This is neither an admission of anything nor a slip due to the lack of a teleprompter. Some Republicans have been claiming that he is a Muslim ever since he became a candidate. He simply states on the video that McCain has not made such accusations personally. It is George Stephanopoulos's interruption that makes it look like a slip.

You are absolutely correct. He did not misspeak. He did simply say that McCain did not make claims that he was a Muslim.
Reply
What he did do is restate it in a way that he could not be taken out of context by the Neo-Cons and that the quote could not be replayed on ad nauseam on Fux.
He deftly saw that it might be misinterpreted against him and nipped it in the bud.-

Even catching it immediately and explaining what he meant by it wouldn't have been enough to keep it from being front page (press) and leading news item (TV) material for weeks had he been a Republican. Were he a Republican the mainstream media would see it as an indication of low intelligence because (according to them) he was too stupid to say "my supposedly being a Muslim" instead of "my Muslim faith," and would report it in a way that made their opinion evident.

I think he would be very tired by now and it could be a slip from that. This is not some grand plot by Muslimsto have on of their own to take over the country. If the man want to pray to Jesus one minute, Allah the next and some Hindu image or denounce that any God exists I don't really care, as long as he will not do anything to stop others from having freedom of speech and religion.

He really does need to whatch what he says this close to the end of the elction though, their are many undecided that take these sorts of slips seriously.-

You are probably right, he is more than likely very tired, however he didn't say he was a Muslim. He said that McCain hadn't made the Muslim accusation, then George Stephanopoulos took the comment and ran with it. So much for left leaning media!

That just means "God is great," and a politician of any faith addressing a Muslim audience would do the same. Would you suspect a white Christian candidate (Huckabee, for instance) if he addressed a Jewish audience about faith and said the Shema (which translates to "Hear oh Israel, the Lord is God, the Lord is One")? Would that make you think he was secretly Jewish, even if he said it in Hebrew?

I doubt it.-

The term has been an Islamic battle cry for many centures. Also, 1) Huckabee was not raised Jewish, and if even he was 2) I'm not aware of the existence of millions of Jewish terrorists, although no doubt hyperbola considers all Jews except those advocating the destruction of Isreal to be terrorists.

I'm more worried about what the Palestinians are doing to everyone else. That's why they've been kicked out of Jordan, Kuwait, and other countries. Arab states don't want them in their countries so I get tired of people beating the Palestinian issue drum. Maybe you should make sure that you can spell "trailer" properly before you call someone else a "tard". If you're going to be a sarcastic douchebag, do it right. I have read a considerable number of books on the subject of the Crusades and the history of the period is commonly misrepresented by the left.

Really. When I spent the Summer in Israel on a kibbutz, the meanie Jews would make one pass over the potato field with the harvester machine. Any spuds too small to be picked up were left for area Palestinians to gather--free of charge. I watched them fill a half dozen baskets in a matter of hours...just during my 4-hour shift on the machine.

Actually, because of this stupidly planned and executed war, we probably have a lot more people out there who want to kill us. That's why we need someone who will end this war and bring our troops home rather than someone who will continue the failed practices of a rogue administration that has been allowed by a complacent congress to run amok all over the constitution that this once great nation was founded on.

He is a Muslim apostate. That means that once he was a Muslim ( his father was one and raised like one in Indonesia) but turned his back on that faith. He is now a Christian. The big problem is according to Sharia law a Muslim apostate is to be killed and any government official is not to stop it. So what will happen if he visits countries with Sharia law, like Iran or Saudia Arabia?

Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

Just read what the Christians did in the 7 crusades.
Read about the barbaric tortures during the Inquisition.
Read about the atrocities and massacres of the Incans and the Mayans in the conquest of the Americas.
Read about the near slavery conditions in the mission system in California.
Read about what the Christian Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and gypsies.
Read about the Christians in Serbia persecuting Muslims.
Read about the Christian Protestants and the Christian Catholics killing each other in Northern Ireland.
Read about what our white, Christian government did to our Native American population.
Read about what the Christian Ku Klux Klan did to slaves and free blacks in rural America.
Read about what the Christian neoconservative right did to subvert our constitution and incite an illegal war in Iraq.
Read all this and you will not vote for anyone who could possibly be a Christian.-

How many americans know that Cheney, wolfowitz and Rumsfeld started their mass murdering by helping kill over a million Indonesians during the Ford administration?
Crimes Against Humanity From Ford to Saddam
.... If we do not limit our analysis of Ford to his role as a U.S. "statesman," and instead examine his behavior through an internationalist lens similar to that employed to judge Saddam Hussein and concerned with crimes against humanity, we find that Ford, too, was responsible for mass murder-in East Timor. The responsibility goes further than Ford's now-well-known giving to Indonesia the proverbial green light to invade. What the green light metaphor obscures is just how decisive Ford's authorization was, and how his complicity with Indonesia's crimes continued throughout his brief White House occupancy....

Testament of the Death Squads
Good Christ, Bad Christ
.... Well before neocons teamed up with the Religious Right to fight radical Islam in what the former believes is WW IV and the latter prays is Armageddon, they honed their fighting skills against another “political religion:” Liberation Theology, Latin America’s Christian socialism which fought against US-backed military juntas and sought to achieve social justice through a redistribution of wealth. Two decades before Gibson’s bloodied and tortured body of Christ became a symbol of a united New Right, the diverse strains of America’s conservative movement came together over the bloodied and tortured bodies of Central Americans. ...
... right-wing Christians Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Phyllis Schlafly and Oliver North, along with evangelical capitalists such as Amway founder Richard DeVos...
...Pat Robertson used his Christian Broadcasting Network to raise money for Efraín Ríos Montt, the evangelical Christian who presided over the Guatemala’s 1982 genocide, which killed over a hundred thousand Mayan Indians....
... they deepened their ties with the international Right, with retired military and black ops personal, mercenaries, arms merchants, right-wing public relations experts, ex-agents of the Iranian Shah’s secret policy, international drug traffickers...
... the kind of moralism that many key fundamentalists used to justify the violence visited on Central America in the 1980s easily led to the kind of righteousness that today legitimates cluster bombing of civilians as an option of first resort. ...
... Over the next ten years, as a direct result of US policy, more than three hundred thousand Central Americans, many of them devout Christians, would be killed and tortured, and over a million driven into exile. In a way, the New Right’s crusade in Central America was a preview, and is today on world tour in Boykin’s Abu Ghraib and the killing fields of Iraq and now Lebanon. ...

Actually, my point was that complaining about the Crusades from the Muslim point of view was invalid since they themselves set into motion the cycle of events leading to the Crusades, through their own military aggression. There's no reason to complain about the cycles of history since each side has invaded and been invaded. The events of the Fourth Crusade are a sidebar issue you're trying to use to derail the discussion. My personal opinion is that the Ottoman Empire would have been helpful today since it was the last power able to stabilize the region.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the KKK. The problem is hate groups are hate groups no matter which side they are on. The other problem is that liberals always try to paint conservatives with the same brush. That was Hitlers big lie concept of blaming the Jews for everything. So you are following in the footsteps of one of the big anti Christian liberals of all time. Hitler. So keep painting with your liberal hate brush. You are being a good follower doing that.

Actually, the Crusades were a response to the Islamic invasion of the Christian Byzantine Empire and the Empire's request for help from the Pope. They brought it on themselves. For any Christian atrocity, I can name an Islamic atrocity:
Reply
The sack of Constantinople and the systematic rape and enslavement of its young girls and boys.
The ethnic cleansing of Serbian Christins that is occuring in Kosovo as we speak, with over 200 churches having been burned.
The Islamic invasion of Spain and attempted invasion of France

Adolf Hitler was no Christian, actually the Nazis wanted to impose a revival of Tuetonic paganism

Here's an excerpt from Mein Kampf - I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting the work of the Lord.
Excerpt from a speech -
My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people...
To summarize, the label of Christian, Jew, or Muslim etc is not what determines the quality of the man. All humans have a label. All humans are capable of doing good or evil. So the label is unimportant. You have to look at the person's actions to determine the value of the man.
Do NOT be frightened or put off or offended that I pointed out Hitler was a Christian. I am not attacking Christianity. I myself am a devout Catholic. Hitler was a Christian who committed un-Christlike acts. Look to his actions to determine his human value.
By the same token, do not decide all Muslims are evil by the label. Look to the actions of the individual-

Just like Obama turning his back on the Muslim faith Hitler turned his back on the Christian faith. That has been documented many places. He held meeting with the party elite where they discussed those things. He was into several things non Christian. He was into mysticism and the concept of the Aryan super race of the Teutonic pagan beliefs. This made him a NON Christian.

Endo - You again show your ignorance and revisionism. Hitler was a true believer in a distorted, cruel version of Christianity and used his own interpretation of Catholic doctrine to justify his persecution of Jews.
Reply
I am not at all well versed in Nazi history, but just googling Adolf Hitler and Christianity opens up numerous references to speeches and Mein Kampf excerpts about Hitler's deep belief in Christianity.
Please note. The fact that Hitler was a Christian does not mean that he represents or believes in an accurate, theologically correct version of Christianity.
He may have dabbled in all the other things you say, but he was a Christian.
But do not be so defensive. I am a Catholic like Hitler was. I am not attacking Christianity or Catholicism. The series of posts above (which you obviously do not quite understand) was meant to bring out the point that peoples of ALL religions are capable of and have been known to murder, perform atrocities in the name of their religions.
The fault lies not with the religion, but with the human that perverts his religion.
Lastly, Obama was never a Muslim. His father left the famly when Barack was 2 yrs old. His stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, moved the family to Indonesia where the first 2 years of Barack's schooling was in a CATHOLIC mission school. Then he went to public school. At 10, he was sent to his WHITE, CHRISTIAN grandparents. He enrolled in the Punahou School, which is NONSECTARIAN.
BARACK WAS NEVER MUSLIM.
Your persisting in telling unfounded lies is exactly what the swiftboaters did. You are just interested in disseminating misinformation just to win votes. You have sold your soul to the devil just to get McCain elected. You are a disgusting human being.
Lastly, even if Barack was a Muslim and converted to Christianity, is that not a victory for Christianity? Why do you look upon the conversion of a non-Christian to Christianity as an evil thing. Although it does not apply to Obama, I would feel quite happy at a conversion. You should too. Would you not want more Muslim extremists turning their backs on Islam? Or would you prefer more Christians convert to Islam?

Mea - I will vote for Obama because he will raise taxes on the rich 1.2% of income earners and increase tax credits for the middle class and decrease taxes on the lower class.
Reply
He will seek ALL avenues of negotiations and redress before resorting to military force. This is a much more restrained and intelligent apporoach to the problems of the world instead of the stridently, arrogantly militaristic mentality that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and now McCain and Palin possess.
Obama will pursue a much broader and comprehensive energy policy that will seek alternative energy sources more actively than simply drill, drill, drill that McCain and Palin have talked about. That will drop the price of oil permanently and make us independent of petroleum that comes from countries that hate us.
Obama will rebuild our alliances around the world and seek more peaceful solutions to our problems with China, North Korea, and Iran. Bush finally has realized the futility of continued friction with all these countries. He even went to the Olympic games in Beijing and thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Obama will re-unite our fractured, polarized country and again make it a true UNITED States. Both McCain's and Palin's speeches continued the polarizing attacks that Bush and Cheney have instilled into the political arena these last 8 years.
Obama will instill true change in the ways of Congress. McCain talks about change and is trying to paint himself as an outsider to Washington politics Well, he has been part of the problem for 27 years. He voted with Bush on 95% of his votes. He has swallowed whole Bush's attitude about the 100-year Iraq War, illegal immigration, terrporism. McCain will bring NO CHANGE.-

My biggest questions however are HOW and WHAT.
Reply
How will Obama be able to "increase tax credits" and "decrease taxes?" Yet still fund all of his "nanny state" ideas. How is he going to pay for his not quite universal health care? How is he going to balance the budget? He has even admitted that he would not be able to get rid of Bush tax cuts because it would be bad for the economy. So How can he do it?
How and What avenues of negotiations will he use before resorting to military force, and at what point do the negotiations end? How many chances will he give before he decides that military force is the only avenue? He has even stated that there comes a time when you do have to fight.
How will Obama seek alternative energy sources, and what will he do about the energy crisis NOW. How will Obama seek alternative energy when he has said that Nuclear is not an option. What is he going to use to pay for these initiatives, when he is going to cut taxes.
How will Obama rebuild our alliances around the world? Obama even said that he would NOT go to China during the Olympics...so what is his plan?
How will Obama re-unite our fractured, polarized country when he can't even re-unite his own party? What is he doing or will do to help institute change.
What has Obama done that was bipartisan, against dem positionings, or seemingly unpopular, even if they were what is best for the country?
I've heard lots of campaign promises, and very little meat. I wanna know the specifics...I want to know the how's and the what's of these plans before I can admit that they are good solid plans. -

"I will vote for Obama because he will raise taxes on the rich 1.2% of income earners and increase tax credits for the middle class and decrease taxes on the lower class."
Reply
Wrong His tax plan it to raise taxes on the top 20%. Taxing the rich ever since Kennedy lowered it on the rich has had the reverse effect on the tax revenue. Lowering those taxes increases tax revenue. Raising those taxes lowers the tax revenue. Liberal never think about how this makes the wealthy protect their money. If they can't make enough return on their money to pay for those taxes they put it where it can't be taxed.
Taxing companies only taxes the customers of that company as a hidden tax. Companies put the tax in the expense column and then strive to make their fair 10% profit. That is why the Democrats love to tax companies. The tax gets sent down the stream for everybody to pay and they look like they are punishing those greedy companies that everybody has stock in their 401K's. Taxing the oil companies means higher prices at the pump. Think about that one.
Again the big lie about Bush not trying all other means of resolving the problem. The UN was involved along with many other nations working with it and us diplomatically. But then the big lie takes over of Bush lied. Garbage.
All those other energy sources have been under research since Carter. So what new ones will Obama try to create. There are only a limited number of ways to create energy. Scientist are currently looking into all of them. But Obama will magically create new ones to look into.
Again the lie about how fractured our position in the rest of the world. Liberals want to be loved. Guess what. It will never happen. We are respected and sometimes feared. If Obama is elected the terrorists will rejoice and bin Laden will crow about the paper tiger we will become.
Obama uniting the country. Where and how will he do that. That is something he has NEVER taken action on. To the contrary he voted to keep the corrupt Chicago machine in power when a bi partisan group tried to go against it.
"Obama will instill true change in the ways of Congress."
His record is one of NEVER reaching across the isle like McCain has done to the disgust of Republican sometimes. He in all of his career has never proposed any legislation. He has voted present a majority of time in the legislature. When present in the Senate he did not vote times when he was there. How is this man with this record going to change the way that congress is run.-

Two thirds of all US companies and 68% of foreign companies doing business here PAY NO TAXES. Not one single penny. The aggregate gross income of all thse companies reaches ino the trillions.
The main goal of corporations is profit. So even when they are rolling in profit, they still send jobs overseas, because then they can make even MORE profit.
For individuals in the top 1.2% of income, the tax cuts given to them simply ends up being re-invested into their portfolios. They can only purchase so many Rolls-Royces and yachts. There is NO trickle down effect.
Tax cuts given to the middle class and the poor have a greater stimulating effect on the economy. These classes historically have less or even non-existent savings or investment portfolios. Any discretionary moneys they have ends up in paying bills, buying groceries, school clothes etc. All these activities stimulate the economy, factories, etc much more than giving more money to the tiny fraction of rich at the top.
Liberals like me love to tax companies, because many of them have NEVER BEEN TAXED.
On energy, of course everything I mentioned has been looked at - That's how I know about them. The point is to find new and more efficient engines to make the use of these fuels profitable. Also New fuels may be discovered. New methods of burning garbage. New plants to discover that may produce more useful calories.
There ARE new horizons, new challenges, new engines etc to discover and explore. Just saying that we already know so many different things does not mean they are economically viable or the that they are the best already available and nothing more is out there.
This is where gov't investment and tax credits is vital.-

Anyway, controlling gas prices is easy. Pass legislation to tax windfall profits and institute price controls simultaneously. It will drive them crazy and they will lobby really hard against it. But it has to be done.
As far as our international standing, the US is now looked on as a loud-mouthed, bullying braggart. Many countries now trust China more as a trading partner and political ally than the US. McCain was complaining that Obama was being treated like a rock star or the new president of the US. Think about it - WHY?? Because all the world leaders are sick and tired of Bush, the Republicans, the Iraq War, the bellicosity, the heavy handed approach that Bush and Cheney (remember him?) love.
At the start of his administration, Bush specifically stated that China had to be treated in a confrontational manner. Now he realizes the failure of such a policy. He actually went to the Beijing Olympics to signal his support of China, in spite of its abuses in Tibet.
Madeline Albright was developing a rapprochement w/ Iran. Strong enough that they were willing to dismantle their nuclear industry in return for trade and political favors. Clinton was unable to finish the negotiations because of the impeachment. The task was passed on to Bush. Bush despised Clinton so much that completely ignored the opening. Iran went further and helped us track down Osama bin Laden. Bush rewarded them by labeling them as one of the axis of evil. Now Iran is pursuing its own interests and no longer listens to any of our pleas to stop nuclear production. TOO BAD!!
All the moderate Muslims that originally rejected radicalism have slowly drifted into support of radicalism because they are disgusted w/ Bush and the Republicans. If Obama is elected, all the moderates will become back to supporting the US. When that support dries up, then we will see a real and permanent drop in terrorism.
As far as politics goes, I agree that the old McCain was more of an independent. But in order to win the nomination, he has been forced to accept the far right and neoconservatives. He now embraces the 100-year war in Iraq. He has voted w/ Bush 95% of the time.
Remember the radical right is controlled by people like Rove, Cheney, Hastert, DeLay (yes he's still around and is still treated like royalty). They have been extremely abrasive and polarizing and their take-no-prisoner approach has been one of the prime reasons for the polarization and division that exist now. McCain has now fallen under their influence. He proved it by selecting Sarah Palin who is just as narrow minded and abrasive and polarizing.-

As far as corruption, what you said is an outright lie. When Obama was a freshman state senator in Illinois, the first problem he decided to tackle was the Illinois campaign laws. He was not able to get everything he wanted; but because of his bipartisan approach, he was able to get new rules barring use of campaign funds for personal expenses, tougher disclosure laws, and banning of many types of gifts from lobbyists. Republican senator Kirk Dillard praised Obama and got scolded by the Illinois GOP.
Reply
Obama has even worked w/ McCain on ethics legislation. Cindy McCain's half sister is voting for Obama. Rudy Giuliani's children are voting for Obama. Oregon Republican sen Gordon Smith actually used Obama's seeming approval in a campaign ad to win votes.
So let me repeat, endoscopy. You are a liar on Obama's record. Shame on you. STOP LYING.

Keep bringing up the Keating 5 please. I get to tell the story every time. There were 5 senators. 1 Republican and 4 democrats. Senators John McCain and John Glen were found to have done nothing wrong ethically. The other three Democrats were found guilty of impeding the investigation into the problem and they were censured. They served out their term and then faded into oblivion.

This from a senator who is supposed to be smart, experienced, and ethical.
Another stupid move was embracing Bush and the 100-year Iraq War. The war has already cost over 500 billion and raised the national debt to 10 trillion. It will take centuries or, at least, several generations to pay down that debt

Yes, there is some mudslinging there too, and there was plenty during the primaries. However, as an outsider, I must say that mudslinging, rumor mongering, fear mongering, war mongering, and name-calling seems to be a specialty of the right. They do it with gusto. The left (which I consider the middle because there are very few real left-winger on Propeller) does it but only halfheartedly, and they post a larger number of really well reasoned comments.

I do try to avoid threads about rumors, and if I do participate, I like to stick to the facts even there. Well, aside from the occasional sarcastic comment, but I don't think you'll find much name-calling or smearing in my comments. I usually even withhold positive votes for comments with which I agree but are written in an offensive manner, and the surest way to earn a rare negative from me is by being really obnoxious.

It was no slip up and it was no admission if you are referring to the the video of this thread. It makes no difference whether one says:
Reply
He never referred to me as a Muslim
He never called me a Muslim
He never attacked me for my Muslim faith
He never said I had Muslim faith, etc.
All of this simply means that McCain didn't carry out the attacks personally. If you really want to misunderstand something, it's usually possible.-

But do you really see no difference between sentences 1,2,4 & sentence 3. Read them again. I completely see a difference. Now had he added the word, "supposed" before Muslim, then it would have made more sense...I guess we will be hearing yet another of Obama's famous, I didn't mean that, I should have said, I meant to say moments on this one!

Israel's Purging of Palestinian Christians
... Certainly, the continuing fall in the number of Christians in the Holy Land concerns Israel's leadership almost as keenly as the patriarchs and bishops who visit Bethlehem at Christmas – but for quite the opposite reason. Israel is happy to see Christians leave, at least of the indigenous Palestinian variety.
(More welcome are the crazed fundamentalist Christian Zionists from the United States who have been arriving to help engineer the departure of Palestinians, Muslims and Christians alike, in the belief that, once the Jews have dominion over the whole of the Holy Land, Armageddon and the "End Times" will draw closer.)
... There is only one problem in selling this image to the West: the minority of Christian Palestinians who have happily lived under Muslim rule in the Holy Land for centuries. Today, in a way quite infuriating to Israel, these Christians confuse the picture by continuing to take a leading role in defining Palestinian nationalism and resistance to Israel's occupation. They prefer to side with the Muslim "fanatics" than with Israel, the Middle East's only outpost of Judeo-Christian "civilization."
The presence of Palestinian Christians reminds us that the supposed "clash of civilizations" in the Holy Land is not really a war of religions but a clash of nationalisms, between the natives and European colonial settlers.-

... Christians have been at the core of the wider secular Palestinian national movement, helping to define its struggle. They range from exiled professors such as the late Edward Said to human rights activists in the occupied territories such as Raja Shehadeh. The founders of the most militant wings of the national movement, the Democratic and Popular Fronts for the Liberation of Palestine, were Nayif Hawatmeh and George Habash, both Christians.
Reply
The most notorious Palestinian nationalist politician inside Israel is Azmi Bishara, yet another Christian, who has been put on trial and is regularly abused by his colleagues in the Knesset.
This intimate involvement of Palestinian Christians in the Palestinian national struggle is one of the reasons why Israel has been so keen to find ways to encourage their departure – and then blame it on intimidation by, and violence from, Muslims....

There are several sects of Muslims, just like there are several sects of Christians. Baptists don't agree with what Methodists teach, Nazarenes don't agree with Lutherans, and everybody disagrees with Catholics! Even if he were a Muslim, it doesn't mean he's a terrorist. Being a Muslim in and of itself doesn't make a person bad. Different, maybe. But if there are extensive background checks in order to work in a bank, what do you think they do if you want to be President? This is just nit-picking! What if he were an Atheist? Nobody would like that, either. What about real issues, like his stand on the economy? We're sinking and we need someone who can figure out what to do about it. Is it Obama? I don't know............

A perfect society is where we ALL get along and live peacefully among each other. Politics is the method by which we try to get to that point. When certain people inject religion into the process (My God is true and yours is false) it just brings us down to the primeval level we are at now. I think IF there is other intelligent life in the universe, surely they must have monitored our behavior and said ....."There nothing here to see folks, keep moving".

I think you should let blacks speak for themselves-even if you yourself are black, that does not give you leeway to speak for other people. I'm white, and I never recall saying 'whites want this or that'
how the heck do I know what other people want?
It also sort of hamstrings the whole 'one man, one voice, one vote' democracy thingamajig

The out of context sound bytes get old, but so does a front page of stories that mostly consist of bashing Palin or McCain. There are enough issues of concern about Obama (and McCain as to policy, for that matter) without making too much out of misspeak. It's starting to look like the headlines in Reddit this weekend.
Reply
Incidentally, it is okay to not support Obama, it is okay to be Republican or Independent and it is okay to question patriotism -- thinking people of good concscience can disagree. (I think -- makes one wonder these days when any word can and will be misconstrued for political gain)
Yet, the petty attacks from either supporters towards each other do not help their respective candidate's image, let alone their own.
Otherwise, despite what some social media sites have you believe. I just hope we start getting to substance soon ....there is not much time in the election cycle left. I am missing the old Propeller, there was more variety and meaningful comments.
All of this said --- patriotism and religion are important issues be it Obama or Palin (the two least known), but submissions like this aren't informative on those accounts.-

it's not the same to them
muslims are bad
it's as schoolyard simple as that to many
prejudice, pure and simple
some muslims did some bad stuff, so all muslims are bad, and we can't take the chance on electing a secret muslim, because he'll be bad too
I know I sound like a 5 year old BTW
sad, isn't it?

In Indiana, Obama tries to explain what he has learned since being president. He does correct himself, but this is not the first time we've experienced this kind of mix-up with Obama or his campaign. Remember the presidential seal? Or how about when he made his speech in Berlin and his advisors tried to say that is wasn't a political speech because, "When the president of the United States goes and gives a speech, it is not a political speech or a political rally." A reporter had to remind him that he wasn't the President.

He sure gets ahead of himself; maybe he thought he was muslim at one time but now subscribes to christianity after being around Wright all these years. Either way, too many gaffes = I shouldn't have to run for this office, I deserve it already.

In this interview with Stephanopoulos, Obama slips and mentions "my Muslim faith." Now you watch this video for yourself. Obama tells George "You're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith ..." George interrupts to say "Your Christian faith." Obama responds with "My Christian faith ... well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim."

Draw your own conclusions. I don't believe he's a muslim ... but I do wonder what Stephanopoulos is doing correcting him.-

Look. If you're a conservative, you are used to this. When liberals screw up on the screen, we typically notice how easy and lightly the interviewers question them. When conservatives make a screw up, or even attacks a liberal position, the interviewer will actually take the liberal defense position.
Reply
We always see this. This is nothing new.
I mean, after all, Stephanopoulos was part of the Clinton administration. Would it be surprise anyone if he announced he was voting for Obama?
The problem here is that Obama has a speaking problem. Not the gaffe itself.-

I wonder when these Republican nit pickers will step up and apply the same perfection standard to their own candidates? Because let's get real here.....if $100 were added to the general budget to offset the deficit every time Bush or any of his cronies (including McCain) misspoke or forgot what city they were in or mistook Sunnis for Shias or a million other mistakes they've made over and over again, we'd not have any deficit at all by now. In fact, we might even have a surplus with so many gaffes or "Freudian slips" the republicans have made in the past decade. Yet there is nary a word from you people.
Reply
But you let Obama make ONE gaffe, and all of the sudden you have articles and comments up the wazoo about it. I truly pity you folks who have nothing better to do than troll videos and interviews looking for slips of the tongue by your opponent when you so blindly overlook the many examples of your own doing far, far worse. I don't find it difficult to believe that some people would not be able to understand what Senator Obama said. These are the same people that can't understand that Michelle Obama is proud of her country while being really proud of the fact that her country seemed to be understanding that we need change in Washington.

Reply
In the debates, Obama always agreed with the people who answered before him.
In SaddleBack, he was having difficulty articulating a position.
In interviews, he seems very inarticulate towards answering questions.
His only advantage is his ability to give speeches.
I feel McCain is going to tear his heart out in the next debate. It surprises me that a group of people who harassed Bush for his speaking ability are rallying behind Obama. He appears stupid on TV.-

Obama is a man who thinks before he answers a question, instead of simply shooting off his mouth and then thinking about it later. The only people who seem to think he sounds "stupid" on television are those who apparently don' t have the intellect to follow his points as he makes them. Like his answer to the abortion issue being "above his pay grade" as an example. Thinking people understood his comment that his opinion isn't an authority on that and really shouldn't be something people use as a political lever. His personal pro-life stance isn't going to dictate his governing decisions because its based in religion. And he, unlike the rabid right, understands the dynamics of our government and governing process to be separate from religion and religious issues. His only mistake is believing the American populous to be smart enough to follow his nuanced speech in question and answer sessions. Its not his fault though that American populous is more concerned about who they'd rather share a beer with than who would better run the country and fix the mess we're in because of the last "beer buddy" who was elected President.
Reply
Perhaps what this campaign proves more than anything is the dire need to bring our educational system up to speed in this country so that just maybe the next generation might have the intelligence to keep up when it comes to very important issues of the day. as for Obama's difficulty in expressing himself fluently, take a second and imagine if your every word, every pause, every syntactic nuance was not only under the most intense scrutiny in history [current apex of media development] but also knowing every connotation of every word is also being considered and plotted over [ie, 'typical']
and then imagine pouring your whole self into an endeavor knowing that if a gnat's eyelash is out of place in your speech it could damage or ruin that endeavor
how fluently do you think you could speak under those conditions? Where you don't even have to say the wrong thing, just mix a word up or forget one, and there will be outcry over it?
Obama is in a lose/lose as far as speaking-if he speaks freely and without examining every freakin word, he'll sound great to me and others, no doubt-pretty voice, good speaker-but he'll not be able to cover all those semantic angles used to dig at him. And if he examines every word before letting it out of his mouth as he apparently must to stop the spinmeisters-well, so much for talking pretty and smooth
Maybe he is being too careful, and figures the race is his to lose. Maybe he should consider his youth, let fly and let the chips fall where they may. He's young, he may get another shot if the vultures want to pick at the carcass of his words after they've killed them with dissection, pick them right down to the bare bones of sentence structure-

They will sacrifice their kids and grandkids economic future over a missed word to make it clear (such my "supposed" Muslim faith) or will conveniently leave out a key word in a sentence (such a "really" proud of my country) to demonize indivduals that have so much to offer this country.
Verbal gaffes have been apparent on both sides during this and every other elections. It tests our country's honesty and intelligence when we selectively eliminate or focus on them.

Look around is all i say.. ask for guidance in this election , we need it!! when i say "guidance "I don't mean from the news. this has almost became a black/white issue , also, some people don't even care what they stand for,the only change they want is color they don't even hear what Obama is saying,or Mccain . but I have to go with experience . Obama is promising too much .. typical politic's, and guess what? unless he's flippin the bill , this SOUNDS expensive ! and will be . just making it sound tooo easy . Why does this subject provoke conversation now? Unfortunately, it is of the candidate's own making. He has a dilemma. He knows the American people are not ready for the first Muslim president, much less one who might have had Muslim ties. The reason is not as many mistakenly believe based on inherent religious bias, but based on the perceptions of irreconcilable cultural differences between the Judeo-Christain traditions and the Musilm traditions, also of course 9/11 where Muslim terrorists executed an attack on the United States in the name of their perception of religious calling, however warped that may have been.
Reply
The candidate could have come clean at the start about his background. The facts are: his Dad is a Muslim. Nothing wrong with that, just a fact. In Muslim theology as in Christain theology, the child's religion is determined by the father's religion. Hence, Obama was born a Muslim. That is just a fact, which people seem to want to debate a lot. Now, sometime after he was born, the candidate became a Christian. It might have been a day later, or when he was an adult that he became a Christian. Exactly when does not really matter.
So why doesn't the candidate just clean this up? The reason is it is a no-win situation because it will involve coming clean about having been born a Muslim. And then it opens up all the questions of how true his Christian faith is held, and why he practiced that faith and chose to be converted in Reverend Wright's radical church. This means unfortunately for his followers, there always will be this cloud of doubt and uncertainty, since the answers only will lead to more questions. -

Who is causing most of the violence in the world today? Who has sworn to destroy the Great Satan? The Catholic Church, or the Muslims? Find a candidate who can get away with lying about their father being a 'freedom fighter' when he was actually part of the most corrupt and violent government in Kenya 's history. Find a candidate with close ties to The Nation of Islam and the violent Muslim overthrow in Africa , a candidate who is educated among white infidel Americans but hides his bitterness and anger behind a superficial toothy smile.

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.
3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.
4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone.
Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and
tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took
shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google 'Obama and Odinga' and see what you get. FIND the truth!
"WAKE UP AMERICA", IS THIS WHO YOU WANT AS PRESIDENT OF AMERICA??
OBAMA'S ROOTS ARE NOT AMERICAN, OBAMA'S ROOTS ARE IN ARABIA, INDONESIA,
AND KENYA. WHY WOULD YOU WANT OBAMA WHO HAS NO AMERICAN ROOTS??
VOTE COUNTRY FIRST. "NO-WAY ZEROBAMA" -

What is the diff. If I remember civics 101 there is suppose to be seperation of Church and State. Catholic, Muslim, Mormon, or what have you it shouldn't be a factor. I remember JFK, many worryed about his deep rooted Roman Catholicism, and obaying the Pope over the laws of the United States of America, it never happen.

Some Christian people I know of when on a tour to Isreal and when they were there, the Jews inquired of them why in the world America would even consider electing a Muslim for their President. Other countries know him better than we do. hmmmmmm........

I think this is incredibly rediculous. As of this post, there are 328 comments on a complete bullsh!t thread. The American public really is FOOLISH, Propeller being no exception.

I never thought I'd see this type of tabloid trash elevated so high on Propeller.
I'm definitely boycotting this thread and most likely may never comment again.
We are ALL smarter than this, Republicans and Democrats alike.
If you really like discussing this trash, then check out my upcoming submission about aliens being real and George W. Bush winning the Nobel Peace Prize. -

Guys I'm as conservative as they come. This is a total non-story to hide a non-candidate. Rather than these fake puff stories how about Barry actually explaining his economic plans. If he can't do that, please explain the new power sources he's claiming we will build. How about explaining how we will see the new jobs without building more fossil fuel and nuke plants? Can he explain how his sitting down with a terrorist dictator like we find in Tehran won't elevate him and cause us more problems.

Hope and change are neither a plan nor a destination. Skip the puff show us the stuff. -

Barack Obama is not Muslim. Get your facts strait. He proclaims to be Christian. The media will try to lead you to believe what they want, and instead of investigating it for yourselves, you will blindly believe them. What a crock of crap. Even if he was Muslim in the past, I guess most of you underestimate the saving power of Jesus Christ. SO it's NOT 'once a Muslim, always a Muslim'. Want the facts?

We need to band together and start a new campaign. This needs to go viral so please compose an email to every right wing Fundamentalist Christian you know. The message is very simple...

"Why vote in Satan's world. If you truly have faith in God, please stay home and pray instead of going to the polls to vote!" Let's see how that works out for you!!! Maybe God will bless America and people will try it.
