How can you take it seriously though - even if you're really Johnathan B. McCain?
Strikes me that a good-looking guy like this must be making out like a bandit with partners who want to be able to boast that they slept with John McCain - and conversely his namesake's reputation will be taking a hit in some quarters - but perhaps rising to the occasion in others.. -

I think he should use his name for a better dinner reservations though.
Maybe he wouldn't mind doing an ad for Obama with a voiceover-- "I'm John McCain and I approve this message." ( For those not in the states, we are bombarded with TV ads for McCain that claim blatant lies about Obama, -That he will raise your taxes (well if your in the top 5% INCOME BRACKET, yes otherwise no. That he has never submitted a balanced budget (um, neither has McCain; President's submit, congress votes, that democrats will tax and spend - um, this has been the GOP slogan for 50 years at least and perhaps at one time there was a grain of truth to it, but Reagan doubled the deficit, and Bush's fiscal irresponsibility is incalculable. The only balanced budget in 60 years was Bill Clinton's- how does government raise money to pay for Bush's spending again? Oh taxes right, so taxes are not taxes if they are wasted on corporate welfare, cronies, Haliburton, invading countries on a whim, etc. they are only taxes if spent on domestic infrastructure or feeding starving kids or some such nonsense, or if we can borrow money from, say, China till we are safely out of office and can blame some other schmuck ...) followed by "I'm John McCain and I approved this message....-

I'm still trying to work out when the best time is to post with this new propeller - my 6 hour time difference from the East Coast does frequently give me a head start - or I catch people like tc and berkeley while they're still up.
To be honest when I lived in the US I didn't participate practically in politics because I didn't have a vote till the very end of my time there and there were "social issues" during the time that I lived in NYC which seemed to supercede party politics anyway. This was the mid 80's and I lived in a warehouse/artists loft district, between the Bowery and Broadway. What we faced daily - and nightly was the bizarre confluence of crack madness and yuppie madness, a police force which was stretched beyond having any interest that crackheads were rattling every dooorknob on the block in case it might yield entrance to anything that wasn't nailed down, or lurking - sometimes inside - places where cash machines were shining and glistening. Meanwhile the same pavements were also full of "high-flying" yuppies - frequently snorters - waiting for the proper choice table in the trendy eatery du jour. I was featured in an article in NY magazine called "Fighting Back Against Crack" because I refused to tolerate the crackhead crowd on the block and moved them on - and OFF THE BLOCK - at whatever time of the day and night..
Practical politics or do-it-yourself law enforcement?
Even in the magazine article it was mentioned that I was about to escape for sylvan VT and I never ran into crack again though no doubt it was there somewhere too.
The weird thing is though that the EXTREMES have polarised even way beyond the limits of that period and the what optimism there was at that time has been disappointed, frustrated and virtually extinguished. And the polarities have widened even further with an ever-diminishing rump of ever richer individuals and an ever increasing and widening people who through no fault whatsoever of their own and due to circumstances beyond their control - in particular lay-offs or health catastrophes are up against insuperable odds.
Andthose who are still getting wealthier act like Nero imitations, fiddling while Rome burns and the dollar is now almost like play-money for us poor deprived post-Communist Central Europeans, who are expected to bear the brunt of protecting the US against the Russians with our missile-shield while the US baits the bear from every side..
Disjointed jottings - my apologies for lack of structure but a very important date with lunch is calling and my better half is already out-of-the-door!
