvious that you are White, and I just think it's a shame that you somehow equate 150.00 Nikes and gold chain worn frequently by Black to 4,000.00 suits or 1,000.00 shoes worn by whites and funny you did'nt mention that. Or how much money they spend on food and boose, I know because I've seen them in the stores myself and I'm Black, I witness just how much money they spend it's my job to know. Actually White people spend more money on clothes than Black do. So, the mere fact that you mentions money shows that the education you received was a waste of your parents hard earn money, because you really have not learn anything. Last time I check Whites own more tennis shoes than Black and Diamonds, Gold, Boats, Houses, Cars, Jewery, etc. the list can go on but I'm sure you get the point. And furthermore your parent were not the first to be share croppers or coal miners, go back to the History Books. When you make a comment you need to be able to back what you say or simply don't say what cannot be proven, but college student know that.

Yes I am white and my wife is black and was educated at Georgetown. Her father was in Air Force and is now retired. He came from Oklahoma and his parents were farmers. We have two children and they go to private school. We decided to enroll them in private school because of people like yourself called my wife "a white wanna be" because she spoke well and did well in school. We did not want our kids to end up with the kind of people like you.

As for history: Ask yourself this; why were there more black entrepreneurs from 1920-1950's? Was it because of the Johnson Great Society bill when the government made it easier for blacks to have babies and get paid than to go out and either get educated or work hard to make a living?-

Was there an Oprah Winfrey in the 20's to 50's? Was there a Michael Jordan or a Barack Obama?? Out of all those entrepreneurs, how many were millionaires? How many still had to drink out of a coloreds only drinking fountain or ride in the back of a bus. How many were called derogatory names and excluded from most social circles? If it wasn't for Johnson it might still not even be acceptable in this society for you to have a black wife. She'd be your mistress.

Please get your history correct. It was not the democant's who help blacks with obtaining God, YES GOD, given rights, it was RepubliCANS. The liberal icon Al Gores father for one opposed the Civil Rights Act and termed the word "NEOCON' for democant’s who opposed the bill. Jim Crow was enacted by democant's. Richard Nixon was the first WHITE governor to be a supporter of the NAACP. Black Americans have been duped into believing democant's help them. Of course Adolph Hitler once said if you tell a lie enough the people will believe to be true.

There was a mass exodus to the Republican party by whitesafter the civil rights act was passed. Blacks joined the Democratic party in droves. It was the party of Kennedy. That's why ever since then, the Democratic party enjoyed the majority of votes from blacks in America. Your history fails to take note of that fact. The Democrats of the 60's are the Republicans of today. Johnson was well aware that he would lose the South by passing the bill.

I think that you are the racist, unfortunately. The person you replied to NEVER mentioned race NOR did they say what race they are. Where in the history books does it state that "white people" buy more materialistic things than "black people"? And you state that it's "your job to know" what people spend- do you work for one outlet? Several? An advertising firm? You never clarified your qualifications on being an expert or at least well schooled. Your statement of "When you make a comment you need to be able to back what you say or simply don't say what cannot be proven" automatically makes you a hypocrite for your reply because you didn't back up anything you said either. And FYI, (since race is obviously an important factor for you) I'm Native American.

Oh one last thing; maybe just maybe those white people in the suits and shoes have really good jobs and that perhaps that it is their money that they earned from those jobs to buy those nice things...Hmmm? I am also sure that those people do not live in the "Ghetto" and I use that loosely because I do not believe they are the same as the Ghetto's of Poland where times were really horrendous. I was in Suitland, Maryland a couple of years ago getting a Coke and as I walked in I saw the beautiful Lexus 400SC with 45 day tags; I went in and the black lady in front of me paid for some food with food stamps and as she walked out I looked at her, because she was attractive, she got into the Lexus and drove off. How many people in the inner city drive nice cars and yet complain they have no food are live in s*** holes. Huh?

Also, I think John Voights comments on socialism is rediculous. Simply because Obama believes in givng the citizens of America National Healthcare like every other civilized country (that are DEMOCRACIES) in the world.
Republicans believe everything they are told by their conservative politicians. I totally agree with you. I don't understand why despite our (people in the U.S) technological advances, people are still so hung up on race issues? It is about time that we socially evolve past that and realize that the group of people (as a whole) that is really screwed in this country is the Middle Class, whether you are White, Black, Hispanic, Native American or ******* martian you are being taxed to death. I am Hispanic and I had to drown myself in debt (courtesy of graduate student loans) to be able to have a nice job and earn a decent living. I get taxed about $30k a year and the goverment still has the audacity to tell me I owe taxes at the end of the year. What I have left barely covers for all the bills, and my mortgage size student loan. And since I am not rich, I don't qualify for all the exemptions the rich get, and since I don't have children I don't get the credits that a person with several children and that is on welfare would. So I am screwed!!!!! So am I a Have or a Have not???

I was a have not. Grew up in a single wide trailer, got free lunches, and my parents were on welfare a couple of times when needed, BUT this is still America land of opportunity! I worked full time and paid my way through college. Did it suck working 8 hours a day, getting off with barely enough time to eat dinner before going to class from 6-9, going home and doing homework 'til I couldn't keep my eyes open, then getting up and doing it again. You bet! It was the pits, but it was worth every sleepless night, every bill collection call, and every moment of stress. I now live a comfortable life in my two story home, paying for my own health insurance because we're self employed and getting sick of paying taxes to support the have nots who aren't willing to sacrifice and work hard enough to become one of the haves.

The difference is, His parents used it as it should be used. Welfare should be there to help people get back on their feet. Not to enable people to be LAZY baby-making free loaders. Poor pity me!!! Mrtwill3 is right on! Americans are a bunch of whiners! I sat next to a man on an airplane last week who was origanally from Jordan. He kept telling me that Americans don't know how good they have it and he thanks his lucky stars everyday for the opportunity to live and raise his children in this wonderful country. You think it's so bad here? Travel a little bit. You'll change your tune.

There are generations of people raised to be dependent on public assistance. My wife's family is an example. Her Mom told us when our son was born, "Isn't it too bad that you don't qualify for WIC?" I told my wife later, "What your Mom doesn't realize is that people who work are paying for all that free public assistance money that your Mom mentioned."

Why do you say this, Dcky? The world was a lot less violent a place when we weren't invading multiple countries simultaneously and making life hellish for our allies by dragging them along to help us fight illegal wars. When Bill Clinton was President, gas was way cheaper too, the economy was way better, we had more jobs, we weren't afraid of being poisoned by our food supply, we weren't worried that our kids would be maimed or killed by toys or poisoned by lead, we didn't fear that bridges would fall out from under our cars when we drove over them and we had a President who didn't thoroughly embarrass us every where he went. What happened, Dcky? How did things go so horribly wrong such that we're in the hellhole that is the US today? How did we get to this ugly, dark, horrifying place that smells like a septic tank no one wants to visit? ;-(

All that money could have been spent here on numerous things like alternative fuel sources..etc....Now thanks to this war many have lost their jobs, their homes and we still depend on oil just as much. How much more money do we need to spend? I think now should be pay back time...they should pay back all that had been spent in their country.

I'm not opposed to helping people in need; I think we should help when they're down. I'm opposed to people living off the system and becoming dependent upon it for their financial security. I live in a state where that is the bulk of our welfare system. That's not helping them; it ensures they'll always be the have nots and teaches them not to do for themselves because the government will do it for them. The governement can help, but it shouldn't replace personal responsibility for oneself and, sadly, that's what it's become.

That was your quote. I didn't change any thing. What if the people back then when your parents applied for welfare had the same attitude? What if they told them "tough luck, go get a job." Would the chances that you someday would have become a useful member of society have been in jeopardy? Think about it. Everyone needs a little help now and then. What's angers me is whaen people feel that they have reached the level where they think that helping others less fortunate is not an option. I call these people ungrateful and greedy. Rather than help people get jobs and help people try to get back on their feet, some only worry about their taxes increasing. They care little more than for themselves.-

I don't have a problem paying taxes or even seeing them increase; I have a problem with how the money is spent. My parents used welfare as it was intended, until they got back on their feet. In fact in my reply I agreed that we should help others; that doesn't change the fact that the governments way of "help" isn't help at all. It's a system designed to keep people in poverty and on the system to ensure they'll continue to get that person's vote and stay in power. That's not help, that's an abuse of power. That's not helping the people get jobs and experience the pride of providing for their family, and it sure isn't closing the gap between the haves and have nots. The government's solution...more programs and dependency on the government! It's not help, it's politics.

WV is a very poor state. A lot of families suffer from disease as a result of the coal mining chemical cesspools left behind that seep into the groundwater. Most jobs there are service jobs and hardly allow a family to make ends meet. I'm not saying that everyone who's needy is getting helped and I'm not saying that everyone that's being helped is needy, but I'd rather spend a dollar here on my fellow Americans, than a penny in Iraq.

The problem is that those who say the charming things you do are often totally oblivious of or dismissive of all the welfare dollars that go to those who are not only not needy but downright wealthy. Cons seem to know when they're being "bilked" by the poor but either don't care or aren't aware of how their tax dollars support those people and institutions that are in no way needy.
Reply
Take the war in Iraq (or just defense in general)...Do you scan the headlines every day looking for instances of waste, fraud and abuse of your tax dollars when it comes to the military? Do you cluck your teeth, wring your hands, furrow your brow and just generally behave in a spastic manner when you hear that your tax dollars are being soent on wealthy people who don't deserve it? I strongly suspect you do not. I've never seen one single con here question military expenses and I find this deeply troubling.
I think it's wonderful that you're all for personal responsibility but what we really need for those on the right to do is ask themselves why they insist on defining "welfare" so narrowly and why they're convinced no one realizes they're doing this. ;-(

Face it, some people will never be able to become productive. It could be disease or mental retardation or a number of other maladies. I don't think that anyone should abuse the system either, but a few high profile cases have given way to drastic cuts. Cuts that affected those that really needed it. Everytime they need to cut the budget, entitlement programs are the first one eyed for cuts. No one thinks of the actual implications, because these people(the poor) generally have little influence. Why are we spending 10 billion a month to rebuild Iraq, and at the same time angry about a mother that sold her food stamps to buy gas for her car?

AMERICAN GIRL is right. Many of us were have nots, and I am one of them. I grew up in a family of six children, but my parents taught us to work and obey the laws. I never wore gold chains or diamond earings as a man, I never had time to use drugs or get arrested or end up with bad credit, I was too busy working and educating myself at my own expense. Today at 70, I have a beautiful home, spend my summers in New England and my winters in Florida. I don't know what the inside of a jail or prison look like. I didn't have time to commit crimes, I was too busy working sometimes two jobs. I didn't have money for drugs, I spent my money on my education and later on raising my son to be a good productive member of sociaty. I am by my choice, a winner.

Glad your happy. You were living in a different time, which peaked in the 70's. After the 80's things changed and the working class took the biggest hit. For a kid today graduating to have the same opportunity without the option of bankruptcy or other protections, or even the number of grants available for working class parents, is the lowest ever. Well to do parents can give their kids a leg up, but in today's climate of fast money, selling coke and marijuana, or their images on the internet is more attractive than working hard at a fast food restaurant. "Winning" has a new meaning today. Those who die with the most stuff wins? Or how about those who rack up the most debt wins!

I do not ever want to use assistance. My grandfather was a proud Dust Bowl survivor who farmed himself into retirement, yet was never complaining about the assistance he received to keep his family alive. Once he got above water, he was better for it, and the country became ripe for opportunity again. All the later generations have is the debt they will inherit, without the opportunities to earn enough to pay off thier own.
Peace be with you.

THIS IS A GREAT FORUM. Freedom of speech is what it is all about. If you knew the sociological, economic, and emotional consequences of socialism in Scandinavia, you would tell the world to vote for McCain/Palin. In Denmark the tax for an automobile is almost 100% of the cost of the car! Lazy creeps have migrated to Denmark and France to get on the social system, protesting to change their laws to suit their own religious principles. If that is what you are trying to say, the ignorance of that statement would be laughable if you weren't serious!!

much of the gap between the have and have- nots is directly related to the work and work- nots. Sure the economy is in trouble due to the mortgage fiasco (brought on by greedy banks loaning money to folks who bought over their heads), and to the foreign oil hostage situation we are in. The smoke and mirror plan to tax add taxes to businesses, so funds can be given to lower income people is a sham. If you really have the best interest of the people, get the congress and other overpaid politicians to take a voluntary reduction in their pay, and send that to the poor and downtrodden you pretend to care so much about.

BTW, where was the Dem party hiding during the latest New Orleans storm? I did not see one news piece of any Dems volunteering like the Republicans did. Could it be they were too busy laughing that the Republicans decided to postpone the convention?
Bottom line, it's time to get rid of all the self serving lawyers!

Palin may be a tough-talking and yet maternal woman, but the issue is she's still on the WRONG side of the issues. That's what everyone seems to be losing sight of with all the hoopla about her kids, etc. Also, she's a Governor who's under investigation for abuse of power. Realistically, why would one of her staffers try to intimidate the head of the Troopers to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law if he wasn't asked to do so by Palin??? Let's not forget that if John McCain is elected (God forbid) and IF he survives his term in office, he'll reverse Roe vs. Wade and reinstate the draft, among other things....not to mention probably getting us into war with Russia. It should be totally obvious that he's pandering to the Evangelicals. He's running scared of Obama and is willing, at this point, to do anything or pick anyone he thinks will get him elected...AND...how many faces of color did you see in the convention hall last night? I counted about 5 or 6. What does that say about the Repuglican party???
People, put on your thinking caps and wake up to reality. Don't be fooled by all the hype. McCain may have been a war hero, but he's as intellectually bereft as George Bush. This country needs a President with a brain. We haven't had one since Bill Clinton and are long overdue. As far as Joe Lieberman is concerned, he's a closet Repuglican and should be shot with s--t and put in jail for stinking! If I were him, I'd bring a food taster with me when I return to the Senate.-

Well written....Why is John McCain a war hero...because his plane was shot down in action? Remember, he broke down in questioning by the enemy at the time and gave in to answering all there untrue created remarks for McCain. He did this to save himself from torture. Hundreds of other american captives did not give in and absorbed the brutality. NOW THEY WERE HERO'S....JOHN MCCAIN WAS NOT.....A COWARD YES...A HERO..NO WAY!

buonefortune..so your view is that John MaCain is a coward because he served his country; spent 5 years in a 4x6 cell in absolute squalor; was beaten mercilessly on a daily basis ;and refused to leave prison early because it wasn't fair to others. What could your definition of bravery possibly be??

That's just his account of the story. There are many veterans out there that differ with this account. I think it was never investigated, because he was the son of an admiral. Do a google search on "McCain" "against" "veterans" and start reading.

I do njot know who is less informed, Jovial or Buonefortune. First, McCain cannot raise his arms above his head because of the amount of torture he endured at the hands of his RVN captors. As for being investigated, I was a member of the Operqation Homecoming Defriefing team, and we were all ordered to forget wear crimes, so even if he had said something, which he did not, he would not have been investigated. The ONLY ones who were investigated were those who gave aid and comfort to the enemy, and they were in a distinct minority, much to the credit of those who served in the US Military.

Perhaps you're too young to remember, but there was a real gas shortage crisis in 1973...cars were lined up for blocks, and our economy almost came to a halt. Every president since then has known we were facing an oil shortage dilemma but none of them addressed the issue, as it was a political hot potato that they avoided...caring more about public opinion than the future of our nation. Please read the comments of capecoralim below, and start thinking...really thinking. You sound bright...but are seeing the glitz, not the substance, perhaps.

Thanks, I thought you were fairly intelligent too--right up until you endorsed cape as a voice of reason. Not good. In any event, what every American has known is that EVERY time there is conflict in that region, oil prices spike dramatically 1973 oil embargo, Iraq Iran war, Kuwait invasion, etc. That's why I find it stunning that those on the right have forgotten modern history and insist on blaming this so called "shortage" on Democrats. If you destabilize oil rich regions, the price of gas will go UP. That's always happened and why cons are pretending any different is beyond me.
Reply
Let's be clear. I don't trust Republicans at all. I think they're greedy and self-serving and will lie to get a tax cut and to have a cheap tank of gas. Cons are not reasonable or logical and they are constantly proving this. You believe that Republicans have screwed you over for cheap labor yet you find it hard to conceive of the possibility that they are just as opportunistic in their pursuit of drilling for oil.
Here is reason and logic. Republicans are funded heavily by the oil companies. This alone should be a red flag and cons should understand that this is a blatant conflict of interest. Therefore their credibility is ZERO. They're trying to sustain the power of those who make it possible for THEM to stay in power and you con wing nuts act as if you don't think anyone is aware of this.
There are HUGE profits in oil and therefore there is a HUGE incentive for those who want to profit to lie, cheat, steal and do whatever is necessary to get and maintain those profits. I don't believe a word of what you're saying and I sure as hell don't believe anything cape posts. I don't trust people who are clearly willing to pimp their country for a buck and for whom no low is too low. Do not talk to me as if you think you're totally reasonable and logical because I know what cons are up to before they even know. You people absolutely cannot be trusted to run so much as a flea circus.

Wow britracing, you are led to believe that the economy has failed because of GAS! You really need to wake up and realize the this economy under this current leadership has failed because of poor decisions by BUSH! He has caused a lot of issues to raised for many of year's to come. It's just didn't happen in the last year. It happen over the course of his term. Now you have someone that agreed with his views running for the same office. Not to say that who ever going to take the oath for the office is going to bring us from what we have endured for so long. It will take a miracle to correct all of this over spending and not just because of GAS so do get caught up in the hype that McBUSH could correct what these rep. and dems have took this country for. Everyone has a story and have no solution. These conventions and debates are good for only one thing. ENTERTAINMENT. Until someone get into Office and begin to give Americans back their dignity and respect, then listening to what someone could do ain't worth the small talk that they give. So I'll vote and wait to see how Obama makes the changes or McBush makes the changes or Joe or Sarah make the changes and I'll live on just as I have since I was born until my time is up on this earth. Bless Americans and Bless the one's that chooses to lead America! All this talk about who's better doesn't matter not one bit, regardless of who's there(Office) we get what we get for 4-8 years. Then we either have a 28% approval or a 90% approval that's the difference for the last 16 years for the outgoing leader and chief. (Bush now) (Clinton then). And tell me this, How in the HE double hockey stick we lose as many jobs in America in the past 2 years from 22 mil then when we had went Clinton in Office 10 years ago everything was better. If now is better then it was ten years ago, then I don't want now again. Back then I could remember when people wasn't loosing their jobs, homes, and businesses. You have people who'd you'd never thought would be out committing crimes to survive committing crimes. WOW! But anyway you have that American Right to get on here and say that because some one didn't wear a "Flag Pin" he's not qualified. That's nothing but trivia issues. But you have a canidate that's collecting Social Security and thinks there's nothing wrong with that! And you think McBush is not going to raise taxes, God help US.....

So, you're for OH Bummer, who if elected will be a figurehead president. The executive branch will be run by committee, or most likely by Blowhard Biden. John McCain cannot reverse Roe V Wade. that's the Supreme Court's ballpark. I don't believe it will be reversed. I'd hate to see young women patronizing fly by night abortion clinics, nor abortion being criminalized again. We have enough people in prison. I am Pro-Choice. You have a choice of using condoms, IUDs, spermicides and other forms of contraceptives. Unlike OH Bummer, it is not above my paygrade to know that life begins at conception. If not, why wear condoms. It's late term or partial birth abortion I am against. Incest or rape induced pregnancies, then the mother should have that choice. If you're too lazy, too stupid,or you just succumbed to lust during a weak moment; to prevent the pregnancy, you deserve your prize. BTW, there are 57 states of Islam which OH Bummer has visited. FWIW, I will waste my vote to a man of substance rather than on an empty suit. As for Palin, it's just a chance that she'll assume the presidency. After all, she's better qualified than Pelosi whose 3rd in line. You're asking people to think; looks like you're not. Grow up and think. Vote with your head, not with what the media sez you have. -

It was under Clinton's watch that the lending institution lost their flipping minds!!!! They were loaning huge amounts of money left and right to people that had no business taking on that much debt. Now look at what is happening!!! Foreclosures everywhere. It isn't because the economy is so bad it's because these young people were lead to believe it was a free for all and they had to keep up with the Jones. Now, ten years later they are drownding in there own debt. If we would quit giving all of our money to China....something else that started when Clinton was in office, our companies wouldn't be doing as poorly as they are.

Look around you, all of Capitol Hill is abusing there power for anything and everything they need: republican, democrat,or liberal. And as far as being fooled, there isn't a presidential candidate that hasn't fooled the American people yet. Even Clinton stood in front of God and everyone and swore to uphold the dignity for the Presidential Office and I think we all know how long that lasted. Palin is fortunately on the right side of almost everything that America stands for - a true non-sociaist. She is the right person for the right job at the right time - what a breath of fresh air. She is real, a stark contrast to all the liberal phonies that talk "change", when all they want to reduce the size of your wallet and control your life. You have obviously never worked with government people - no motivation, just exist to collect a paycheck. The exact opposite of the entrepreneur. Read the story of the grasshopper and the ant - quite revealing.

Let's be real about this relationship and all the relationships in America. The younger generations have fallen so low in moral standards that there is absolutely no respect for themselves, much less their parents. By the way....have Angelina and Brad married yet??? Not as of yesterday. What does that say about their morals? As far as Angelina and her father, well....I can't say that relationships for just about everyone in America are any different. This country has fallen, and will continue to fall as long as there are no moral values, no respect for parents, no respect for themselves, and especially no respect or belief in God. I agree on one point, as far as role models...they are non-existant in this day and time. Everyone in America should look to God as their role model...not to man.

Oh come on! You state it as fact and then ask a judgmental question, and then you say you are not judging her and Brads actions, Get real!
"The couple recently said they would donate $300,000 (£160,000) towards maternity equipment in Namibia.
The money will be spent on treating new babies at state hospitals in two towns in the southern African country."
She has done more for the poor people of Africa than most actors including her estranged father. So who cares about whether she and brad are married, you also failed to mention that Brad did in fact adopt her first adopted child also. Morality takes many forms and one of them is being tolerant of other people and other cultures that may be different from you and letting them define themselves by there own actions and not judging them based on your own beliefs or your own values. When George Bush was elected he was put up as a compassionate conservative Christian with high moral standings. If you judge him by his actions and his results over the last 8 years, well what frigging disaster he has been on so many levels! The point is, the fact that your intolerant and judgmental of there personal decisions is that not disrespectful and imoral?

The term neoconservative was originally used as a criticism against liberals who had "moved to the right".[3][4] Michael Harrington, a democratic socialist, coined the usage of neoconservative in a 1973 Dissent magazine article concerning welfare policy.[5] According to E. J. Dionne, the nascent neoconservatives were driven by "the notion that liberalism" had failed and "no longer knew what it was talking about."[1]
Reply
The first major neoconservative to embrace the term was Irving Kristol, in his 1979 article "Confessions of a True, Self-Confessed 'Neoconservative.
Here you go. Directly from Wikipedia. And by the way "Dixiecrat".....The States' Rights Democratic Party (commonly known as the Dixiecrats) was a segregationist, socially conservative political party in the United States. The term Dixiecrat is a portmanteau of Dixie, referring to the Southern United States, and Democrat, referring to the United States Democratic Party. It split with the Democratic Party in the mid-20th century determined to protect what they saw as the Southern way of life against an oppressive federal government.[1]

So dead babies go to hell?
Reply
I think Jesus would differ with you on this. What was the parable of the Good Samaritan about anyway? That many unbelievers are more deserving of God's grace than so-called "believers." The Pharisees and Sadducees (sp?) had faith up the wazoo, but it did no good, since they were too blinded by their traditions to see good works.
Faith can bring you back to God, and it can help in your daily struggles, but "whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me" shows the value of good works.-

But she said that good works amount to nothing, the only thing that matters is Faith. And babies, who are not self-aware, cannot have faith. If I use the assumption that Yonkers statement is true, then I can logically arrive at the conclusion that dead babies are not right with God.
Reply
Any comment on the rest of it? That Jesus clearly used parables that demonstrated that good works are also important and that faith in a vacuum means nothing?

Family values, Jon Voight has.His daughter Angelina, is a homewrecking tramp. He's tried numerous times to rectify the bad relationship with her, but she wants nothing to do with him.Yet, she's had three babies with Brad Pitt and adopted a few more.

Fortunately she has the money to be a goodwill ambassador and be able to afford
traveling all around the world to pick one child out of millions of starving children to adopt.
Jon Voight has been a constant...She's a schizophrenic nymphomaniac who thinks by
baring her naked body on screen to everybody in the audience...She'll make lots of
money so when the time comes she'll be able to keep her youthful looks, also known
as plastic surgery.Look, she had her lips a few years ago blown up for beauty.
Angelina wanted Brad Pitt in the worst way.So she laid down and screwed him, even though he was married to Jen Aniston.
Jen Aniston said it correct "He's missing a sensitivity chip or someting" aboutBrad.
She's right. Both Angelina and Brad are both missing senitivity chips.
I feel for Jon Voight when it comes to trying to be a parent. Sometimes you make mistakes, and the kids take it out on you .You try your best to try to help them become good persons, but no matter what, if they have a missing chip somewhere, theres' nothing you can do...Just let them go and hope they do alright.
Jon did that. There are two sides to every story.Maybe we heard Angelinas point of how she was raised, Maybe her mother wasn't as perfect as Angelina would like.Denial is not a river in Egypt. Denial hurts everyone.

John McCain largely left Obama alone during his convention , and now Obama is not only sticking his face into MCCains, he decided to go on Fox news after how many many times they asked him, on the night of McCains acceptance of the nomination. How rude. Flat out ungentlemanly and ignorant . His supporters are not protesting in peace, they are tearing up St Paul MN, what gives them that right? It's not thier city . The impact of Obamas convention speech has become null and void in my eyes when I look at how he is a hypocrite about change. If he wanted real change he would have made himself scarce like MCCain did during an opponents convention. His actions speak volumnes and it's loud and clear he has no class, in spite of a spiffy suit .

Not so true. My husband is a veteran of the VietNam war, and he is definitely voting for McCain. And no, he was not on the "sidelines" of the war. He was a "grunt". Do you know what that means? If not, let me know, and I will explain it to you. He was wounded in the war, but he's definitely not whining about it, and never has. We are well informed, so to say "before you vote, go visit a VA hospital and talk to the real "War Heroes", and we have done so, right here in our city. The fact is, McCain is the lesser of the two evils...yes I said evils. Obama is evil. He is un-American and he has virtually no experience. He speaks like Rev Wright, who is obviously against all whites, which is his perogative, and does it publicly. If we, as white Americans spoke out against all black communities, we would be reprimanded. to the fullest extent of the law. You should learn before YOU vote.

Where were you last Friday, the day after Obama's acceptance speech, when McCain tried to overshadow the effect of that speech by announcing his running mate? Must have had your head under the same rock as McCain. (HMMM) You really need to do some research about the candidates before you go off an a tirade filled with emotion and no facts. The facts are that McCain can't even spell class due to the mud and lies he's been slinging for the past 2 months. Get a grip on life or just say "no"....

"voted to let live already aborte babies die": this question is for you and you alone. Do you know for what bill he voted this way? Have you ever dared to look deeper than the spin and find out all the issues of this vote, or do you actually believe that the wording was:
"Be it resolved that physicians should leave living babies that survived an abortion attempt to perish in the elements without providing them aid"
and that Obama voted "Yes, I think that's a great idea!" -

Right, because announcing his VP pick on the night of Obama's speech was away to avoid attracting attention....
As for your "judgement" about the people "judging" Palin... they're not judging Palin, they're judging her fitness to be Vice President - which is the duty of responsible citizens when electing a leader. And your criticism of "judgement" coming right after your judgement of Obama (and resulting in "judgement" of all the "judges" reeks of blatant hypocrisy.
Thanks for coming out. Do come back, but try to be a little less one-sided next time, will you? -

Reply
If the race thing weren't an issue already, wouldn't people have just ignored his comments and laughed them off? Or decided he was completely ignorant about race relations and not gotten behind him?
The fact that his candidacy and his words have caused such tensions to come to the surface is proof that the tensions were there, and not deeply buried, either.
Finally, do you think that God prefers War or Peace? -

I HAVE NEVER BEEN AS FIGHTENED ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF AN ELECTION AS I AM THIS YEAR. TO LEAVE OUR COUNTRY IN THE HANDS OF A MAN WITH NO EXPIERIENCE. WHOS ONLY CLAIM TO FAME IS THAT HE IS A GOOD SPEAKER...WHO HAS NO FORIEGN POLICY EXPIERIENCE.... AND WHO WANTS TO "TALK" TO TERRORISTS...IS A GRAVE ERROR. HOW DO YOU TALK AND REASON WITH PEOPLE WHO STRAP BOMBS ON THIER WOMEN AND CHILDREN KNOWING FULL WELL THEY ARE GOING TO DIE...JUST TO KILL AMERICANS OR AMERICAN SUPPORTERS???? LETS NOT FORGET THAT THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION LET BIN LADEN LIVE TO COMMITT THE HORRIBLE CRIMES ON 9/11. THIS WAS HIS SECOND ATTEMPT TO TAKE DOWN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. HIS FIRST WAS DURING BILL CLINTONS REIGN AS PRESIDENT AND WE COULD HAVE HAD HIM THEN. EVERYONE IS SO QUICK TO CRITISIZE PRESIDENT BUSH. ALL HES DONE IS TRY TO CLEAN UP THE MESS LEFT TO US BY THE DEMOCRATS WHO HELD OFFICE BEFORE HIM. jone101... I couldn't agree with you more. First of all a law degree doesn't qualify you to be president. It only assures that you have the gift to gab and can manipulate the laws we have. Bill Clinton gave the best example of how arrogant an attorney is with his, it depends what is is crap. That and a few lies to the wrong people got him disbarred and impeached. To an attorney it's not who's right or wrong, it's who can bs the best. Vote for the man that will keep us safe from future terrorist attacks. George Bush did. Many liberals to this day poo poo what happened on 9/11. Of course the same ones could give a **** less about world war 1 or 2 and more than likely spent most of their college time, if they went, protesting Viet Nam instead of focusing on an education to better America. Liberalism is killing America. Our founding Fathers could not even imagine the liberal society today and how their works have been manipulated. Great job Sarah Palin, the next VP of the United States of America.

Or one that claims to be a war hero, because he was shot down and captured. Is that all that is needed to be President? If that's the criteria, then there are thousands of eligible candidates. The only reason he picked Palin is for political reasons. He would have never picked a woman. The reason he did was to get the elusive disgruntled Hillary voters. After he's elected he won't give woman's issues another thought. Don't be so easily fooled.

Above all, it is important to RESEARCH the candidates...there are plenty of sites that are reputable. Make an informed vote....this race is very important, especially since the US is NOT looked upon favorably by other countries, is NOT economically sound, and yes, let's NOT forget our "wounded warriors" who are NOT getting the benefits they were promised. Look at what your candidate has done over the years, and vote responsibly!! A pretty face, a POW, does not give you the answers you need.

Jon Voight was trying to be nice with his comments. Sarah Palin made all of them look bad. I hope that since they have heard her speech, it will stop the stupid comments that have been made about her. Biden had better brush up on things if he is going to debate her. She reminded me of Rocky coming into the ring after Appollo when he got really mad. I for one, sure wish I had the beauty, brains and guts that she has. She will make a great VP. John McCain chose well.

I find it hard to believe that any significant number of bloggers sincerely are excited about either of these candidates. McCain is a great hero for his courage as a P.O.W., but a former top general commented that this doesn't qualify him to run the country. His intellect is indicated by his place as #894 in a class of 899 at Annapolis. That's how he got in bed with lobbyists and the Keating Five -- he is honorable, but not too bright. His running mate might be fine, but a very small town mayor who has barely gotten her feet wet as governor of an underpopulated wilderness isn't especially well-prepared either.
On the other side of the aisle we have a guy who did done nothing after being elected to office -- other than pursue another office. No record of achievement, only a record of making clear statements that can be read to support either side -- he's not against war, he is against "dumb" war (Iraq), and thinks we should send more troops to Afghanistan (a dumber war that he knows less about). His polished vacuousness makes him the paragon of electability. His running mate, too, is a professional politician. Never did anything but get into office and stay there. Knows nothing but being a senator for, what is it, 34 years? Experience, yes. But doing the same thing for 34 years means very little experience outside his sheltered gentleman's club.
So, pick one team or the other, but why not declare a truce among bloggers. These politicians s are all nice enough, and dull enough; good enough and incompetent enough; handsome enough and unqualified enough. If you can't resist, cast a vote for the pair you think will do the least damage. It's a tough call.-

In defense of Sen.McCain's intelligence you say he graduated 894 of 899. Do you have any idea of how truly difficult it is, first to be accepted, second to survive four years, and when you're a rascal, as McCain surely was, almost impossible to graduate. My son is a graduate (class of '94) and I can assure you, there is not one graduate that is not of superior intelligence. (besides a rigorous scholastic agenda, there's an incredibly difficult program of physical skills as well as learning military history and training) Puhleeeze! Annapolis was ranked the number one college by Newsweek a few years ago. It's considerably more demanding than going to Harvard or Princeton, because all those students have to do is study...military academies demand much, much more!

The problem with your analysis is that the P.O.W. plans to govern the same way that our current President (who, by most reasonably sensible accounts, has pretty much rendered the US FUBAR). The Democratic Presidential candidate's platform closely resembles that of our previous Democratic President and I think we can all agree that the differences between the last 8 years and the previous 8 years are like night and day. It's time for us to vote Democratic and step back into rays of hope and promise and daylight. Don't vote for McCain-- and slip further into a dark abyss of horror and insanity. No one could possibly think that's an appealing future for America. ;-(

I have been around a long time. I am reading all these posts and watching these convention speeches. As a white Republican I am embarassed. I watched this woman, lady and mother speak last night and I was even more embarrassed. When her hometown leaked all her business in the major media. I was rooting for her. After listening I am embarassed for her and even more angrier at John Mc Cain. Let's be real, John McCain is a loser. He's just as rich as I am. He a womanizer. All he cares about is war and drilling to put more oil money in his pocket. Now I do not care about the oil part. But a war However our army is weak right now. If we are attacked we all could die. The Bush administration has made so many enemies they are ready to attack at any moment. Guess what ? We don't have the manpower. Russia is ready to attack and if China decided join we are doomed. Besides all of the other countries Bush is at odds with. I hope all of you people blogging who appear to be a racist (such as myself) have plenty of money. If you are middle class, be ready to join lower class. If you are low class be prepared to do jail time, because the welfare system will not be able to take care of you. As much as I hate it. I am switching parties to vote Democrat and so are my rich good ole buddy boys. Reason being: I have grandchidren and great grand children. If the Republican's win there is a strong possibility Palin will become President and the Bush Adminstration will still have control. When I am dead and gone my great and grands will have to pay for the last 8 years plus another 4. This is not the time for you to be prejudice if you are a heart beat away from being broke. Remember Palin is a heartbeat away from being President . Talk all the nonsense you want. But wisen up its your pockets not mine.

Jon Voight is as ignorant as the rest of them. That would be in defining what a Strong America is. There is a difference between a strong America and a Strong Arm America. A Strong America is a financially solvent America. Without that power, we are heading towards the last days of Cold War Russia. A Strong Arm America is one where we dictate the policies of sovereign nations and bully our way into 3rd world nations affairs. That is NOT strength! This is not Post WW2 America anymore. We trained Japan and Germany to KILL us economically after that war, and they did.

The subject was Jon Voight, and I agree completely with what he said in the video. Senator Obama's solutions to our problems is pure Socialism, and that's something I do NOT want in this country at all. America is about individual rights.
Reply
I am NOT my brother's keeper. You want that, move to Cuba.
It's apparent that neither Communism or Socialism works, because it taxes everyone until they have nothing left, and it helps people by siphoning money from the tax receipts while the unethical politicians siphon off money for their "special programs" which are worthless money wasters. If it weren't for Medicare, a government run program, medical costs wouldn't be astronimical, they went up, because doctors realized the government would pay for everything and it was like a blank check, so they over charge. Wake up America. The answer is not in all of us pitching in billions of dollars to help each other, the answer is giving the individual the opportunity to use his own money to start businesses, create jobs, and watch America flourish. It's been this constant government interference, (that's what Obama wants more of) that has stifled free enterprise and dampened people's incentive to create more businesses and more jobs. Health care is NOT a right. Education is NOT a right. It's not up to me to pay for it for someone else. I make it my business to stay healthy and stay educated, and it isn't costing me anything. All the "help me I'm poor" people in this country ought to learn how to stand on their own two feet and quit whining and begging the government to pay their way in this world. Personally, I am sick of it, and Obama's speech was full of it. No pun intended. :) -

To even believes that John McCain puts country first and not his political career can be answered with his pick of Sarah Palin. She might have experience as a Mayor and Govenor, but didn't George Bush pretend to be a govenor and look what he was able to accomplish with his executive experience. Further, Palin is very outspoken about putting God first and then Country and that we should all just pray for our oil crisis and that our real purpose in going to Iraq was for God and that is was a mission for God. Was she telling us that George Bush is God or that her God wants us to go to war. We had for 8 years the president who wanted to be remembered as the "War President". Now with McCain the war hawk ready to avenge his time in a pow camp, especially against Russia and now with Palin and God wanting to go to war, it scares me alot.

It's a side effect of being born into a strict home. I am really surprised she didn't self-induce an abortion. I actually knew a girl who was so afraid of her parents that she tossed her baby in the trash after having it in a bathroom stall at school. Thankfully, there seems to be some reason in Palin to not cause this to happen. However, not all skeletons have been found yet.

That doesn't men he knows jack about politics, but he's dead on about Russia. And exactly right about the socialist agenda of Obama (who is actually a Marxist). Socialism is where tax paying slaves support elite dictators. Oh wait, we've been there done that for four years. Bush has been coddling and pandering to Islam for their oil, and sending Americans to combat in the middle east for oil Obama is being funded by Islam. I don't think we here in America want women in burkas. And we don't want our loved ones dying in the middle east so elites can have their investment portfolios in oil trillionized. Then there is China who invaded and occupies Tibet, and would do the same here if they thought they could get away with it? Would we rather have Russia as an ally with us, or as our foe with the Chinese? Ron Paul would have set this nation straight, but the media crushed him. Palin is our next chance to escape servitude to elites. Let's not let Obamamania and the braindead mainstream media crush her.-

The problem, as I see it is that not enough of those posting on this board are sacrificing for the war they claim to support. If you were sacrificing in some meaningful way (yeah...so a couple people served in the military or know someone in the military--that doesn't mean cons in general are sacrificing for what they claim to believe in)you wouldn't be so eager to stay the course (which is basically cons playing cheerleader from the sidelines while you watch others die and you collect bigger tax cuts).

After her speech, which lacked substance and was no more than an attack ad for the McCain campaign, I'm convinced that she is bad for America. She may be a mediocre governor, but definitely not one to represent the people of America.

Jon Voight was simply addressing the fact that if Barry Obama had any reasoning capability at all, it would not have taken him twenty (20) years to leave Rev Jeremiah Wright black Liberation Theology church. That take no responsibilty blame whitey preaching caused Ms. Obama to speak thiose stupid words regarding her Country.

If you're going to point finger at Palin about her daughter and call her names your had better be ready to point it at thousands of other families in this country. And just because she running for VP doesn't make her family any different. Teenagers do what they want no matter what you say to them or try to teach them.

Having been a liberal my first 30 yrs. and having learned wisdom in my last thirty, becoming a thinking independent, I can assure anyone reading this, that John McCain, who endured 5 years of unimaginable suffering as a prisoner of war, and before that, countless tests in endurance and bravery as a fighter pilot, is never, ever going to be 'running scared' of a paper tiger like poor obama. (whom I pity with all my heart) Jon Voight, an actor of distinction and taste, reflects his intelligence and ability to think for himself in the self-absorbed, narcisitic, fascist (aka liberal) environment that is today's Hollywood. It's unfortunate that such a collection of nincompoops have such a pulpit to promulgate their amoral, unethical, totally irrational and degenerate lifestyles to the rest of the world. They call the rest of the nation "fly-overs' imagining that the rest of us aren't up to their sophistication and supreme savoir faire...that's about the only thing they have right. Heaven protect us from these mental midgets who are so puffed up with their own self importance (because they're relentlessly pursued by even smaller mental midgets armed with microphones and cameras) and may God continue to bless and protect Jon Voight.

Why is up to my tax money to take care of those that do not have? Forget socialism, let's go back to family helping family. If you don't have what you want work for it. It's not up to me to make sure you have what I have. And it's also not up to me to pay for someone elses healthcare that isn't even a citizen. Good Grief! The gap is getting wider because those that have, have got to pay for those that don't.

When the republicans have no real issues they always fall back on how the democrats will raise taxes and are big government. But when you look at the facts, Obama's plan is to reduce taxes on 80% of the people and only raise taxes on the top 20%. Also, Bush has increased government spending not to help American citizens but big profit oil companies. The stock markets have also done better under democrats than republicans anyway. Sara Palin is eye candy and a great speaker but she is not qualified to be VP.

If only people would stop and think and talk about the issues. Its not about personalities and popularity. Its about who is going to try their best to better the world situation. I have nothing against Obama....but he has of yet not come up with any concrete ideas to make things better. McCaine has. He has tons of experience and has proven to be a man of his word. What more do we need? Palin is a breath of fresh air. She is not afraid to buck the tide....just like McCaine. Obama reminds me of a kid running for president of his high school class. He just tries to say the right thing to the right people and then goes off and does what HE wants to do. In my opinion ....at least 40% of the voters (and that might be a low estimate) have no business going into the voting booths....because they don't have sense enough to vote with their hearts instead of being coerced by the left wing liberals and media. If people would just take the time to think about what is going on in our world today and what type of individual we need leading the most influential country on earth....it would be no contest. McCaine will win....but not by nearly as much as he should. I think there should be a test required to determine if a potential voter is qualified to cast a ballot....I really do.

I find it very sad that you think a man with a notoriously short temper, whose co-workers "can't stand him" is the type of individual needed to lead the most influential country on earth.

BTW, your last comment, that not all voters should be eligible to cast a ballot, is about the furthest thing from democracy imaginable. It certainly might make things interesting though. What kind of test do you figure? IQ? Noone with IQ under 130 gets a vote? Rule by the elite only? Or should it be based on income? Only those in the top 20% get to vote? Or by party affiliation? That would make it incredibly fair. Only Republicans are to be allowed to vote in elections? How about religion? If you can't name at least 8 of the 12 apostles, you don't deserve a vote? -

I am totally surprised at these comments. The RNC doesn't have one idea on how they are going to get us out of the mess we are in in Iraq. They are not talking about renewable energy they are talking about drill, drill, drill. Listen folks the Reupblicans have had 12+ years to fix stuff and I got news for you they haven't. They have scammed us and lied to us repeatedly. Picking Sarah Palin was a cheap trick on getting Hillary Clinton voters to cross party lines and vote for the Republican ticket. I am a staunch Clinton supporter and I can tell you Sarah Palin doesn't hold a candle to HIllary Clinton. I saw Palin's speech and to me dissing Joe BIden was like Randy Moss Dissing Jerry Rice. How can the RNC claim that Palin has made more executive decisions than Joe BIden /Obama. Joe Biden has been in congress for since Palin was in grade school. I find it truly insulting that John McCain can go out and pick a woman and place her on his ticket thinking he can win a females vote just because she is a female. I was voting for Hillary because of her ideas who she is and what she ahas already done to help women and children, not because she was a female. On the Russia /Georgia issue how is that any different than what the neo cons have done in Iraq. We are being hypocrites. Bush and Cheney have painted us in this corner now. Hey I have respect for McCain but I am not going to give the republicans another four years to screw us more. There total premise is trickle down well I haven't seen it and I am not looking for a hand out. Bush, Cheney , McCain aren't worried about who fills there tank with gas or how they are going to pay thier bills or buy food to feed there family and how they are going to to to the doctor if they get sick. Country FIrst my A#! Its the RIch first and you low life middle class lower income people can fend for yourselves cause if you wanted you could do better right. I've enough of that baloney. The republicans our the meanest lowlife jerks ever all they can do is spout hate, Jesus and the military. You may not socialism but I don't want a theocracy either. The only reason Palin, and most Alaskans for that matter, want to drill in Alaska is for revenues. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with oil independence. We will never be oil independent (Unless we steal Iran's oil as well). Certainly that is the intent of the Republican party. I say we should use up as much as the world's supply as possible. One day that oil we have in the ground in Alaska will be even more valuable.

menEveryone seems to be missing the big issue here. I know who Sarah Palin is and what she represents. Do I agree with everything NO. I also do not agree with everything that John McCain stands for. Be I cannot deny that John McCain is a great American that loves and fought, as many Americans have to preserve this countries freedom. Keep in mind that none of us have been drug from our homes and executed for speaking our minds or prosecuted for burning our flag. It is sad to see our young American youth being misguided by someone that has never served a day to defend this nation. Or, all the pro-choice women that think that the worse thing that could happen would be not to have a choice. When this great Nation is over run with socialism and communism, you will all look back and wish you had done your homework. Obama is a product of communistic views and Michelle is as militant as they come. Read, Read. Read Michelles thesis read Obamas books. Research. Here is just one article that should scare the hell out of any man of reason or intelligents. If you search you will find much more. And if by any chance any of you have read Obama's book. The man Frank that he refers to as his mentor, Is a Stalinist. You do not align yourself with these types of people if you in fact do not share their views. And lets not ever forget 20 years of Reverent Wright. Here is just one article copied from the internet.

Obama–Ayers controversy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Controversy over an Obama–Ayers connection)
Jump to: navigation, search
The Obama–Ayers controversy arose during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign regarding Presidential candidate Barack Obama's contact with Bill Ayers, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a former leader of the Weather Underground.[1] His position as a professor led to him serving on two nonprofit boards with Barack Obama, who lived in the same neighborhood. Both Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, hosted a small campaign meeting for Obama at their home in 1995.[2] The matter was covered by news organizations and brought up by the campaign of competing candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton in February 2008, revisited during a debate between Clinton and Obama in April 2008, then subsequently picked up by Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an issue in the general election campaign. Obama condemned Ayers' past through a spokesman,[3] and stated he does not have a close association with Ayers.[2]-

Obama is a racist. How much proof do you need? His 20 years with Rev. Wright or maybe read his books and see it in his own words. SMART AND MORAL PEOPLE WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR HIM ON THIS REASON ALONE. I mean let's look at the reasons somebody would...
Reply
1. You are not White and so racism against Whites is okay (Dumba$$ racism is racism do not try to feed me the double standard)
2. You are so liberal that you do not care. (So your views are that important..who the F are you)?
3. You feel that things have been so bad the last 8 years that you will not vote Republican. (During the Depression in Germany they co-elected Hitler even though the Nazi party's racist ideaology was well known.)
Look I am not a big McCain guy but I would never vote for any candidate that was racist. It goes against the very idea of what we are supposed to be as Americans. Since the only real chance to beat Obama is McCain, he will get my vote. At least he does not subscribe to White liberation theology.-

Where did Rev. Wright advocate the murder of whites? Where did he advocate stopping whites from going to school, hospitals or into the military. Jesus said that when he comes back he will say depart from me those who did not feed, clothe and shelter the least of these. Rev. Wright has clothed, sheltered, fed and visited the least of these. Many young people in his congregation have joined the military so how is he anti-American.
Reply
He has sent many to school and helped those getting out of prison go back to school and find work. He takes care of the elderly also. IT has only been white people who have bombed government buildings, abortion clinics and black churches in recent years to my memory. So who has committed racist behavior? It seems that racism for whites is blacks talking about racism, but for blacks it is committing racist behavior.-

Hey peteygreen thanks for admitting your racism. You will be voting for Obama for the #1 reason I mentioned. let me clear your thining up......
Reply
1.Nobody said Rev. Wright never did anything good but that does not excuse the blatant Anti-semetic remarks he says and believes.
2. It appears you have a selective memory. Most crimes against Black Americans are committed by other Black Americans and Black Americans can be just as bad as White ones, or do you not remember the DC sniper. I like how you take a few evil White guys and apply it to the whole race (thats what racism is)
3. You have your last point backwords. A Black man can say things about White people that Whites could never say. (At least on the West or Eaast Coast) Commedians like Chris Rock and Paul Mooney can say stuff that would end the career of a White commedian.
Look, I think Paul Mooney and Chris Rock are both funny, and if you reread my blog I am against racism from all sides. But if we are serious as a nation to ever try to bridge the gap, then everyone must hold their own race equally accountable.

I have read some off the wall blogs but some of you need to calm down. Wjo cares what Jon Voight says he couldn't keep his own family together so who is he to cpomment on naivety. While some of you are bashing his daughter have you ever wondered why she hates him and what he did to deserve her feelings? As for Oalin's qualifications let's count them. 1) mayor of a town of 8,000 and Governor of a state of less than 700,000 ready to be VP or possibly President, I don't think so. Many of you jumping up and down about her qualifications probably have more people living within a mile of you than she has governed and those she has governed aren't too fond of her since electing her. While we are at it look at all the hypocritical conservatives who before her selection were busy condeming premarital sex, and conceiving babies out of wedlock. I guess that was fine as long as it wasn't one of theirs now they are being forced to put on a good face for the party. Maybe if she were a Democrat their true colors would come back out. I think most of his detractors complaints are people flock to him where ever he goes and we are to use to and comfortable being hated to accept someone who isn't. I will take love over hate any day try it you might like it.

Hey big brother because of hearing a few sermons does not make the hearer a racist. You cannot cite one rasist comment uttered by Obama. I am sure in your grow you associated with people who either disliked other groups such as gays, blacks, spanish people, jews, orientals etc. and that didn't classify you as a hater or racist or does it? Do not paint Obama with the same brush as the pastor. I have heard some of his sermons and they were not racist. In fact even the one damning America wass not as offensive as it has been made out to be. Maybe if you listened to the whole sermon you could draw what he was saying. But to each their own. While you are condeming Obama for sitting 20 years listening to Rev. Wright what do you have to say about Gov. Palins pastor comdeming people to hell for voting for Kerry or Gore as well as antisemetic remarks. Gov. Palin was tthere listening since she was 12 and only changed recently when she decided to run for Governor? HMMM?

My wife is Hispanic first generation. I have had to deal with racism first hand so do not pre-judge me. (prejudice). I'll tell you what I will RELISTEN to Rev. Wright if you read Sen. Obamas 2 books. I have to agree with you that Mr. Obama seems alarmingly racist, but I'm also quite concerned that if he is elected, he will not be a supporter of Israel either. That, and his radical support of abortion (where a FULL TERM baby that survives an abortion can be left to starve to death) make me extremely uneasy. It's a bit ironic that the president whose character he most resembles, is also not a friend of Israel...Jimmy Carter. He also promised change. I even voted for him. I agree wholeheartedly with those here who want to keep the campaign centered on issues.

Getting back to the topic at hand, the fact that Jon Voigt was a liberal at one time and has since become a conservative should lead people to ask why....and the fact that his daughter was raised by her mother (I think in France?) has much to do with their alienation. I hope they can have a reconciliation.

Voight was right, what Obama and Pelosi want is socialism. But not true socialism. Then want socialism just for the average Joe. Do you think either of them will sell their million dollar homes, move into 40K homes and disperse their money among the people. Don't bet on it. They want you to do it. They want to insititue more and more programs, and they say they will pay for it with higher taxes on the rich. Well don't you believe for a minute that the middle class won't have to pay for these programs. We will, and we won't be eligible for the programs. So the only change you will have is the few pennies left in your pocket when they are done with you. Obama has a half brother in Africa, he is dirt poor. Why has Obama not sent him some money to improve his standard of living. He can afford to do that. The Obama's made 1 million dollars last year. I don't think it would take all that much to improve his brother's quality of life. But then again, maybe one of his programs will be designed to help his brother so that it doesn't have to come out of Obama's pocket.

After reading most, if not all of these comments, I am sure of one thing above all else. We have not lost our "passion" in our beliefs in this country. That's important when you stop and think about it.
Reply
Just my opinion here but this very passion may save us one day and I hope we never lose it. Debate and free speech is also a wonderful thing to have and to be able to use it is a freedom some people will never have the experience of knowing.
As for the Politicians, my opinion ( which is worthless but makes me feel better) is that most of us have simply lost faith in our government and the people who represent it's interests. Why? Because they abuse ( on a regular basis) their powers, which we gave them along with our trust. After a while, we begin to think " what's the use?" we cannot trust anyone and they all lie. So many, too many, bring scandal to their office and this country and they do it by standing erect, shoulders squared back and say right to our faces that they haven't done anything wrong. Even through all this deceit, we don't give up, don't give in and still fight for what we believe in, though we rarely get it. It is the PEOPLE who can evoke change, when we have had enough to do something constructive about it. There are too many "Old Dinosauers" in office and we do need change but who do we trust anymore? Perhaps a start would be to "clean house" and let them know we aren't going to take this abuse any longer. Write letters to our Senators, Governors, Congressmen and women, everyone we can possibly write to and do it in great NUMBERS and keep doing it. When they finally get the idea that they will be kicked out, not voted for again, that we have had enough of this horrible abuse of power and all the lies, then, just maybe, we can bring about a change for the better. It's the only thing I can think of that the day to day working people can do easily, inexpensively and in numbers that cannot be ignored. So, pick up a pen and start writing to voice your complaints. I am going to do that now and hopefully you will follow suit. I'll feel better for doing it and I know you will to. The price of a stamp. I can afford that. -

Yahoo! Finally a trailer trash candidate that we can relate to. She was magnificent reading that script off the teleprompter.Lots of folks from Wasilla are not up to that. I read somewhere that the average education of Wasilla's middle school parent's was like 10th grade? Crazy right! So you can see right away that she's head & shoulders above that crew. I was thrilled when she debunked that dinosaur theory that's starting to rear it's ugly head once again. And the new baby. Just awesome. He's still a newborn & doesn't do too much other than the regular eat, sleep & s--t thing, but awesome is just a starting point. And how about the way she stood up for her sister. It's a good thing she's Governor so she can get rid of that bum as soon as possible. I applaud her stand on going after more oil also. I don't see the point in conserving for the kids. They should make it on their own just like everybody else. The only thing that puzzled me was that her husband belonged to a union. What's up with that? Maybe he joined up when he was younger or something. Probably all about money. Reeks of pink if you know what I mean. Anyway she's exactly what this country needs. A red blooded, fire breathing warrior with the Lord by her side. I'm looking forward to goin to war where ever we have to. And, if, God forbid I get wounded or something I know I'll have the best care possible when I get back home to the V.A. hospital.

Obama's already said he was going to wave the white flag. To be "accepted" in Hollywood you must be politically correct, and Jon Voight has alway's been an independent thinker. It is nice to see America's #1 Daddy tell us about AMerican values. Here is an actor who left his 2 kids and their mother and never looked back until they were teenagers.

His daughter became a heroine user and used to cut herself because of depression and LACK of his presence in her life.
Imagine Marcheline Bertrand had to suffer to make ends meet while this man paraded around Hollywood.
John Voight is a perfect example of Republican values, along with Rudy Giuiliani who cheated on his wife with Judith Whateverhername is... The same Rudy G. whose kids hate his guts - so much so that his daughter was supporting Obama on her MySpace page while he was running for office.
And who can forget the #1 values Princess who through her pregnant high school dropout 17 year old in the limelight with her equally high school dropout baby daddy that they paid to get that stupid tatoo and to cut his "trademark redneck mullet"!

Who in the samhill does Voight think he is anyway. His own daughter has nothing to do with him. My husband was in the airforce with him and all voight wanted to do was drink and have lots of women with him. So KEEP YOU DUMB COMMENTS TO YOUR SELF, YOU TWO-TIMING FLOOR FLUSHER, a HOLE.

WOW...please wake up here..the one and only reason that Palin was chosen for VP is because Hillary Clinton ran and was unbelievably popular...if it were not for the fact that she was neck and neck with Obama and lost and for the fact that so so so many democrats and Women are angry at the fact that she is not the nominee...there is NO way in the world that John McCain and his party would have ever chosen this women or ANY women for that matter to be a vice president...As far as her speech I found her arrogant, classless, uninformed and really rough around the edges....I am not impressed with any of the candidates..very sad

This is for all you empty suits who say John McCain isn't a war hero. When was the last time that you strapped yourself into a fighter jet and went on a mission over enemy territory? You people disgust me. Did you ever take an oath of office to protect and defend the Contitution of the United States? I DID AND SO DID MCCAIN! I spent a year with the 1st Marines in Vietrnam. What in the hell did you, or that empty suit Barack Hussein OBama ever do for your country, except to milk it for all you could get. He's a loser and if he wins the election, we will all end up losers.

Yes there is a wide gap between the haves, and have nots, but none of it is government related. In fact the people who feed at the public expense,in most cases are the haves.A majority of the people who are criticized for being the have's are beating their brains out every day just to get by.Poverty today is mostly self imposed. Most single moms didn't get pregnant by them selves. The scum who participated are busy making new baby's on the other side of town. One thing we all should take a look at,we lament every day about the job losses across this nation currently about eight hundred thousand, now think about this we have in excess of seven million illegals in the work place.
