Comments for Woman jailed for wearing shorts »
Posted By JamesMarcus 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsA 28-year-old Kentucky woman was ordered to serve three days in jail after a judge found her in contempt of court for inappropriate dress. Kirstie Arnold of Lancaster, Kentucky, was sent to the Boyle County Jail after wearing short shorts during a court appearance Monday before Garrard District Judge Janet Booth.
Booth had warned Arnold about her clothes in two previous court appearances, and in the last appearance had fined Arnold $50 for her attire. A court videotape of Monday’s proceeding contains the following exchange: "Why shouldn't I put you in jail for contempt today?" Booth asked. "I told you twice." Arnold replied: "I'm sorry." "No, you're not," said Booth. "I told you twice. I even fined you for being in contempt. Why shouldn't I throw you in jail today?" To which Arnold responded: "I forgot." To hear Arnold talk about the judge's ruling, take a look at the video below.

When I was in college and in court for going a little to fast on my motorcycle, I watched a judge throw a kid (fellow college student) in jail for 2 day for laughing and not taking the proceedings seriously (he was also there for going a little to fast).

What really makes no sense is what is in the news story. She did not get out of jail in 3 days. She had brought a drug to the courtroom. She was caught taking it from her purse and putting it in her pocket. She ended up having several more charges against her. What kind of fool brings drugs to a court and wears cloths that they have been ordered not to wear and been fined already for wearing. This woman is brain dead.

Moral of the story: Judges, like Police Officers often stomp on civil rights and become more like dictators who let that the power go to their inflated heads. The stupidest characters in these cases are the judges who should show that they are unbiased in all cases. NOT. ACLU case for sure.

I was a witness and had to go to Hamilton Co. Courthouse multiple times and was appauled at what people were wearing. Belly shirts, hats, baggy pants and sweatshirts, and much worse. Some people have mentioned age on here and I just want to say I'm 23 and would never consider wearing anything less than suit pants and dress shirt. I think it shows lack of respect for themselves, the judge, and the law when people show up looking like they don't care.

I'm almost 60 years old and have never been arrested and in court. This is a young girl who has already been arrested and in court numerous times. Obviously she has other problems of which at least two are that she has never been taught repsect or accountability. All she did was blame someone else. I've heard it a million times. -

Oh, I agree! We got caught in this mortgage crunch and had to declare bankruptcy in order to stop them foreclosing on our home. When we got to court, I saw people who looked as if they ought to be on a street corner either as pimps or hookers. One woman had on a tight-fitting t-shirt, and WAY too much tummy to wear anything tight, and it had one long sleeve on the right while her left shoulder and arm were bare. When she turned around I expected to see a totally glammed up face, but she had no makeup on at all and did she EVER need at least a little bit -- plainer than a mud fence. Not only was the blouse totally inappropriate, but the whole look was entirely off the hook. If you like dressing that way, that's your business, but when you're going to court, TRY to look business like and respectable! One gal and her man not only looked like they belonged on a street corner, but they had on all KINDS of EXPENSIVE looking jewelry, and there they were in bankruptcy court! ????????????????

I live in Hamilton Ohio and have been to court. I almost fell over when I saw what people wear to court. Do they not look in the mirror before they leave the house? Its pretty gross. I wonder if they think the Judge will think they are Hot and will get a lighter sentence? Probably, that seems to be the mentality around here. Also you should see what some of the employees wear at the court house, they look like hookers and Im not the first person to say this either. I have heard many other people say this. They wear what appear to be the big platform stripper shoes, mini skirts and you see many bare bellies. EWWWWWWWWWWWW. No class at all

Geeze, the Judge said Don't do it. She did it. Twice. She's probably lucky she only got 3 days. I mean, if I'm in court for anything serious (running over tombstones, drugs, etc) I'm going to listen to the Judge and do as I'm told. The bitch deserves more time in jail.

A judge judging persons based on their dress is violating civil rights. What is next? Jailing people with pierces? Tattoos? If you don't stand up for others who have their rights violated, you may be next. Court should not be a place where NICE CLOTHES have any bearing on a case. The woman was dressed. The judge needs to be benched.

First of all, it's spelled "speech" and second, manner of dress is not freedom of speech. This woman is obviously an idiot and she deserved to go to jail for contempt. She contempuously disreguarded the judge's orders about how she was to present herself in court. That means jail time. She gets no sympathy from me, and she shouldn't from anyone else either. She needs to take responsibility for her own actions, maybe then she wouldn't be in court at all.

Are you that dense? Okay, so never mind that this girl has multiple charges just let her go because the judge wants some respectability in her court room? What planet are you on? This is not a civil rights issue it is a common sense issue. And this girl has none! Have you ever been to court in Kentucky? Obviously not--it states on court room doors that dress needs to appropriate, no hats and no cell phones. I can't ever remember it not saying that . Respect is something that has gone out the window with the younger generation. She wasn't there for a fashion show. She was there to answer to charges for crimes she committed. Bravo to the judge for correcting her behavior--obviously her parents didn't.

Actually, the first amendment right to Freedom of Speech does cover your freedom of expression, which in turn covers her manner of dress.
Reply
I agree that she was wrong and should have appeared in court dressed to make a good impression. The judge did tell her twice.
However, I am afraid she will get a lawyer and go after the judge....
The part of the video clip that truly makes me angry is the tears and the little whiney voice saying that the judge was "picking on her." The woman needs to grow up and stop blaming everyone else for her own decisions, like inappropriate clothing, drinking and driving and knocking over headstones.-

No, it doesn't. There are rulings upon ruling on the first amendment. Go back to school. Freedom of expression as an inalienable right would mean that you could walk around in the nude, in public because you have the right to express your contempt (there's that word again) for the fashions of the times.
Reply
BTW, is it against the law to say you wish that someone would shoot the president? Or is it against the law to say that you are going to shoot the president? One of these statements falls under the first amendment, the other, is an expression. Which is which, kiddies.

You don't even know that the freedom of speech thingy in the 1st Amendment means freedom of the press to speak out against the government. Not freedom for idiots like this dumb blonde to act out in court. She deserves what she got, maybe more. In fact, after all of these court appearances, I can't believe that people are questioning the contempt charge and not asking HER why she's in there in the first place. She's being arrested by cops, not the Judge.

That woman was one of the dumbest people I have ever seen. Clearly by her comments she plans on being an ass and commiting more crimes and being in front of judges again. Totally pathetic and self absorbed. That judge earned her courtroom and can uphold any rules she deems reasonable and appropriate in it. That woman needs to understand that she does not call the shots when she's on someone else's turf. There's a time and a place for everything and revealing clothes in court 3 days in a row after being asked not to just doesn't cut it. Get a clue.

God, what a pathetic loser. She's talking about how "cute" she thought she looked. That's not quite what a court appearance should be about. And the laughable part is she's such a moron that she's going to ask for a change of venue "from now on". How about she just stop doing illegal acts, then she wouldn't need a change of venue and she can dress however she wants.

Court is a different world. When the issues are whether or not people go to jail, and how we value our own laws, "dressing cute" is just not appropriate. Dippy-do had demonstrated either her contempt for the law or her complete and utter cluelessness. Either way, the judge was within the scope of her authority. And what's this about wanting a different judge "next time"? Shouldn't she be more concerned with not having to go back to court?

As a 50 year old who is totally able to wear those "type" of clothes, let me say this...I'm an older woman, and a professional, no one of us is jealous of a little twit that is too self absorbed to do what she was told twice, and fined once for. You apparently are either just as much of a twit of some bozo who thinks this twit is cute. A court of law is not made up of a bunch of jealous old putzes. It a place of that deserves much respect. Members of the judiciary don't really care what you look like; whether or not you are "cute". They care that you have enough respect for yourself to respect the court. And, btw, the court means the judge. She does have the right to determine appropriate attire and speech and how you act. Freedom of expression is not an inalienable right...that what wearing little to no clothing is, not freedom of speech. Oh, and just so that you are sure to know that I could care less what the twit looks like...she is cute. Just dumb as a brick, and a mind is much more interesting than a blond. No attorney is going to fight a decision of contempt, he or she would find themselves in the next cell.

I just find it funny that no one bothers to mention that the judge herself could be jealous because she can't wear something like Ms. Arnold was wearing. Most professional women or older women feel that if they can't wear stuff like that, no one should be able to. As far as her being a stripper, so what if she is. That is still abuse of power. Stripping is legal. I am not one but I still know abuse of power when I see it. I could understand the distraction had someone shown up in lingerie or fully nude, but daisy dukes and a tank top? Come on. It has been 90 degrees for months now. If anyone thinks it is anything other than the judge being jealous and abusing her power, then they are insane. I think she needs to get a great attorney and fight this charge.

It's not surprising that noone jumped to that ludicrous assumption, except someone with a small brain and a stripper mentality. The judge gets up and dresses appropriately everyday for her job why shouldn't someone coming into court who has been warned twice before. That is what is wrong with many people today, anythin goes. Live and let live right? Wrong! In society we have certain rules and if you cannot comply you deserve to be hit hard. I would not expect my son's teachers to come to school with short shorts and tube tops nor my daughter's teacher to wear tight shorts with their package showing no matter how great a teacher they are. Respect is the minimum that we should exhibit in court and in public for that matter.

And the hurricanes have anything to do with Kentucky? Why should a judge in a state court have any worries about what is happening elsewhere when her job has to do with what is going on in that courtroom. The girl was the ignorant one for thinking looking "cute" was more important than being presentable in court. She was told twice before. Obviously she shouldn't get any pity since she's already expecting to be in court again. She needs some sort of help. She's obviously a grown person and should know right from wrong and to listen when someone of legal authority tells you to do something. My 2 year old knows better than this idiot.

When one goes to court, one should look in the mirror and say 'Will I make a good impression?' As my boss once said, if I look like I'd get a cat-call, don't wear it. Proper attire used to be the standard for court, and people see you totally diffrent depending on your attire. How you look is what you sell. It sadly doesn't shock me that after being told TWICE (once for a lack of a bra/support no less! Tacky!) she chose to flaunt herself in front of the judge and not listen to how that court was run. She got what she deserved, and that is that.

I just love interpreting the sentences with misused spellings! Is getting "board" on the golf course anything like getting sex??? AND, NOOOOOO, judges are not in the fashion business. However, this about a person (regardless of gender or looks) being told of the appropriate way to present herself in court; she blatantly disregarded the judge's order.

It is about dressing appropriately and showing respect for the court, which is certainly lacking in society today. I had to appear for a custody hearing recently, and there was another family there in dirty t-shirts, ripped jeans, and the child they were trying to get full custody of was wearing a Budweiser t-shirt. A ten year old in a beer shirt at court sure says to the judge "these people are a good influence on me." There is even a sign posted reminding people of appropriate dress, but I guess that doesn't pertain to certain people.

It would appear that this woman doesn't understand proper attire for a court appearance. Shorts and a babydoll are NOT proper attire (particularly if you're also not wearing a bra). Business casual at the very least is appropriate attire. In fact, the pants and top she wore during the interview were more appropriate attire. The problem here is NOT with the judge. The problem here is with that woman not having any clue what is appropriate to where in different circumstances. Too bad she had to learn the really hard way.

What are the limits of a judge's power? Instead of three days, could he have said 30 days or 3 months? Should the outcome of a case be influenced by anything but the merits of the case? A judge's power should be strictly limited to matters of law. I understand however that when one sees how much power he or she has over people's lives it is tempting to abuse that power.

What an idiotic reply," Most older women are jealous of younger women blah, blah blah..." You are absolutely delusional. I personally look better than many of the young women I see today. On my campus they wear sloppy V.S. sweats and seem to have a pooch in their gut. I have had four children and I am still hot. I have 19 year olds tryin, to kick it with me everyday and not for the same reasons some young hos try to kick it to older men, for their money. That was a blanket statement and maybe you only have your mother and family to refer back to but you can look to hollywood and see a lot of hot mommas like Halle, Sharon Stone, Carmen Electra andPam Anderson who is still the most downloaded woman in the world besides Marilyn Monroe. There are all the women from "Desperate Houswives" who are hot. Janet Jackson and so many more. Yes you have hot younguns like Paris and Jessica S. Brittany or Rihanna, too but they don't really know what sexy is until you are sexy in your mind and not just your body. Which let's be fair it is in the eye of the beholder whether these girls are sexy with their skinny legs and teeny bopper breast. The sexiest thing about a woman is when she is dressed appropriately but still can make a man melt with her eyes. Then and only then are you sexy. Wake up you won't be 5 forever! I bet you aren't even as hot as Madonna and she is 50!!!!

Kpressler, I myself do not dress like that. I am more jeans and a t shirt type of girl, however, who is a judge to say what someone can and cannot wear. We are not in school anymore. The defendant was not wearing anything illegal so I see no problem. Should she had dressed better? Yes. Should she have been arrested due to clothing? No. You cannot arrest someone because of clothing. The clothing was legal and thus should have been left alone. I could understand if she was wearing a thong and bra on the outside of her clothing. No, I do not have a junior high mind. Most older women are jealous of younger women due to the fact that the older women cannot dress sexily and pull stuff like this to feel better. As for having no class at least I am not a second rate *****.

Junior high mind? No, I think you are even more juvenile than that. Even a teenager (if they have been raised to respect the law, and instructed in the ways of common decency) knows better than to dress that way in a courtroom. Jealousy has nothing to do with it. I cannot dress the way the kids today dress, but I have no problem shopping for my daughter and helping her find "cute clothes" even though I myself have not been in a position to wear them since she was born. As I said, it is not jealousy on the judges part, it is the lack of respect and maturity on the part of the defendant (and on your part as well) that is the problem here. Grow up and stop making excuses for those for whom there is no excuse.

This isn't about judges acting as "Fashion Police", this is about showing respect. U wouldn't go to church dressed like a hooker, so why would you go to court dressed that way? She was warned on TWO separate occasions to dress appopriately before returning to court. She may as well have flipped the judge the bird by coming in a third time dressed that way. And instead of asking for a change of venue for future cases, maybe she should be more concerned with making sure she has no reason to ever NEED to appear in court again! That is what those of us who actually USE our brains like to call COMMON SENSE. Something that not only she is lacking, but it would appear that several of the people posting comments here lack as well. Anyone who thinks the judge is wrong in this case, has an obvious disdain for law and authority. Perhaps the woman in the article isnt the only one who needs to grow up.

smartm*******y....you go girl!!!!! Tell them about it, like I said earlier, I can wear that type of apparel, and when in the appropriate atmosphere still do. I too am a professional...still not jealousy of little girls. I have never had a problem with my own sexuality...never thought that I needed to look "cute" to impress. As I said earlier, it's the judges call, not anyone else. The young woman was warned and cited, she could have been sentenced to 1 year minus 1 day. That is the maximum for a misdemeanor in any state. From 1 year on, it's the big house, kids. You young people need to learn something, and you need to learn it quick. We don't care what you look like, we care whether or not you show the respect due us for, if nothing else, our age and experience in life. And, btw, if I had ruled that her clothing was not permitted in my court, then yes, it would be illegal. Judges have that right. Judges determine apparel, head wear, speech, etc. for their courts. Using a cell phone isn't illegal either, but if you don't turn yours off in court, it starts ringing and you disrupt proceeding by talking on it, you have broken the law, you can go to jail for up to 1 year minus one day. Grow up children, this isn't a playground anymore

MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT. AN ABSOLUTE DICTATORSHIP EXISTS INTHE COURT. THE JUDGE RULES AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT OR REFUSE TO ACCEPT WHAT HE SAYS, YOU CAN BE CITED BY THE JUDGE, WHO IS THE JURY AND PROSECUTOR, AS BEING IN CONTEMPT OF COURT. THAT MEANS YOU ARE IN CONTEMPT OF HIS RULING AND HE CAN AND WILL PUT YOU IN JAIL. THERE IS NO APPEAL. JUDGES LOVE THIS POWER

Mimiru, and you know this how? You are the expert on older women who are jealous of young women? Rofl...give me a break. You are obviously unaware that women are much more interesting as they get older. We are constantly being told we are not "good enough" if we aren't "sexy" or pretty...it's no wonder our young people have become so shallow. When's the last time you read a book (without pictures)? When is the last time you helped someone who was in need? When did you last have a meaningful conversation that did not include the words "sex", "boyfriend," "love", or for that matter, "me"? Get over yourself. Why don't you take the time to talk to someone who has gray hair...you may learn that looks are much less valuable than integrity, insight, and class!

Instead of focusing on the real problem, which is at most her lack of respect, and at the very least a lack of common sense, this poor girl chooses instead to threaten a lawsuit because she claims she was picked on. LOL If this isn't symptomatic of our society, I don't know what is!

I teach in a university and am appalled at what students wear to class. Can't imagine what they might wear to court. I've seen flannel pajamas, see through shirts with no bras, lots of tummy showing, and incredibly short shorts. I'm a woman so I can't imagine that they're trying to use sex appeal to win me over. The men aren't much better.... pants sagging off their butts and hats in the classroom. Whatever happened to respecting certain venues, like school, church, and the court? Your outward appearance says a lot about you as a person and your character. If you want me to think you're a 'ho, then keep dressing like one.

no we don't. we usually seldom use this "power", what we love, is that people do not disregard nor disrespect our rulings. and just for you, marber12454, we are not prosecutors, many of us were defense attorneys before we became judges. there is a prosecutor in every case, and she had the right to a defense attorney. and; she or you could have requested a trial by jury...you have the choice to turn down a bench court decision. she just didn't. and you don't know as much as you think. in all honesty, in watching the video, and reading these comments, I had given miss short-shorts the benefit of the doubt. Well she was warned at least twice by her own admission, Dressing seems to be a big deal nowadays and it should, there is no respect among our children to others, kids wearing their pants under their butt cheecks, its all gotten out of control and I personally feel that this lady got what she dressed for.

I am 50 and I have done generational research. Respect has to flow both ways, and I do understand what you're saying Mimiru. However, when you reach 50 you will understand that normal 50 year old women are not jealous of 30 year old women. I'm not sure I believed that at a certain point in life, you really come to terms with who you are as a person. But you do!. I'm thinking that you will discover this for yourself, in time. As for clothing, I guess my theory is that you TELL the world how you expect to be treated by how you present yourself. Just think about it... maybe it will make sense to you one day. Maybe not today, but eventually. Peace..

LMAO YOU are lecturing US on lack of respect?? So it is only an issue when you are the one who feels disrespected, I guess. You are defending this moron's right to come to court dressed like she's going to take up a position on her favorite street corner as soon as she leaves the courtroom, and you feel that we don't respect free speech? LMAO That is very funny! And dear, please show me in the constitution where it says that coming to court dressed like a hooker is protected speech. I would LOVE to see that. You know, there is an expression that comes to mind every time you post a comment: "It is better to remain silent and let others THINK you are stupid, then to open your mouth (or keyboard) and remove all doubt."

Oh, and one more thing. I don't think it is our lack of respect for free speach that is causing our forefathers to turn in their graves. If they could see the lack of respect that is shown to our courts and to law enforcement every day, I think that would cause them more distress than our "lack of respect" (LMAO) for "free speech".

Isn't the real question here why this woman had so many opportunities to appear before a judge in the first place? Sounds like a lock her up and throw away the key situation. Remember Fred Gwynne in "My Cousin Vinny"? "You mockin' me, boy?"

Ok this chic is a Darwin contender. That videoclip proved it. Whoever made the chlorine in the gene pool comment is correct. I find it laughable that one poster said the judge was jealous! Are we in high school again? LMAO You don't go to court dressed like you're out clubbing. You dress RESPECTABLY. And being as she had been told twice before and fined once, the judge was within her rights to say have a nice time in jail. One can only hope she has not reproduced.

This is a perfect example of how people now think things must be fair and everyone has to not hurt your feelings or lower your self esteem! Bullhonky!!! Going to court, principals office whatever, should scare you and not be something you even remotely think about how "cute"your outfit is! And she should think that she wont be going to court again not that "next time" she'll ask for a change in venue!! UGH!!!

Do you know anything about the legal system? There are certain laws in this country and this girl has apparently broken quite a few of those laws. And when anyone goes to court they should look presentable. Shorts are not presentable. Shorts are not classified as dressy even if they "look" dressy. Shorts are not attire you wear if you want respect. There are even some restaurants that only allow dressy clothing and if you are wearing shorts they require you to change or leave. And another note, our forefathers did not build this country on allowing people to break the law and disrespect people of legal authority. They built it on certain morals that this young lady does not have.

Once again, the way you dress is not a function of speech, therefore it is not governed under "freedom of speech". that actually refers to your ability to say...how did that one posting put it...oh, it was you "The government doesn't respect anyone, so why should we respect them." that's freedom of speech. your attire would fall under freedom of expression, and that's not an inalienable right.

Stop, please. There is nothing to be gained by you repeatedly showing your ignorance. Hold old are you, anyway? Baed upon your comments, I would guess about 15, but my daughter is 15, and to say you are her age would be a disservice to her and all intelligent 15 yr olds everywhere. You sound younger and more petulant with every post you leave. Right now I am guessing you to be around 11. But keep going, this could end up being like an auction. Do I hear 9? Going once? I am 22 years of age and just speaking about the injustice of our government. I NEVER said I agreed with the dress, just saying she could have worn a lot worse or nothing at all. She had charges. They should have been enough to throw her in jail, her clothing shouldn't be a jailing reason. She did NOT respect the court but respect is a 2 way street. You don't demand respect, you earn it. Whether you are the President of the US or a child. EARN IT. This country is corrupt and that is all there is to it. How old are you? I think it may be that you are old and didn't get to have your fun when you were younger. Go home, put on a piece of lingerie, prance around the house, see how you feel. Put on a pair of daisy dukes and a tank top and go outside, see how you feel. I myself can't wear these things as I am overweight but if I could, who knows if I would.

BUT I WOULDN'T GO TO COURT DRESSED THAT WAY!! I wouldn't be in court at all, but that is a whole other discussion. And dear, simple-minded child. I am not OLD. LMFAO Now you are REALLY funny. You sound like me when I was a kid, thinking anyone over the age of 30 was "old". I am 35, and let me tell you something sweetheart. With age comes MATURITY. I can only pray that with age, YOU gain some maturity, because you are showing a remarkable LACK of it right now. You seem awfully bitter towards the law for one so young. What personal knowledge might YOU have of our legal system that would lead you to rail against it so vehemently? Perhaps this is all your own misguided anger because YOU were dealt a "bad hand" by our legal system? And complain all you want about our "corrupt" legal system. It is still the most fair and civilized legal system in the world. For all of it's flaws, and I agree it has many, it is still far better than what you will find anywhere else in the world. But if you disagree, feel free to try living elsewhere and see how good you really have it.

look, sweetie, I do feel for you. and in some mind blowing way, understand you. but you don't know what discrimination nor respect, nor freedom of expression is. you don't even realize that you are the jealous one on here. I am an American Indian. I have worked hard to be where I am in life. I HAD to work harder, do better, and live straighter than my fellow classmates while in law school. Freedom of speech means that you RESPECTFULLY express your opinion VOCALLY. unfortunately unless you are burning our nations beautiful flag. if you give a cop the finger while driving down the road, that is not freedom of speech - but you can legally through that RIGHT, tell him to f off. he may right you a ticket, that he was only going to warn you for, or fail you on all of the field sobriety tests and put you through hell until you blow clean after arrest for SUSPICION of DUI, but, it's freedom of speech (although a stupid act). If you think that this country's government is so corrupt, move to Russia or China? Or how about Iran or Darfur. or anyone of the other nations where you have no rights? if you want to see a dictatorship, get the hell out. my people would love to go back to the old ways of leadership. why don't you quit whining, get an education, and change something? We may shoot horses here, but we don't knowingly punish the innocent. You are tilting at windmills, and you don't even know which windmill is the monster.

Is there no common sense anymore? Where is this girl's mother? There seems to be a dis-connect with some people as to what you should wear to court. A simple white blouse, a pencil skirt and some closed in heels would be appropriate. You could get these things at a thrift store. Id hate to see what she wears to funerals. Dressing respectful to the court is part of the whole gig. It shows that you have some decency. A babydoll and short shorts is for going to the Playboy mansion. Somebody write a book on this! Oh wait , she probably dosent read either. Too many drugs. -

Mimiru...are you for real, or is this a joke? Seriously! I really think you are joking. Aren't you? This is so monumentally ridiculous. Do you really think this way? If you are real and this is not a joke, than it is so sad for such a young person to feel this way. You can't have had a very good education, else you would understand that there is much more to life than wearing daisy dukes and prancing around in your underwear to feel good about yourself. You sound so narrow-minded! Expand your mind and you broaden your horizons. Take a class...on government or the legal system...or for that matter, humanities! Take a cooking class! Learn a new language...or a musical instrument. I can't help but think you have such a jaundiced view of getting older. Learn...talk...act...do! You'll find your world open up, and maybe you'll learn that life's about much more than your looks.

Like it or not, there IS a dress code in a court of law. She was warned. Twice. "Forgot", my foot! That's passive-aggressive speak for "I don't care what you say, I'm going to do what I want." As for her statment, "It's not fair!", my reply is: "Too bad!! Deal with it!!" The reporter was right: she showed disresepect and disregard.

A court room is a place of business. She should be properly attired in business clothing...ie a dress, pants suit or similar proper business atire: "go to church clothes" not like a hoochee mama. We have had occasions here in Marylnad where the presiding judge has sent defendants home to change clothes and come back to court properlly attired.

mimiru... I am a young enough dude that I dress pretty wild by older people's standards. I also believe that people should be allowed to express themselves any way they want as long as they don't hurt themselves or others. However... they has to be some rules of what appropriate conduct or dress is or we end up as a society like in the movie, "Idiocracy". mimiru, you seem fairly intelligent, so don't make yourself look bad by defending this idiot chick. It is disrespectful to show up for court that way. For all of you screaming "freedom of speech!!", for our court system to work, there has to be decorum and respect. "Cute" is not how you dress for court, like "gansta" is not how you dress for a job interview. For the fourth time, I AM NOT DEFENDING HER. I am just saying she could have shown up in worse or nothing at all. Why couldn't she just be thrown in jail for her criminal charges? Her clothing should have played no part. It just goes to show that the judge is jealous or a feminist which I guess are the same. I am not a fan of ppl who wear this stuff but it is their right. And who wears pencil skirts anymore? No one. Your best thing people will wear would be a mini skirt and an open button blouse and that is at a Doc's office.

You contradict yourself every time you touch the keyboard. To say you are not defending her clothing, and in the next breath to defend her right to wear said clothing, is a contradiction in and of itself. And please, Ms. Fashionista, pencil skirts are still worn, which you should know if you have read a celebrity magazine in the last 6 months. I have worked in offices for the last nearly 20 years, both doctor and business, and NO ONE I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH has ever worn a mini skirt to work. And if they did, they weren't employed there very long. I ask again: How old are you? Because you are getting younger and younger in my estimation with every comment you post.

You do not wear mini skirts or short shorts anywhere but the Playboy Mansion. Some things are just too much for a courtroom. But the whole point is , she decided that the judge was "picking " on her. That is delusional. That is why she is in so much trouble. She wants to do as she pleases and not have to pay the price.

she was put in jail for her criminal charges. honey, you are not stupid. you are young. you see this as all of us ganging up on her, and you. we aren't. we are outraged at the woman's disrespect. and as to you thinking that the judge would be jealous or a feminist, you could be right. I don't know the judge personally, but neither do you - now YOU are judging someone without looking at the facts. Look, I would have warned her the first time. The second time, I would have fined her $500 dollars or 3 days, the third time, I would have given her an additional 30 days, plus whatever I found appropriate for her other crimes and that would be her boo-hoo. I'm 50 years old, Native American, I have straight black hair with very little grey (just enough to be sexy as far as my GORGEOUS husband is concerned) and it reaches below my waist, I stand 5"9" and I weigh 134 pounds, wear a size 4. The only makeup I wear is a little mascara and lipstick and only to work. I am a district court judge, and am not a feminist at all. I think that the door should be held open for me, I stayed home and raised my kids, I fix my husband's plate at dinner time, if we don't sit down at the dining table. good grief, as far as I'm concerned, he's the bread winner and makes the majority of the big decisions in our life (and, btw, I make more money tan he does). jealousy and feminism did not play a part in this judges decision. ignorance, disrespect and CONTEMPT on the part of the defendant is what she was found guilty of, not youth and cuteness. I've just defended you, but now I'm going to tell you this...YOU do not know what you are talking about and with each and every post, you prove it. Do you know what the word ASSUME means? You ASSUME that the judge is jealous. ASSUME means making an ASS out of U and ME. Do Not even think of making an ASS out of this judge, who has been more than tolerant with this twit in HER (the judges) courtroom. You are showing what an ASS you are when you do.

Thank you for defending one of the best judges in this district. I have appeared before Judge Booth when my ex wouldn't pay his child support after several appearances before other judges. She was the only one who issued an order that finally got me my child support with any regularity. She also set strict rules for how it was to be handled if he didn't pay. She is very fair and a good judge. And for the record, the court room doors in the district do state that there is to be no cellphones, no hats and no improper clothing. I have seen people sent home with directions to return before court was finished or face a bench warrant. I have never dressed inappropriately to attend court and honestly can say I haven't seen very many people dressed this way. In our county, the bailiff will tell you if you are dressed incorrectly.

What's the problem here? The judge warned the woman twice, yet she still came into the courtroom dressed inappropriately. What did she expect, if not jail time. She doesn't seem to have grasped the concept that a judge's courtroom is a special place in which the judge has a good bit of latitude in determining what is, and what is not, acceptable dress, behavior, etc. Actually, if this person would behave properly outside the courtroom she'd not be in the position she's in.

You are not called before the court to answer charges BEFORE God. I am very much a Christian, but God does not play a role in my courtroom, nor most others. That, my friend, is illegal for us judges!!! You are so self righteous to think that you can go to court, after committing a crime, and stand before that court and do, dress, or say anything you want. How dare you!!! YOU better hope to hell that you never appear before me with that attitude.
When you commit a crime, are arrested, go to court, & put forward a defense, you better use enough common sense that you know to do so with respect. Take your hat off in my courtroom, turn off your cell phones, shut your mouths, pay close attention to me, dress APPROPRIATELY, to me that could be well fitting CLEAN blue jeans and a T-shirt that is not OFFENSIVE; IE, no vulgar language or slogans. If you don't, and I instruct you to not appear before ME, not God, in such a manner again, I WILL CITE YOU FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT. Contempt of court means that you have disrespected and ignored me. Not God. That's something that you will take up with your maker, when he or she DECIDES to judge you.
And, by your leave, we do stand up, place our hand on a bible, and swear before the people who have elected us, to do our best. To do the right thing. To be respectful of you. And, you are always given the benefit of doubt, until you either plead guilty, plead nolo contendo, or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. You, more than likely, have broken the law before, and didn't like the sentence you received. To bad, grow some juevos and behave like a civilized human being. If you choose not to, and you do have the choice, more power to you. But I would be careful, you sound like wife material in the local general pop. Comprende?
Sorry, I don't mean to be so long winded.

Contempt of court IS an ACTUAL criminal charge.
Again, as someone else pointed out, this is not a 'Freedom of Speech' issue. Please re-read the Constitution. If our forefathers are turning in their graves it is because of people like this repeat offending woman , and you who are defending her over this judge. You are both part of the Decline of American values. Our forefathers did not take the rights of miscreants into consideration when crafting the Constitution. Respect for the Judicial process rather than Contempt for the Judicial process will yield a better result for the defendant.
Apparently she is a stupid woman. She can't even comprehend the connection between a second warning in the form of a $50 fine, and her eventual 'contempt of court' finding. There are people smarter than me, and I would have found one and consulted one of them for a revamp of my wardrobe after the $50 fine! Duh! -

To the girl who thinks she got a bum deal, think about it...would you want your child wearing something like this to a serious place? There are choices in clothing. Albeit she sounds a bit mental. She may as well stood up and flipped the bird. Its called being defiant. If you go to an eatery and it says no shirt no service...would you push the envelope and take off your shirt in defiance? Its like not having stop lights. There has to be some order. It makes sense for her to do this for her own good and show that she has some decency. She would have scored some points.

I can't believe that you don't already know this, but ok, here goes. NEVER IN ALL OF THE EXISTANCE OF OUR LEGAL SYSTEM WAS IT CONSIDERED APPRPROPRIATE OR A "RIGHT" TO DRESS OR ACT IN A MANNER THAT IS DESPRESPECTUFL OF THE LAW AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM. GOING TO COURT DRESSED LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO A PICNIC, OR A STRIPPER CONVENTION IS NOT A RIGHT PROTECTED BY OUR CONSTITUTION. NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE. Jesus, don't you have ANY sense? And it IS a law that you come to court dressed appropriately. That is one reason why we HAVE the Contempt of Court charge. There are rules of conduct and decorum that must be followed in a courtroom. Every courtroom I have ever been in for jury duty has had a big sign spelling out proper attire. They've all been the same........no shorts, no tank tops, no flip flops, no bare feet, and no midriffs visible. When you go to court, you need to dress as nicely as you can as a show of respect for the proceedings. This woman had been warned more than once. I have zero sympathy for her. She's just a druggie who needs to learn proper courtroom etiquette. Frankly, I think this judge was far more lenient with her than many might have been under the circumstances. TWO prior warnings is likely at least one more than many other judges may indulge her. So she can cry and play the victim all she wants, but I bet you next time she goes to court she'll put some pants on...lol

Not trying to offend you Mimiru, I just don't understand your lack of common sense here. Do you think if you'd already been to court numberous times, and was WARNED that the judge didn't appreciate your taste in clothing that you'd tempt fate and return half naked AGAIN? I'd personally dress as requested by the court in lieu of having to possibly put on prison garb. I've been to court Mimiru. I've been there, done that, got a matching t-shirt and sunshades, dear. You learn to compromise or you go to jail. PERIOD. Like it or hate it, there has to be some kind of rule to society. And by having to approach a judge in court, you've already used one of your freedom tickets by breaking the law in the first place. The chick is a twit. Simply a twit who obviously deserved her sentence.

Courtroom dress and etiquette are there to faciliate respect and decorum. Those who defiantly ignore it are thumbing their noses at the system and should be dealt with accordingly...contempt was absolutely appropriate here.
And mimiru- where the heck do you live that you think pencil skirts aren't in style? Apparently your trailer hasn't been hooked up to satellite tv and you're missing fashion week. As for the founding fathers- I don't think Jefferson would have showed up to the Continental Congress in hotpants. -

mirimu.. please understand that she is not being jailed for the clothes she was wearing; she is being jailed for showing the court zero respect (hence the term: contempt of court) and for being stupid. If people were allowed to do what they want in court, the system would not work. Our court system may be flawed, but it is still one of the best on this planet.

I'm sure belief in any higher being that teaches or emphasizes positive things could have helped her. However... I think what she lacks more than anything is responsible parents that might have tought her enough to function in our society. My guess would be she had an unknown "sperm donor" for a father and a mother that learned about life and child rearing from watching the Jerry Springer show.

No matter what court you go to, they clearly state that no shorts are allowed. Even if you are not the one "on trial," you cannot wear shorts. You can't even bring a book in the courtroom either. She deserves it. She should have been thrown in jail for being illiterate.

Not exactly right! I've worn Shorts to court several times, and nothing was ever said. I'm 60 years old, and did this in my 50's. I was a witness, and wore very nice shorts with a polo shirt. No judge or court personal said anything. It's the fashion, and respect which the judges base their opinion on. Mt shoes matched my attire. Brown shoes with light of earth tone, and black with the blues, greys, and black. USE CONNON SENSE

Good for the judge. A court room is a place where a dress code is required. Proper dress shows the court that you respect the court and people who work there and the law. It's not a bloody play ground or a beach. It's about time they made people understand this.

If she wore a business suit or shorts to court, she should be treated exactly the same. Justice should be blind. Many judges today think they are sitting on a throne instead of a bench.

Have we our rights as American citizens to choose our own clothes? Did I wake up in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, or is the fight for freedom just a dam joke and a reuse so that we can gain control of oil bearing nations? FREEDOM is not just a thought its something we all must fight for and many have died for. This Judge is out of her mind by making such a ruling and if this is truly a free country as it should be then her decision will come back to bight her in the" shorts".

Yes we do that the right to choose our own clothes. We are a free country. However, when you go into court, you need to dress appropriate. On the freedom issue, if I were to go shoot some random person in the street, should I not have any penalty since we are a free country. We have laws and rules that we as citizens of this country need to abide by. If we do not, we have to pay the consequence. She was told TWICE not to wear what she was wearing, she chose to continue wearing inappropriate clothing to court, therefore, she has to pay the price. To tell the judge you forgot what they had said last time you were there, is just plain disrespectful. It wouldn't matter if you said it to a judge or any other person on the street. I have to agree with the judge on this one. She was not abusing her power, she put someone in jail who was in contempt. Period. There are dress codes for many things, schools, bars, clubs, stores, court rooms, ect. You must obey or be punished one way or another.

is this surprising? we are long gone from a common standard of attire in public/public functions and clean clothing you'd go to the store in, is seen as appropriate for work, going to the doctor, theater, concert, and even court in casual attire that you'd go to the park or make a milk run in.
i've seen sales reps wearing low cut blouses, short skirt, ie professional work clothes that are not appropriate for court but are for work? the lines are blurred. she was warned over a tank top- and she didn't know it was for the tank top! so yes, i can see how she is truly unaware she was offending the court. comes down to it, she probably doesn't have anything but 'those kind of clothes' -

I don't know what protocol is in Kentucky, but in the courts where I am from in Florda, people are given a list ahead of time of what attire can be worn and what may not be worn. Tank tops and shorts are definitely on the "may not" list. This is not unusual or a violation of rights - most places people go have some sort of dress code. It's hard for me to believe that this woman did not actually know she was out of line. It sounds like she may have just wanted to irritate the judge and thought she could get away with it. She doesn't sound like a very smart cookie.

OK get a grip folks! No one saw what this judge called short shorts! When I hear that term I think daisy dukes. When I here that I think beach wear. But then again I am not a right wing conservative wack job either! Good taste is required in public setting and even better taste and discretion are required in settings of such nature as courtrooms funeral parlors and prisons. social grace and good taste is a taught skill not something we just know because it is expected. Family structure would be great but in absence of such mechanisms as a parent to teach proper social graces and what to wear and when and where, we learn by usually embarrassing experiences. This little lady may or may not have had inappropriate attire for the setting she entered. This judge might be a little dictatorial. We however are not aware of what transgression was perpetrated since we never saw the clothes in question. But lets not prevent lack of knowledge from keeping us from assuming this lady was wrong huh?

This judge worked hard to get where she is and is determined to have respect from the ones that appear in her court room. She all ready told this woman to get dressed before appearing in front of her again. (Gave her 2 warnings) The woman didn't have enough respect for herself to dress appropriate for court, but after warnings, I feel she just wanted to see how far she can push a judge before landing in jail. Now, she wants to cry like she is so innocent. She was going in front of a judge, not her drug dealer. Maybe NEXT TIME she will show more respect since the judge did give her jail time. She knows she is going to be in court again, seems like she would try to be more abiding to the judges rules. IT IS THEIR COURT ROOM AFTER ALL!!!

All I can think about is how corrupt the court system is, forget about how you dress.
Attorney's dress because this is their profession, but as for plaintiff's and defendants who realy cares how you come to court as long as you are decent. and get there when it is mandatory. Shorts were not daisy dukes if you watched where she said they came down (her leg) and a tank top with a bra I might add, covers her pertinent parts.
She was there for a crime and that should have been it.
As long as the Courts charge their money, because it is a money making proposition for the Judicial system, then why the hell do they care what people wear. They add insult to injury.
I have seen working MEN come to court in their TANK tops and scuffy working pants and muddy shoes and that is allowable. (civil court, landlord tenant court et al)
This judge should have stuck to the case at hand instead of telling her to dress differently for 3 days in a row. Obviously she was adding her personal opinion to a manner of dress and not addressing the legal issue at hand.
Clean up the corruption in the Courts before you start trying to clean up someone elses clothing prefference.
And yes I was the Plaintiff in case you are wondering.
Court is a Profession for Arrorneys and Judges (X-Attorney's) They should dress and remove that stupid robe which have been used by some Judges to cover up palying with their private parts. So should you be dressing for Judges and lying Attorney's? No I don't think so, and you will never convince me differently.
I of course dress Professionally but I would never look down upon somone coming into the court with casual clothing. Like I said, as long as they showed up.-

It is a matter of self respect and how you adhere to a professional and solvent envoirnment, Yes attorneys and judges work there, but "there" is where the laws of our country are enforced. Why is it so hard for somebody to just admit that they were told not to wear improper attire and to stop it. If a judge tells you in his or her court to not wear improper clothing again, she even gave this girl a few chances then if the girl does not listen she is defying the judge. This is a no no. Do you not watch court tv? Even talking out of turn will get you thown out. I suppose in a perfect laid back kind of world where everyone did as they darned well pleased she could wear anything but I have a clue that what she wore was disruptive. So even with your opinion of the system one needs to have resepect for the judge and especially if you are there for other crimes. This is adding fuel to the fire.

She may or may not have been exaggerating about her clothes (I'll bet her shorts were much shorter than she said they were), but that's besides the point. There is some corruption in our courts, there is no doubt. But to assume most judges and court systems are corrupt is without merit. Judges spend years working as attorneys and working their way up the court "ladder". They've seen everything. Many try to keep a balance in their lives through the study of how the law relates to human behavior, rather than falling prey to depression and burn-out from the myriad of tragic stories they hear day in and out. This girl, like so many of her generation, did not feel she was dressed inordinately for a courtroom, but had been told by the Judge twice before that she was to dress moderately. The Judge had every right to regulate her courtroom and demand that people appearing before her not be a distraction to the case. This is why Judges wear a black robe, btw, so that attention is on the face...and the mind...and not the body. In any case, the girl ignored the Judge, and as a result was held accountable for her actions...something I'm sure she experienced little of in her life.

What is all the fuss about this woman wearing short shorts to court? Obviously she wanted to go to jail otherwise she would have listened to the judges first 2 warnings. She evidently has no respect for herself or authority. Maybe she just stays too drugged up or drunk to pay attention to real life. The judge worked hard to earn her courtroom and whatever rules she has for her courtroom should be honored. This girl obviously doesn't respect any law, otherwise she wouldn't have to serve MORE TIME for breaking the law right there in the jail. At least in jail, they are providing more material for clothing than she is use to. Maybe her next court appearance will be from jail so she will be dressed appropriately for court.

You have to remember that she's not in court by herself. She's in court with all sorts of other people for other crimes, possibly everything from rape to murder. Her attire could very well cause disruption in the courtroom. I am a court reporter and have sat through too many dockets to mention and seen the various attire that people wear to court. In our circuit, we actually had to post signs with the dress code appropriate for appearing in court. So, she was warned once, twice and fined. A third warning to an ADULT is above and beyond. Judges want to THINK that you have some remorse for what you may or may not have done, and by dressing as if you were going to a bar or a backyard picnic instead of to a proceeding that could have lifelong implications just shows the state of mind and perhaps the apathy of the defendant.

It amazes me to see how many people are willing to accept anything a judgr says or does as being right. When a person goes to court, they are not on the judges "turf." Judges are not Gods, sitting in a private little world where they can interpret the civil rights of those of lesser greatness then they. This woman, by some standards, may have dressed in bad taste for a court appearence. Since when is bad taste a crime or contempt of court issue? Note also that the Judge refused to make comment about any of it. This is a great case for the Judicial Ethics Committee. Judges have too much POWER, and all too often abuse it.

A judge's courtroom is their world and they make the rules of conduct there. When a case is heard and they dictate a sentence they are bound by the rules of punishment prescribed by the law for a specific crime or infraction. These are preordained and the judge cannot change them.

Lakerman, read my post above, the constitution gives them such powers which only Congress can change. True abuses of power have been made and the chief administrative judge will correct it whenever he agrees but this is not a situation he might be inclined to intercede. Only serious violations have been reviewed when the defendant's case has been jeopardized, which in the past I have seen or read about.

A courtroom is NOT the "judges world." It's our world. It's every american citizen's world. It is a place where situations, crimes, and misunderstandings are judged, and decisions rendered. Decisions should be unbiased, and pertain only to the reason one is in court. This woman did not come to court wearing a thong, and topless. She wore normal clothing for the time of year at hand. I suppose if a judge says "don't come before unless you are wearing a yellow hat," you better get a yellow hat. If you caan't find one you are in contempt. Here come da judge.

What is wrong with you people who agree with this moronic judges decision? A judge is supposed to decide innocence or guilt of breaking the law, not make up laws to suit themselves! Show me the law that says that this woman or anyone else cannot dress the way that they want to! She should be judged for the crime she committed, NOT for wearing clothes the judge doesn't like! And why should anyone have to respect the rantings of a cross-dresser that wears a dress to work and pants on the street! To hell with this jude and any that think they are God. Who do they think they are? Bush and Cheney!

I'M sure that God would show respect to the Judge? What about you? She was in contempt of court, she showed a lack of respect for the judge..Thats it. It has ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY! Any one going before a Judge showing disrespect will probably be hit with contempt. Look it up..Next time your in try chewing gum..Thats also showing disrespect..

we do have a very sorry unexcusable court system today...first of all if the shorts were too short to make an appearrance in the courtroom why are they even allowing it to be marketed? secondly the judges that impose sentencing are sipping alcohol in the courtyroom while rendering decisions whats up with that pic? hmmm....whatever happened to the rights of the people by the people? we pay these judicial people out of our tax paying dollars to do their part but when it comes down to throwing a person in JAIL FOR INAPPROPRIATE ATTIRE FOR THE COURTROOM IT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS REASON TO INCARCERATE A PERSON....I FEEL OUR RIGHTS AS AMERICAN CITIZENS ARE WILTING AWAY AND WE MUST AS CITIZENS STAND UP FOR OUR REMAINING RIGHTS BEFORE THE USA TURNS INTO A COMMUNIST COUNTRY THAT OUR FOREFATHERS FOUGHT TO KEEP FROM HAPPENING! THATS MY OPINION WHATS YOURS?

Look I have NEVER gone into a courtroom where there wasn't a sign somewhere near the door that said something about "appropriate attire". This does not mean a business suit, it does however mean you dress for the situation. Men have to remove hats, no jerseys with gang motifs, no short-shorts, no halter tops - this is a courtroom not Hooters.

You dress for court, there are signs warning you to maintain "appropriate dress" not daisy-dukes, halter tops, and "bouncing girls" and guys, respect yourselves as well... no one wants to see chest hair, bulging bellies, and nose hair. Clean yourselves up and speak Operative English, rather grunt at the judge - you might get somewhere rather than incarcerated.

I HOPE THAT THOSE JUDGES RENDERING THOSE DECISIONS REALIZE THAT SOMEDAY THEY TOO WILL BE JUDGED AND GOD I HOPE THEY RECEIVE THE UTMOST JUDGEMENTS ON THEIR DEATHBEDS UNABLE TO RECTIFY THEIR UNREASONABLE DECISIONS.... I USE TO WORK AS A JANITOR IN ONE OF COUNTY BUILDINGS IN CONNECTICUT AND EVERY MORNING THE PEOPLE WHO SO CALLED RAN THE COURTS WOULD HAVE THEIR MORNING COCTAILS AS I WAS CLEANING UP I COULD SMELL THE JIMBEAM OR CAPTAIN MORGAN AS I PASSED WITH MY BROOM I FEEL THAT THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM SHOULD MANDATE THAT A JUDGE GIVES A SALIVA SAMPLE AT EVERY COURT APPEARANCE TO BE ANALYZED BY THE DEFENSE TEAMS AS WELL AS THE PROSECUTING TEAM BEFORE ANY JUDGEMENT STICKS!

WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTIONAL AGREEMENT DOES IT SAY YOU HAVE TO DRESS A CERTAIN WAY BEFORE BEING JUDGED? IF YOU EVER SAW ANY MOVIES DEPICTING CHRIST HE WORE CLAD CLOTHING HE DID NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EVEN CLEAN UP BEFORE MAKING HIS APPEARANCE BEFORE THE JUDGES...ARE WE BETTER THAN CHRIST? I SAY NOT! THE JUDGES HAVE NO REAL JURISDICTION AS TO HOW A PERSON DRESSES AND BASE PART OR WHOLE DECISIONS BASED ON THAT BIAS JUDGEMENT! SO WHO EVEN HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING UNLESS A PERSON APPEARS NUDE ABOUT HOW A PERSON MUST DRESS...IF THAT IS AN ISSUE IN THE COURT WHY NOT MAKE AMENDS TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE ATTIRE THAT PEOPLE ARE FREE TO CHOOSE FROM THEN?

There are certain places where you just dress accordingly. Who is that 28 year old CHILD who can't listen??? She got 2 fair warnings about her clothes and yet chose to NOT listen again! My son gets a time out by the third time - why should this childish behavior be punished in any other way??? Hopefully she got the point now and more importantly STAYS OUT OF TROUBLE to not have to go back to the courthouse anymore??? Some people ....!!!! -

DRESSING APPROPRIATELY MEANS COVER YOUR ASS AND OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY PERIOD...THATS DRESSING APPROPRIATELY.... IF YOU REALLY THINK ITS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE COURTS TO WEAR SHORTS WHY ARE SHORTS EVEN CONSIDERED AN ITEM WHICH A PERSON CAN WEAR WALKING THROUGH THE TOWN THEN...THIS IS OBSURD AND A WASTE OF TAXPAYING DOLLARS TO THROW A PERSON IN JAIL FOR THE MOST RIDICULOUS JUDGEMENT MADE!

DRESSING APPROPRAITELY means dressing respectfully for the courts. Dressing like you just walked in off the street from a job to get enough $ for your next fix is not respectful. If she had an attorney I can bet you that she was told how to dress. If you read the whole story on this chick you will see she was fined$50. the last time she was in front of this judge for the same reason. She thought that if she wore a bra it would matter..Ha She was in contempt of court. 3days was not long enough since she was warned twice before and fined..Next time you go to court you wear short shorts and you will be bounced out till you show respect too!

In response to MIKSAP--- I also served on grand jury, but it was in New York State. I no longer reside there, but it is run in a different way. There jurors are allowed to question witnesses, law enforcement officials, County Prosecuters, etc. I don't know how this works in other states. In agreement with much of your comment, I (although not female) would not challenge a judge, after being warned, with attire that not to my best interest. I might not agree with the judge, but conditioning would dictate-------don't challange the bench. I have never "done" jail time, and my attire would never be responsible for it to happen. Again I don't agree with it, but what is ......is. Thanks for the input.

response to markst01..................I call myself common!! Tomorrow I have four friends coming over. Two are (by their definition) white trash, one (by his definition) is a red neck, and one by everybodys definition (his first) is black. Three did tours in Iraq, and one was in Desert Storm(test your memory) and just got back from his tour in Iraq. You guessed it!! We're going to "swill beer" watch Nascar, and be happy we are where we are.USA USA USA

For cying out loud she is disrespecting the courts! She was fined for what she wore the last time and she still thought she could come in half naked before the judge, saying I forgot! TOOO FUNNNNNNYYYYY Oh well to bad so sad. She should have been giving the max since she thought it was so cute to mention the next time she is going to ask to go before a judge in a different venue..Ha haha too much dope here. Which is part of her problem..She has been in trouble too many times she needs a good reminder like a year not 3 days.
