Why the Media Should Apologize for Writing About Sarah Palin »
Posted By hsaleem 10 months ago in NewsOn behalf of the media, I would like to say we are sorry. We have asked mean questions like: How well did McCain know Palin before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? It is not our job to ask questions.

She inherited a city with zero debt but left it with indebtedness of more than $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? Or a new library? No. $1 million for a park. $15 million-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex, which she rushed through, on a piece of property that the city didn't even have clear title to. That was still in litigation seven years later — to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5 million for road projects that could have been done in five to seven years without any borrowing.
I had read that before mntn, it's a very telling article about Palin by someone who has known her since childhood. -

Interesting link. Nothing really shocking here, she sounds like a typical Republican. Reminds me of the conservatives in my state thousands of miles from Alaska. They built all these large and elaborate new schools then promptly sought to cut the tax base to fund them.
Reply
It is simple not logical to operate in this way. A business run in such a manner would have the doors quickly padlocked. But debt and deficit spending seem to be completely acceptable to these politicians. It's kind of like a compulsive shopper with a credit card. They have cash in the bank but instead accumulate huge interest fees. That cash then quickly evaporates paying the accrued interest and not the principle. This is exactly the situation we now find ourselves in at the federal level. Criticize the Dems for excessive spending and taxes if you like but realize the last Democratic President left office with a surplus of nearly 600 Billion! At least they fund what they spend! -

Every time you libs have a story posted you refer to this article by a woman who hates Palin. When was the last time she lived in Alaska????

Anne Kilkenny, an Obama supporter, currently running for office.......and it appears Mrs Kilkenny has a personal issue with Governor Palin of course the likes of Daily KOS & Huff are still digging as I guess they do not feel Governor Palin has been properly veted yet but think it just fine their candidate of choice has gotten a free pass on everything but his standard fare " he is not the __________ I used to know"
"Informed voter" or antagonistic party activist? At least as far back as 2004, she donated money to Democrats.
No doubt that email is starting to spread and will be considered the Rosetta Stone of Palin as trumpeted from the Democrats. Buyer beware. -

This thread about McCain's speech needs more attention.
BTW it's not mine and I don't know the poster, but they were first off the blocks with it, let's prove you don't have to be popular to get on the front page. -

I've also seen other Alaskans who know her, including the current encumbent in her previous job, say she's sharp and effective and a good choice. She is obviously intelligent, no-nonsense and high-energy, and she has strong convictions (some I disagree with).
Reply
I know she's made some mistakes, too, but her overall record seems quite good. I really don't care for Biden, but I like both Obama and McCain. I think both tickets are strong, and I'm not at all worried if Palin is the new V.P. I'm actually more concerned about Obama's positions. If Obama's elected, I hope we give him a republican congress to work with (and I hope we keep a democratic congress if McCain is elected).

"Sarah Palin hit the nail on the head Wednesday night (and several in the audience wish she had hit some reporters on the head instead) when she said: “I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.”-

I don't think anyone has to apologize. Especially after not hearing any thing about how she will fix the following problems:
Reply
. $ at all time low
. foreclosures killing communities and families
. job losses and lay offs huring bread winners
. gas prices at all time high
. food prices out of control
, $trillions owed to China in borrowings. How to pay off?
. $billions in surplus in 2000 is now $trillion in deficits. Who will fix it?
. Iraq invasion, destruction and occupation was ordered by GOD.
. 40 million people without any health insurance.
. seniors filing for bankruptcy unable to afford health care & medicines.
All I heard was that Obama is not qualified because he was just a community organizer helping people who had lost their jobs and a US senator.-

airglide10 months ago
And all this with a democrat congress. Obama wants to raise taxes which would exacerbate the problems. Obama has 30 years experience running off at the mouth. Palin has 2 years of actually running a government.

what it comes down to:

Obama is a great orator but he doesn't vote pro or con, he just votes present. A do-nothing candidate.
Obama has Billions of union dollars paying for ads for his candidacy.
McCain definitely not a great orator, but he acts, he walks the talk.
McCain has the government stipend for a candidate.

The media shouldn't apologize about $hit. Listen, if you're going to put yourself in the public sphere, then you should know what you're going to put you family through. Don't fund programs for pregnant teens if yours gets knocked up. Don't say you're fighting corruption if you fire a dude because he DTB'D your sister. If you don't want that $hit to come out then don't get into national politics

Complaining about the media by someone who parades her family, complete with troubles, in front of that media? That's rich.
Reply
If my kids had those kinds of problems, I would try to protect them as much as possible. I would NOT be exposing them to national TV, especially if I was running for high office. She will not have SS protection if McCain looses. There are a lot of crazy, sick people out there, and now they know what everyone in her family looks like. I pray she and hers will remain safe, but I question her judgment.

The Republicans are offering nothing to change the course of this nation. Only smear and rhetoric. McCain will be just a continuation of Bush's failed policies. And now they are trying to push this extreme right wing hockey mom on us who is totally out of step with the rest of America.

Does everybody get it now? It's the press' job to ask tough questions, especially uncomfortable ones, and prick the ballooning egos and questionable assertions of the powerful and influential. That's why it's actually a right spelled out in the 1st Amendment. It's important, vital. Otherwise, we could all just get our news via e-mails directly from the RNC and DNC and dispense with democracy altogether.

Listen, Palin is by far is the freshest breath air.and as much as I like her,I don't want to see her name on every sheet paper I see, nor do I want see her likeness on the TV screen every time I turn it on..When I'm driving down the highway along side a big truck ,the sound from the tires,I hear OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA.I fear if he's elected,it wil only get worse when has to go to the toilet a camera and ,a news man from the elite media will be right there with a play by play.Obama has enter to do what Obama must do ,we anticipate Obama is reaching for the door knob, but wait has Obama flushed, never Obama need not flush,I can do that.Right now we are worried about Obama ,the world is on hold waiting for Obama, and wouldn't you know Biden is on an amtrack train to nowhere

The media certainly shouldn't ask this woman anything...she is going to be VP and is above silly questions about issues and experience...she should be allowed to denigrate the service of others and no one should question her...It's ok that she thinks MLK had no responsibilities and that those who organized to win the right for her to vote were losers...just leave the woman alone, she was the mayor of a really small city for god's sake...and less people voted for her to be Governor of Alaska (115K) than voted for Biden in the Presidential election...even though the republicans lied and said that isn't the case...so what that she supported the bridge to nowhere, took the federal money and then was against it, who cares that she supported the Indicted Ted Stevens, and loves PORK and EARMARKS and LOBBYISTS, just not in her office, well now they are because they run her campaign, but again, lets not dwell in the details...remeber The republicans are in office now and held the Congress for most of the time, but we need change so obviously we elect the republican party again because then it will be, um, a change from what we have now...get it? And did you hear McCain, small government, less taxes, low regulations, he really means it, he's not like all the other republicans...and he really cares about me and my small business, who cares that our dollar is worthless, I'll get to keep more of my worthless money and spend it on gas! Listen enough is enough leave the poor lady alone!

This crap will go back and forth each and everyday before and after this election. With every failed attempted policy change we will hear I told you So from someone. I'm so tired of the process that I want to wash my hands of the entire thing, but i'm stuck with it.

This much I know. I refuse to support a party which has supported the absolute disaster, at their own admission, of the administration of the last 8 years. I think that is reason enough to say it is time for them to hit the road and let the others try.
We have no better solution. If you can't find anything about Joe Biden that's not more recent than law school grades to rag about, shut up. I want this country cleaned of what has happened in Washington under this administration.
Say what you want about the Clinton administration, this country was in a profitable stage and at peace. Someone tell me why we are saying anything else.
Please move on. She is so unqualified I look like a better candidate with my college education. The press should attack her as much as the Obama family hand bump got for how long. Get over it. You wanted to run for VP now live with it like everyone else has to. Ask Chelsey Clinton about attacking the children of candidates. She was treated terribly like the child of every child of a candidate put under a microscope. -

Sarah said in her speech "some members of the media" - I guess if the shoe fits - I personally saw bob beckel on Larry King Live saying terrible things... he asked "what kind of a mother is she" - she has been smeared by some members of the media - just as she stated.

I found the article condescending and rather insulting. The reason many of us are very mad at the media is the difference in coverage between the DNC and GOP. The only questions asked of Barrack were from guys like Hannity and Limbaugh. His resume is very weak. His short list of friends and associates included a convicted terrorist, a political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois convicted on several counts of fraud & bribery, and a racist minister he at first claimed was kind of like one of those "crazy uncles every family has". He's never really been called on the carpet by anyone from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or any of the other liberal media concerning them.
Reply
Palen on the other hand has been accused of wearing a fake pregnancy belt and hiding a child for her daughter. The fact that Bristol was pregnant wasn't really a secret. Many people in their hometown knew of this already, the press went all Ape Poopy. Then they came out that she fired a state or city employee for not doing his job. Then they brought up the brother in law that turned out to have tazered his own son, threatened his father-in-law and was charged with being drunk, passed out and on duty in his police car. That lead to Palin's husband being arrested for OWI. 22 years ago. Yesterday there was the claims of Sarah having an affair.
So lets see someone who associates with known felons, an unrepentant terrorist and a racist or report on a Palin. There is clear evidence of bias on the media's part. I would hope that when the McCain Palin ticket win, they remember those press rooms that attacked, lied and created stories over the next 60 days. It's one thing to be biased it's another to do the slam pieces they're doing. There are no rules on the White House press core. You really don't need to permit ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or the Times inside. Play fair now or don't play in the future at all.-

Those comments about Obamas ties to those people were hardly hidden from the public. It was hashed and rehashed and when the country lost interest or the majority thought it wasn't worth commenting on it wasn't any longer. I know I personally heard about the minister, and all the crooks a million times. Weren't you listening? Now it's her turn.

Obama has received more coverage than McCain, but he has also received more negative coverage than McCain. McCain still largely gets a 'pass' by the media. I haven't seen him get 'called on the carpet' for his adultery, his part in the Keating Five, his flip-flopping, his pandering to hate-filled ministers, or his cozy relationships with lobbyists and special interest groups.

Obama took plenty of heat over Wright-gate, bitter-gate, Muslim-gate, Ayers-gate, Resko-gate, etc...
I share the sentiments of many posters on this board: I have little tolerance for whining about smear tactics from the party that titles its political playbook 'Mud Slinging and You".

The meaning of the name Trygg is True, Faithful. it's a Scandinavian name and can be spelled several ways. I attend an old Scandinavian and that's not unusual.
