"You write as though it's perfectly okay to have a semi-automatic weapon lying around the house as long as the kids can't get their hands on a book about converting it to a fully automatic weapon."

How do you make the jump from getting a book at the library to leaving semi-autos lying around the house? The question was the ability for a child to get his/her hands on books that might not be good reading material.
