  Women's rights are about helping women--not about seeing just any woman elected to high office. Look at what Palin stands for, and you'll see she stands AGAINST women's rights.

    Actually, women's rights can be summed up in one issue, abortion on demand, which ironically means many females are deprived of any chance of life, the most basic of rights.

        It has been often pointed out that Hilliary women voters will not go to Palin because Palin is Pro-life! Please elabroate on other women's issues. Does Palin believe there should not be a "glass ceiling"? Apparently so since she is trying to break what Hilliary and Geraldine cracked. Does she believe in equal pay? I don't know, but as a conseervative, I believe women who are doing the same job as men should be paid the same and are. If you do not believe this, please give me an example of a woman working along side a man in the same job with the same experience and tenure who is not making the same salary.
        Should women have the right to own guns? Palin believes so while most liberals believe women should not have that right as they believe men should not own guns either.
        I as a conservative believe dead-beat dads should be forced to pay child support for the children they fathered then abandoned. I don't know but would be surprised if Palin did not share this view as well.
        So I repeat, the only issue that seems to separate Palin from Hilliary voters is abortion.
        And please, can we not discuss this without meaningless insults that add nothing to the debate!

        Democrats believe women should not own guns? Better get control of that wild imagination of yours. The right to bear arms is in the Constitution and as a Constitutional lawyer, I 'm sure Barak Obama supports this right, for men and for women.

        All excellent points Raats, too bad many cons do not know where their own candidates stand on issues, they just feel that their candidate has the same goals and beliefs....sad.

        I found it a little unusual that you didn't seem to add any qualifications to your support for abortions. Most people will.
        
        A little episode: A few months ago, I had reason to talk with a nurse practioner in central IL sort of near me. In her practice, she was preparing to induce labor for a normal vaginal birth to a young woman who would be 6 months pregnant at the time. This woman, whose spouse was off in Iraq, had worked herself into a tizzy with fear of being poisoned to the extent that she was endangering both herself and the child's life. So the NP felt that the delivery was the best option. I questioned the timing, and she assured me that a six-month old fetus was cerainly viable outside the womb. OB-GYNs I've asked since then confirm this.
        
        I ask the following simply because you did not add any qualifiers: Would you support an woman's right to an abortion even if the developing fetus in question would be viable as a child outside the womb?
        
        Also, without meaning to impugn anyone, I was always taught that one is responsible for one's actions and the consequences thereof. I'm inferring from your words that you do not believe that this applies with respect to sex and abortion. On the assumption that there are other areas in which it does not apply, how do the rest of us avoid you? I have no great desire to e.g. be assulted with a frozen salmon--paticularly if the fish-bearer doesn't feel responsible for the consequences.

        I just support sex ed, especially for teens, and the distribution of birth control methods. I want to see condoms flying around every where teens hang around...McCain/Palin are going to get an o.r.g.a.s.m.i.c

        And, responsible sex will lead to less AIDS cases....
        
        My mother owns a Preschool. She also has an after school program for Elementary School children and works closely with 3 Elementary Schools in our area. It's almost scary, how early young children, exposed to the media, start to be curious about sex and the physical aspects of it.
        Curiosity, coupled with peer pressure, makes it very critical that young teens get the sex education they need early on, and have access to safe birth control methods when abstinence doesn't work.

    It could well be pointed out that the rationale works the same the other way. There are large numbers of people who reflexively oppose capital punishment who cheerfully support an almost unlimited right to abortion. That seems just as contradictory to me.
    
    There are more than a few contradictory positions that people hold if you sit down and think about it for a while. That doesn't make these people evil or hypocritical--for the most part I find them to be sincere and well-meaning.
    
    I get kind of bemused by the political dynamic that seems to have developed. If the "other guys" are evil incarnate, then everything they hold has to be completely wrong; and if everything they hold is completely wrong, then we're doing the right thing by always taking the exact opposite position.
    
    Forget the possibility that neither of those positions in the larger scheme of things may be "right" (maybe effective is a better word).
    
    Consider the possibility that both "liberals" (whatever they are) and "conservatives" (whatever they are) both have something worthwhile to add to the mix.
