      Phasing down troops before the surge would have been disaster. This example of Obama's foreign policy "experience" is not a good one. NOT AT ALL!

            Any effect of the 'surge' was incidental at best. The surge initially increased casualties all around. It wasn't until our government effectively began paying insurgents not to target our troops and Al Maliki arrived at a ceasefire did the violence level come down to what we see now.

            Surge or no, if the ceasefire breaks, violence will return, perhaps worse than before, since everyone is now 'rested'.
