Obama Admits He Is A Secret Muslim, Or Not, You Judge »
Posted By JaimieM 1 year, 2 months ago in NewsThis is not proof of anything other than a gaffe, but it is interesting that he would make such a gaffe. Freudian slip? Or a tired candidate making a verbal slipup?

This is neither an admission of anything nor a slip due to the lack of a teleprompter. Some Republicans have been claiming that he is a Muslim ever since he became a candidate. He simply states on the video that McCain has not made such accusations personally. It is George Stephanopoulos's interruption that makes it look like a slip.

ridiculous. the only thing it proves is that the blog where this came from (say anything) is appropriately named.

yet another non-story from the right.
the people who believe obama is a secret muslim are the same type of people who believe Iraq was responsible for 9/11. the truth doesn't matter at all to these people. they're just looking for something, anything, that re-enforces their hatreds and fears. and they don't care if its a rumor, an innuendo or a complete fabrication. -

He traveled the world with Wright, Farahahn,to Lybia ....

I think it's just another example that Obama sucks without a teleprompter
Reply
Nah it's another example of how the right wing sucks in this country. It's neither a gafe nor an admission. It's a sound bite clip use to try and convince people (who aren't otherwise too bright) of something that isn't true. -

It also supposes that the history lessons they got came out of history books and not from the bible......

Just read what the Christians did in the 7 crusades.
Read about the barbaric tortures during the Inquisition.
Read about the atrocities and massacres of the Incans and the Mayans in the conquest of the Americas.
Read about the near slavery conditions in the mission system in California.
Read about what the Christian Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and gypsies.
Read about the Christians in Serbia persecuting Muslims.
Read about the Christian Protestants and the Christian Catholics killing each other in Northern Ireland.
Read about what our white, Christian government did to our Native American population.
Read about what the Christian Ku Klux Klan did to slaves and free blacks in rural America.
Read about what the Christian neoconservative right did to subvert our constitution and incite an illegal war in Iraq.
Read all this and you will not vote for anyone who could possibly be a Christian. -

Although his syntax or phraseology was poor, he corrected himself and clearly meant the ISSUE of the allegations of his Muslim faith.
Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!!
Haven't you neocons heard about Rev Jeremiah Wright and the controversy of Obama being in his church for 20 years? Obama had to dissociate himself from the over-the-top Wright.
So half of the neocons believe he still belongs to Wright's church and his militant christianity. The other half believes he is Muslim.
SHEEESH! Make up your collective minds which false accusation you guys want to use in your smear campaign!!!

There are several sects of Muslims, just like there are several sects of Christians. Baptists don't agree with what Methodists teach, Nazarenes don't agree with Lutherans, and everybody disagrees with Catholics! Even if he were a Muslim, it doesn't mean he's a terrorist. Being a Muslim in and of itself doesn't make a person bad. Different, maybe. But if there are extensive background checks in order to work in a bank, what do you think they do if you want to be President? This is just nit-picking! What if he were an Atheist? Nobody would like that, either. What about real issues, like his stand on the economy? We're sinking and we need someone who can figure out what to do about it. Is it Obama? I don't know............

A perfect society is where we ALL get along and live peacefully among each other. Politics is the method by which we try to get to that point. When certain people inject religion into the process (My God is true and yours is false) it just brings us down to the primeval level we are at now. I think IF there is other intelligent life in the universe, surely they must have monitored our behavior and said ....."There nothing here to see folks, keep moving".

Sarah Palin used AK tax dollars to fund dominionist churches
Over the past few days, I've done reporting on Sarah Palin's extensive dominionist connections--including the attempt to run her as a "stealth" dominionist candidate and her connections to some scary dominionist groups including not just "Joel's Army" folks but a far-right Christian Reconstructionist political party linked to domestic terrorism.

but if you air your opinion publicly, you're gonna get feedback one way or the other
here's what you said:
'because of the stupidity of some who feel they are being liberal'
'use your brains.'
'blacks want a black pres but at what cost ?'
you start out insulting people-not good way to get your foot in the door as far as expressing yourself, in my experience
I think you should let blacks speak for themselves-even if you yourself are black, that does not give you leeway to speak for other people. I'm white, and I never recall saying 'whites want this or that'
how the heck do I know what other people want?
It also sort of hamstrings the whole 'one man, one voice, one vote' democracy thingamajig
I understand we let blacks and women vote nowadays along with everybody else-will find out what the voters want soon enough. Let them speak for themselves

The out of context sound bytes get old, but so does a front page of stories that mostly consist of bashing Palin or McCain. There are enough issues of concern about Obama (and McCain as to policy, for that matter) without making too much out of misspeak. It's starting to look like the headlines in Reddit this weekend.
Reply
Incidentally, it is okay to not support Obama, it is okay to be Republican or Independent and it is okay to question patriotism -- thinking people of good concscience can disagree. (I think -- makes one wonder these days when any word can and will be misconstrued for political gain)
Yet, the petty attacks from either supporters towards each other do not help their respective candidate's image, let alone their own.
Otherwise, despite what some social media sites have you believe. I just hope we start getting to substance soon ....there is not much time in the election cycle left. I am missing the old Propeller, there was more variety and meaningful comments.
All of this said --- patriotism and religion are important issues be it Obama or Palin (the two least known), but submissions like this aren't informative on those accounts.-

Religion -- or lack of -- it affects your global world view...be it Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Mormon, Buddah ....or Atheist -- at least most will admit to it.

To relegate importance means to consider how religion would impact one's executive decisions rather than as a means to prejudice.

And what if he were a Muslim? My understanding is that in America, one's religion is--or should be--a private matter that's irrelevant to one's ability to do whatever job one is called upon to perform.

There are substantial followers of the right that no longer believe in that principle of American democracy. They are loud and shrill in their attacks on everything that does not conform to their sect. Fortunately more ande more American christians are speaking out against them.

Didn't our forefathers come here to escape religious intolerance and bigotry supposedly?

let's face it-we all know why many will flinch at that 'same as a Secret Jew or Christian comment
it's not the same to them
muslims are bad
it's as schoolyard simple as that to many
prejudice, pure and simple
some muslims did some bad stuff, so all muslims are bad, and we can't take the chance on electing a secret muslim, because he'll be bad too
I know I sound like a 5 year old BTW
sad, isn't it?

In Indiana, Obama tries to explain what he has learned since being president. He does correct himself, but this is not the first time we've experienced this kind of mix-up with Obama or his campaign. Remember the presidential seal? Or how about when he made his speech in Berlin and his advisors tried to say that is wasn't a political speech because, "When the president of the United States goes and gives a speech, it is not a political speech or a political rally." A reporter had to remind him that he wasn't the President.

He sure gets ahead of himself; maybe he thought he was muslim at one time but now subscribes to christianity after being around Wright all these years. Either way, too many gaffes = I shouldn't have to run for this office, I deserve it already.

In this interview with Stephanopoulos, Obama slips and mentions "my Muslim faith." Now you watch this video for yourself. Obama tells George "You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith ..." George interrupts to say "Your Christian faith." Obama responds with "My Christian faith ... well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim."
Reply
Draw your own conclusions. I don't believe he's a muslim ... but I do wonder what Stephanopoulos is doing correcting him.-

Look. If you're a conservative, you are used to this. When liberals screw up on the screen, we typically notice how easy and lightly the interviewers question them. When conservatives make a screw up, or even attacks a liberal position, the interviewer will actually take the liberal defense position.
Reply
We always see this. This is nothing new.
I mean, after all, Stephanopoulos was part of the Clinton administration. Would it be surprise anyone if he announced he was voting for Obama?
The problem here is that Obama has a speaking problem. Not the gaffe itself.

John McCain has no faith, sought out the endorsement of Hagee, only to have to denounce the man he sought out, which speaks volumes about his ability to pick people of real character. Obama is not a Muslim, that statement was nothing more than a gaffe, taken out of context, yet again!
