The Pakistanis have been gearing up to put an end to US imperialism in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Frankly I think the suppression of "terrorists" in the area would be much more efficient if the Pakistanis would pull the plug (see below) and take on themselves the responsibility of seeing that international attacks are not generated from Afghanistan and Waziristan. As the Bush administration has amply demonstrated, otherwise national resistance to foreign, western powers (who are not particularly interested in the civilian population) leads to augmentation of "terrorist" groups by giving them nationalistic support.

Turning Away From American State Terrorism
Reply
In Pakistan we find the complete history of the American “war on terrorism,” from its Cold War origins nearly thirty years ago to its present incarnation in the illegal American aggression in Pakistan’s Frontier region (FATA, Federally Administered Tribal Areas) and in American attempts to reignite the Cold War with Russia.

Video shows US military lying about killing Afghan civilians
Reply
On August 22, the US military reported that an airstrike in Herat province killed 30 militants and no civilians. It didn' t take long for locals and Afghan officials to dispute this report , claiming that the toll included scores of civilians. The toll rose as bodies were pulled from the rubble, rising to at least 90 civilians , a count later confirmed by a United Nations investigator . The US however stuck to its original account, revising the number only slightly to include seven civilians killed. The US has also accused villagers who claimed higher numbers killed of spreading Taliban propaganda. However, a video has emerged which seems to dispute the US military' s account and support the accounts of every other agency.

This week, Obama claimed, again, that he'd promptly capture Osama bin Laden. OK, tell me how: Specifically, which concrete measures would he take that haven't been taken? How would he force our intelligence agencies to locate bin Laden? And he can't just respond, "That's classified."
He also claimed that fighting terrorism is a law-enforcement problem, not a military one (should we send the NYPD to Mosul and Kandahar?), and that the answer to terrorism is the approach taken after the 1993 World Trade Center attack, featuring conventional trials and prison terms.

You are theorizing on how his suggestions won't work. It is very possible you are correct, but you may be incorrect also.
Reply
Would you like to take a shot at what hasn't work in reality for the last 7 years? Much more to work with than just a person talking about what he would do. You have the opportunity now to talk about those that are allegedly the doers and what they have or haven't done, and there is a lot of promises that were never made good on. Please feel free to reflect upon what it has cost the US in lives, casualties, and resources and what benefit we have received for those efforts.
I am guessing that you will not really want to respond.
I am in no way suggesting Obama is right in his comments. I am suggesting that the efforts of the admin have been just as worthless. So now that we have an idea of what doesn't work, do we continue the failed efforts and policies or do we look to new ideas? -

And the buffoons in this country continue to vote for more of the same. I find it quite humorous when these people complain about taxes and then not complain about all the money being needlessly spent in Iraq. The National Debt went from $5 trillion to $10 trillion under Bush alone. It completely amazes me that these people can't see 2 feet in front of them. Maybe, they think they all can be like Donald Trump and file bankruptcy and still keep $billions as a result.

You mean that Pakistan is protecting the terrorists of the Taliban and al Qaeda who invade Afghanistan, attack positions there and then go back into Pakistan? This is a just thing to do?
You and the others that think that is an acceptable solution are very foolish. If Pakistan can't keep those people inside their own border then things like this will happen. Why is it OK for those terrorists to cross the border and kill mostly innocent Muslims? -

Here are some important facts you should consider other than your myopic partisanship.
Reply
In response to America's uninvited attacks on Pakistan's sovereign territory, Pakistan has already cut off oil supplies to imperial troops in Afghanistan. This will weaken and isolate American efforts in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is in drought and that means famine is looming. People are more likely to take up arms against US troops, not because of ideology, but because of a shortage of the basic necessities of life.
Winter is coming. Winter destroyed Russia in Afghanistan, you wouldn't want history to repeat itself.
Pakistan is nuclear armed. In addition, it shares a very large border with Iran. Alienate Pakistan and neighbours will become very close friends.
Attempt to sanction Pakistan or withhold what has already been offered and Russia will step in to fill the void. America has renewed hostilities with Russia over Georgia and missiles in Poland. Russia is strengthening ties with the likes of Iran, Syria and now Venezuela.
As you can see, there is much you should be thinking about beyond what Obama thinks, or what McCain thinks, or what Bush thinks. The question is, now that reality trumps partisanship as it always has done, what do you think?-

Obama has also said he'd send our troops into Pakistan, although he'll withdraw rapidly from Iraq. His unwillingness to discuss the consequences of a hasty retreat from Baghdad is one thing - but invading Pakistan would be an order of magnitude worse.-

In this same file you have justified Bush for imprisoning the "terrorists" and not giving them a trial under the guise of keeping our governments secrets from the terrorists AND condemned Obama for doing the same thing.

Not everybody knows; fewer than half the people do. Why is it happening? Greed. Who is gaining? Those who manufacture weapons, those who manipulate oil prices and speculate in oil, those who can take away what others have.

People know it on some level. Of course, half the people are below average in intelligence, by definition, so there is that.
Reply
It's a machine that took on a life of its own. First Bin Laden, then Afghanistan, and then the Iraq side-track. And many stand to gain from it.
Whoever has Bin Laden hidden away has a lot to gain as well, I suspect. It's about power and wealth (as it always is).
But there are plenty of bloodthirsty dictators, kings, and other heads of state worldwide, so don't think the end of Bush's tenure will end the world's problems. It's like whack-a-mole, and no country is immune. -

Of course nikkibabe. We send suicide bombers all over the place. We attacked the Twin Towers and faked it to look like it was Muslim terrorists. We are in the Palestinian groups supplying the rockets and weapons for them to use. We are blowing up and killing people everywhere we go. We are coming for Sweden next.

Somehow I think Obama (though he has said he'd strike within Pakistan if all other options were exhausted) would find another way to motivate the Pakistani government to give us more help.

And if another country sent bombers to strike somewhere within the U.S., what would you call it? -

Honestly, FairNBalanced, if I hadn't thought that was what Klarissa was trying to say I would not have written the response I did. I'm not in it to berate Klarissa, or anyone else, or to twist their meaning.

I'm not sure what you mean by "you guys" but I can only say I am a NAV, or non-aligned voter for a reason and that would be because I am not a member of any "you guys". I can assure you as well that I have yet to find myself sitting back and saying what you seem to think I said.
It would seem to me that if a great deal were truly at stake the current administration would not have waited several years before making this move, but perhaps they were biding their time and lulling the enemy into a false sense of security. I don't know.
You're correct, "invasion" was excessive, I used the word because it appeared to me that Klarissa was stating Sen. Obama was in a kind of rush to invade Pakistan. (I've heard him say he'd do such a thing as a last resort but it hardly seems appropriate to use the errors of the Bush White House to demonize Sen. Obama's yet to be realized foreign policy).

What the full-rights-for-terrorists advocates fail to comprehend is that our judicial processes - so dear to us - are viewed by terrorists as a means to advance their cause, to embarrass us, to reveal our intelligence methods and to perpetuate their martyr myth.

From a leading English-language newspaper in Pakistan:
Reply
"There is an escalating sense of furious impotence among the ordinary people of Pakistan. Many -- perhaps most -- of them are strongly opposed to the spread of Talibanisation and extremist influence across the country; people who may be described as 'moderates'. Many of them have no sympathy for the mullahs and their burning of girls' schools and their medieval mindset. But if you bomb a moderate sensibility often enough it has a tendency to lose its sense of objectivity and to feel driven in the direction of extremism. If America bombs moderate sensibilities often enough you may find that its actions are the best recruiting sergeant that the extremists ever had -- and the extremists will be quietly delighted at the civilian deaths as they know that more feet will turn to the path that leads to their door."

It has been clear for some time that the bush administration failed in afghanistan. The only questions left are how many more people they will kill before leaving office and whether they will persist with starting further wars all around the world (Georgia, Iran) before leaving office in an attmept to preempt our next president.
