Congratulations on making the mental decision to begin your home organic farm experience.  When beginning the process of starting your home organic garden, significant planning needs to take place in order to expect optimal results for your garden.  Initially, you should decide what portion of your property area you will dedicate to your garden.   Most gardeners select somewhere in their backyard area.  Typically, if at all possible you want to consider what portion of your property catches the most sun light.  This may involve a few trips to the backyard during daylight hours in order that you may track the movement of the sun through the sky as it crosses your backyard area.  While tracking the movement and exposure of the sun, you should consider shadowing of trees and shadowing from your home and garage.  This is not always possible due to the various ways lots are typically landscaped.  Measure out an area and make a drawing of this area on a sheet of paper for records and later planning.  Keep in mind that the total area you select will determine how much of what you choose that you can grow.  Once your area has been selected you can begin determining what type of soil you have, preparing your soil for planting, and what you want to grow in your garden.
