Oh yeah .... Obama has shown throughout his political history to pander to the slimy Chicago politicians. He NEVER stood against corrupt pols --- he ENDORSED them. I don't trust him. What is wrong with you racists? Every black man is not out to get "whites or jews". Obama has repudiated his preacher and Farrakhan but McBush embraces hate-spewing, white evangelical preachers and seeks their support. Your racism is showing and it's so sad you don't recognize that. So people cannot think for themselves? That people should give up any matter that seems hopeless to them, since it is "God's Will"? , since God controls everything and they do not? So people should give all responsibility to God, since He controls everything? So man should simply "feel" what is right?

If that was the thinking, mankind wouldn't be where it is now. Planes? God did not send a message saying "Thou shalt build an airplane" complete with blueprints. It was made by *thinking* minds. The Wright brothers did not pray for models. They THOUGHT.

Who ever said atheists were always rational?
The only thing a thinking man needs is his own judgement, and does not care for the control of others. The ones who you mentioned, Stalin, Hitler, and the like, were products of irrationality. Think of it as school bully. Alone, he is powerless, so to feel needed he gathers cronies and rules them by force. A thinking man convinces his opponents using logic and reasoning, while the brute and the mystic wins their opponents by force and "supernatural power", respectively.
Stalin denounced logic:
"Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don't allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?"

Ignorance of history speaking. In the European countries each country had a state authorized religion. Those who didn"t publicly followed another religion were harrassed at least and subject to the government stepping in and punishing them. That was part of the problem between Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Mary ended up losing her head.
Reply
With this background the Puritans, Pilgrims, Quakers and many others came here for religious freedom to practice as they chose. In the early going some colonies tried to establish that here. This is basic American history. You should have learned this in school.
The establishment clause says that no specific denomination can be established as the state church thus denying the freedom to practice other versions of Christianity. In fact if any Denomination tried to do away with that clause and get themselves to be the established religion ALL other denominations would rise as a single voice to stop it. Yet secularists and atheists are always saying that Christians are trying to take over the government.
What Dionys wants to ignore is that Christians have equal rights to espouse anything they want anywhere they want. Just like the secularists and atheists rant about Christians anywhere they want.-

What is interesting to note, however, is that each town that tended to be heavily Puritan, Quaker, et cetera tended also to heavily discriminate against Christians of other Protestant sects. So it wasn't so much Freedom of Religion as Freedom from State Oppression that allowed local Oppression against the 'other sects.' Something you should have learned in school, too.
Christians have equal rights to espouse anything they want, certainly. When they do so as Governor in an official capacity or base their political decisions on religious reasons, however, they are breaking the spirit of the law if not the letter.
If she wants to give speeches as 'Sarah Palin, Christian' that's great. All the more power to her, no matter how vile, disgusting, hateful or discriminatory they are. However if she gives the speeches as "Sarah Palin, Governor" she is violating the law and even more so if she is violating the constitution of the United States by pushing her various forms of discrimination and hatred. It doesn't say "All men are created equal, except gays or Jews."-

What you talked about as part of the colonial times is partly why the establishment clause. Freedom of speech and religion says that ANYBODY can say ANYTHING they want ANYTIME they want so long as it is not causing harm like crying "fire" in a crowded building or telling lies about another person. Although telling them about public people is acceptable for some reason. Our presidents, congressmen, governors, legislatures, etc down to city people have prayed in meetings and called for others to pray for things. Why all of a sudden do you think that that practice has been changed. Just because of your hate for it. Tough luck. It is a right that Americans enjoy. If you don't like it go elsewhere where it is not allowed. China for example.

You might want to research the God they are referencing in those prayers! Certainly no mention of a Trinity or the divinity of Christ!
Reply
The religious beliefs of the late 1700's would be unfamiliar to most evangelicals of today. If the Founding Fathers had intended for this to be a Christian nation that nation would have quickly dissolved due to disputes amongst the Puritans, Quakers, Methodists, and Catholics, etc. Just to name a few of the major denominations of the time. It is why we have national documents not an amalgamation of state charters, many of which referenced Christ at the time. That certainly wasn't going to fly with Jefferson. The Founding Fathers were far too wise for this. Read your history, it was a relatively short discussion.-

All of the denominations you talk about back then had documents of what they adhered to. To try and say that they did not believe the same things as the conservative Christians of the present denominations that have come down to today is completely wrong. The core beliefs of all of them back than as well as today can be summed up in the different Creeds that were created to separate the true Christians from the different heresies when they were created over a millennia ago. These creeds mandate the divinity of Christ, The trinity, the reason he came, etc.
Reply
The founding fathers saw this as a Christian nation where the Christians were part and parcel of the country. No one denomination controlling by having "tests" peculiar to that denomination for admittance to being part of this country.-

There are currently about 36,000 different sects of Christianity. They all have somewhat differing beliefs or they would be part of another sect. Some believe the handling of snakes is the way and some believe that glossolalia is where the truth comes out (though you can't understand a word of it). Some like Swaggart condemn all who believe differently from their specific interpretation. They do not all share the same core beliefs. Thomas Jefferson would hardly be called a "Christian" in many churches today. He clearly rejected the divinity argument. Wrote his own Bible redacting those accounts. And for the 2nd time today I must quote Jefferson:
Reply
Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom
Just stop! A nation that had a majority of citizens claiming to be Christians, is not a Christian Nation. Don't you even know why the Puritans fled England? It was the exact religious tyranny that you would wish to impose. My God man, come to your senses! We are ALL Americans, not all Christians!-
-

Endoscopy1 year, 3 months ago
This comment is below the standard viewing threshold View It »
What you are ignoring is that back when the Creeds were developed there were many of the same things being believed. Those creeds were created for the purpose of defining what Christian belief was. Any deviation from those core beliefs means that the person or group is NOT a Christian even if they call themselves that. They were guilty of heresy and were not to be considered Christians.
Reply
If I say that I am a Christian and believe that Jesus was just a good man and a profit I have denied the creeds so I am not really a Christian even if I call myself one. Going away from the core beliefs I can have disagreements with any denomination I wish. But that does not make me a non Christian or them if we all hold to those creeds. That was the purpose for which they were created. Each one was directed against some specific heresy. The Nicene creed was directed at the heresy I gave as an example. "Jesus is very God of Very God" is part of that creed. This was directed at those who were saying that Jesus was just a prophet and a man. There are a lot of different heresies that have been around since the second or third century. They are cloaked in different names but they are the same old heresies in a different wrapper.
Most of those 36,000 have minor differences. But many of them are not really Christians because they don't adhere to the creeds.
This Country was founded by Christians. It was thought of by the founding fathers as a Christian nation. That does not mean that everyone was supposed to be a Christian. Part of the purpose of the constitution was that people like Jefferson and Franklin could believe as they liked and nobody would hold that against them. You are mistaking what the vast majority were for a forcing which was not there. Why do you confuse the two facts. The country was very largely Christian until the 60's. When and where in all of that time was anybody forced to be a certain kind of Christian or a Christian at all. We welcomed the Jews and other religions. But you people keep saying we are trying to impose our beliefs on you when the reverse is true. The liberal atheists keep ridiculing people who believe and say we are foolish. Just look at the posts on this thread. They keep pushing Christianity out of places and let any other New Age religion practice and have meetings where Christians are prohibited. Then you say we are trying to impose our will on you. Hypocrites.

So she spoke to a group of graduating evangelical students and you didn't think she would or should mention the word pray? The Senate, where Mr. Obama is supposed to have an office opens each session with a prayer. Where or what did this harm? That she dared to actually visit a school to talk? She suggested prayers? Every president has closed with "God Bless America." in speeches and address before congress, is that now forbidden? I think the left needs to stop looking for dirt where there really isn't any and start looking for reasons we should actually consider voting for Obama. His weak resume, lack of any leadership and his general "messiah" comments have damaged him far worse that telling a bunch of churchy school kids to pray for a pipeline.

Actually there are genetics labs trying to do that as we speak. There is a very good chance that the "gay" gene could be manipulated out of the genetic pool. While scary for some it could have potential benefits in the future. No more shrinks for people coming out. No more families falling apart because of a parent that can't handle something. Take a pill, change the chemical balance, or whatever and the gay population ceases to exist. And this all from some of your largest supporters for abortions and stem cell research.

Oh give me a break. Please show me the invoices. As to Roe v Wade, in Iraq or any other Islamic nation, they kill abortionists. They have no problem murdering anyone else to in the name of Islam including fellow Muslims. The only abortions permitted are done with court approval and only to save the life of the mother. I don't think rape is an excuse. Only to save the mother. So being a Christian is actually less dangerous than being an abortionist in Iraq. Perhaps you'd like to go there and discuss this in a mosque. I suspect you wouldn't fare to well.

Who would have believe that the previous administrations walls set up between the different intelligence agencies that prevented sharing information that could have prevented 9/11. Each had a piece but nobody could share that information. Ms. Rice had only a piece. She was not allowed to have access to the rest.
Who would have believed that the committees that were supposed to maintain the levies around New Orleans used the money for statues, buildings and parks with only cosmetic work on the levies.
This is fun. Do some more.-

Hey Moron!! If Clinton had a chance to catch Osama Bin Laden and didn't and that seems to be your biggest sticking point right now. What about Bush?
Reply
Why the hell aren't you railing against a president who has spent 7 years avoiding even looking for him. And this is AFTER 3,000 Americans were killed by him. Not before. See the difference? After!
So where is your rage against him? He even attacked another country instead of going to the country where we KNEW HE WAS! Bush doesn't want Laden captured because then the support for his war will completely dissappear.
So Bush bears NO RESPONSIBILITY for what went on during his 8 years. Huh? No responsibility whatsoever for anything that went on during his years as president? Not even when he bullied congress into giving him more powers than any president before him?
You are pathetic. I hope you are getting some money from him. That's got to be the only way that you can say these things with a straight face.

Are you better off now than you were under Clinton?

As for security:
Who would have guessed that attempting to turn over our Port Security to an Arab country (who sees bin Laden as the only legitimate ruler of Afghanistan) and who provided most of the passports of the 9/11 hijackers.
Who would have thought that moving funds from the major American Cities to places that the terrorists could find on a map would protect America.
Who would have guessed that having porous boarders and encouraging illegals to enter to provide low cost labor was the way to protect America;
Who would have guessed that failing to protect the Levies of New Orleans was the best was to protect America;
Who would have guessed that sending troops into battle without protection and telling them do dig deeper in the junk piles of Iraq if they wanted better armor;
Who would have guessed that DISREGARDING Clinton's administrations warning about bin Lade was the best way to protect America.
Ms. Rice, what was the title of the CIA report that you disregarded?
"Oh you mean: Arab terrorists planning to hijack American planes and attack American cities?
What about it?" -

country's sake)then we are all doomed. More Bush failures everywhere- economics, rights, and freedoms gone, way bigger government and most important Supreme Court appointees. These right wing nut jobs will appoint anti freedom anti american judges who will continue to destroy the U.S. constitution. But you right wing nut jobs do not seem to care about America. That is ok. Hopefully there are enough true americans(anybody but a republican) who will vote for what is right. Btw, Bush has not kept us safe from anything, because of Bush there will be more terrorist attacks in America.-

Let's look at your ignorant comments. First what freedoms did you lose? Communications with your communist/terrorist friends? Not really, you can still call them. They may listen in, but you still can call. Taking your shoes off or not carrying in a box cutter? Too bad. Speech? I didn't see the protesters arrested and made to disappear. They may go to jail for the damage or danger of their actions but no one was murdered or simply disappeared.

At to the courts, how many people died as a result of the supreme court? How many people were aborted? How many died on death row? How many murders walked because his rights were not explained only to kill again?
The GOP isn't your enemy. We don't take your freedoms away. Unless you mean murder, rape or general pillaging. If you do, yes we restrict it. You still can worship in a church, temple, synagogue, mosque, or whatever. You still have freedom of speech. You still can go anywhere in the USA you want. You can go to school and become anything you want. Race & gender are no longer an issue. Again, what rights are you worried about?-

People like Palin scare me. I have no problem with them pursuing their own beliefs. However it is part of their religion that they have to impose their belief on everyone else. They call themselves Pro Lifers when really they are Anti-Choice. They act on their choice but no one else can have that privilege. The writer who compared them to Jihdists isn't so far off the mark at all. I just hope in the coming weeks she puts her foot in her mouth once too often so people can see who they are electing.

You guys love those terms. Pro-Choice, Anti-Abortion. Well, let's really talk about what they really should be. I am Pro-Life, you clearly are Pro Death. Choice? Aborting a fetus, be it with a little pill or scisors, suction hose and forceps when the child is in the 8th month of pregnancy still requires the killing of an unborn child. Two people with their own distinct heart beats enter the clinic, but only one will come out alive.

Here's an idea. You want choice? Perhaps you should consider choosing rubbed or plain before you go any further. It's far less expensive and far less a problem. You can even find them in gas station bathrooms. It also reduces the chances of Aids and other STD's. Oh, that would also cut into your Planned Parent funding of the DNC though.

I was before a Senate panel to propose energy alternatives. My division is a part of a huge conglomerate. We build energy plants and process systems for the oil, gas, nuclear and like industries. Biden had a chance to ask questions. After a 10 minute talk about his life, what hotel I was staying in, the meal he had that day, weather and the like, he did get around to asking a question. It wasn't on the topic, had nothing to do with the production of energy and made me think he was a moron, he proved he isn't the brightest bulb in the DNC. The only reason Barack selected him was simple. He will never outshine him.

Biden is an admitted plagiarist. He even stole the resume of a British politician. Barack will never be outclassed by this guy but he might be brought down by him. An old DC insider with a very long history. I wonder when the press will ask him why he promised to vote for McCain? I've noticed a lot of "Spam" claims so I'll post this below in case this is claimed to be spam.-

This is the question I'd like to hear. Joe, why did you say you'd vote for or even run with John McCain if the other choice was Obama. Talk about flipping.

WE MUST FINISH WITH THIS KIND OF ATHEIST AND COMMUNIST COMMENTS. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS A JUDEO CHRISTIAN COUNTRY. AS CHRISTIANS, CATHOLICS, JEWS, ORTHODOXS, ETC. WE BELIEVE AND WORSHIP THE UNIQUE REAL AND ALMIGHTY GOD OF ISRAEL: " I AM THAT I AM" WE MUST BE HAPPY TO HAVE A REPUBLICAN CHRISTIAN WOMAN WHO HONOR TO THE GOD OF THE CHRISTIAN FOUNDERS OF THIS BIG NATION...SHE WAS NOT USING THE ALASKAN STATE MONEY FOR HER PERSONAL PROFIT, BY CONTRAST SHE WAS ENCOURAGING TO THE NEW GENERATIONS TO BE STRONG AND FAITHFUL BELIEVING IN GOD WE TRUST.

The United States is thankfully a country of different people with an amazing variety of faith traditions and beliefs.

By the way, you forgot "Muslims" among your Judeo-Christian list. They, after all, are an Abrahamaic religion and as such worship the exact same 'God' that you say Christians and Jews worship. I wonder if there was a reason you forgot this group?-

Muslims do not, I repeat do not worship the same god as Christians and Jews.

The concept of a Holy God is a foreign one to Islam. I believe that word is used about three times in the Quran. While one verse in the Old Testament uses the word three times in a row to describe God. This means that God can not allow sin into His presence. This is not a concept in Islam.
Isaiah 6:3
And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."
From it comes the concept of the Holy God needing a blood sacrifice to wash away the sin of the people. Without the washing away the sins God will never allow a person into his presence. This is not an Islamic concept either.
This concept along with God's mercy through the shed blood leads to the concept of Jesus the perfect Lamb of God being a sacrifice for all. This also is not an Islamic concept. But it starts with the concept of a Holy Holy Holy God.

I agree with the person who wants church and state to be seperate. If not, we run the risk of becoming like some Islamic country, where the Koran is the law of the land. Religion can be a very positive force, but please keep it out of government.

This entire one-sided article is about 8 mns. of an old speech, which no one has a recording of.
And oh my!! She spent $520 on one round trip... Gee, that's BIG news. No one has said (that speaks the whole truth anyway) she walked 10 miles to her office, barefoot in the snow or something.
I wonder what Obama, Biden, Clinton and more in Government have spent tax dollars on? We should go through all these others stuff with a microscope too. Care to make a bet on who has wasted more?
Come on, it's obvious by the new poll results that people aren't buying witch hunt fanatics attempts to trash candidates on a personal level and are seeing through the Bush scare tactics too.
Sarah Palin is not for the big oil companies at all. She went after them and won. She also ran a boat load of corrupt politicians out of political office along the way. She balanced the state budget too by taking special interest groups to task and vetoing wasteful spending.
That is more like it! -
