Fact Check of Governor Palin's Speech
....
PALIN: "It was the spirit that brought me to the governor's office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau … when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good-ol' boys network."
REALITY: PALIN HAS A LT. GOVERNOR WHO IS A FORMER OIL LOBBYIST, HIRED WASILLA'S FIRST FEDERAL LOBBYIST (A FORMER STEVENS STAFFER) & HAD THE SUPPORT OF ENTRENCHED ALASKA POLITICIANS DURING HER 2006 RACE.
Palin's Oil & Gas Appointee Is Former Lobbyist for TransCanada. "Marty Rutherford, who leads Gov. Sarah Palin's gas pipeline team, made $40,200 in 2003 while consulting in Juneau for a pipeline subsidiary of TransCanada. TransCanada is one of the companies bidding for a state license to build a pipeline to carry gas to market from Alaska's North Slope. It's not a disqualifier, but the past connection deserves a second thought." [Anchorage Daily News editorial, 12/15/07]
Palin "Counting on Her Lieutenant Governor Candidate… Former Oil Lobbyist" to Help Win Oil Industry Support. "The defiantly grass-roots nature of the campaign may have distanced her from certain traditional centers of power in Alaska. The oil industry is one -- but the campaign says it is counting on her lieutenant governor candidate, Parnell, a former oil lobbyist and legislator, to help there." [Anchorage Daily News, 10/24/06]
Palin's Former Chief of Staff is Stevens' Campaign Manager. "Monegan says pressure came from those around Palin, including former Palin chief-of-staff Mike Tibbles, Department of Administration Commissioner Annette Kreitzer, and director of boards and commissions Frank Bailey. Tibbles, who is now the campaign manager for Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, said Friday he couldn't comment on whether he spoke to Monegan about Wooten." [Anchorage Daily, 7/19/08] -

Everybody needs to stop trying to figure out who going to do what and look at the situation we as a people are in right now. For 8 years the eoncomy has been going down. Washington is not for the people. There for themselves. Who can out do each other. McCain/Palin all they have done is talk about what Obama can't or have not done. We need to here specifics about what the republicans are going to do. I am so tired of our leaders using tactics just to get in. Get in on your own merit. If you dig one ditch for someone to fall in you better dig two. Because the trrap you set for some else just may be for you.

So people look at the way this country is. No other country respect the USA anymore. We are so busy trying to put each other down that it is sickening. If we don't come together as a people of this country and quit looking at race, we are going to be in a world of trouble more so than ever.
I am so tired of this. When Clinton was in office, things ran so smooth for 8 years. And look at us now under the republicans, can't even buy grocery without thinking about if I have enought to get gas to go to work.
McCain is a joke and so is Palin. How is it that he talked about Obama being young and inexperience. Then he turn around a picked the very thing he was against for his running mate. Talk about man unstable in his way. what you think he's going to do when he gets in office. Don't know which way to go.

McCain doesn't care about rancor. He cares about dissenting opinions that upset him and his candidacy. There would be no fire there if there was no fuel. This is just a political ploy to shift the platform of presidential politics away from issues and onto personalities. The majority of Americans already know that the republican party can't win on issues, so, according to McCain & Co, there are no "issues" only "personalities' - this after McCain denouced Obama for being a "celebrity". So apparently, by his own choice of words, McCain wants us to believe there are neither issues nor personalities. Why then is there even a presidential race if there is nothing to contend? This two prong attack is totally Nihilistic - not very RW or evangelical by any stretch of the imagination - and not the thing Americans need to hear from anyone, at any time, for any reason.
Reply
Against what appears to be his own personal judgement, McCain is forced into this dark corner because he has chosen to lockstep with the party as opposed to dealing with the many disasters the Republicans have created both domestically and abroad - American issues - not party ones. But, Obama himself is obviously reluctant to take the real issues as far as they could be taken - and has backed away from some of the positions that many would welcomed back into the fold of political discourse. Now he is just luke warm - which I suppose is better than a stone cold McCain - but still less than satisfactory IMHO,
I don't believe that those who are in real charge of either party are unaware of the real depth these much avoided issues plum and it suits both to evade them because any coherent exercise in frank debate like the ones Ron Paul delivered exposes both parties as co partners in a multitude of lies, coverups, and debatable policy interests.
If you want to follow the false front leitmotif we are being fed all the way down the line without questioning what either side is really saying, or if you decide by your emotions that one side sings a better tune than the other, then you're too tone deaf to deal effectively with the real meaning of their combined rhetoric and any mantra you decide to sing will not be the truthful one, just another counterfeit to cover for a counterfeit political culture built on stacks of lies and deceptions. If America has lost her moral compass and her soul it is because realistic discussion is now counterproductive to the direction the monopolistic post WWII state has declared for itself - not what we the people have declared for it. I can't stop that ship from continuing on its inertial course - but I can get to the top of the crow''s nest and point out that direction to others. Soon such things will be a crime if we continue on our present journey. In fact, with the arrest of prospective dissenters and journalists in actual attendance at the RNC thought crime is now upon us even as habeas corpus languishes in exile. -

Communities are not destroyed by parties, but by individuals. If Welfare Reform is bad, why is it wrong to teach someone respect for themselves instead of having government give them a free ride? The problem with the Democrats is they believe free rides mean more votes. COUNTRY FIRST.

that was what he did when he finished Harvard...you arrogant little monster...he has never stated that his 3 years of work when he was just out of college qualifies him to be President...how ignorant are you, or how ignorant do you perceive Americans to be...you seem to leave out his position of editor of THE Harvard Law Review, I think Sarah Palin has a BA in journalism with high hopes to be on ESPN...noble indeed...he did the 3 years helping poor people in the slums of Chicago when he could have been making a mint, helping mostly people who had been laid of from the local steel plant. Obviously then going on to become State Senator for 7 years in 1997, he was in elected office before Hillary was..I think Palin had just won In Wassila with a whopping 650 votes for mayor. Then he became a US senator where he been for almost 3 years, where contrary to republicans passed BIPARTISAN legislation dealing with ethics reform, nuclear nonproliferation, veterans health care, transparency in govt contracts, children s health care, various educational issues, and much more, a simple google search will enlighten any republican of his accomplishments. Sarah palin is an empty skirt, a puppet a joke really, Sen. Barack Obama on the other hand is someone I feel has my best interests in mind and has the intelligence, and the judgment to properly navigate the times and make improvements on American governmental systems and ultimately American's lives, I trust his to create jobs, and improve world standing and security, I think McCain is too reckless and ideological and too ambitious with too many "scores" to settle to get anything meaningful done, especially now with Palin.

Hopefully, the American people saw through Palin's attempted comparison between her job as mayor and the O'Bamas work on the South Side of Chicago. Has anyone visited there lately? There is much to be done, but evidence of the work they accomplished there is real. Chicago is proud of its neighborhood communities, and collectively the neighborhoods build Chicago. Michelle Obama was instrumental too in building a network of "Public Allies," to reduce crime and unemployment. (http://www.barackobama.com/learn)

Talk about grasping at straws! She wasn't belittling "community organizers" but was simply showing that being one does not qualify someone for the presidency and that the responsibilities of such a job are actually less in general than that of a small town mayor. Remember the context - Obama ridiculed her credentials by attacking her previous position as a small town mayor (completely ignoring the fact that she's governor of the largest state, the biggest oil producer and the only one that borders two foreign nations) while his executive resume consists of "community organizer" and chairing the Woods Fund on which domestic terrorist Bill Ayers served. It is akin to being a fry cook at Del Taco and ridiculing the cook at Denny's for trying to get a job as the assistant chef at Spago while maintaining that your experience at Del Taco qualifies you to be Spago's head chef.

What she said was that a community organizer doesn't have any "real responsibilities". So yes, this IS insulting. Obama managed a staff of 13 and a budget of $400,000 as director of the Developing Communities Project. That may be small potatoes compared to being Governor, but that doesn't make Palin's comment any less belittling.

The simple fact
Reply
For too many years now, the conservative right of America has been running on 'the simple facts', - falsehoods that turned war into peace, cowards into patriots, neglect into governance, theft into business.
When faced with complex issues, the right found a simple lie; and defended it with flag and bible and color-coded terror levels.
But like deficit spending, Jose, truth-deficits catches up with you eventualy.
The Republican party has become a crowd of babbling fools, cheering how they will bring change, - to the policies they still support; cheering how they are outsiders, - in their own regime.
McCain; rebelling against his own 25 years of service!
Modern 'rightists' label anyone who wants to bring real competition back to America, as 'socialists'.
Of course Obama is no socialist; he is a harvard lawyer who has made a fortune on his own efforts, and wants to see others have that same chance. Capitalism.
Because such people as Obama are the real capitalists, Jose; and that should frighten the hell out of people who don't work for a living, -

let me let you in on a secret. McCain is NOT Bush. by definition, whatever he does will be different.
since congress went blue, no pub congressperson can be accused of running the regime. Reid and Pelosi have already shown their incompetence. after two years, its time for them to go.
real competition to america? wtf? the only competition that O stands for is how he's going to compete for the income of Big Oil, the wealthy and the small business owner, all in the name of 'fairness'. whatever that means.
robin hood was a socialist. and so is O. there's no two ways to slice it. raising taxes and redistribution of wealth at Gov't whim IS socialism.
if he were a real capitalist, he'd craft tax and fiscal policy to favor investment, not take the money for the Gov'ts hare brained purposes.

"In theory, community organizing provides a way to merge various strategies for neighborhood empowerment. Organizing begins with the premise that (1) the problems facing inner-city communities do not result from a lack of effective solutions, but from a lack of power to implement these solutions; (2) that the only way for communities to build long-term power is by organizing people and money around a common vision; and (3) that a viable organization can only be achieved if a broadly based indigenous leadership — and not one or two charismatic leaders — can knit together the diverse interests of their local institutions."
Reply
"This means bringing together churches, block clubs, parent groups and any other institutions in a given community to pay dues, hire organizers, conduct research, develop leadership, hold rallies and education campaigns, and begin drawing up plans on a whole range of issues — jobs, education, crime, etc. Once such a vehicle is formed, it holds the power to make politicians, agencies and corporations more responsive to community needs. Equally important, it enables people to break their crippling isolation from each other, to reshape their mutual values and expectations and rediscover the possibilities of acting collaboratively — the prerequisites of any successful self-help initiative."
I would argue that this type of experience would be very beneficial to any candidate for public office, even the presidency. -

community organizers are often volunteers. i thought conservatives were all about volunteerism. community organizers sometimes work for non-profit institutions for low pay and minimal benefits; often these non-profit institutions are church-based. i thought conservatives were enthusiastic supporters of faith-based activism. sometimes community organizers are paid for by grants paid for by corporations, public social institutions, private foundations and even neighborhood associations.
Reply
the bottom line is that community organizers help communities to become more self-sufficient by addressing the specific needs of that particular community. i thought republicans were all about self-sufficiency.
becoming a community organizer is a calling, not a job. generally the individual sacrifices a gracious standard of living and top dollar earnings to help others. considering all this, how can some of you snipe about anyone involved in such noble causes?-

amazed10 months ago
it is not that we are against volunteer work, it just is kind of funny that that is all Obama could come up with for executive experience -- while he's trashing Palin for being a small town mayor and the governor of Alaska. I will admit that Palin's experience is a bit thin, if any of you Obama supporters will do the same...
Reply
yeah, I didn't think so.
As far as "how can you snipe about anyone involved in such noble causes?" that can go right back to so many of you on the left.
How dare the party who claims to be all about equal rights and equal opportunity for women (and minorities) snipe at a women for having both a family and a career?
How dare the party who claims to be all about the "common man" and the "working class" snipe at someone for going to a state university rather than an Ivy League school?
How dare those who are appalled at the thought of anyone even suggesting to teens that they are not ready for sex and insisting that there are no morals or right or wrong about sex outside of marriage attack this woman for having an unmarried pregnant daughter?
How dare this party, who always claims to be the party of the poor and downtrodden, imply that her unmarried, pregnant daughter makes her low -class and somehow unworthy?
Perhaps the values (or more precisely the lack of them) that you have foisted upon society over the past thirty years contributed to the kid not listening to what she was taught at home.
