There are strange happenings in the world of international jurisprudence that do not bode well for the future of free speech. In an unprecedented case, a Jordanian court is prosecuting 12 Europeans in an extraterritorial attempt to silence the debate on radical Islam.

The style of the writing makes it clear that the writer is not in good terms with the religion of Islam. He is supposed to know international law... but don't know female genital mutilation is not part of the Shariat law. It is not practiced in all Islamic countries. It is only practiced in African countries and that practice has more to do with African culture than any religious law. I wonder why WSJ published such a stupid op-ed that bends facts. Of course I agree it is outrageous to prosecute anyone who criticizes. I believe Islam prohibits compulsion, isn't this act of prosecution compulsion? Another question, asking women from outside of Islam to cover their head, isn't that compulsion? So most of these governments are not exactly Islamic. The Shariat law is for the individual, I don't know either in Quran or in the sayings of the prophet it says to implement anything by force even by the state. Looks like the governments in the Arab world have stepped way out of Islam. That's why these kinda prosecution happened.
During my readings of life of the Prophet, I read an incident when a nomadic Arab came and peed inside the mosque. When people tried to beat him up the prophet said, leave that man and you all go and clean the mosque. If that don't teach these Arabs what tolerance means. I believe the Arabs lost the very essence of Islam itself. Then why are they prosecuting non muslims who are not even from their country.
U.N will pass any law, but as it is for every religion... I think there is a justification but if that law is to do these kinda prosecution. UN better not exist.

muhari, thanks first of all for giving your opinion. When I said the state cannot impose sharia upon people. It was in reference with the Quranic verse, "There is no compulsion in religion" that applies to both Muslims and non Muslims. See, a wider interpretation of that one verse, one cannot even ask another Muslim to do anything. One cannot even ask a Muslim woman to wear the veil. Then how can the state implement any law upon people. If you want to know how an Islamic state works, you should read about the times of the first four Caliphs then you can see that they did not forced anyone to do anything. Just kept law and order. It is the very reason many invaders invaded and convert to Islam. Well those times are gone because the Islamic countries left the way(true sharia) long time back...
