Comments for Obama Laughs off Palin’s National Security Experience »
Posted By capj71 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsDuring his interview on ABC’s This Week program this morning, Obama laughed off the idea that Sarah Palin has more national security experience than he does. He also took the Republicans to task for mocking his time as a community organizer. “I actually knew that Russia was next to Alaska as well. I saw it on a map,” Obama said.

If you read the article he has done more than talk in front of Germans. He has served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and passed legislation on critical issues like nuclear proliferation. That is national security experience. Not to mention that he selected Joe Biden who has extensive foreign relations and national security experience to back him up. Who will back her up?

Errrrr uhmmm errr humm well
He thought about joining the Military ya that’s it ya!
Now here’s a hoot from Axelrod
Remember Obamas GREAT claims of leadership?
He co-sponsored? True he and 99 other senators were all co-sponsors!
Turns out the “bills” he’s claming were not even voted on. Didn’t have to
co-sponsored bills that passed by unanimous consent
Axelrod: One of the first things that Senator Obama did when he came to the U.S. Senate was push for the most far-reaching ethics reforms that we’ve seen since Watergate.
Passed on unanimous consent didn’t even have a vote! And he didn’t write it!
Blahahahaha
**** Lugar, the very respected Republican senator from Indiana, spoke out and said, These are just partisan attacks. I’ve worked with Barack Obama.’ They worked together on arms control.
Passed by unanimous consent, no opposition and he didn’t write it had 100 co-sponsors
This guy is a disgrace to empty suits everywhere!-

Whether Palin is qualified or not isn't the issue. The issue will always be how Mccain arrived at this choice. Some has said that the VP position is the most UNDEMOCRATIC position in our government. Imagine Mccain's demise and we're stuck with someone who we didn't elect and we didn't do enough checking into her beliefs and how she thinks we will be in a very, very serious Constitutional fight just to get her out of office. I don't want someone who didn't undergo the scrutiny of the American people and media to be in a position where they can be the leader of our country. Not me. Mccains VP pick is a MASSIVE SECURITY VIOLATION and borders on the line of treason against the American people.

Secretive Right-Wing Group Forced McCain to take Palin
The Council for National Policy , an ultra-secretive cabal that networks wealthy right-wing donors together with top conservative operatives to plan long-term movement strategy forced McCain to choose Palin as the VP candidate.

Obama is also on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Any effect of the 'surge' was incidental at best. The surge initially increased casualties all around. It wasn't until our government effectively began paying insurgents not to target our troops and Al Maliki arrived at a ceasefire did the violence level come down to what we see now.
Reply
Surge or no, if the ceasefire breaks, violence will return, perhaps worse than before, since everyone is now 'rested'.

Obama chairs the European Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which has oversight of military operations in Afghanistan
Reply
http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/...
t's true that Obama has convened no meetings of the subcommittee, but his camp counters that he became chair of the subcommittee early last year, just as he was starting his presidential campaign. Clinton is technically correct that Obama could have used the subcommittee to conduct oversight of actions and policies related to Afghanistan. But the full foreign relations committee, under the guidance of Senator Joe Biden, has held several hearings on Afghanistan that covered NATO's role there. It's not as if the foreign relations committee did nothing on Afghanistan because Obama did not take on the mission. Also, as happens with many committees, the chair of the full committee reserves the right to handle the big issues him- or herself, and Afghanistan counts as a big issue.
seems nothing has been accomplished in Afghanistan under the watches of both Biden and Obama the Democratic candidates for President and Vice President.........

Palin lied about visiting Ireland as part of her foreign policy experience
...She didn't visit Ireland, which is what the McCain-Palin campaign claimed to Politico's Ben Smith on Saturday. She had a short refueling stopover, which means at best her extensive Irish diplomacy amounted to buying a sweater and a beer mug in the Shannon airport....

Palin was chosen because she was supposed to represent the common people. Can't people see how they are being manipulated? She is a pretty woman, with children involved in her local political scene. She didn't want to be in politics, she fell into it. after she got her start in broadcasting and PTA Meetings. She has NO experience or education to run a country. I am your average American and I d on't want someone like me to run this country. i want a person who has dedicated their life to poltics evidenct by their choice of education and career goals. The Pres and VP positions are the most important positions in America. We should expect the highest level of intelligence , experience and dedication. Palin never aspired to any of this, if she had she would have at least chosen a different college major than journalism.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative." During her six years as mayor, she increased general government expenditures by more than 33 percent. During those same six years, the amount of taxes collected by the city increased by 38 percent. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax, which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefitted large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
Reply
The huge increases in tax revenue during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list, though — borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt but left it with indebtedness of more than $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? Or a new library? No. $1 million for a park. $15 million-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex, which she rushed through, on a piece of property that the city didn't even have clear title to. That was still in litigation seven years later — to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5 million for road projects that could have been done in five to seven years without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
Wasilla still doesn't have a sewage treatment plant.-

A school that has produced numerous US Presidents (6).Near the head of his class. If you have like credentials, state them! No he doesn't seem like the guy you could sit down and have a beer with, thank the FSM for that. But neither was the blue-blooded, teetotaling GW either. Grades do not measure intelligence. There are very intelligent people who do poorly in school. Law school is selective. You have to be intelligent to get accepted. Law school verses journalism school, hmmm, yes there is a diffrerence. Law school is far more rigorous and competitve than journalism school.

I will take any of Obama's advisors, namely men like Fareed Zakaria (Oh no!, another foreign sounding name)and Robert Reich (and be sure men like William Ayres and Jeremiah Wright will not be among them) over the current staff or anyone McCain (see i.e. Phil Gramm) has advising him. Presidents are made, not ready-made creations. Really did GW Bush seem so bad upon election? He was known as the "uniter" in Texas. And if you watch his speeches from that time he seemed almost reasonable. But add **** Cheney to the mix and all of the sudden this once reasonable man seems like a tyrant (which he has never of course truly been). Biden nor anyone else apparent among Obama's advisors holds any such aspirations.

And you are right, intelligence does not necessarily make for a great presidency. Jimmy Carter was one of our most educated presidents. Nor is experience a predicator of success, see James Buchanan.

I suspect the Palin 'breath of fresh air' will get pretty stale pretty quickly. She's already made her first 'gaffe': claiming that lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.” Um, sweetie, neither company is taxpayer funded...well, until NOW that is. You don't have to be an economy wonk to know that.
Reply
Her efforts to censor books at the library and her views on teaching Creationism will likely turn off the independents and Moderates McCain is courting, and her husband's secessionist tendencies could easily become a campaign drag chute for the 'red-meat' Right as well.
I imagine she'll be allowed to do only the most softball interviews and make campaign visits to only the most friendly red states. She'll be prominent in the campaign ads and can be easily trotted out for some crowd-waving at high-profile events.

It makes no sense to compare Obamo to Palin. Obamo has a law degree from the most prestigeous university in the USA. He taught constitution law for 10 years. He was a state senator in Illinois for 7 years. He serves as US Senator almost 4 years (Foreign Affairs Committee) and have met with with many foreign leaders. His experience is actually more diverse than John McCain who only served in the Navy and US Senate. Sarah has served as Mayor of a small town and Governor for less than 2 years of a state less than the size of San Antonia, population wise.

It's funny how the republicans are mocking the community organizer credentials of Senator Obama. If it weren't for community organizers and people believing things should be different-the United States wouldn't be what it is today. Tell all those men, women and children that fought for civil rights and our other rights that community organizers do nothing-this if for blacks, women, gun owners, gays & lesbians... This is how much Gov. Palin thinks of everything this nation stands for-we are just peons in her world.

First it betrays a complete misunderstanding how terrorists are organized. Al-Queda, like most underground movements, depends on cell organization that keeps numerous operations going at any given time.
Second it makes the assumption that there are a constant number of terrorists that can be reduced through military action when in fact our invasion of Iraq has created far more terrorist than it has destroyed.
Third, this person seems to think the only possible way to combat terrorism is through military invasions rather than good intelligence work, cooperation with foreign intelligence, hard police work and proper funding in critical areas. Don't believe me? Check and see how many incoming crates (from ships) get checked before being allowed into this country.
