Ok...she's conservative. But ban books, books that are OK'd by the Alaskan Library Association? Why do that? What was she afraid of? Her children reading these books? If so, all Palin had to do was restrict what her children read, if that was her concern.

And then to send out resignation letters as a test of loyalty? This Palin is shaping up to be quite a piece of work.

Hopefully more people will read about this experience, and learn a lot about this governor from Alaska. The more they learn, the less likely she'll end up being a VP...

  Banning or censoring is not conservative or part of the conservative doctrine. It may be part of the republican platform, but then again, republicans are not conservative.
  
  Palin and family made a choice concerning Bristol. She also has a choice concerning the literature she wants to read or have in her home, just as every American should have that choice.
  
  Choice is conservative. The government making choices for you is not.

      wtagg makes a good point -- the party has been hijacked by religious extremists to the point that conservativism, in the true Republican sense, is now meaningless to the point of scary and quasi-fascist. before 2000, i used to be accused by my Dem friends as being a scary Republican and now all my Republican coworkers call me a traitor because i support mccain and absolutely abhor palin because she would use government to restrict freedom for others based upon her religious beliefs.
      
      palin is nothing more than a new gw bush: someone that a powerful hidden minority (that has hijacked our party) can install as president and manipulate to serve their own hidden agenda. call me paranoid, but i just think that the best people in america -- good christians in small towns making honest livings and loving their neighbors and living a moral life -- are being manipulated into voting for someone who shares their values but who can and will be manipulated to advance some other agenda that has absolutely no resemblance to conservative governing.
      
      palin is someone to be scared of, not because of who she is, but because of what a powerful faction behind the scenes can do through her if she has to take over for mccain: start wars, send jobs overseas, kowtow to foreign oil, kill the economy for the benefit of robber barons and keep us in a gilded age where there are only super rich and working/non-working poor.
      
      think about it. i'm not saying vote for obama, but i am saying we should take care to make sure we aren't being set up for 8 more years of the same.

  So it is ok for the Alaskan Library Association to ban books?
  This whole issue is just one of many "shots in the dark" taken by the liberal press. I would venture that almost everyone here in propeller belives it is ok to ban certain literature from public libraries. Or are there some in here who believe pornographic literature should be made available to minors?

        Read the article. No books were actually banned but she did several times inquire about removing books from the shelf.
        
        Palin claims it was a loyalty test. Just what we need, another administration that places loyalty above all else.

    I don't! I don't believe in censorship of any kind. I believe we should be allowed to walk nude in public, we then would have less rape and the porn industry would fail altogether. I am tired of nudity is bad but violence is AOK.

    If libraries carry pornographic literature (I have never lived in a town with a library that did) then I would think it would be placed in an adult section of the library, out of the hands of children, so children would never even see it.
    
    That makes sense, right?
