The Ugly New McCain »
Posted By ameliog 1 year, 2 months ago in Political NewsFollowing his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 South Carolina primary, John McCain did something extraordinary: He confessed to lying about how he felt about the Confederate battle flag, which he actually abhorred. " I broke my promise to always tell the truth," McCain said. Now he has broken that promise so completely that the John McCain of old is unrecognizable. He has become the sort of politician he once despised.

Unions begin big election effort, By John Wojcik, People's Weekly World
With the primary season over, labor is wasting no time jumping into the fall campaign. The 10-million-member AFL-CIO is expected to endorse Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, shortly. The Change to Win federation has already endorsed him.
Once the AFL-CIO officially endorses Obama, it is expected to deploy large numbers of ground troops for the election. It has already budgeted $54.3 million for its own get-out-the vote drive and may, according to its political committee chairman, AFSCME President Gerald McEntee, spend as much as $60 million on the effort.
The Steelworkers have already begun what they say will be 30,000 or more worksite visits by union activists, talking directly to workers about Obama’s positions. They’re emphasizing his proposals for fair trade policies and for creation of millions of good paying “green” manufacturing jobs. The jobs they are talking about include production of solar cells, industrial-sized windmills to power electric turbines, and hybrid automobile engines.
The Service Employees (SEIU), the largest union in the Change to Win federation, voted at their June 2–4 convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to spend $85 million for the fall campaign to elect Obama and a bigger Democratic majority in Congress.
An additional $55 million will be spent for a legislative campaign to push for creation of a “universal, comprehensive and affordable national health care plan,” according to a union statement issued after the convention.
In a unique move, SEIU voted to spend $10 million to mount campaigns against legislators on any level who go back on promises they have made to the labor movement.

Organizing in Oregon
The Civil and Human Rights Committee of SEIU Local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union sponsored and hosted a talk by Communist Party Vice Chair Jarvis Tyner, Local 503 retiree activist Ann Montague and union organizer Bob Novick on Friday, August 8 in Portland, Oregon.
The forum was held to reflect on past civil rights struggles and to tie these to the present political moment. The panel featured three slightly different perspectives on the past and on the Obama candidacy. Communist literature was briskly distributed. One woman who attended took a number of items with her for her non-union paper mill.
Plans are in the works to follow up on the weekend with mailings, personal contact and e-mails. Three people have expressed an interest in joining the Party and several more heard about socialism for the first time at these events. -

The last paragraph says it all!
"But Joy Behar knew better. And so McCain lied about his lying and maybe thinks that if he wins the election, he can -- as he did in South Carolina -- renounce who he was and what he did and resume his old persona. It won't work. Karl Marx got one thing right -- what he said about history repeating itself. Once is tragedy, a second time is farce. John McCain is both."

When you hear him talk about his family, you want to believe him and accept him as a normal, warm father image. He talks about his kids (that's the term he uses) like my dad would have talked about his offspring.
Reply
But when you watch him tell these lies, you can just see the blankness, emotionlessness in his eyes. He is really a tragic and lost soul.

Thanks for bringing this up. I was leaning McCain early in this election; despite his record of the last year or two, toting the party line. He was my first choice of candidates in 2000. Even in '04, he denounced the swiftboating attacks on Kerry's behalf. I believe more and more people are starting to catch on... it truly is sad, as I had always admired and respected his honesty and integrity, before this. Well, for a politician- quite a lot.

I liked what McCain said in 2000, I generally had a fine opinion of him at that time and likely would have voted for him, the swiftboating he received from Bush was a tragedy.
Reply
But his reaction was to join the foulest of the foul, rather than fight them. I wrote him a letter commending his standing up against Bush regarding torture, but before he could have received it, he reversed his position and supported torture! I got a form letter back explaining that Gonzales assured him it wasn't illegal. ( How that negated McCain's original claim that torture provided no reliable info, that he knew this first hand -having told his own captors whatever they wanted to hear; is hard to fathom.)
And the man has gone downhill ever since. He has become the cartoon of the sleazy conniving politico he once claimed he despised.

The commenters here have been too nice about McCain. You're only speaking about his utter depravity in terms of his ads and honesty.

Look up Carl Lindner, Doug Goodyear, Charlie Black to name just three. These are people who McCain chose to be a part of his campaign and possibly a part of his cabinet if he won. Look them up and see what scum he is associated with.-

Guess who's buying Diebold? From the article:
Reply
United Technologies Corp has made a bid to purchase Diebold for $40 a share, a 66% increase in what it's worth. http://www.utc.com/press/releases/2008-03-02.htm
Why is that significant? John W. McCain's campaign manager is the chief lobbyists for United Technologies Corp.
This means the company that owns a sh.t load of "voting machines", will have a direct link to Senator McCain. John W. McCain has so many lobbyists buddies, it really makes me think. He has 59 lobbyists working on his campaign right now. List of Companies McCain's manager has worked for.
Will McCain represent America, or corporate America?
On another probably more important note, why the f..k do private companies run voting machines that have no paper trail. How can this be good for America, accept another company becoming rich on the backs of the American people.

I really dont understand how any of you who watched McCain today lambasting the government for assisting wall street could fail to remember that this is the same sleazebag who should have been arrested with Charles Keating when the government had to bail out all of the now non existant s That bailout cost the government billions and everyone seems to have conveniently forgotten about it. So far all the government has done is make some guarantees and outline steps they will take if needed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. So far not a dime has actually been spent unlike with the S That pompous lying windbag needs to retire and take moose shooting Calamity Jane with him. By the way maybe her daughter's illigitimate baby is the second coming and virgin birth she has been espousing.

I wish you're right but we all know that this man is desperate to be president at all costs and really doesn't have our nation at heart any longer. It's about him and only him, now. It's pitiful the legacy that Bush has built for himself, as a failure at almost everything he does. And McBush is following in his footsteps.

OH what a twisted vision you have.

IT is deregulation, the mantra of the GOP, that got us into this mess. IN particular, Phil Gramm, one of McCain's trusted economic advisers, who lobbied for deregulation of the mortgage industry and got rich in the process. WHen the industry was regulated, applicants had to meet certain capital requirements to get a loan. With deregulation, every greedy loan officer was free to give loans to his pet cat if he thought he could get away with it. And that is exactly what happened.

You people have to STOP your hate brigade. The fact that politics in general is a dirty lied filled business would disgust anyone from 1776 until today. You all say you want race, lies and religion out of politics YET pull it all in at every turn and to do what? Oh yeah have your guy win an election. Obama is just as big a liar as MCCacin or any other politician. Only thing is he lacks the experience to know what to do when the tough times come. Electing him will only project the USA to be WEAK in the eyes of the world as we were when we elected the infamous and Weakest President since Hoover - which would be Jimmy Carter. No one ever mentions that he was the first to screw things up for the USA in the Middle East. So please lets elect another guy that wants to TALK ABOUT THINGS. Watch some interviews when Obama isn't well rehearsed and you will see how unprepared he is. Saddleback, O'Reilly and even in his own town hall forum he has shown inexperience. Although once he blamed being tired. Gee I thought Mc Cain was the old tired guy. Although I am a Libertarian I will not viote for a team that has no chance but rather I will cast my vote as many will do for MC Cain / Palin in 2008 to fix what's broken and guide us through this mess. Oh and on more POLICITICAL LIE to fix .... It has not been 8 bad years - its been 18 bad months .... thats called a CYCLE.

Wrong, electing Senator Obama will show the world Americans are tired of corupt and evil leaders and are ready to reemerge into the world as fresh and whole and competent. Granted ,it will not be an overnight change but change all the same. The world will see us as being the Proud America we once were, willing, ready and able to be a world leader. You all talk and ramble all this experience BS and NONE of them have Presedential experience, it's OTJT for anyone who is a first termer. Please. Wake up before it's too late and we have another disaster at the polls in November. There are too many people afraid of the word change, are they so limited by that fear they refuse to recognize what is before us? Senator Obama didn't just pop up out of the blue, he has slowly been making a name for himself and thus has finally been put into a postion to help this country move forward on a whole host of levels. He is inclusive not exclusive, this man appeals to people of all different walks of life and has the inate ability to speak and be understood, something that has been sorely lacking the last 8 years, and it has been the last 8 years. I don't consider that a cycle I find that to be a chronic condition. The only cure for America at this juncture is Senator Obama and what he brings to the table, Wake up, stand up, vote Obma '08.

For the first time since I started doing this comment thing, I wish the keyboard had Ebonics on it.I believe that most of this hate against McCain, and Palin is skin color.I believe Micheil Obama was,and is the leader of the pack, you know hate whitey, lets get whitey, and don't live amongst the whiteies,It would be so much faster if one could just skip over the obvious. There is no way to remove this visceral hate from the black race, its taught daily in the black community, black churches, and the black homes
