OBAMA TRIED TO STALL GIS IRAQ WITHDRAWAL »
Posted By Klarissa 1 year, 3 months ago in NewsAccording to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.
"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.
Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."
"However, as an Iraqi, I prefer to have a security agreement that regulates the activities of foreign troops, rather than keeping the matter open." Zebari says.
Though Obama claims the US presence is "illegal," he suddenly remembered that Americans troops were in Iraq within the legal framework of a UN mandate. His advice was that, rather than reach an accord with the "weakened Bush administration," Iraq should seek an extension of the UN mandate.

Well Klarissa, you should check your sources before posting articles. Amir Teheri is a paid NeoCon (israel-firster) propagandist who has been caught lying numerous times already. You sound awfully desperate when you try to use this kind of source to discredit Obama.

Why are you propagandizing Americans with known liars Klarissa?
Amir Taheri
Amir Taheri is an Iranian-born journalist and author based in Europe. His writings focus on the Middle East affairs and topics related to Islamist terrorism. Taheri's public speaking engagements are arranged by Benador Associates, a public relations firm with a predominantly neoconservative clientele. [1][2][3][4] Critics have questioned Taheri's journalistic integrity, alleging that Taheri's writings contain misrepresentations.[5]
.... On May 19, 2006, the National Post of Canada published two pieces, one by Taheri, claiming that the Iranian parliament passed a law that "envisages separate dress codes for religious minorities, Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians, who will have to adopt distinct colour schemes to make them identifiable in public."[8] .... The National Post retracted the story several hours after it was posted online. The newspaper blamed Taheri for the falsehood in the article,[12][13] and published a full apology on May 24.[14]
.... Dwight Simpson of San Francisco State University and Kaveh Afrasiabi accuse Taheri and his publisher Eleana Benador of fabricating false stories in the New York Post in 2005 where Taheri identified Iran's UN ambassador Javad Zarif as one of the students involved in the 1979 seizure of hostages at the US Embassy in Tehran. Zarif was Simpson's teaching assistant and a graduate student in the Department of International Relations of San Francisco State University at the time.[16]....
.... Shaul Bakhash of George Mason University has accused Amir Taheri of concocting nonexistent conpiracies in his writings, and states that he "repeatedly refers us to books where the information he cites simply does not exist. Often the documents cannot be found in the volumes to which he attributes them.... [He] repeatedly reads things into the documents that are simply not there."[16] Bakhash has stated that Taheri's 1988 Nest of Spies is "the sort of book that gives contemporary history a bad name."[16]....

I agree. Another, similar post is on Propeller. Remember that Middle Eastern cultures are very adept at negotiations as a part of their culture. Let's get independent confirmation of this first.

Since when is Obama the negotiator for the U.S.?
Does Obama think anyone can go over and try to impact an ongoing negotiation? If not, who does he think he is? A junior senator with delusions of grandeur... just what we need.
What a jerk! Says one thing - does another - all for political gain. -

He is not in violation of the Logan Act. Senator Obama is a duly authorized representative of the United States. Further, he was not negotiating, he was suggesting. The Logan Act keeps Joe Sixpack from going to Mexico and giving back Texas. It is not intended to keep members of Congress from conducting investigations or to keep them from discussing any number of things with foreign powers. If this were the case, then when a member of Congress went to China with a governor of a state and negotiated a trade agreement, they would be in violation. They aren't. In fact, Senator Obama was not negotiating any binding agreement at all.
Also, does he not have a point? Based on this Administration's record, do we really want them to put a policy in place mere months from when a new Administration takes over? We do not know what the policy would be, but would it not be more disastrous to do something imprudent at this time?-

I do question Obama's judgement if he said, "not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."
A wise, experienced negotiator would not tell a foreign government that the United States is weak and confused.

According to Fox News: Barack Obama’s campaign denied a New York Post report Monday that said the Democratic presidential candidate privately tried to persuade Iraqi political leaders to stall an agreement on scaling back American troops in Iraq while publicly campaigning for a speedy withdrawal.
Reply
BUT look at this:
Obama's national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri's article bore "as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial."
In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a "Strategic Framework Agreement" governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hi9TDNHvuBZpFs...
Am I just reading her comments incorrectly or did she in fact confirm that Obama asked the Iraqis to "delay"? -

Okaaay, but that's not suggesting that the Iraqi government not begin or delay negotiations, it's suggesting that they not rush ahead with negotiations in an attempt to complete them with the current Administration.
Reply
Basically, Senator Obama is warning them that they may not get as good a deal from the current President as they may get from either a President McCain or a President Obama. Further, he is warning that this kind of negotiation should be done in concert with Congress, which is not currently being done.

" Supposing he wins, Obama's administration wouldn't be fully operational before February - and naming a new ambassador to Baghdad and forming a new negotiation team might take longer still.
Reply
By then, Iraq will be in the throes of its own campaign season. Judging by the past two elections, forming a new coalition government may then take three months. So the Iraqi negotiating team might not be in place until next June.
Then, judging by how long the current talks have taken, restarting the process from scratch would leave the two sides needing at least six months to come up with a draft accord. That puts us at May 2010 for when the draft might be submitted to the Iraqi parliament - which might well need another six months to pass it into law.
Thus, the 2010 deadline fixed by Obama is a meaningless concept, thrown in as a sop to his anti-war base. " -

The author, Amir Taheri, has a history of writing material that is untrue. He claimed, in an article published by the New York Post in 2006, that Iran was making Jews and other minorities wear special badges in public. The story was soon retracted.
Reply
Taheri's PR agent, Elena Benador, has explained of his writings about Iran that accuracy is "a luxury".
Taheri has also written a book on Iran found to have fabricated sections and quotes coming from books that cannot be found either in the Library of Congress or a search of Farsi libraries worldwide.
In a 2005 story in the Post, Taheri accused Iran's UN ambassador, Javad Zarif, of being one of the students involved in the hostage crisis in 1979. Professor Dwight Simpson claims this is a falsehood and that Zarif was his teaching assistant at the time.
In March of 2008 in the Wall Street Journal Taheri claimed "the truth is Sunnis ans Shiite extremists have always been united in their hatred of the U.S."
Clearly, as the past months in Iraq have shown, Sunnis and Shiite extremists are not unified by anything other than their desire to kill one another.
Anything written by Amir Tehari should be taken with more than a grain of salt.

Keep in mind that Obama is a crook and probably prone to incredible dishonesty. This is a guy who was a crook state senator in Illinois before he began to get national exposure. He was best buddies with a guy named Tony Rezko, whose shady dealings are legendary in Illinois. By the way, Tony Rezko is going to jail. Obama has the silver tongue, but watch out. The liberal press is not willing to invesitigate Obama's past as they should. Americans need to know the truth.

Now who does Obama care about, the troops or his election to the WH. McCain is right, Obama would rather lose a war then an election. He and his Dem buddies wanted to put the banner of defeat around GW's neck. Now Obama has a chance to be President he does not want to be the second U.S. president to lose a war, both being Democrats. Obama is a joke, a fraud and he has alot of people fooled. And these fools are about to put him in the WH. Let's hope the media does its job and expose this for what it is!! But I am not holding my breath.

The article is a load of excrement. The US has no UN Mmandate to be in Iraq, Bush ILLEGALLY invaded without UN or Congressional approval. The so called Iraq war resolution did not authorize any attack on Iraq without returning to Congress for authority. When Obama visited Iraq, Bush and McCain were still talking the 100 years of war nonsense. The "Iraq war" is just a big scam to steal Iraq's oil while Bush and cronies loot the US treasury.
