Daniel...don't fret it. The facts do not matter to these people. This is more of the last gasp of Democrat defeat, snatched, once again, from the jaws of victory. Everyone that will vote has already made a choice. What we are hearing now is ankle biting.

What a bunch of foolish people here thinking that the term Bush Doctrine is something concrete and easily definable. For starters it is a term made up by journalists to talk about what they think Bush policies are. The people here posting what it is are very clueless. There are 5 to 7 different things that are called this.

That individual has a proven record of not being able to run a small town. She was forced by state republicon officials into hiring an administrator to run her small town for her. Most towns that size don't even have a full time mayor. and she still managed to leave it with a $22 million debt. And the high school has had it's funding cut at the same time the population was growing. Did I mention that her own children attend that school? Now that is true republicon family values!

However even from the imperialist oligarch point of view, considering
the "interests" the US has in the region how can you defend such an irresponsible action? You agree with Palin (who incidentally claims Jews are sinners who must be converted to evangelical sects or burn in heck) that the U;S, should unquestioningly do whatever Israel politicians tells it to do?
This is one of the troubling facets of the Bush Cheney PNAC declaration.
Sounds like more of the same to me.
The idea that making idyll threats will solve a problem better than discussing a problem with the parties actually involved does not seem to have any historical support. -

The most telling answer was when she was asked if Israel were to call and say they were going to bomb Iran. How would you respond? The response was "we would not second guess Israel. " That is the most insane take on foreign policy I've ever heard. Even Bush could have hidden his ignorance better.

I don't know whether there is a Bush Doctrine or not, but had someone asked me that question, I wouldn't have known what it was. Perhaps it's just because I want to forget him as soon as possible and don't want to associate anything permanent with his name, but it would have stumped me.
That wasn't the disappointing part though; that could have happened to anyone. The disappointing part came later when she didn't answer the question even when it was explained to her. -

He promises to ensure the middle class is thriving and growing.
He will increase investments in infrastructure, energy independence, education, and research and development; modernize and simplify our tax code so it provides greater opportunity and relief to more Americans; and implement trade policies that benefit American workers.
Barack Obama said at the Chicago Foreign Affairs Council, April 23, 2007 "Our country's greatest military asset is the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States. When we do send our men and women into harm's way, we must also clearly define the mission, prescribe concrete political and military objectives, seek out advice of our military commanders, evaluate the intelligence, plan accordingly, and ensure that our troops have the resources, support, and equipment they need to protect themselves and fulfill their mission."
I kind of like that.
He agreed with me, at a time when it was an extremely unpopular opinion, that invading Iraq was stupid.
His campaign is primarily financed by 2over 2 million small donors.
So it's me and 2 million other regular type Americans whom he owes his political soul to, not some multinational.

Ben Smith of the Politico said the Bush Doctrine exchange was not a great moment for Palin. But he conceded that critics are unfairly pouncing on Sarah Palins apparent unfamiliarity with the Bush Doctrine as last nights gaffe.
Reply
This isnt an easy question, Smith noted. Commentators have offered a range of meanings for the phrase, from the principle that countries that harbor terrorists are responsible for their actions to broader statements about the spread of freedom.
Starr added: Preemptive war; American unilateralism; the overthrow of regimes that harbor and abet terrorists all of these things and more have been described as the Bush Doctrine. It was a bit of a sham on Gibsons part to have pretended that theres such a thing as the Bush Doctrine, much less that it was enunciated in September 2002. -

This is the person people think would be a good President in case something happened to the sitting President? As far as her going in there and shaking up things, that's a fallacy as well. Lockey, if the government acquires something, buys it outright or has it gifted, it belongs to you, me, and the homeless person down the street. That's the ethics of government. If I, working for the state, sell state property for something, I go to jail and the person buying can go to jail for receiving state property. Thems the rules.
Reply
RFE's argument is logically sound, and the check you got is from the sale of property bought and paid for by the purchasers of Alaska (including mineral rights).
Just as the gov't, in order to bail out your oil company, released reserves and then sold them to others rather than reducing the price of US oil. Your oil company gave you a check, which makes you accessory after the fact in the resale of government property.

dandt, we rarely disagree, but on this issue, I have to wholeheartedly say she is simply not qualified to be manager of a convenience store, let alone a state budget (aka Alaska) or Vice President of the United States. She has not got the slightest idea of what the Bush Doctrine is, arguably the most botched resemblance of a foreign policy that has come from Washington DC in 8 years.
Reply
Two follow-up points to my comment are simply I heard yesterday on NPR that she would consider an invasion of Russia if Medvedev does not withdraw troops from South Ossetia and Abkhazia (she could not find either of those on a map). Her state borders Russia, and I wonder if she is in favor of a cross the Bering Strait invasion.
Second, we cannot afford to alienate any more of our allies around the world. Saber rattling at Putin and Medvedev over disputed Georgian territory will not help any of our social or economic causes anywhere. A vote for McCain and Palin is, to borrow the phrase from the 1970s, a guarantee for mutually assured destruction. -

Yes, Sarah Palin didn't know what it is. But neither does Charlie Gibson. And at least she didn't pretend to know – while he looked down his nose and over his glasses with weary disdain, sighing and "sounding like an impatient teacher," as the Times noted. In doing so, he captured perfectly the establishment snobbery and intellectual condescension that has characterized the chattering classes' reaction to the mother of five who presumes to play on their stage."

It's not. It's the third in a series and was superseded by the fourth and current definition of the Bush doctrine, the most sweeping formulation of the Bush approach to foreign policy and the one that most clearly and distinctively defines the Bush years: the idea that the fundamental mission of American foreign policy is to spread democracy throughout the world. It was most dramatically enunciated in Bush's second inaugural address: "The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world."

Like too many women, Sarah Palin talks a lot. Unfortunately talking a lot of a good way to show your ignorance. She thinks foreign experience is equated with the fact that Alaska is so close to Russia, you can see the Russian mainland from some vantage points. And she equates her knowledge of the military with the fact that she can command the Alaska National Guard (which she never has.) Her answers are not simplistic--they are simple-minded. She's not even as smart as George Bush. But hopefully she will never be vice president--much less president.
