Obama Committed a Felony Violation of the Logan Act »
Posted By pc25 1 year, 1 month ago in NewsOn his World Tour in July, Obama interfered in the Bush Administration’s negotiations with the Iraqi Government about US troop withdrawals. For his own selfish political gain.
Not only is this an egregious Logan Act violation, which is a felony, it is an act of deception and political manipulation at the expense of American lives. Not to mention a reversal of Obama’s main campaign promise.

PC, this is a pretty serious charge. If it were McCain or Palin, it would be endlessly recycled by the press.
Reply
However, is there independent corroboration of the charge? Once we have that, I will gladly jump on the bandwagon. The reason for my hesitation is that Middle Eastern cultures have a tradition for negotiations which we would call "haggling". They are very good at dividing their counterparts to gain an advantage. Let's make sure this isn't the case first. -

The author has a history of writing "facts" that either cannot be substantiated or are simply out and out lies, often published in the New York Post.

Dumya sold Harkin stock when told not to as a board member, broke the FISA law, violated Geneva with torture and preemptive war, and let CIA agents be outed.
Reply
If Obama violated any law he would have been indicted already by the Mukasy Justice department that has let contractors do anything, backed Blackwater immunity, and never backed a congressional subpoena! Remember Rove told Mukasy to go only after Dems... and Gonzales to fire those 8 prosecutors who dared to also go after repugs!
Forget that your repug instigated 7 years of investigation of Bill only produced an illicit affair... while wasting $70 million?
Dumya's flaunting of the rule of law has even inspired Putin to invade!

The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today’s web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:
At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq’s Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama’s judgment and it demands an explanation.-

Gee, did you folks remember your Saint Reagan? He negotiated with the Iranians for release of our hostages with military hardware and with the stipulation that the hostages should not be released until after Reagan won the election. Forgot that one, huh?

There was nothing in this account that suggests Obama wanted to delay troop withdrawals. I agree there should be further inquiry to make absolutely sure nothing untoward happened, but the title of "Obama Committed a Felony Violation of the Logan Act" is more than a little premature, not to mention sensationalist, don't you think.

Hmm, I'd love to get a transcript of the whole conversation. Two things worth noting, though. Obama has long argued that any negotiations regarding a Status of Forces Agreement or Strategic Framework Agreement should be subject to Congressional consultation and approval. If he thought this was unlikely to happen during the current administration, why wouldn't he urge the Iraqis to wait for a changing of the guard? He has no authority to make "demands" of any kind, of course. As for the propriety of him meeting privately with Hoshyar Zebari, John McCain did exactly the same thing on June 15 of this year, in Arlington, Virginia. Behind closed doors, the senator and the Iraqi foreign minister discussed the surge and the Status of Forces Agreement. If McCain's opinions on these issues deviated in any way from that of the Bush Administration, would that be a violation of the Logan Act? (Speaking of which, nobody has ever proved that Reagan was involved in concocting the "October Surprise." As far as I can tell, that's still in the realm of speculation.)

Only a Felony? Nothing will happen. Bush has committed many acts of treason and no one even complains. So if we're going to get Obama, lets go for the big catch as well. Gallows for all the politicians! We can have a national lottery to see who gets to pull the lever on Bush.

This is hog wash. Where is the evidence that Senator Obama did anything that a senator is prohibited from doing. On the other hand, I note that you failed to mention McCain's interference in the country of Georgia. One would have thought McCain was the President rather than Bush. Get your facts straight and stop showing your hate.

Funny how liberal democrats will deny the truth even as it stares them in the face. This is really a felony and if you or I did this we would be on our way to Levenworth. I assume that because he is a liberal democrat running for president on the democrat party ticket it won't even be brought up.

You know what's REALLY funny? Senator McCain has also met with the Iraqi government on several occasions. What do you suppose he was doing?
Reply
You guys simply CAN NOT have it both ways. If Senator Obama is going to jail, so is Senator McCain. Hell, so is Senator Biden. The only one left standing would be Gov. Palin, because she hasn't met with anybody.
The Logan Act is designed to keep private citizens from meeting with foreign officials and causing harm to the interests of the United States.
No one has ever been charged under the Logan Act.
It's a smoke-screen Wolfie. That's it.

We see what cons think does and doesn't qualify as "dangerous" over the last 8 years. Why they insist on trying to convince us they actually have sound personal judgement is beyond the other 80% of America. Oh well...Stay in your cave and be afraid.
