Where did he mention Sarah Palin in that speech? He was talking about policies.

That is not what his audience thought. While the phrase in the context of his speech was a descriptive phrase it is not funny. As soon as he said "You can put lipstick on a pig" the audience erupted with laughter. They laughed even louder when he finished his sentence.

It is either a stupid thing to say after Gov. Palin's comment or it was planned. Either way it says something about Obama.

I agree that comment wasn't directed at Palin. Its just a saying.

Regardless of the intent that is your perception, not mine.

When my wife heard Obama's statement she oouldn't believe she heard it. She immeadiatly took it as Obama calling Sarah a pig. It's a matter of perception and I can promise you millions of people feel the same way. Where do you think Obama got the word lipstick in this election? Clearly it first came from Sarah Palin. It may be just a saying, but far from a coincidence.

If Hillary was in Sarah's shoes under the same circumstances I wonder how that would play out. Would you still think the policy was the pig?

I said that EXACT line the day after McCain chose her for the ticket.
It is idiotic to try and make some offensive sexist remark out of -
          "Putting lipstick on a pig".
It refers to dressing up a bad idea to see if it can be made acceptable
after a superficial repackaging of the exact same bad idea.
          NO APOLOGY necessary. Get real.
And, I'll bet Pat Buchanan will be crushed to find out that
Gov. Palin was not a Buchanan supporter. It has been a major
topic of conversation on Morning Joe(MSNBC) where old Pat
is a constant commentator. They seem to think she was and
Buchanan has been beaming about it. Maybe someone should
          tell them - eh?

The problem is that he said that after a very widely known joke that Palin told.

"What is the difference between a soccer mom and a pit bull? A socer mom wears lipstick."

Obama's audience thought it was aimed at Palin otherwise why the laughter erupting. By itself it is just descriptive not funny.

Riiiight - Lipstick is now a word only Republicans may use
without fear. Thanks for the update.
But what about McCain saying the same thing referring to Hillary's
health care plan - which he did. He was just being factual??
